Came here kind of late on a Saturday, but they still snagged us for brunch. I would say food is actually 5/5! I think they were understaffed unfortunately. The ambiance is chic, but some of the areas needed a carpet and upholstery cleaning. Would come back for a less busy day :)
My friends visiting SD recommended we try this cute restaurant for brunch. Making a reservation was easy and we were able to opt for outdoor seating. We were pleased to see the wide selection of savory and sweet options on the menu, and our server was so nice and accommodating as he went over the menu with us. I came with a group of savory breakfast enjoyers. We ordered the southern fried chicken benny, short rib benny, smoked brisket hash, breakfast sammy, and the Skinny Jane (my order since I was attempting to be healthy). I got the Skinny Jane with scrambled eggs, sausage, and fruit. So delicious and filling! My friends thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we had no leftovers at all. It sounds like Toasted gets mixed reviews, but I liked it and recommend others try it out for themselves!
This might be the most difficult review I've written to date because it was a love/hate experience. What's to love: the wait staff, the drinks (alcoholic), some food. What didn't work: the chicken and waffles, the churros. The menu which is extensive is one you'd have to sample to discern what's good and what's not. The chicken and waffles should be called "chicken strips and waffles." The chicken was over dredged and very dry. The waffles were very grainy (crystallized sugar texture). Not good. The churros were non traditional. Nothing fluffy, cinnamon flavor about them. Felt like they came out of a frozen box and reheated. Bad. I ordered the breakfast quesadillas and that was a 10/10. Back to my point about ordering a few things and finding what you like. Would I go back? Yes. But I'd know what NOT to order. I think my rating would go up as I try menu items that were enjoyable.
Just your average brunch. Nothing special but nothing bad. Staff are nice and ambiance is nice too.
I am so disappointed- this is probably one of the worst if not the worst reviews I have ever written. I remember when Sammy's opened in this exact spot over 30 years ago. It was consistently good. Our family had celebrations there and we all had our favorite dishes. When the restaurant was converted to Toasted I had her so reviews that made me not rush over. Today I finally went with my family - 5 of us - 3 generations. Our visit started with the restaurant being understaffed. So it took us a little while to be seated but not terrible. We were seated inside towards the back of the restaurant against the glass. The back area had 2 very large groups next to us. The wall that used to be up separating the screws is not longer there. Makes sense for an open concept but removed the noise dampener. That plus the removed window covers made it very difficult to carry on a conversation. Our table had no napkins or silverware A drink spilled and no one was around to get up a towel either. The restaurant is missing the love and upkeep it needs. I won't go into detail but it is need a lot of little things fixed. The food - why we were there! The chopped chicken salad and the balsamic chicken salad were both on the menu. The balsamic chicken salad was reminiscent of the Sammy's salad we know and loved. The chopped chicken salad- the flavor was there but maybe a 1/3 of the size of the salad we used to split between 2 people. No sun-dried tomatoes in the restaurant to add to the salad and the dressing consistency was very thick (not how we remember it). The Eggs Benedict with fried chicken was enjoyed but they cornmeal did not hold up to the chicken. It needed a biscuit or something more sturdy. The worst meal was the Happy Meal. We should call it the not so happy meal. For $20 there is Champagne (really Prosecco), a smoked salmon and bread dip, burger and fries. The burger bun was over cooked and almost black on the bottom. The burger was over cooked. One of my sons kept saying that can't be Wagyu beef. It tastes off. I looked up for assistance mid meal and the entire staff was gone. Maybe a meeting in the kitchen. Eventually they all returned at the same time. It gets worse. While we were there on a Thursday afternoon for lunch, we don't recall anyone coming in after us. Almost every table that had left inside and out had dirty dishes on them. . The staff started clearing tables as we were departing. Just before leaving we stopped in the restroom. It was filthy. I am not sure what was on the floor. Men's room had no towels. Soap dispensers had soap all over them. The drain cover looked like it had not be scrubbed in months if not longer. We will not be going back anytime soon. So disappointed in a Sammy Ladeki restaurant. I expected more.
