This Achilles Coffee is tucked smack dab in the middle of a health-centric mall surrounded by wellness centers, nutritional experts, and yoga studios. The decent sized parking lot is typically busy but has a good churn throughout the day. There's street parking too and the commuter rail nearby for those looking for a light walk. With seating outside on both the ground level and up on the roof, it's a perfect spot to soak in some sun, breathe in the ocean air, and have a sip and a bite in this quiet part of town. The menu here is comprehensive with coffee (espresso, pour overs, cold brew), teas, specialty drinks, as well as breakfast and light bites to pair with a good start to the morning. We primarily came for a coffee run but a few of our team members decided to visit for breakfast the following day and from what I've heard, they're solid with the food! I look forward to coming back to give their bites a try. In theme for Saint Patrick's Day, they had a few special drinks but I opted for a traditional flat white this time. They had milk options but as a traditionalist, I went with whole milk. The coffee had great flavor and balance. The richness was bold and rounded out after every sip. I was tempted to grab a couple bags on my way out but seeing they had free shipping for online orders over $40 (about two bags), I decided to save some luggage space and order some when I was back home. The staff were friendly and efficient. I was impressed how many of them they were able to fit behind the small work area but they were experienced and worked collectively as a team. The drinks were prepared quick and for those liking them hot, you will be pleased with the freshness of that first sip. Overall, Achilles Coffee is a perfect small batch roaster to visit while you're in San Diego to get a great cup of coffee, a breakfast to go with it, and some bags of single origin or blend to bring back home for your own brew. And if you're interested in trying them out before you visit or just looking to restock, consider checking out their website and order from there. They even have a sampler to try their in-season batches. I guess their only Achilles' heel is that there aren't more of them but with five spots all across San Diego county, at least a San Diegan (or visitor) can get a taste of the sweet nectar marketed under this Greek warrior's moniker. read more

Great spot for a quick bite and coffee. Met a colleague here before a day of training. This place stayed consistently busy and plenty of parking. Also, dog friendly as well. The staff was friendly and efficient. Our order was correctly made and delicious. There are limited spots to sit. Heads up, the restroom is in a separate place within the complex (not accessible bc so many people needed to use it). read more

Stopped in for breakfast and was blown away by the Solano Beach Bagel sandwich, honestly the best bagel sanwich ever! It features ham, egg, havarti, avocado and aioli in a mouth-watering combo. Seriously, the sandwich was better then the over-priced Ethiopian drip coffee. The coffees take a while to come out and the flavor was a bit bitter rather than rich in my opinion. This is a great coffee shop to stop by for a quick bite! There is plenty of seating outside & on the roof of the shop. The server was kind enough to answer questions & give us yummy recommendations. * Park Blvd Smoothie - 7/10 (you can taste the freshness of the fruits & veggies in this smoothie. however, the flavor is very light & lacking the sweetness from the fruits inside. i feel like i only tasted the greens in the drink) * The Cove - 8/10 (the salmon was very fresh & had a yummy smoked flavor. the pickled onion & capers added a nice acidity to the salmon in addition to the lemon. the bagel itself had a nice crunch, but it was slightly over toasted. overall, a solid lox bagel) * Banker's Hill - 7.8/10 (the fig jam was very delicious & added a nice sweetness. the egg & bacon were cooked well & came out hot, but i would prefer if the spinach was cooked with the eggs. the pretzel bun was a bit hard for my liking, as i would've preferred a brioche bun instead. a yummy breakfast sandwich nonetheless) read more

small but busy Achilles. I usually go to the east village location but we tried this one before our long walk to Encinitas. I had the vanilla cinnamon latte and one of the avocado toast with heirloom tomatoes. Those tomatoes were fresh! Super good fuel before a 5 mile walk. Not much bathrooms on the area so make sure you scope out before or ask if you can use a bathroom before you actually have to go. Plan it out. read more

My kids feasted on the açaí bowl and smoothie (which tasted extraordinarily fresh). The cafe is mostly outdoors - great for kids - and they loved the pond next to the shop. Matcha fan here. They have options for something more sweet with lavender, strawberry, taro, and other syrups. They have all the milks (yes soy too) and you can get it unsweetened. Little hit like set up in a plaza. There is parking and a few tables outside to sit down. There isn't much room to stand inside and no inside seating. Good experience. Walked my pup to Achilles this morning and had a delicious iced tea made by a very nice young man who also gave my pup a biscuit. They had a lot of interesting tea options, I opted for an Arnold Palmer made with agave and it was really tasty. I've come here at least 5 times and it never fails me! The coffee is great- but what I really like is their food. My favorites are: 1. Mt. Laguna Sandwhich 2. Coronado Sandwhich sub garlic aioli for chipotle aioli 3. Beacons salad The only time I was disappointed was with their breakfast burrito-- i'm not a big fan of it. Cute small coffee shop. Has wifi, decent setting in front of the shop. There is a sign saying there are additional seating upstairs. On lot parking is limited, there are additional parking on the street before turning in. The Broadway smoothie size is generous. Has a very strong taste of peanut butter. But still refreshing. Good food and coffee. Seating is limited and there's no shade except for umbrellas. Some people camp out at the tables with shade umbrellas to use the WiFi with their computers, so it's hit or miss with regard to comfort. read more

$7.00 Small Hot Vanilla Latte with Oat Milk - for a small size $7 vanilla latte (basic) is kind of expensive, but I think they charge extra for non dairy milk. My first time having hot oat milk and I think oat milk is better cold. I like that this latte wasn't burn your mouth hot and the latte art was very cute. The lady working today was very thorough in asking my preferences. And she listed out the long list of different milks they have. They ask you your name and will call your name when the coffee is ready. The area where you pick a lid, coffee holder, etc is clean and organized. Good spot for a coffee! 13APR2024 @ around 1030AM. My girlfriend and I were driving up the coast for some R&R time. I noticed the signed and wanted to try it. We stopped in and were greeted by Austin(cashier) and Lorenzo(barista). We didn't know what we wanted so my girlfriend asked "what's your favorite/go to drink?" My girlfriend got a cappuccino and I got the "Finest City" cold brew w/ 2 extra shots of expresso. Both drinks were delicious, we were not disappointed! The drinks were made to order and we got our drinks fairly quickly. The ambiance of the establishment itself is actually pretty nice for its size. It's really in the middle of a parking lot! Nice outdoor coffee breakfast stand. I ordered a beautiful, fresh pour over coffee latté and a jalapeño pepper bagel with avocado. Customer service was friendly and helpful with Austin. Unfortunately, I drove away before checking my bagel, which had PEANUT BUTTER and not avocado as I had asked, so always check your order before leaving. I'm wondering if they thought it was a strange order, a jalapeño bagel with peanut butter. I'm so disappointed. I feel like calling and asking for a refund. An avocado and jalapeño pepper bagel would've been amazing for my long drive back to Riverside. Will I be back? Yes, for their fresh pou over coffee only; if I happen to be in this area ever again. I stopped in for breakfast. I am familiar with Achilles given I have been a patron sine they first open their doors here in San Diego. I even remember the coffee cart. I had the breakfast burrito with bacon. It was a tasty burrito and I appreciated them offering the spinach tortilla, but unfortunately they forgot several or there was a lack of ingredients in the burrito. For example, there was barley any white cheddar, if any at all, and no tomatoes and onions in the burrito. I really wanted those tomatoes and onions. Honestly, I could not find the cheese at all. In addition, the "breakfast" burrito needed more scrambled eggs in it. More eggs and less potatoes here would be a good thing. The burrito cost $12. Service was friendly.
