Ruben and Mac and cheese

Food was great! Service was even better! I got my Ruben with sour dough.. not a fan of rye and they easily accommodated! Super yummy and in a great area!

We were in St Augustine for the weekend and looking for somewhere to get Happy Hour. We found Barley Republic and their specials sounded good so we decided to check it out. Their HH is til 7pm, $5 smash burgers and wings as well as various drink specials. We both got smash burgers, added fries ($2) and cheese ($1.50) + fried pickles. Our server was pretty absent, we had to flag her down many times and were left waiting around looking for her. My SO got the bacon washed Old Fashioned and it was the smallest OF we've ever seen. His glass wasn't even filled 2 fingers full and thats with a big ice cube in it. It was pretty pitiful and he said it was just ok tasting. Our server dropped our food and said she'd bring us silverware and napkins and after waiting for at least five minutes I went to the server station and got them myself. This was a repeating pattern with her, she'd say she'd get us something and then never followed through. Our burgers were good, as were the fries, especially for the price. We also ordered the fried pickles which were spears cut into small pieces that were breaded and fried. They were good as well! The food definitely saved our overall experience but i'm not sure we'll be returning anytime soon.

Holiday Cocktail Menu

This was my first time here, but a lot in our group had been here before and said it was a "must stop" on our adult evening in St Augustine. We were able to get a table upstairs for 8-10 people. It was cozy up there, and they had a large projector screen to watch college football. They had a good holiday cocktail list- the peppermint espresso martini was amazing! Just the right hint of peppermint but not overpowering. The other popular choice in our group was the Xmas Old Fashioned. Food wise- we got some chicken tenders and curry pub fries. Just wanted some things to snack on, and they hit the spot. Service was pretty quick also with it being St Augustine during Nights of Lights season. I will definitely go back in the future- glad our friends recommended it

Late night dinner in old st Augustine on a Saturday night. This was one of only a few places open after 10pm. Apparently this town sleeps in early; even on a Saturday night. Go figure. We sat outside since the weather was nice and cool. Service was good. Fish and chips were very good. The lamb burger was perfectly cooked and tasty. I recommend.

This pub is just a standard st aug pub, nothing noteworthy. Beer was cold, glass was clean, a/c was blasting. If it wasn't the dead of summer it could be fun to sit out front with your dog.

I'm not sure now why I chose Barley Republic for dinner, aside from their dog-friendly patio, but that was a good enough reason. I'd called ahead to double-check that we could bring Gilligan, since Nights of Lights was ongoing, and I also wanted to see if we could get on the waitlist. Yes for dogs; no for a reservation or call-ahead list. But I was assured the wait on a table for four around 6pm on the first Saturday of December wouldn't be more than about 45 minutes. Our wait was at least that long, though we were able to get drinks & hang out on the open side patio for most of our wait. Unfortunately, it started raining before we were seated, and there wasn't much of any covered wait area. We relocated near the entrance to get out of the rain, and I think we ended up getting a table quicker because our small group was kind of in the way of the main entrance. Their covered porch wasn't large but, as I mentioned, it's dog-friendly. We were seated in the corner, with mostly bench seating, so our 15lb chiweenie could sit with us instead of on the ground. After he had a few bites, he was able to lay down & snooze, too, in spite of all the noise from both the street & restaurant. I ordered Baked Mac & Cheese and added the fried chicken thigh. It was very tasty! Hubs enjoyed the Reuben sandwich, which had a lot of corned beef. My son liked his BYOB Burger, and my DIL also enjoyed the Fried Haddock sandwich with a side of cole slaw. And we all loved the fries! Service was good throughout. We really appreciated the open waiting area on the side porch. Until it started raining, this was an ideal spot with a ledge for drinks and bar stools. We'll definitely return on a future St Augustine visit.

Fun vibe and good bar food!! Props to this place for being open late! This was one of the place suggested by a local in town and it was what we needed late night -- chicken tenders and Mac n cheese were pretty awesome!

Bailey was an outstanding server!! Food was amazing!! Try the lamb burger!!! The wedge salad was so huge and flavorful. I suggest you add the shaved ribeye! This pub is legit. The place was hopping and the bar was full. Ambiance was adorable!

