First time in Don's in all the years I have lived in North County. Went late morning during the week. I don't have the guts nor patience to try it on a weekend day. Parking: Atrocious. I think there are 8 spots total including Handicap. Park on the street and walk a couple hundred feet or yards. Easy enough. Service: Sat at the counter. Super fast service from beginning to end. No complaints although the server did not check on me after the food arrived. Food: Ordered "Make your own" egg white Omelette with mixed vegetables. Hash browns and sausage patties and a biscuit. The omelette was massive and very good. Not salty at all and piping hot. The hash browns are the true star of the show. Crispy outside and soft inside. Perfecto. The sausage patties appeared homemade but somewhat dry and bland. Not salty though:) The biscuit was the loser of the bunch. Large and fluffy and looked commercially packaged. Came with butter and honey. I grabbed some packaged Smuckers jelly to add to it to make it taste better. Wish Don's offered homemade biscuits and jam. Drink. Bottomless hot drip coffee with packaged flavored creamers. Bill: They charge 3.5% for credit card transactions. Businesses in SD need to stop this BS practice. Give it up. Wow this was my first eating here and it was 10/10. It is very busy and it probably has a lot to do with today being a holiday Juneteenth. So we got there at a great time before the line got really long. The servers are so nice and awesome. Soft, fluffy, and really satisfying. Country Stuffed Hash Browns ($19.95): Crispy hash browns layered and stuffed with bacon, sausage, grilled onions, cheese, and country gravy topped with two over-easy eggs. Comes with toast or a biscuit. Very filling and flavorful. Meat Lovers Omelette ($19.95): A three-egg omelette packed with bacon, ham, sausage, and cheese, served with a side of home fries or hash browns and toast or a biscuit. If I lived closer to this spot I would be coming here all the time because their brunch is so good! I have not been here in a couple of years now but I will be back sooner for sure or have it be our treat of a brunch spot on the weekends or a day off. I am a hashbrown lover, I truly wish I could figure out how to make restaurant or diner quality hash browns at home and I have never been able to figure out how to make them as good. Anyways they have loaded hash browns here which are 2 big pieces of hashbrowns with ingredients in between, I did the Bea's stuffed hash browns this time which includes hollandaise on top of the eggs. It's no secret I absolutely love Dons, and you should too. Every friend we have it town- Dons is a must visit. Four of us came on our latest visit, in the weekend downpour. My first visit to this restaurant for brunch last weekend. We had a party of 6 so we had to wait 40 minutes to be seated on a Saturday morning for brunch. There is indoor and outdoor seating, we were seated inside. We had a great server (I didn't catch his name), but he was very attentive and professional. Inside was nice, nothing too special to me, just a standard restaurant. I don't like the small parking lot/limited parking situation. We had to park down the road and walk awhile to get to the restaurant, so heads up on the poor parking situation. The food was amazing! They have a huge menu with a lot of cool items, a hot White Russian?! I've never seen that before, it was so good though! I highly recommend it; if this is your thing. I really liked my son's big omelette, it had cheese, avocado and bacon and it was a huge portion. My hazelnut latte with oat milk was super good too. The portions here are consistent and very large, everyone I sat with had a huge plate of food and we all prefer different menu items. We ordered to-go and it was good even though the food got cold so I bet it's even better when it's piping hot! The to go containers were paper, and after 20 minutes they felt flimsy. So I don't think the food can survive any longer than 30 minutes before melting through the box. Loved the food though, and it didn't make us feel heavy or bloated after. Don's was suggested by an acquaintance I spotted while walking South Oside who advised us to go here instead of Beach Break since the crowds there were out of control. We are glad that we made this choice. It's a very cozy place whose outdoor eating is very relaxing due to their setup of being in a covered tent. They also offer special Friday fish options which score a lot of points for us as practicing Catholics. We ended up getting omelettes and the food was hot and served to us in under 10 minutes. The parking here is not ideal, as it's a very small lot and you're left to deal with typical Coast Highway traffic and summertime Zonies. Also, our table was not fully wiped down by the host who sat us, but he seemed to be trying to manage the crowd first versus other priorities. Hopefully this is just a one off experience. We arrived around 10AM for Saturday brunch and had to wait about 25 minutes to be seated for a party of three. We felt the wait was worth it though. The food items arrived quickly after we ordered and our waitress was very polite. Inside is pretty large and they have indoor and outdoor seating options. For my first visit, I chose my favorite breakfast dish, which is Eggs Benedict and decided to order their Chorizo Benedict. It honestly had some great flavors and was almost spicy but in the perfect way. I really enjoyed it and ate every bit of it and would highly recommend it. Blink and you might drive right by this place set back from the main drag. They have a few parking spots in front of the restaurant but there is plenty of free street parking all around. The place has both indoor and patio seating and, if you are smart, you will take the first table available. Be prepared to wait 30 or more minutes on the weekend for breakfast. Yes, really. The restaurant itself is homey and very casual and the food is very good. And you will not leave hungry. In fact, you will probably be taking some of your food to go. The warm cinnamon roll with icing was pretty good. I didn't love it but it was fine. I am not a French toast guy at all but the French toast here is pretty darn good. It is absolutely drenched in butter and syrup and if you don't mind getting a head start on diabetes, this dish is for you. The stuffed hash browns is an absolute monster of a dish and you get three choices: Country stuffed (gravy, bacon, sausage, etc.), Bea's with Hollandaise (and bacon, avocado and cheese), or Don's with gravy, bacon, mushrooms, spinach, cheese, and avocado. And don't forget the two fried eggs on top of each one. Seriously, call your cardiologist before ordering these I went with the Hollandaise and it was really good. There is so much going on with this dish that I don't know where to start. The combination of flavors is really good but it was the bites with bacon that really made this dish soar. The stuffed hash browns come with toast or a biscuit. The biscuit was very dry. It comes with whipped butter but man, this was a dry biscuit. For two bucks more, you can get gravy and that gravy is really delicious. Speaking of gravy...and calories...and cholesterol...the Country Benedict is pretty awesome. Sausage patties, eggs, biscuits, and a giant pool of fantastic creamy sausage gravy over everything. It's all extremely delicious. By the way, you can order half-portions of certain dishes so keep that in mind. Service was, like the restaurant, friendly and homey. Big food, big flavors, good service, and reasonable prices for the quantity and quality. You will leave as stuffed as their hash browns and as happy as their sunny side up eggs. read more

Don's Country Kitchen is located on the bustling Oceanside section of the Pacific Coast Highway and due to its excellent service and one particularly unique line of stuffed hash brown breakfast entrees, was a terrific place to grab a awesome breakfast with friends on a hazy Marine layer filled day. Our party waited well less than the initially estimated 40 minutes to be called in, but the restaurant's efficient and up-to-date virtual wait in line service gave some us ample time to grab some coffee nearby without having to worry about missing our call. Because we also had a hungry child in the party, management was awesome with providing him with crayons and coloring sheets and prioritizing his food to come out first. As for my food, it was delicious, heavy enough, and a great value for the $17.95 I paid. I got the Don's Stuffed Hash Brown and with its layers of spinach, mushrooms, and a topping of avocado sandwiched between layers of hash browns, I couldn't feel too guilty about the jack cheese and bacon mixed in with all those other ingredients. Since the stuffed hash brown was packed with so much flavor, I felt like I didn't even need to add a lot of ketchup on the top.
