Came here for a friends birthday for dinner. Sat outside on the cute patio with nice lights for some ambiance. They also have a few tables out in the sand but no lights seem to be near them. It's nice out there at night, I could imagine how gorgeous it must be during a day. Great for a nice meal on the beach. It took a quite a while for us to be acknowledged at the table and to finally get at least a drink. Aside from that our server was friendly and checked on us regularly. The food was pretty great! We got the gator bites which came with a fantastic orange marmalade. I didn't think they would go together well but O-M-G they're SO good with the sauce. Loved every bite! I ordered the duo platter (fresh catch fish and fried shrimp, two sides and hush puppies), hubby got the fried shrimp platter, and my friend had the shrimp skewers. All of the food was great and a good portion, especially the platters. Shrimp were jumbo and had great seasoning. Fish was good and juicy but I was never told what the fresh catch was. I had a side of the rice and beans, but wasn't as impressed with them as others seemed to be.. both the rice and beans seemed old and were very dry. Flavor was ok but couldn't get past the texture of it all. Both of our hush puppies for the platters were undercooked and doughy but we were able to get some replacements to go. An okay experience. I'd give it 3.5 stars but I'll round to four. read more

This is such a great, fun stop in St. Augustine, steps from the beach. The Brie Burger is the best burger I've had in ages. I chose their special dill potato salad. It was just o.k., probably will get coleslaw next time. Two family members had the Tampa Cuban, and both commented that it was done perfectly. We also tried the fish tacos, with the fresh fish of the day. Wonderful as well. Server told us, Key Lime Pie is made fresh, from a neighbor's home grown key limes. Fun decor, friendly service. The service was great at this place. It was chilly that night but they sat us quick and next to one of the space heaters. The best part of the meal was the chicken Caesar salad. My mother in law ordered dolphin fingers which she was super disappointed about. They gave her like two large pieces and then very small little runts. It almost seemed like what was left at the bottom of the bag. It was also super greasy. There wasn't a whole lot of meat on them and did not taste fresh. The seafood platter was good. It was more presentation than everything since it only came with 2 oysters , 2 shrimp, calamari and some dip. We also got gator bites which also just seemed like mostly breading. read more

We came in for lunch and I will give 5 stars for our server Jennifer because she is truly deserving of it. What a wonderful personality and she is very enthusiastic about the menu and chef. I ordered a Goombay Smash and it was one of the best I've ever had so of course I needed another!!! Beers were ice cold (in the bottle). We started with conch fritters and although they were super tasty and I liked the sauce there really wasn't a lot of conch in it. But it did have a great flavor. For lunch we ordered the hogfish sandwich special and at Jennifer's recommendation we got the beans and rice as the side. The beans and rice stole the show here! Awesome flavor! The fish was a good sized piece and was also delish. Fun laid back atmosphere right off the dunes of the beach. They are following Covid guidelines and tables are socially distanced. read more

Oh my. The coconut shrimp was a winner. Add the mango tropical drink (I cant remember the name!) and you have a really, really good combination. This is probably the best coconut shrimp I have ever had. We also got Lobster Rangoons for the table, they were a little light on lobster, but still really tasty. Our waitress was wonderful, very responsive and friendly. It was super hot out but everyone was having fun! We were sat in the corner in the back so we had a bit of shade. Definitely one of those places you want to come and sit and sip on tropical drinks. I hope to get back there soon! read more

Was looking forward to this place after reading the great reviews and seeing that it was right on the beach. I got the catch of the day with fries and hubs got fried shrimp with hush puppies and coleslaw. We were very disappointed in our food. Both of the batters for the items were very bland. I mean NO FLAVOR at all. Not even some salt on the fish. If it wasn't for the 4 different sauces I asked for them I wouldn't have been able to even finish what I did. Hubs said the hush puppies were the worst he's ever tasted before. I felt like we shouldn't have even had to pay for the food but didn't want to be one of those people so we paid and left and we will definitely not be making a planned trip here. Even if we were at the beach and needed to grab something to eat real quick, there are other restaurants in walking distance and taco shop is right around the corner which is good. Please put some salt and pepper in your batter. At least just salt. Some garlic powder wouldn't hurt either. read more