Chicken fingers - nice people, trash kitchen

Hostes was sweet - food is trash. The guys working in the back need to be let go I expected more from the reviews. Don't be fooled - do not eat here.

Yuck

We got a table for a party of 5, and thankfully did not have to wait a long time. The service was fine and we did not have to wait for our server to come check on us between other tables. She was nice and on top of what we were ordering. My main issues: two of the drinks we ordered had flies/bugs in them. I'm talking 3-4 bugs in each drink. I'm not sure if they landed on the orange garnish that got put in our drinks or what, but it was not ideal. We swapped for another beverage and didn't have an issue. The other issue was the food itself. Thankfully everything came out really hot and pretty fast, but it was just super mediocre. The shepherd's pie was a bit lackluster and my husband said it was not seasoned/kind of tasteless. I'm sure it's just because of the busyness, but still disappointing. The party outside seemed super fun and everyone who was just drinking and standing for the music were happy. I would give it another chance, but absolutely not on a holiday adventure.

The two diagonal cut egg rolls arrived steaming hot and were stuffed with corned beef, sauerkraut, and cheese. The thousand island sauce was the perfect compliment to the corned beef. We shared the fish and chips for our entree. The fish filets were large and perfectly fried. The steak fries were fresh and added nicely to the fish. The slaw was a bit bland and really did not add to the meal. The beer is always cold and they offer a large selection of cocktails. I tried the Irish margarita. It was the perfect balance between orange and margarita sour. Service is always friendly and efficient. This pub is relaxing and comfortable. We usually sit in the bar and this time we sat on the side near the banquet area. We noticed an actual pinball game and chose to play a few games. It added to the experience. They also have Uno, Old Maid/Go Fish, and cards for playing.

We visited with a party of four on a Saturday evening and were quoted about an hour. Honestly, we didn't mind at all. We spent the time looking at the bayfront, enjoying the evening, and catching up on life while we waited. Parking, however, is another story. That's downtown St. Augustine these days--not Harry's fault--but be prepared. We ended up paying $25 to park and had about a 10-minute walk to the restaurant. Still worth it. We were seated outside at a spacious round table, which was perfect for conversation. The patio has a cozy garden feel with tiki torches, string lights, and beautiful landscaping. The only downside was that our table was tucked into a back corner where two walls met, so it didn't catch much of the evening breeze and got pretty warm. On the bright side, the tiki torches seemed to keep the bugs away because they weren't an issue at all. Our server, Samantha, was friendly and did a great job despite how busy the restaurant was. Water refills were a little slower than I'd normally like on a hot Florida evening, but with such a full restaurant, it was understandable and certainly wasn't enough to take away from an otherwise great experience. The only significant miss of the night was the live entertainment. We've visited many times when they've had musicians performing, and it's usually one of the things we enjoy most. Tonight's performer was a talented keyboard player, but unfortunately the vocals were consistently off pitch and the lyrics were difficult to understand. Familiar songs weren't recognizable until the chorus. Hopefully it was just an off night because our previous experiences with the live music have all been excellent. Now...the food. We never skip the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer. Years ago we made a point of ordering fried green tomatoes everywhere we went while visiting Savannah, Georgia, and Harry's is still my favorite. The coating is perfectly crisp and actually stays attached to the tomato, while the creamy goat cheese and remoulade sauce bring everything together. Two of the slices were noticeably smaller than the others this visit, but we devoured them so quickly I didn't even think to take a picture! I ordered the Shrimp & Grits, and it was outstanding. If you're sensitive to spice like I am, don't let the Cajun flavors scare you away. It has just enough kick to add flavor without overpowering the dish. The creamy grits topped with freshly shaved Parmesan paired perfectly with the rich sauce. Do yourself a favor and ask for bread--you'll want every last drop of that sauce. My husband ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna, which has become his favorite thing on the menu. He orders it almost every time we visit, and it never disappoints. The other two in our party ordered one of the chicken pasta dishes and one of the shrimp pasta dishes. Both were flavorful without being spicy, making them great choices for anyone who prefers milder options. To drink, I had the Hurricane ($12.99), which was exactly what I was hoping for--fruity, refreshing, and perfect for a summer evening. My husband ordered a Tall Tito's & Tonic with a twist. He said it was good, but nothing particularly memorable. Harry's continues to be one of those restaurants we come back to year after year because it's consistently good. Between the atmosphere, the food, the location across from the bayfront, and the friendly service, it's easy to see why it's become a downtown St. Augustine favorite. We'll definitely be back.

