Was here twice in the same day. First time for cocktails at the bar and the second for dinner. Both experiences were very good! The first time we were served by Angel at the bar and she made rum runners on the rocks & my wife had the mango paradise. Both were very refreshing! So much so we had several each as we watched the Cubs on TV. Fly the W! Angel and the vibe at the bar is very chill & welcoming. Our second encounter was for dinner a couple of hours after our first encounter and even at 8:30PM there was still a wait. We actually ate outside at one of the booths where its first come first serve. This time we just had a couple of beers each along with our entrees. I had the Seafood Combo which was trigger fish & shrimp (blackened) with 2 sides (fresh greens beans & cole slaw). My wife had the Sunset Shrimp Pasta Bowl which had 9 pieces of shrimp in a cream based sauce which she said was fantastic! We also got a free t-shirt for our efforts! Woohoo! It was next to hotel and late and open so we went. The chowder mixed with conch was flavorful and good. Their chowder is nice thickness. The bisque was good as well. The ruby reds are fantastic. Easy to peel and the cocktail sauce was nice. Should have ordered more. The butter is too watery and doesn't provide much flavor for it. The grouper was bland and boring. Blackened is apparently just burnt without flavor. The cream sauce didn't help. The collard greens I took one bite and that was it. Just nothing to it. The beans and rice was ok. Coconut shrimp was too sweet with the pina sauce. Just ok. Kids loved the kraft Mac and cheese. And the burger was very bland. Nice bun though. The key lime pie was sweet but the crust was good. This is one popular place, we got here right at dinner prime time, but only had to wait about 10 min to get in. They also have a bar area which is first come first serve. Huge bar with plenty of drinks and beers. They have TVs all over the place, so you can easily catch the big games. Plenty of seating, even rooftop, which was packed and a long wait. The food was tasty, not amazing, but good. My fish was overcooked, but the delicious grits made up for it. The tortellini was good, as was the coconut shrimp. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu, everything was a hit! Omg the clam chowder fries were BOMB, we got them on a whim because we were cold and wasn't expecting them to be so addictive, no wonder they're award winning. Sat outside at picnic tables (you can bring your dog- only during the day- no food there at night) I give the service a 2 star, Took a bit to be waited on, we made sure we ordered when she came to ask us about drinks. It was raining when we dined here so it is hard to rate the ambiance but overall it gave beach bar/restaurant. The food was amazing! The oysters were a stand out. The outdoor area is seat yourself and I picked a high top table that allowed me to enjoy the nice breeze. Abigail was my server and answered my questions while also giving me suggestions. I started with the sunset oysters that were filled with spinach dip type of filling. They were flavorful and satisfied my craving for chargrilled oysters. I asked Abigail which fish she suggested between the grouper and the trigger. She said she likes the blackened trigger fish more and I took that suggestion. There are not a lot of side options, I selected the green beans and black beans with rice. I've never had trigger fish and didn't know what to expect. It has a similar texture to tilapia and the sauce on top gave an extra layer of flavor. The sides were ok, nothing to brag about. Not being a pasta person, I really don't know how the cavatoppi (sp?) tasted, but the shrimp. Now, I am not talking little popcorn Shrimp, I am talking big ole shrimp. Visiting St Augustine from Broward County. Was looking for a place not crowded near the beach for drinks and appetizers. Wanted to sit outside and enjoy the cool weather. Upstairs was closed so decided to sit downstairs which was opened to the air but covered with heaters. The inside bar area was packed. Sweet waitress took our drink order and came back for our app order. My husband ended up returning his mojito which he never does. Said it tasted awful. Waitress replaced drink with no problem. The other two drinks were just average. The appetizers consisted of coconut shrimp which were average in size but tasty. The other was a mahi fish dip which was terrible. Tasted like tuna fish served with crackers individually wrapped. Did even finish it. Over all the atmosphere was very nice however I do not think I would return. read more

Dear Management at Sunset, I am writing to share my feedback regarding my recent visit to your St. Augustine, Florida location. Unfortunately, my experience was very poor. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the food as a 4. The environment was extremely uncomfortable as there was no air conditioning, only ceiling fans, which resulted in a stuffy odor. Furthermore, I noticed that the bathrooms are not handicap accessible for anyone using a wheelchair or scooter. To add to these issues, the staff manager was very rude and demonstrated poor manners toward the customers. Overall, it was a horrible experience, and I do not intend to return. Not great. We went here a year ago and thought it was really good. This time, not so much. My shrimp was not hot at all. My son got the blackened fish sandwich and later that night he started feeling bad. He seemed to have food poisoning and became pretty sick. While you can't know for sure what the cause was, it started a few hours after eating here. Don't think we will be back. Hopefully the restaurant monitors their cooking practices a little closer. read more

We came here on a whim while we were on this side of town on a day off. My kiddo had a hankering for a burger, and we remembered they have a wide variety of items on the menu, so we ended up at Sunset Grille. When we arrived, we checked in at the host/hostess stand and were quickly shown our table, given menus. Justin our server stopped by to take our drink orders. After having a few minutes to look over the menu, we all decided: a kid's hamburger meal for my kiddo, a blackened fish sandwich for me w/ fries, and a chicken sandwich w/ fries for my husband. Justin checked in with us, refilled our drinks and you could tell he was really hustling with all the tables he was managing. Our food came out quickly and was warm. My fish sandwich was large and delicious, the fries were delicious. My husband and son said they enjoyed their meals. You may think since this location is so close to the beach that prices would be high, but I think the the prices are fine and portions are generous. read more

I usually think it's a good sign when a restaurant is busy each time I pass by. This was the case with this place. It was close to our hotel so we ended up here after work and not being able to get a reservation at another recommended spot. It was super busy but our wait was pretty short. In my opinion, the menu was waayyyy too extensive. So many random items. I wanted something a little lighter so when I saw salmon poke bowl I was really excited...well..it came to the table and poke it was not. My piece of salmon was cooked and not raw and cubed like I expected. I asked the server and she said yes it does come cooked and not raw. Poke means RAW. Lol. It was good but I was disappointed that it wasn't what it should have been. I'm a sucker for a great key lime pie..this one was made from scratch. I enjoyed the crust but the filling didn't taste like key lime..very faint lime taste and the whipped topping didn't taste like anything.
