This is a locals, old school diner. The servers still use a pad of paper and pen to take your order. Service is always friendly. They serve up a classic breakfast, executed to perfection, and still have a lot of unique things you can order if you want to spice it up for breakfast or lunch. Don't forget to take a peek at the daily specials written on the wall. Coffee is delicious and refills come around consistently. I love the country stuffed hash browns. Their sourdough toast is perfectly toasted, yet drenched in butter. It's mind boggling how that buttery toast is still crispy! I LOVE IT! My daughter placed her order herself and asked the server if her pancake could be Minnie Mouse instead of Mickey. Server said yes, and low and behold, the cooks did her a solid and used whip cream to make Minnie's hair bow. My daughter was delighted! Sometimes it's the small things like a server acknowledging your kid and the cooks going out of their way to make their customers smile. That stuff is not lost on me. But the best part about Start Fresh is their FRESH PIE!! We have taken home 4 whole pies and each flavor has been stellar. Pies made from scratch, made with fresh fruits and real ingredients. Everyone was super friendly and helpful on a busy Sunday morning. The country stuffed hashbrowns were excellent and were more than enough to fill me up. My husbands scramble was smaller than other places so he was disappointed with that. We got a slice of banana cream pie to take home based off of the servers opinion when asked, and it did not disappoint. I was very impressed with the quality of food here. My guy had a spinach scrambled and loved it. I had the Belgian waffle that had strawberries banana and blueberries. Fluffy and perfect. It didn't even need syrup! The plus is there's a patio that accepts doggies! The menu is huge. We will definitely be back. The service was spot on. read more

I'm sad I am just now finding this place. Def a gem- this lil cafe has all the best options from homemade biscuits, to cinnamon rolls to pies! Me and my company only ordered breakfast but the lunch options on the menu sounded just as delicious as the breakfast options. I had to try the stuffed hash browns and it did not disappoint! We all also tried their biscuits- mine came w gravy and we were in consensus that the biscuits were super good. The coffee was tasty and the servers were great with filling the coffee every few minutes. Food came out really quickly and the ambiance was very homey. Stopped by this place while on a road trip with a POF date. She wanted breakfast. I already had breakfast. So we went here. Because her relative recommended it. Since Honey Bunches of Oats is ny absolute favorite cold cereal, I was shocked to see Honey Bunches of Oats French Toast. Omg I ordered that with the quickness. I forgot what she ordered. But it contained some nice fluffy pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. As you can see from the pics, I ate everything, except for most of the bananas. Well, I was full already . She didn't eat her scrambled eggs. Because she doesn't like scrambled eggs. Not sure why she ordered them that way. Parking lot parking was available on short notice. So we were able to swoop in a decent working space. Waiter was attentive and nice. I don't know how much it was. Because I didn't pay for it. Everything was ok. But the flies . Maybe it was the weather or whatever. But we had to fan away flies from our food and we were inside. They weren't on our food. They were just flying around us. read more

A good morning when you start your day at this local breakfast spot. This is my third visit and haven't been disappointed. I truly enjoy this establishment for the home vibe to the bloody Mary's. No alcohol today but I highly recommend their drinks. Today I enjoyed a Denver omelette with hash browns. By far the best in town, large portions, and very fluffy. We dined here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Around 9am there was a 5 minute wait to seat indoors but the staffs are very accommodating and seated us at a spacious booth seat. Food took a while to arrive but it was worth the wait. The portion size is big, and so are the prices. Anyhow, a good place to stop by. read more

Where has this been all my life! Moved to the area 3 years ago and have tried so many breakfast places. The first thing that stands out are they home made hash browns as in they grate potatoes at the restaurant, most places use frozen hash browns. Another thing that stood is out is their homemade salsa, any American breakfast that has salsa has learned how amazing it tastes on food. Honestly I can go on! It was busy and lots of locals. No free refills, which was a bit of a bummer, and no military discount despite being near a base where many military folks eat. A small discount could go a long way in making customers feel appreciated and more likely to leave a tip. Apologies for the food already being eaten once it hit the table I dug right in. Came for breakfast on a Tuesday morning. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The restaurant wasn't full so we were seated right away. The service was excellent. The food was served hot and fresh and tasted delicious...except for the gravy. I love biscuits and gravy but I'm very particular. The gravy at Start Fresh Cafe had a weird/off flavor. It was thick and rich and creamy like gravy should be but the flavor wasn't right. If you're not a gravy person then I highly recommend Start Fresh. The best Breakfast Cafe that I have ever enjoyed in California. Fresh vegetables prepared in the morning. Fabulous cofeee that is not bitter, not a weak blend, it is smooth but bold enough to wake a hibernating bear up. It makes Starbucks look like a Welfare case in comparison! And if you are lucky enough to be served by Johan then you will be trully pampered by one if the best servers in 5 or 6 Counties around. Exept that one girl at Hooters, but that's another story.... Ordered chicken fried steak and eggs. Hash brown was super crispy and soft inside. Love it. The chicken fried steak was tasty and well seasoned. They got my over medium eggs just right too. Went on a Sunday around lunch hr. Ive been in Oceanside for 14 yrs. Ive seen many changes. And this restaurant is outstanding. Great service & Great food. Had eggs on avocado toast. And also ordered menudo. Authentic menudo. Bone comes with every bowl. I love this place. Serves full menu all day. And everything is made in there kitchen. Fresh. I enjoyed every fork n spoonful of my avocado toast which i ended up sharing and my menudo. Which comes with all the condiments. The cafe on NEPTUNE. I use to walk to. Close. Have been coming here for breakfast since moving to Oceanside 9 years ago. Use to be mine and my husbands go to on the weekend for breakfast. Now.... not so much. Food has been luke warm to cold last two times, includes today. Yeah, the manager or whoever she is took my plate back but HAD to come back and justify WHY the food was cold! I ordered the avocado toast so she tells me that the eggs are on top of the avocado and the avocado was cold. I told her the hash browns were luke warm/cold as well. Food was redone and was better. Young kid who was our server was pretty much non existent. Never really checked on us, took order, dropped off order and never saw him again. Came by once to the table to ask how things were, told him better since food was redone. He had no idea. He wasn't the one that even took my plate when i was looking around to get some service, another server noticed my looking around. He wasn't the one who asked if we needed anything else and if we were ready for the check, again... non existent, someone else gave us our check. If you've been here for breakfast, you know who Rob is. Rob is the only good thing about this place... and he doesn't even serve or cook the food! I don't think we'll be back.