The combination of imaginative cocktails, exceptional food, and a unique atmosphere makes every visit memorable. The cocktail program is outstanding. We enjoy trying a variety of their exotic and inventive drinks, and they never disappoint. The flavors are bold, creative, and unlike anything you'll find at a typical restaurant bar. The Yellow Submarine cocktail is quite possibly the best drink I have ever consumed. Made with curry-infused Bermuda black rum, lime, ginger, and Asian five-spice brown sugar syrup, it sounded unusual on paper but came together beautifully. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered four of them that evening, something I rarely do. That was three years ago, and despite returning several times since then, I have never seen it on the menu again. The food is equally impressive. Two years ago, I ordered the Skillet Roasted New York Strip served with Yukon Gold potato-anna, roasted asparagus and spring onions, watercress, and black truffle hollandaise. To this day, it remains one of the top five restaurant meals I have ever eaten. Every component on the plate was exceptional. The steak was perfectly prepared, the crispy potato galette was irresistible, and the black truffle hollandaise elevated the entire dish to another level. It was the kind of meal that stays with you long after the plate is cleared. I would gladly drive 300 miles just to eat it again. Most recently, I had the wild mushroom bisque, and it was the best soup I have ever consumed. Rich, creamy, buttery, intensely mushroomy, and perfectly balanced, it was everything a mushroom soup should be. The addition of crispy pickled onions and crème fraîche added texture and contrast that made an already outstanding soup even better. My wife and I enjoyed it so much that we returned the very next day hoping to order it again, only to discover it had already rotated off the menu. My only complaint about The Ice Plant is that some of their greatest creations seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive. While I appreciate the constantly evolving menu and understand that seasonal changes are part of what makes the restaurant special, there are certain items that deserve a permanent home. The Yellow Submarine cocktail, the wild mushroom bisque, and the Skillet Roasted New York Strip with black truffle hollandaise are three of the finest things I have experienced there. The fact that I can vividly remember one of these items from three years ago and another from two years ago says everything. Great restaurants serve good food. Truly special restaurants create dishes and drinks that stay with you for years. The Ice Plant has done that for me more than once, and that is why we continue to return whenever we visit St. Augustine.

The Ice Plant is one of those places where the experience starts before you ever take a bite of…read morefood. The decor fits St. Augustine perfectly. Antique, rustic, comfortable, and full of enough character that you almost feel like you've stepped 200 years back in time. Then the drinks arrive, and suddenly you realize you've been transported into the future of cocktails. I wish I could remember the name of the drink I ordered because it was spectacular. Whiskey, a little sweetness, mint, and crushed ice. That's about all I can tell you. What I can tell you is that I could have happily consumed about 30 of them, tumbled down the stairs, and been perfectly happy about the whole experience. My wife went with the Mojito, and it was brilliantly constructed. The crushed ice and layered mint made it look almost too good to drink. Almost. The drinks absolutely deserve five stars. Then came the blue crab beignets, and they were spectacular. That's the kind of appetizer that makes you stop talking for a minute because everyone at the table is too busy enjoying what's happening. Unfortunately, the rest of the food didn't quite live up to the cocktails. The fish dip was very average and lacked much flavor, and the menu itself felt pretty limited. So here's the deal: if you're coming to The Ice Plant for drinks, I would have no problem giving it five stars. The cocktails are that good. This is a highly recommended stop for a drink in St. Augustine. But I have to review the entire experience, and the limited menu and average fish dip bring the overall experience down a notch. Four stars. Come for the drinks. Stay for the atmosphere. Definitely order the blue crab beignets. And if you happen to find yourself three cocktails deep, admiring the antique decor while contemplating the stairs, maybe just take your time.
