I was birding early in the morning at San Elijo Lagoon so afterwards, I was ready to eat some breakfast so stopped in here. I ordered a 12oz hot left coast latte (which has caramel) and substituted oat milk. This latte was excellent and very much enjoyed it. I also ordered a vegan jalapeño everything galette. Initially, I thought it was a bialy and was really hoping it was one but a galette worked also. It was tasty but was just a tad underwarmed and needed maybe one more minute in the toaster. They have clean bathrooms here too, if you need to use the loo. They have nice seating on their porch like area and also there is a courtyard too right out front facing a fountain. A great place to grab a cup of joe and a snack! They also sent me a $5 off coupon after I visited, so I'll definitely come back for sure! Quick stop on a Saturday afternoon. Place was hopping. Perfect location for all the foot traffic along this area. The music was playing. The behind the counter staff was bustling. Hopped in line for a quick order of the daily brew and my friend got the dark chocolate mocha. Both very tasty. You can sit in one of the 2 tables inside it step out and snag a nearby table or bench. When I was in Encinitas I stopped by here for a coffee. The coffee was very good --- strong, black, rich is the way I like it, especially when I'm doing a long drive. There's a nice and large outdoor area to sit, which is very chilled. There isn't the buzz that you get in many coffee shops -- a sort of little community. The woman behind the counter was efficient in serving me the coffee. It's a nice coffee shop and if I'm in the area I'll try it again. read more

Tucked right off the main street, this spot has a super cozy feel. There are only a couple of indoor tables, but tons of outdoor seating, making it a great place to study or work. This is a great lil coffee spot with a large menu and some delicious food as well! I enjoyed the left coast latte which screams salted caramel. It was the perfect size and just the right amount of sweetness to it. I had also orders the sausage sunrise sandwich with no cheese and it was PERFECT! They give you a packet of tapitio which complements it well. It's like the perfect breakfast Sammy that's healthier than the McDonald's egg McMuffin. When I walked inside the shop was very quiet and my order was already waiting for me. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There was several tables to sit at and there was also outside seating as well. It sits at the end of the Encinitas strip so it's quieter and easier to get parking as well. I've always been a fan of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, and this location is well-situated in Encinitas' downtown Lumberyard. Replacing a long-standing Starbucks location, the space has been remade to reflect both the ethos and the look of a local favorite. And like other BRC's, the coffee is very good. The beans scream well-sourced product, competently roasted, and expertly prepared espresso drinks. Although this branch is perhaps a touch less romantic than their original shop in La Jolla, it still gives off this local business' vibes. It does lose a few points, however, for cost. BRC's product has always run a bit higher than other cafes and this is true here as well. And it raises a very serious question: is the extra cost worth it? That of course is up to each patron, but for me the answer is no. When I think of the embarrassingly large number of cafes in the area that serve up excellent caffeinated beverages, I think I would prefer to go to those spots instead. Don't get me wrong--I am perfectly happy to go BRC. But if I have a choice, there are two or three other spots within a ten minute walk that produce similar espressos about 15% cheaper. Beautiful summer day in paradise and needed some liquid refreshment. Ordered a watermelon fresca sparkling tea and wife had a Honey B latte along with some lil dippers. Was very busy since it was the morning, but didn't have to wait to the point of frustration. The fresca was refreshing while feeling healthier than a soda. The lil dippers were ordered by a lot of people that morning and definitely helped stave off hunger. The star was the latte which my wife would totally get again. Their coffee may be good but if you're looking to get a matcha unfortunately this is not the spot for that. You will get a matcha that tastes like the preference of milk you chose with a tint of green from the matcha. You will absolutely not taste the matcha or sweetener of choice unfortunately. We love Bird Rock Coffee Roasters and usually go to the Bird Rock or Little Italy locations, but while visiting friends in Encinitas, we decided to check out this location. It is located in a very cute outdoor shopping mall, which has lots of parking spots and is very walkable. My husband and I each got the mocha and chai, respectively, and we were not disappointed. The service is great. Definitely recommend spending some time around the area, you can walk up and down the main drag and there are lots of fun clothing and home furnishing shops. read more

2.5 stars, rounded down. When I stopped in, I'd already had a latte from Camp Coffee (which uses Bird Rock beans!), so I opted for a matcha latte while here. I don't like alternative milks, and while oat milk (yuck!) was listed on the menu, I was able to switch to real milk. The drink was perfectly frothy, but not bitter enough for me. I LOVE matcha to be grassy and earthy, and this place makes theirs too mild and sweet. Service was "just okay" and a bit rushed. I wish they would label which lids go with which cups, or put them on themselves. My girl friend touched a lid she thought would fit her cup, but it was too small. Not wanting to waste, I tried to use said lid for my smaller cup and alas, it didn't fit. The person putting drinks on the counter did not help when he saw me struggling until I asked what the black lids were for... shots he said. Um, thanks... after we touched everything. Overall, I probably wouldn't stop back in as I didn't even like the Bird Rock in the Carlsbad area (see my 1 star review there; where they accused me of trying to get a drink for free). The beans are really good though (Monkey Bite is my current favorite!) so I will continue to purchase those... from Camp. The service is pretty average. When my friend and I first started getting our mocha lattess at bird rock we really enjoyed them and the vibe was quite pleasant. But after a few months of going there regularly the lattes got to be bad tasting, and it really sucked. Gave them extra chances but it lost the great taste. I love my coffee strong and this place delivers! I ordered an Iced Vanilla Bean Latte and it was delicious. The coffee flavor was perfect - I'm not big on super sweet coffee. The person who helped us was okay, it was our first time there so we were looking for a bit more guidance. I wasn't super impressed with the baked goods selection so I didn't end up getting any. It was a little more on the expensive side but that's to be expected in Encinitas. I have watched them grow over the years and expand all over SD, boy am I glad because now it is so much more convenient to get quality coffee and my favorite vegan pastries!!! Their guava passion fruit orange doughnut is one of the best I have ever had and worth the trip alone! The lemon poppy seed muffin is delicious as well! I just tried this location for the first time and they are quick efficient and offer amazing friendly service and vibes. Well staffed for quick service. Their iced horchata latte and vanilla bean hot or cold is my personal top favorite. Friends in the past have loved their house made dirty chai and spiced mocha. I highly recommend Bird Rock Coffee particularly this location!
