A friend who lives in Carlsbad, recommended this coffee shop and so glad that we went. We came on a Saturday at 10 AM so as expected, it was quite busy. There were about 8 people in line ahead of us, but it went pretty quickly. Gave us more time to think about what we wanted :) We got an Americano with oat milk and initially only ordered the smoked salmon sandwich to split, but my husband liked it so much that I got back in line and ordered this spicy Italian. Very fresh ingredients, the focaccia bread was lovely. There's lots of outdoor and indoor seating, but it does go quick since it's so popular! Will definitely be back!
A really nice new coffee roaster and cafe in San Marcos, right across from Craft Coast. The Americano and pour over are both really nice--super smooth espresso and obviously well-curated beans. The storefront is a bit unassuming, being part of a standard business park, but the interior is really nice and clean, and reminds me of Japanese coffee shops, and even looks somewhat like Longplay HiFi in Sherman Heights. The Pancake Syrup Latte is a very popular and tasty choice if you're looking for a treat--it's creamy, the coffee is still forward, and it's a slightly sweet without being saccharin. Does it taste like pancakes? Not exactly, but it's a well-balanced treat-like drink worth trying iced on a hot day.
Loved this shop and how big it was on the inside and outside patio. Lots of bar space and small/big tables to work from with yourself or others. Outside has some shaded options and the coffee was amazing!! They definitely get some coffee rushes but line and drinks move out fast.
LOVE this spot. Tons of seating, easy parking, and every drink we got absolutely slapped. I got the almond milk matcha which was creamy, balanced, not overly sweet. My friends got the vanilla oat milk cortado and the Honey Please latte with oat milk and both were 10/10 too! The baristas are super knowledgeable and personable. Such a solid coffee shop. Definitely a go-to when i'm in the area!
Tucked and hidden gem. Parking lot available. Nice open space with good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Gets very busy, but the crowd comes in waves. Drip coffee is good. Haven't tried their lattes, they don't offer any milks that I like (whole, oat, almond, half and half only). Praeger brothers baked goods -- the croissants are amazing. Pass on the scone.
Great coffee shop in downtown Carlsbad that's easy to find, with a decently sized parking lot, so finding a spot wasn't a hassle. It was a little busy when I visited, but the wait wasn't bad at all. The employees were very friendly, and the interior is spacious with cute décor and unique wall art. The atmosphere was a bit too hectic for me personally, so I took my drink to go. I ordered the Rosemary Iced Latte and absolutely loved it. It was my first time trying rosemary in a coffee drink, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well the flavors worked together. I'd definitely come back and look forward to trying some of their other drinks.
Almost every time I'm driving down from LA to San Diego, or vice versa, I try and carve out time to pop into Steady State. I'm a bit of a coffee snob; I make my own espresso at home and have tried probably hundreds of different coffee roasters over the last few years, so third wave coffee is something I'm knowledgeable about and thoroughly enjoy. If I try a coffee shop that doesn't meet my expectations, I have no problems not returning, but with Steady State, they knock it out of the park and deliver consistent, tasty coffee each time. The staff are always really nice and prompt, and there's ample seating, too. Pop in, you'll love it way more than your typical chain!
PSL ftw! It's been a hot min since I've visited Steady State. Everyone has caught onto its deliciousness, so it's thankfully doubled in size and seating. The PSL extra hot is truly craveable and so delicious. It's perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and that lil sprinkle of salt really takes it over the edge.
Steady State is still my favorite for a dirty chai. Their chai is spicy and uber flavorful. This is no longer the small shop it once was and it's great to see they've expanded into the next building. The service has always been great, there's still plenty of seating inside, out, and around. Space Traveler is by far a classic roast, so we make sure and buy a bag each visit.
Steady State is one of those spots that doesn't need hype because the coffee does all the talking. We tried one of their single-varietal pour-overs, and it was so fresh, clean, and balanced with subtle fruit notes that we literally went back a second time. This time for a single origin espresso and it was just as excellent. The space itself is large and airy, perfect for lingering without feeling rushed. You can tell the drinks are made with real care and intention. I also took home a bag of their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, and I'm happy to report it brewed just as beautifully at home as it did in-store.