We came to St. Augustine for Spring Break & were told to try out the Beachcomber. I can see why it is so popular! the drinks were SO good, food was delicious, atmosphere was great.....I mean, it's right on the beach! the service was phenomenal! Our waiter was Dawson and he was great! Because the drinks were so good and we were having such a good time, I accidentally left my purse! We drove back to VA the next day and I didn't realize my forgotten purse until we were back home. The staff at Beachcomber had found my purse and put it in their safe. They went above and beyond in FedExing my purse (with all of its contents!) back to me. Mike, thank you SO much for going the extra mile. The beachcomber is a cute bar restaurant. Very casual and layer back but very popular! I waited 40 minutes to sit down and was pretty impressed with the food. This was my third time coming to the restaurant and would definitely come back! I ordered the classic burger which came out pretty fast and was pretty tasty for "bar" food. My friend ordered the shrimp which was also very tasty. Lastly, we ordered key lime pie which was amazing! Probably one of the best pies I've ever had so I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting St. Augustine. (Also VERY dog friendly which is very cute. AMAZING dinner spot!! My husband and I drove over here for dinner and we did have to wait but that was perfectly fine!! The restaurant is on the beach so we were able to walk right over to the water with our dog and chill and take some pictures during our wait! Once we got called to our table, we ordered a couple drinks (which were delicious) and it was a great time! Dylan was our waiter and he was the sweetest and just the overall best! Came here on Memorial Day weekend... it was a bit crazy. Seemed there was only one true bartender and a cook. There were others around, but couldn't tell what they were actually doing. The place was slammed and people were complaining but the bartender and kitchen staff just kept on serving. We waited 1.5 hours when we were quoted 40 minutes to wait. We eventually left without getting sat. The staff was standing around & the hostess had a horrible attitude. Mind you this was with a 7 month pregnant woman and a toddler. The restaurant had plenty of open tables but we're not seating people at them. Not only is the atmosphere of this place such a calm reggae filled vibe, the food is immaculate. I will be coming back with my friends to indulge in the deliciousness. It is so close to the beach you can eat drink and then go right to the beach barefoot if you'd like, they also have this cozy corner with beach, chairs, side tables in the sand to enjoy a beer and laugh with your friends. We love St. Augustine but we had a terrible weekend with awful service everywhere we were. EXCEPT for the beachcomber. the minute we walked in from the greeting at the door to sitting at the bar with the super kind staff. This place rescued our weekend. I even heard the bartender give advice to a New Hire. He said (hey were you super kind and as nice as possible) that's all it takes. My husband and I visit my in-laws frequently in St Augustine and have to come here every time we visit (sometimes multiple times). We had a great experience here. We loved that we could enjoy the beach with our dogs and also bring them with us to the restaurant. We had the gator tail which was nice. I wasn't particularly fond of the sweet n sour sauce it's served with. I would've liked cocktail sauce or a Cajun sauce better but the gator tail itself was nice. My husband got a bourbon street plate with smoked andouille sausage, shrimp, on a bed of red beans and rice. The sausage was amazing. I ordered some fried shrimp since we hadn't had any on the trip so far. The shrimp were huge and our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. 8 shrimp would've been sufficient even with us sharing. The only thing I didn't care for was the cole slaw. It was like eating just cabbage with mayonnaise. I like mayonnaise and vinegar based slaws- but this was bland. So skip the cole slaw and try something else for a side. We also enjoyed our key lime pie that we took home to eat. read more

My original review was deleted off of Google Reviews so I decided to repost it here. My family, boyfriend, and I went for lunch while we were on vacation. The service was awful. The server asked if we were all going to be on one bill, when we told her that it would be 2 separate, she sighed and rolled her eyes. My boyfriend has an extremely bad dairy allergy (to the point that if he has dairy, it would kill him) when asking what he could have the waitress was very rude about everything. He asked if the fries have any sort of dairy on them and the waitress replied with "Well. I would assume so." The only thing that he ordered from there was a salad because the waitress was not willing to ask to see what food contained dairy. The food was good. However, due to our experience none of us are likely to return. I am not recommending this place to anyone with any sort of bad food allergy. read more