Visited Toasted in Del Mar on a Thursday morning around 10:30 AM. When we arrived, there was no one at the host stand, and we waited about 10 minutes to be seated. We quickly noticed there was only one server on the floor and the manager was actively taking orders, serving tables, and helping wherever needed. It seemed like they were likely short-staffed today. Despite that, this place absolutely delivered. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish. The food was delicious, well-seasoned, and clearly prepared with care. The drinks, which were made by our server, were excellent and never felt rushed despite how busy things were. What stood out most was the attentiveness. Even while juggling multiple responsibilities and running around to take care of everyone, our server consistently checked in on us, made sure our food and drinks were to our liking, and provided excellent recommendations. Yes, there was a bit of a wait to get seated, but the positive attitude, professionalism, and genuine hospitality from both the server and manager more than made up for it. They turned what could have been a frustrating experience into a great one. And one final recommendation: get the Lobster Scramble. You won't regret it.
My friends and I had a large party reservation and all of our food arrived pretty quickly! Interior is bright and well lit and feels very cheerful. I've come here a few times now and tried something new both times and I feel like you can't go wrong with whatever you pick! Love the truffle potatoes and the good thing is it comes with all bennys!
Came in on a Tuesday for a late breakfast and the place was pretty calm at first, although a large ladies group came in shortly after we were seated. There were only two servers working, and our server ended up taking care of the big party along with several other tables. Even while being super busy, he stayed friendly, attentive, and kept a smile on his face the entire time. Seriously great service. Wish I could remember his name because he deserves a shoutout. The food was amazing, and the Messy Sundae was definitely worth trying. Everything came out fresh and tasted great. Overall, such a great experience and I'd definitely come back again.
TOASTED @ DEL MAR Huge shoutout to our incredible server, Alicia. she truly made the experience a 10/10 and easily deserving of five stars! This spot is located on the second floor at Del Mar Highlands, right above the Haitian and poke spots, and next to The Melt. Parking is super convenient since the plaza has a large, free lot, so finding a spot wasn't an issue at all. My boyfriend and I made a 12:30 PM reservation through Yelp a couple of days in advance. When we first arrived, the initial interaction with another staff member wasn't the warmest, we were briefly brushed off and asked to wait but we were seated just a couple minutes after our reservation time. We ended up sitting inside, although they do offer outdoor seating as well. It was closed during our visit due to the cloudy weather, but it looked like a nice option on a sunnier day. One thing that stood out right away was how extensive the menu is, there are so many options to choose from, which made it exciting but also a little hard to decide. I ordered the smoked salmon toast (about $20), which came with jalapeño cream cheese, capers, and a hard-boiled egg. My boyfriend got the short rib braised bread with eggs and a side of potatoes (around $27), and we also shared the chicken and pancakes. Alicia took great care of us throughout the meal, she was attentive, friendly, and really elevated the entire experience. As for the food, it was overall very good with a few small critiques. The salmon toast had amazing flavors, the smoked salmon was super fresh, and the jalapeño cream cheese added a great kick but the bread was a bit too thick and not toasted, which made it feel a little underwhelming. My boyfriend's dish was delicious as well, especially the perfectly cooked poached egg, flavorful hollandaise sauce, and the potatoes (which were actually my favorite part). I just wish the bread there had a bit more texture from being toasted too. The chicken and pancakes were also solid, the pancake was incredibly fluffy, but I do wish there were a few more chicken tenders included since the portion felt a little light. Overall, it was a great experience. Between the quality of the food and Alicia's amazing service (she even surprised us with mimosa shots for my boyfriend's birthday!), I would definitely come back and highly recommend checking this place out.
Came here before seeing an early movie at Cinepolis theaters, which is right next door. The restaurant put a lot of thought and effort into the design! It really feels like an upscale cafe! They were fairly busy for a mid week morning, but we got sat right away. Our server was very friendly. They have a big menu with a lot of brunch and lunch options! I had the green eggs, and they were good. I especially liked the whole grain toast because it was thick slices and good quality bread. I could definitely see myself coming back.