There are cute places to sip your coffee or tea outside but we chose to sit inside. The storefront has all the tools you'll need to craft your own coffee at home, to be your own barista, if you wish. Scales, kettles, beans, cups, mugs, a beautiful spoon to use in topping your espresso with foamy milk, and so much more! Salmon shmear breakfast sandwich- beautifully balanced with tangy pickled red onions, crunchy crisp cucumbers, caper shmear all on a fresh Prager Bros focaccia bread. Oh my Lord! I had to share this sandwich with my friend who was the birthday girl. If it were any other day it would have been all mine! The baristas were super friendly and helpful. I ordered an iced americano and my friend an iced vanilla latte with almond milk. The baristas and staff had a well oiled process with plenty of workers to keep up with the busyness of a Saturday morning. Can't wait till I can make my way back to Steady Street.
The atmosphere of this place was very peaceful. I enjoyed my time inside waiting for my coffee. I ordered a latte (hot) and my husband ordered a flat white. The espresso in my latte was very nutty and complimented the milk nicely. They provide single origin, so that's a big win! Our drinks were crafted quickly and with care.
My friend and I were walking around Carlsbad Village and stopped by Steady State Roasting for a quick matcha fix. There was a long line that morning, but it moved pretty quickly. The space is huge with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I loved the relaxed morning atmosphere with the smell of fresh coffee and people chatting without it feeling too loud or crowded. We both ordered matcha lattes, and the matcha was really good quality. Service was quick, and it was the perfect little start to our day. I'd definitely come back to try more from their menu! read more

Steady State is one of the best coffee shops in SD/north county. I rarely visit the same coffee shop multiple times a year but I will always visit Steady State on my drives up to LA. I actually look forward to the long drive because that will allow me to enjoy their wonderful PSL - pancake syrup latte. The interior is so warm and inviting. The bar is a large square in the middle of the coffee shop so you can chat with the baristas and the whole coffee shop has such an open, bright concept with beautiful murals on the wall. Everyone is so kind and I always leave in a better mood. There are goodies and cute merch for sale and when you walk up to the ordering counter, you can see their food menu and delicious pastries. I often get the ham and swiss (?) croissant. I always order the PSL hot and it comes sprinkled with colorful salt on top, which balances out the sweetness of the syrup perfectly. It is truly a healing drink that I think everyone should experience. read more

Not a big coffee person, but I can appreciate a good cold brew. The Cold Fashioned has the perfect balance (in my humble opinion) of bitterness and acidity from the orange-- very refreshing and citrussy! read more

Beautiful store inside, great spacing with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. A wide selection of merch, including stickers which has been a new hobby of mine. I ordered the Breakfast Boi sandwich, and it was insanely delicious and a beautiful cross section. My latte was great, very refreshing and smooth. I loved the ceramic mugs they gave for eating here, it's such an elegant and elevated touch when coffee shops go the extra mile to provide ceramic or glass mugs (I've always said non plastic cups make the coffee tastes better lol) service was patient, friendly, and that's for all the staff here. Everyone smiled and was more than happy to meet my requests for sweetener, forks and knives and any other questions I had. This is a must visit! How I can pay $10 for a cup of coffee and still write a 5-star review behooves me. I should be stripped of my privilege just for that regard. As someone who considers himself relatively cost-conscious, I swallowed hard when paying $10 for an anaerobic coffee pourover, but you still get 5-stars: why? It reignited my senses for fine coffee and I bought some beans (at a slightly less egregious price of $26) to take home and brew at home. Anaerobic coffee is a process where the coffee cherries are deprived of oxygen and fermented creating some real nice flavors. This was all I tried here, but I'll be back for the food. The vibe of the place was great too and there was so much open space to work and the wifi seemed to work well, despite seemingly everyone on their laptop. read more

