When we arrived at St. George Tavern it was packed. We got lucky as when we got there one of the tables opened up so we ran to grab it. The server kindly requested we wait while she buses/cleans the table. It seemed like that server (Heather, I think?) was the busser, server, and bartender for the whole restaurant. I saw only one other person working there, which I believe was the cook. With a packed restaurant, Heather was still able to provide us good service. Unfortunately, the place needs a deep cleaning as exhibited by the insanely dusty chandelier pictured. My burger was pretty good, but the queso con carne was essentially super-greasy chili with cheese on top. I crossed the threshold of this bar out of the bright sunshine into this almost dark alley like setting, as my eyes adjusted I could see a few empty bar stools on the left across from the almost empty row of booths. We opted for the bar near the back of this narrow venue, the bar top was sticky but was quickly wiped down after we were seated. I'd love to see the interior fully lit but I doubt that would ever happen the darkness conceals things I probably wouldn't want to see anyway - it's seems there's a lifetime of clutter behind the bar with a narrow space for the bartenders to maneuver. The bartender wasn't overly friendly but somewhat efficient in her routine, I'm sure she's seen it all and was somewhat robotic in her greeting and drink recommendations, we ordered a margarita and a draft. The beer was served in a warm glass stacked on the bar back so the end result was a little disappointing - the margarita salt was adhered to the rim with some kind of unidentifiable syrupy substance that was gross and unappealing. Despite all of the disappointment this is a very nostalgic bar and people flock here for that apparently, it's definitely one you should visit if you're doing the St. George Street bar crawl but I'd stick to a shot of whiskey or tequila if I were to do it again. We ran into a couple we met at an earlier establishment and they were chowing on melts, their theory was the food was delicious but you need to over look some of the good housekeeping practices I guess hot grease and alcohol are somewhat preventative sanitary measures. Hey it is what it is and it was something I wanted to experience so they get a reluctant thumps up from me - I'm sure if you come here with a few friends to party and are less observant it may be a completely different experience so by no means is it a place to avoid... read more

St. George Tavern is touted.as "the oldest pub in the oldest city (in the U.S.). Don't imagine Spanish settlers sitting down here for pitchers of sangria or glasses of wine. It's not really that old. It was established in 1941. Still, it's a cool dive bar to drop into and get a cold beer at a reasonable price. Keep in mind, it is a bar where smoking is allowed but the service is friendly and fairly quick. A cool place to visit if you're into dive bars. read more

Just popped in for a few beers while we were visiting the area. The Tavern is an old-school staple of St Augustine, and it just felt like an old worn coat. It was seasoned, but provided the tavern basics you would expect. What it lacked in modernity, it more than made up for in that vibe great old taverns put out. Great crowd and a fun time. read more

Visiting St. Augustine is always a treat! We stopped in on a beautiful Tuesday morning to check out this quaint bar. it was one of the oldest bars in STA. Because it was so early in the morning, we only had club sodas, but we spied a fried bologna sandwich, and decided to order one to share. We took it with us and headed to the beach. By the time we got around to eating our sandwich, it was cold, but let me tell you it was absolutely delicious! I can only imagine what it would've been like had we eaten it right away. Tony and I stopped at St George's Street Tavern in St Augustine Florida. This was our favorite dive bar in St Augustine. It was a little dark inside, cool from the heat and crowded, but nice. This is by far the worst bar ever. If you are not a local expect to be treated like crap. I was waiting in line at the service bar snd some local yelled passed me three times and got serve before I did. He then reached around me to grab menus as I wasn't moving. I finally got my drink and asked the bartender if I was invisible as I clearly have bene standing here waiting. She said no hes a regular and I want on them first... the bar was a mess with dirty glasses everywhere along with bottle of liquor so anyone could grab the bottle and leavem. This was our favorite spot for drinks during our stay in St. Augustine. We stopped in everyday. Jill the Bartender was great! Strong pours, and very reasonably priced. We didn't have any food, which is served daily until 3pm, but our shuttle bus driver who frequents this spot said the food was delicious. This is a dive bar of the highest degree. Nothing fancy here, just good times and tasty shots. It is the type of place that attracts the locals, and that is fine with me. The bartenders are old school, and I have to say that I have missed that attitude in 2020. I've been here before. It's always pretty crowded. Sometimes-you can't get in or get a seat. I do like the place for a quick drink. The last 3-4 trips to St. Augustine, we have been here almost every night. We like to sit, drink, and smoke at the same time so this is the place to do that. The drinks are probably the most reasonably priced in the area that I found. The 2 downsides in my opinion, is the place gets packed once people in the biz come in, which is around 11pm. The other is the staff does NOT mess around at closing time. They are kind of rude and I get that. They are used to obnoxious intoxicated people. It does take a while to order drinks. read more

The only bar in the area that wasnt closing its doors early on a Wednesday night (10pm). I dont 100% blame the other bars since it was a slow night due to the pandemic, but this bar was packed as a result. They werent enforcing social distancing or requiring pople to wear masks. This would have made me too uncomfortable to stay here but luckily, they offered drinks to go! Since this bar is on st george street it was nice to step outside and sit on an outdoor bench, or walk up and down the street. The drinks were nice and strong and the bartender was pretty friendly. We are in a hotel down the street so we will definitely be frequenting this bar during our stay here. read more

This is a cool, lowkey dive bar in the busy St. George Street area of town. It's a fun place to hang out, the bartenders are cool, there seem to be a lot of locals that hang out, and it's not overly loud. Really the only issue is that it gets crowded enough to where you can't always find a spot! There were two times we tried to go, but since it's smaller place there was just no where to sit and hang out and there's not really enough room for standing either so we had to leave. I love dive bars so much but even more the ones that allow indoor smoking. Cheap drinks right in the heart of the Old City with the quirkiest characters around are the perfect recipe for a good time. Open late and a quick walk or a Uber ride away from both the beachside and downtown. Drinks are poured here at lightning speed and the service is incredibly quick despite the crowds they have. I met some cool locals here during a few drinks with the mister and we laughed all night over great conversation. The bathrooms are actually clean which is rare for a dive bar. Many locals gather here as it's the watering hole for many in the area in search of a stiff drink after a long hard day of work. I love bars like this and after a bunch of cheap beers and cigarettes, I hit the sack happy knowing I got my buzz on here and not some sterile bar instead. read more