Overall a nice brunch place. This Toasted is located in the Del Mar Highlands complex right across from Panini Grill and next to Cinepolis. The decor is cute and modern, great for a casual or dress up meal. They offer both indoor and covered patio seating. Although the restaurant is pretty large, they were quite busy so reservations are highly recommended. The menu is expansive and includes a lot of options from breakfast plates to salads to sandwiches to pancakes. Most entrees were $20 and above. All our food was fresh and tasty but there was an issue with them putting cheese on my kid's burger when I requested no cheese. The runner came back a few minutes later clearly with the same burger with the cheese only partially scrapped off. I notified our server who was very apologetic and had the chef make a whole new order but just beware especially for those who have food allergies. The service was also slow but it was busy with only a few servers. I do appreciate our server and the host were both friendly and welcoming.
Got seated immediately on a Saturday 10 am! Quick service and delicous food :) It was really hard to hear people talk though since it was so loud inside. Easy parking! Short rib benny: 4.5/5. Overall a really yummy dish, but there was a slight sour taste that came from the short rib marinade (maybe it was just the sourdough?). The thick tomato slice was seasoned really well! The truffle potato balls were nothing like I've had before, crispy and so soft on the inside with a truffle taste that isn't overbearing at all. It was a little too salty though for my personal taste. But OVERALL love love love! Will be returning!
After our experience with Toasted Gastropub in Oceanside, we decided to try this Toasted Gastropub in Del Mar for breakfast when family visited. It has since become a frequent breakfast and lunch spot when we have company. Egg dishes, burgers, and avocado toast are big hits. The restaurant has both indoor and patio dining on the Del Mar Highlands Center upper level with west-facing views. Service here has varied from good to very good. Del Mar Highlands offers plenty of parking.

Absolutely loved it here. From the moment we entered I knew it would be a good time. First of all, the customer service at this place is top-notch, from the host to the server, they didn't drop the ball once. Let's get to the driiiinks, so delicious! My friend had the Bloody Mary and said it was one of the top-tasting ones she had had, and she is a Bloody Mary connoisseur. The mimosa flight was just enough to get the good The seats were so comfy and even though this place is in a shopping center, you wouldn't be able to tell from the decor. Just an overall, fun and great place! read more

Had a really nice brunch here at this restaurant in Del Mar heights. We were greeted by our server and we sat in a cute and comfortable booth. I almost opted for the nice covered patio outside. It was not very busy and that made for a nice weekday lunch. Michael took great care of us and tended to all of our needs. I got the hot chai latte and shrimp and grits that comes with eggs made to your liking. A gluten free meal. I also got a small OJ. Took half my meal home because with the two drinks, and having a little something before even coming there, I was getting full. I enjoyed it later at home. We've been to another location and this one was kept way cleaner in comparison. Looking forward to a return visit sooner than later. They are under the same umbrella as Sammy's So don't forget to join the rewards program that they offer. You know me I'm a sucker for a great deal! read more

As usual, Toasted Del Mar gets the fundamentals right. The atmosphere and ambience are excellent, the waitstaff is professional and personable, and the kitchen is consistently quick and efficient. This is a place I've visited several times, and normally I leave extremely impressed. Unfortunately, this visit was slightly different. We ordered the Crispy Chicken & Waffles and the Classic French Omelet. Everything was cooked properly and presented well, but both dishes were surprisingly bland. There simply wasn't enough seasoning or flavor to make either dish particularly memorable. For a restaurant that usually delivers much more, this felt unusually flat. I was also surprised by the portion sizes. I've previously been very happy with the generous portions at Toasted, but both of these dishes felt noticeably smaller than expected. To be clear, nothing was poorly cooked. The problem was execution from a flavor and value perspective. When you have good ingredients and everything is technically cooked correctly, but the finished plate still tastes under-seasoned and leaves you wanting more, something has been missed. This was easily our least impressive visit to Toasted. Every other time has been excellent, so I'm inclined to chalk this one up to these particular menu items rather than the restaurant as a whole. read more

