So we needed a place to eat breakfast and I found this one and it was rated well. We were seated right away and our first server was exceptionally friendly. I told her I didn't want much and she said I could get any omelette with just two eggs I said perfect. But then we were turned over to another girl who was very nice breaker B. I told her I just wanted a two egg chili Verde omelette with fruit and coffee cake. My husband got the ABC omelette with coffee cake and she suggested potatoes. I also had coffee which was pretty good. We got the coffee cake first and each ate some of it and I finished mine up later. But my omelette was a whole omelette. So I told her I only wanted the two egg and she said she could take it back and get a two egg or just eat what you can I said OK. Then when we got the bill I was charged for a whole omelette, but I did tell the guy who picked up the tab and he took two dollars off. I hate wasting food and I thought I'd communicated fine. I love chili Verde omelettes, but this one was on the spicy side more for my husband than me. The potatoes were a little on the mushy side. The fruit was pretty good. I took pictures because I love surfing and loved all the surf paraphernalia. In the bathroom, they had so many neat murals all over the wall. Three stars. Beach Break Cafe feels like one of those longtime local spots people grow up with, there's probably some nostalgia baked in. For us, it didn't quite land the same. Food was okay, nothing to complain about, and it came out quick which I appreciated. The gravy did taste like clam chowder which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, just different. Coffee showed up lukewarm though, and the service felt a bit off. Our server seemed distracted, had to ask twice for Splenda, and eventually just grabbed it myself. At one point, he clocked out mid-shift without a word. It's fine, in fact I had just told my wife prior, looks like a lot of people working and not many people to serve, they should make some cuts. I will say, the busser stood out, incredibly kind and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Honestly, that was the first moment it felt like anyone really cared, so thank you for that. Hostess experience was mixed. We got seated, but no crayons for the kid, just a coloring page. I noticed a bunch behind the stand, so maybe you have to ask? They have 2 types of fresh homemade salsa and Tobasco! The salsas were perfect, the less spicy one cut some of the saltiness of the corned beef. One of the better breakfast options in Oceanside. Located right on HWY 101 it's not very far from the ocean and carries that casual, beachy feel to the restaurant. It's quite large on the inside with many different sitting areas as well as covered outdoor seating, which is where we sat for our breakfast. There is a large free parking lot in back so parking was really easy. Our waiter was also very polite and the service was very fast. Only downside was we had to wait about 30 mins to be seated for a party of 4 for our Saturday morning brunch. For my first visit I chose the Santa Fe Scramble and loved it. The chorizo was perfectly spicy and it was a large sized portion. I opted for the free Coffee Cake on the side and thought it was one of the best Coffee Cakes that I have had in a very long time. It was moist and full of cinnamon flavor and the glaze on top was warm and just mixed so well with it. I would not miss it! Overall a great breakfast spot. A few highlights: * Kid-Friendly: We sat on the patio which was perfect for the boys. I highly recommend swapping the toast for a drop biscuit and gravy--it's a welcome alternate that pairs perfectly. We also tried the popular Banana Crunch French Toast; it lived up to the hype with great texture and wasn't overly sweet. We chose a short stack of strawberry pancakes with pecans and a Cali Benedict- both of which were tasty and inexpensive for California pricing. Service was outstanding and the coffee was endless. Average wait times are about 15-30 mins depending on time you come and if it's an holiday weekend. The wait is ALWAYS worth it. My favorites are the omelettes and coffee cake. Waited for a table for 2. My name was called. Halfway to our table the person taking us there (pretty sure he's one of the owners) turns around and says...it's at the counter, is that ok? My husband said...sure. I looked at my husband like he was crazy but the damage was done. Just what I wanted to do. Listen to crashing dishes, ice being thrown into a bucket, orders being input inches from my head, etc. We ordered our meals. I asked for eggs Benedict with medium poached eggs because I don't like overly runny yolks. My husband got eggs and bacon. We also got coffee cake because it's great here. My husband's meal was served to him and I waited about five minutes more for mine. I was served two overly fried eggs on my Benedict instead of poached eggs cooked medium. I looked at my husband and he said...are those fried eggs? Yep. He flagged our server down and he asked if I wanted new eggs. I didn't understand what he meant. He asked again. Do you want new eggs? My husband said yes. I took a few bites of my hash browns. They were not cooked all the way and tasted of grease. Old grease. The coffee cake was great. The server brought a small bowl over to me with two poached eggs in it. No hollandaise sauce. WTH am I supposed to do with that? Scrape the hollandaise off the other eggs? At this point my mouth was just hanging open. I was so flabbergasted. This is what he meant. He was getting me two new eggs instead of having the dish remade. My husband asked a guy at the pass (I think he's another owner) if we could have some hollandaise sauce since I was just given two poached eggs in a small bowl. I took the other eggs off and dumped them on my husband's partially empty plate as he was done eating. I started eating my breakfast and was tasting something burnt. The English muffins were partially burnt. At this point I just wanted to leave. I ate the eggs and ham. My husband gave me a piece of his bacon and it was burnt. I handed it back to him. All of this to say that, as we were sitting at the counter we had a great view of the cooks. They churned out impressive amounts of food at breakneck speed. Perhaps they should slow down just a bit and make sure they are serving quality food instead of just getting it out as fast as possible. Also, since the owners were at the pass often they should be able to look at hash browns being served that are barely browned. I get that they are often busy but quality food should mean something.