The coffee shop has a pleasant aesthetic look. Plenty of seating both inside and outside. Nice large parking lot. We arrived around 11am on a Sunday and the line wasn't too long. We ordered a latte, a matcha latte with oat milk, and a chocolate croissant. Milk texture and temperature were right on point for both drinks! Nice strong coffee flavor in the latte. My husband thought the latte was a tiny bit runny/watery (if that makes sense) but I thought it was fine. I'm not an oat milk drinker, but I enjoyed the flavor of the oat milk. The tiny downside is that the oat milk kinda overpowers the matcha flavor. It was a nice smooth drink. We also ordered a chocolate croissant and it was good too. I was happily surprised to find this coffee shop and will definitely go back and even get coffee beans there. read more

Was looking for a quick pick me up on a Sunday afternoon after lunch in Carlsbad and found Steady State Roasting. They do craft coffee and can be found in a sleepy business business plaza. Honey Please - I went with this latte, which was done proper with the local honey giving it just enough personality and natural sweetness to it. Well balanced, served at at good temperature, it was a lovely sipper. The honey twang really made the drink. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the sell store branded t-shirts and other coffee related items inside. Worth checking out if you are in the area and need some coffee! read more

This was such a good coffee shop. The coffee, pastries, and service were great. I went with a friend, and both our coffees and items were delicious! They had ample seating both inside and outside. The only suggestion I would make is having a better system for the dishes. Steady state is so good! My favorite coffee is the PSL (pancake syrup latte) it's made with maple syrup and the best part about this latte to me at least is the salt/cinnamon sprinkle they put on the top of the latte. I recommend this coffee drink to all my friends read more

My boyfriend and I tried Steady State for the first time. He got a small iced latte and I got a flat white with their single origin espresso from Colombia. I could not get over the unique and fruity, yet clean taste of the espresso. My partner's brother said he'd never tasted anything like it. I was a tiny bit shocked by the additional $5 for the SOE The milk was steamed with care and was deliciously smooth. We bought a bag of coffee to bring back to our place! I cannot wait to try it. read more

Service was great. Helpful. The Pumpkin syrup latte, what they are known for, were good. The oatmeal cookies was really good. They could. Not heat up the ham and cheese croissants we ordered. But they were good just like that. The vibe was totally chill here. read more

Great coffee place to stop by in Oceanside! We came on a Saturday morning around 830am and it was already super packed - waited around 10 minutes in line and lots of people were seated inside. Service is really warm and friendly. We ordered the honey latte with oat milk and it had a delicious honey flavor. There's a lot of tables and seats available for getting some work done although gets pretty crowded so would come early if you plan to work/study here. read more

I stopped by this spot before a Saturday morning meeting and it was just the right kind of busy--enough of a line to show it's popular, but still easy to find a table to sit and relax. I got the almond croissant, which was a solid 10/10, and the latte was really good too. It's a perfect place to study or get some work done, with plenty of outdoor seating available. Love coming here on a Saturday morning. I really appreciate the consistency in the quality of their beverages. All of the baristas are highly skilled. There's usually a long line on weekends, but it moves pretty quickly and it's definitely worth the wait. The inside is pretty big and it's not hard to find a spot to get hangout with friends or get some work done. All of the drinks are amazing, you can't go wrong with anything. read more
Wow just utterly spectacular specialty coffees and vibes. I can see myself coming back here a lot whenever I'm in town Pancake spiced latte: GETTT!! Such a perfectly warming and spiced latte! It had a great balance of creamy, salty, and sweetness. I'm actually so glad it's not seasonal and I'm going to definitely be coming back for this Matcha: Get This was also delicious and with a smooth earthyness to it that was very pleasant.