Came here for a birthday breakfast with family. We had the chicken Benedict, the good old Benedict, and the pancake combo. Each one was delicious and savory and a good amount of food. According to my grandfather, the birthday boy, they were the best pancakes he has ever had. The service was PHENOMENAL. Michael was our server and we will specifically ask for him when we return. He was considerate, kind, efficient, and actually cared about our experience. They apparently do mimosas Monday through Friday for buy one get your second free. They also do unlimited mimosas for 25 dollars. Super easy parking as it's in the big shopping center. It's right by the cinema on the second floor (by the escalator!). This place is adorable inside. Retro and cute. Plenty of seating inside and out. read more
Toasted is always the best place to go for brunch. Friendly staff & very accommodating. Our server, Alicia, was extremely friendly, thoughtful and had such a lovely attitude and patient. Especially with our elderly father in the mix. She made us feel so welcome. Now let's talk about the food!! I absolutely loved everything I've had here. This time I decided to try the Green Eggs. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend ordering a side of Parmesan potatoes. And if you get a chance, get the Eggs in Purgatory, best take on shakshuka I've ever had! read more

Update on my review: I was reached out to about my experience and was provided a complimentary card to come back. This is a honest review! Menu is a bit overpriced for the quality of food in my opinion, you can easily find a more authentic breakfast/brunch in the area but there are some fun plates. -Tried the Red velvet pancake- no volume flat pancake but the flavor was there. 2.5/5 -Plain Jane - equivalent to all American. Sausage was a bit tough/overcooked. 3/5 no butter or jam provided for toast - plating could be better if the tomato is there to give an upscale feel lol. -Elvis French toast good dish no issues 5/5 -Mimosa flight - not worth the price not sure what champagne they use but bubbles were flat in 2 of the 4 servings. Could have held out on this 2/5 Now the service here is slow. Would not recommend. Took forever to get sat by the hostess who asks to give her "one minute" 3x. Constantly seen guests having to wait at the front to be greeted. Our server was wonderful but he was not able to keep up with all of his tables. Did not even get his name. He had a scramble of tables which is not his fault. Had to wave down the manager to close out our table who also wasn't very hospitable. Anywho, good name but the Oceanside location has better/consistent reviews. You can get a better brunch,with a better view and better hospitality elsewhere in Del Mar for the same price. read more
We had brunch here today for a birthday! The service was great! The restaurant was clean and we sat in the outside area which was nice the weather was perfect. Food was good and mimosa flight too. I really appreciated how they celebrated the birthday with a big glass full of ice cream fun!! read more

My friends and I celebrated International Women's Day today by having brunch. The restaurant has an inviting entrance and was nicely decorated inside. We were seated on the covered outdoor patio. With the warm weather an soft breeze, it was perfect. One of my friends and I ordered the smoked salmon toast while the other 2 opted for the stuffed French toast. All 4 of us were very pleased with our food. Normally I'm not a huge fan of smoked salmon because it can be overly salty, but I really liked how it wasn't salty here. The capers added the right amount of salt to the dish. I really loved the pickled red onions, which brightened up the plate with a little acid and tartness. It came with jalapeño cream cheese, although I couldn't remotely detect any level of heat. I liked the addition of hard boiled eggs for added protein. I had a few bites of the stuffed French toast and thought it was really good. I don't think I could eat an entire plate of it though. It hit the sweet craving. Loved the generous serving of mixed berries, but I would've preferred them fresh on the side instead of being drenched in the sweet caramel sauce. It's good in moderation. Had brunch with our daughters at this Toasted after they ran the Mermaid Marathon. Having moved from Atlanta to San Diego in 1995, I was craving a little Southern breakfast and I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Benny, comprised with "crispy chicken * cheddar cornbread * garlic spinach * béchamel * scallions * poached eggs" It is absolutely the driest most flavorless "southern" breakfast I have ever had. The Cheddar cornbread was so dry and hard it would not suprise me if it had been left over from several days ago - it was flavorless, dry as cardboard, and lacked flavor. The "Southern Chicken" was the driest chicken I have ever eaten and even with the béchamel, remained tough to the bite and lacked flavor and texture, . . .well, the texture was "dry as wood." I will share that the poached eggs were perfectly cooked - medium and the egg yolk flowed as it should, perfectly poached. And those potato balls - heaven. But I didn't come to Toasted for the potato balls. I struggle to understand how/why this was served. SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED and DISAPPOINTING!! read more
