This restaurant is four doors down from the place we are staying. Last year we were here for a week and the place was down for maintenance the whole time. Looking forward to this year, I couldn't wait to try it. It was down for annual maintenance again but this year we are here longer. On the second day that it was open, we went in. It did not disappoint. We went for an early lunch. When we got there it was almost empty. By the time we left, it was full. I had the fish bites with a cup of New England style clam chowder. Dear Management at Sunset, I am writing to share my feedback regarding my recent visit to your St. Augustine, Florida location. Unfortunately, my experience was very poor. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the food as a 4. The environment was extremely uncomfortable as there was no air conditioning, only ceiling fans, which resulted in a stuffy odor. Furthermore, I noticed that the bathrooms are not handicap accessible for anyone using a wheelchair or scooter. To add to these issues, the staff manager was very rude and demonstrated poor manners toward the customers. Overall, it was a horrible experience, and I do not intend to return. Hello Yelpers! I know, I know. It's been awhile. Happy 2025 and I hope the new year has been bringing everyone happiness and full bellies. So, let this be my first review of 2025. Unfortunately, when we heard of this place it was really hyped up versus our real experience. My wife and I went to a book event in St. Augustine and since it was our first time in the area, this place was recommended to us with high reviews. Well, we tried it and sad to say, it was a bit disappointing. Let's start with the ambiance. This place was a beach side theme but one of the immediate things that stood out to us was it was so loud we could barely hold a conversation without yelling. Next, we have to give props to the service as the crew was on top of things like clearing plates and making sure we didn't need anything. But, it wasn't overbearing. One of the things that stood out to us was, they brought us out the wrong wings (we didn't know because it was our first time and had no idea what the wings looked like), but they immediately brought us out the right ones with a smile on their face and told us to enjoy the wrong wings on the house. We didn't need drinks refilled because well, the cups were large enough to last you through the entire meal (at least for us). Finally, the food. We ordered the crab bisque fries, clam chowder, and wings with their homemade blue cheese. The chowder was good and the wings were ok. Unfortunately, the fries that are their most popular were so soggy because of everything piled on top of them, that you couldn't enjoy the fries or the flavor of all the toppings. In the end, it wasn't a bad experience and the food cost less than $60. This is our own experience and keep in mind, we all have different opinions and taste palettes. Been a favorite joint of our's for years! Great food, drinks and service. Sarah was our awesome bartender!

We both ordered the snapper one grilled One blackened. The grilled one was overcooked and was rubbery and un edible. Told the waitress, manager came over, switched out the entrée with a different entrée, took off the charge, but charged us more for the next entrée. Should have kept the same price with their mistake or taken off charge entirely. Then later that night had a horrible stomachache. not sure what they did to fish but won't be back. read more

Not great. We went here a year ago and thought it was really good. This time, not so much. My shrimp was not hot at all. My son got the blackened fish sandwich and later that night he started feeling bad. He seemed to have food poisoning and became pretty sick. While you can't know for sure what the cause was, it started a few hours after eating here. Don't think we will be back. Went ahead and stopped in for some food while watching the games. Ordered cup of crabby fries(amazing), triple d wings along with datyl wings (wifey) and wings were great. Good food, good service. Abby our server was on it before we ever needed to ask for anything. Ahi tuna bowl was a generous portion. We went for lunch on the upper deck and it was nice and quiet with 80s music. Our only complaint is that the bathrooms were filthy and toilets there don't work properly. read more

Local & tourist spot along A1A. Canadians will love their Crabby Fries (seafood Southern Poutine, using crab & artichoke bisque over french fries instead of gravy). Very good but we were looking for a little more spiciness so we added the table Sunset Grilles Datil sauce. Good lunch service from Britnie (no upsale for apps & bevvies we didn't want). Now MORE parking spots available: beside on the side & behind their building, a huge lot kitty corner on A1A. I bicycled here-locking my beach cruiser on their handy bike rack. Went for a late lunch and was very glad I tried this place. Patio is dog friendly and my server, Chase, even brought water for my pup. He was attentive and very pleasant. Food came out promptly. I had the coconut shrimp entree with the corn salad and black beans with rice. The pina colada dipping sauce was so good, the rice and beans had peppers and onions so it was quite tasty. Perfect for locals and tourists. A St. Augustine institution. I came here in 1995 and I still love going there. By this time, I know all the staff, but you can guarantee you'll get good service and they must be doing something right because the staff does not leave. Love the airy open feel of this restaurant with large windows that are open to the outdoor dining area! Even the bar area has cushioned, comfortable bar seats! The staff is friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was attentive and checked on us often. I started with a scrumptious cup of the Minorcan Conch Chowder. Oh man! Perfectly spiced and so satisfying! My main was the Shrimp Platter and I ordered my shrimp grilled with the two sides of coleslaw and collard greens. Everything was so well seasoned I didn't even need cocktail sauce. My husband decided to try the Nina's French Toast. The Rice Krispie French toast had a satisfying crunchy texture and the accompanying spicy honey syrup, Datil ranch, and homemade pickled vegetables paired perfectly! Sunset Grille was fine. The evening we dined here, it was beautiful evening to be outside and unfortunately the roof seating was not open. We sat outside on the first level, still a nice spot. Server was professional and the beer was cold. I elected the Fish and Chips, which were OK. In Florida, there are so many good options for fish and this was pretty mid range. I also ordered the Key Lime Pie which was also OK, a bit bland. For my taste, it could have had a bit more of the Lime flavor. Overall an average outing. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch today and were seated immediately. We had a great server who answered our questions and served us promptly. The food was very good. I had the Minorcan chowder and it was one of the best I have had. Spice level was perfect and it was chock full of stuff. I had the Sunset Salad with grilled triggerfish. Fish was a huge portion and was cooked perfectly. I would have liked a bit more lettuce in my salad but the surprise ingredient was the sweet potato hummus. It was terrific. My husband had the fish tacos with rice and beans. He was very pleased with his choice. We sat in the room with the bar. They have fans going because the windows open up to their front porch. We stopped here hoping we would have lunch with a nice view, (it is called Sunset Grille after all) but the view was of the busy road and the back of some hotels and a donut shop. However, the staff was super friendly, we were seated right away upstairs, and the fried pickles and triggerfish sandwich were amazing. I never had Triggerfish before. It was light, juicy, and sweet with the perfect amount of blackened seasoning. We didn't find out that St Augustine is known for daytil peppers until a few days later, so we would definitely return and try their version of Bang Bang shrimp with datil sauce. Came here bc they had tonssss of gluten free options! very casual beachy kind of vibe - it definitely seemed like a local spot. we got there around 7 and it was packed. we ended up finding a booth near the bar area (it was realllly loud) because we wanted to watch the dolphin preseason game but they didn't offer it we decided to stay anyway - we ordered the dry rub wings as an appetizer and each ordered the fish sandwich. the wings were SO CRISPY, SO DELICIOUS and the ranch was chefs kiss. food was excellent here and i would definitely return. can't stop thinking about the wings hahaha read more