Great for brunch! Very busy place for brunch but food is great. We had the multigrain avocado toast with egg and Cali benny. Both tasted great and we love the potatoes that the Cali Benny came with. Tasted like truffle fries. Lots of options to choose from in their menu and even though it's a busy place they get your food to you good time. Great view from the restaurant too. Would be great for any brunch occasion to celebrate all things! read more
Came here for a friends birthday on a weekend, he made a reservation in advance for a party of 8+. I thought this was a vibey brunch spot for a birthday. Inside was very modern and outside had a nice patio view. All menu options sounded absolutely delicious and we all had a hard time figuring out what to pick. I went ahead and got the french toast that came with eggs and bacon. I thought it was pretty good, definitely hit the spot. I had a weird feeling about those potato balls but they were crunchy and addicting to eat. I would recommend getting these. Owner Karen interacted with us and talked about the different drink options to order for our friends birthday. Only downside is that the service was a bit slow, our food all came out at different times which was quite annoying because we were waiting a while to eat. read more

Let's just say I was pretty disappointed with my experience here. When we arrived, we were greeted by a hostess and given the option of indoor seating or their covered outdoor patio. There were plenty of open tables, and an employee quickly cleaned one off for us outside. The restaurant itself was cute and clean. Our server was very friendly and offered several recommendations. He brought our drinks promptly, and we placed our order shortly after. I ordered the: *Lobster Scramble: this was recommended by our server. Unfortunately, it was a major letdown, especially for the price ($34). While the lobster had good flavor, there were only a few small pieces throughout the dish. The eggs were way overcooked and lacked the soft, fluffy texture you'd expect from scrambled eggs. The toast arrived cold, and I even had to ask for butter, which seemed odd since it wasn't provided automatically. The highlight of the plate was definitely the potatoes. They had a unique texture and flavor that almost reminded me of mashed potatoes in potato form. They were easily the best thing I ate. My friend ordered the French toast and described it as just okay and nothing memorable. Honestly, I wish I had gone with the chicken fried steak, which was what I originally wanted. Based on the recommendation, I chose the Lobster Scramble instead, and I definitely regret it. I would not recommend that dish. Overall, the service was great and the restaurant was clean and charming. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best and significantly overpriced. Paying $34 for a few pieces of lobster mixed into overcooked scrambled eggs just isn't worth it. You can get a full lobster roll in La Jolla for about the same price. Cute place, excellent service, but the food didn't justify the cost and wasn't enjoyable. I wouldn't return. read more
My friends and I came here for brunch and were given the option of indoor or outdoor seating. We chose outdoor and were immediately seated. The space has cute decor with a mix of regular chairs and couch-style seating, which was a nice touch. Service was friendly. My friend and I shared the Avocado Shareable and fries. There was a small mix-up at first. They brought out the Avocado Toast instead of the Avocado Shareable but they handled it well by letting us keep the toast and quickly bringing out the correct dish. The fries were my favorite. They were well-seasoned and slightly crispy on the outside. The Avocado Shareable came with a delicious vinaigrette that paired nicely with the crispy wontons. read more

I've been to Toasted twice, and both times the tables have filled up pretty quickly. The first time that I checked it out, I tried the Short Rib Benedict ($22). I like how the bread was grilled sourdough, and it was an overall hearty dish. The benedict came with these fried round parmesan truffle potatoes, and I really enjoyed those. The grilled tomato was good too, but I wish that they gave more slices. The second time I went to Toasted, I got the BLT sandwich ($18). I liked the brioche bread as it added a bit of sweetness, and how balanced the ingredients were overall. The fries were crispy. However, my bread was a bit burnt. The staff seemed a bit spread thin both times, since they took a while to take and make our order. Overall, the food is still good but just expect a wait. read more
First time. Likely not last. Nice layout. Airy and casual atmosphere. Server came quick and food followed quick as well. We weren't rushed which made for a comfortable visit with my niece. Rating is more close to 4.25 stars because of the good military discount offered. This would be a great place to go with a bunch of friends. My dish was the Short Rib Benny. It was good but hard to beat my first ever Short Rib Benny back in Hawaii (not same restaurant). This one is made with pickled onions so the vinegar tartness takes on the flavor a little more than desired. The eggs were perfect! I will have to try the other Benedict on the menu for comparison. Their breakfast burrito is humongous, and worth the $20 as you could make two meals out of it. The green salsa and labneh cream makes for a delicious flavor combo on top. Service was quick and efficient, and the outdoor seating area is very nice and spacious. I've eaten there a few times, both dining in and taking out, and the food has been consistently good. For a sweet option, I'd recommend the stuffed French toast with the passion fruit Carmel. The Carmel has a unique taste that compliments the toast! read more

Toasted Del Mar is a trendy brunch spot with a great upstairs location and a solid menu that makes it perfect for a laid-back weekend meal. Pros: This place is located on the second floor in the Del Mar Highlands area, which gives it a really nice, slightly tucked-away feel. The vibe is super cute and perfect for brunch whether you sit inside or outside, it's a great atmosphere. We went on a cloudy day, so they had covers over the outdoor patio which made it really comfortable still. The menu has a really good variety of breakfast and brunch options. I got the short rib toast, my girlfriend ordered the smoked salmon toast, and we also shared chicken tenders and pancakes. Everything tasted really good, and I liked that there were a lot of options including mimosas, wine, and beer if you want to make it more of a brunch vibe. Portions were solid overall and definitely filling. Also, huge shoutout to our server Alicia she was amazing the entire time and made the experience even better. Super attentive and friendly, which always makes a difference. Parking here is also a huge plus. The lot is big, free, and really easy to navigate. Even when it gets busy, you can still find a spot without too much trouble. Cons: The only thing I would say is I wish there was a little more chicken on the pancakes, but that's a pretty small complaint overall. Also, since it's a popular brunch spot, it can get pretty busy depending on the time you go. Verdict: This is a great go-to brunch spot in Del Mar with good food, great service, and a really nice atmosphere. I would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a solid brunch option in the area! read more
As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with very friendly and courteous staff. Ambiance is inviting and the restaurant is decorated nicely with indoor and outdoor seating. We went on a Sunday past 8am and thankfully it wasn't crowded yet - however, it picked up right around 9am. We got seated right away and asked for our drink order. Menu has ample of options. I had the classic eggs benedict and my husband ordered the smoked brisket hash - both were excellent! Portions are just perfect. We also shared the coffeecake pancakes and I would recommend these - not overly sweet, they were just right for our taste. I look forward to come back to Toasted and try some other menu items. They have so many that sound good, so I would try to order something different next time. read more

So we saw the ad that this place was rated THE no. 1 brunch in San Diego so of course, we had to check it out! We had the breakfast burrito (with barbacoa) and it was massive. My husband can usually tackle one of them without issue so having to leave behind some because he was so full was very surprising! Nonetheless, hands down the most amazing burrito! I had the classic Benny and that hollandaise sauce was incredible. Service was also amazing, we had the awesome Nathan who was attentive, funny, and genuine. He definitely gets five stars!!! Visited Toasted in Del Mar on 8/18 for another's birthday breakfast. We were seated quickly and the staff was friendly and attentive. Seating and setting were very comfortable. I ordered the Short Rib Benny ($22)--grilled sourdough, braised short rib, poached eggs, pickled onions, and harissa hollandaise. Flavors were spot-on and the textures worked well. My only nit: a few bites of the short rib were a little cool, likely from reheating given how extensive the menu is. Still very tasty overall. Service and pacing were great, and the whole experience was easy and pleasant. I'd come back and I'd order one of the Bennys again but might ask for a little extra heat on it. read more
