Went for breakfast with some friends. It was really cute inside and everyone was very nice. The coffee was really good and so was the breakfast sandwich. It had everything you want in it. Overall, everything was great!
It's a cute place, especially the patio area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good but not amazing. The stuffed French Toast wasn't quite the right ratio. It was more like a sandwich, rather than filling. The omelet was good but a little watery and the broccoli was not soft enough. The scone was a bit dry but had great flavor. The matcha was excellent.
We had a good brunch with good service. They have a nice outdoor patio. Patio is dog friendly too.

Antojito/La Jolla Benedicts: Maybe? We got a mix and match and they were good but nothing to rave about tbh. The La Jolla one was a good default and just adds a couple of ingredients over a regular bene. Stuffed french toast: Get If you have a sweet tooth then this a great way to start off the day. Fluffy ooegy gooey buttery goodness to wash away all those guilty pleasures lol. Parking can be a little tricky nearby on the busy weekends but circle around a couple blocks away and you'll find something. Food: 6/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 7/10 Value: 6/10
Chilaquiles lacked flavor of any sort at all. Extremely disappointing. French toast was basic and fine. The ranch and fries were the only thing I genuinely enjoyed and even then my fries came out lukewarm at best. Serving a "mule" in a copper mug without straws was not it. The copper taste just made it unbearable to drink along with the lack of flavor and the fact that it tasted just flat (versus super sparkling like a regular mule...I would think not having real vodka in this should not impact bubbliness unless the soju killed the bubbles in the ginger beer?) We understand we came on a Sunday and who expected busyness but I think it was just worse than we were anticipating. Our server was nice no doubt but we'd asked for things, like lemons, and never received them and even asked a busser and never got them from either. If food is outstanding, I can usually look past service flaws but the fact that both were subpar really left me not wanting to ever come back.
Favorite breakfast in La Jolla! So yummy staff is nice , service is great. Stop by it's delicious!!
When visiting my family and I chose this spot due to convenance. Staff were super helpful and nice! Our server was amazing! The food was mid, I think there was no seasoning on the food but the stuffed mascarpone French toast made up for it 100% We subbed the compote for fresh fruit, the kids French toast was huge. Drinks were also good, we enjoyed the different variety. The place itself is so warm and welcoming!
Pretty fast service and food is always very good! The only downside was that our server didn't get our waters so we didn't have water until we got the food and asked someone else for it. I really do love the location since it's right in downtown La Jolla and overall a great place to spot by!

We waited about 30 minutes to be seated outside. Got their Eggs La Jolla Benedict which was a unique tasting benedict with their balsamic mushrooms and roasted tomatoes on top. The balsamic gave the benedict a unique taste that I can't really describe, almost reminded me of a pizza. The potatoes weren't too crispy but good enough. What made the breakfast special was we all split their stuffed french toast! It was so fluffy and their strawberry compete hit the spot with a sweet touch. I could have finished all three of them but it was too much food, I was stuffed. Will definitely come back!
Came here with the family while on vacation. Very family friendly, and the food was incredible. I had the Avocado Smash (toast) with smoke salmon. The bread was amazing, as was everything else. Everyone loved their food. I also had the Green Devotion drink, which tasted... very healthy. Wouldn't get that again, but not sure if it's possible to make somethign that healthy taste good :)
My Partner Loved the SMOOTHIE and the FRENCH TOAST!!! We went to THE COTTAGE in La Jolla, for Breakfast/Brunch. We had never been there before, had usually we go to HARRY's Coffee Shop. We found it very nice. We found the food to be an upgrade from the other restaurant. We were DISAPPOINTED that they didn't have a DISABILITY RAMP!!! It has such a storied history in La Jolla, that we were surprised by such an OBVIOUS AND GLARING OVERSiGHT!!! SETTING THAT ASIDE, the food and service were great. It all started with the Host out front, who took my name and phone number. When I inquired about our time, he remembered my name. Such a display of TRUE SKILL. We were seated soon thereafter, inside. As stated, there were the stairs. HE the host HELPED!!! We had looked at the menu before entering, to pick what we wanted ahead of time. I chose the Morning Glory Sandwich @ $22.00, with FRENCH FRIES AS A SUBSTITUTION. AND, Diet Coke. As for GONZALO, he chose the Antojito Benedict @ $23.00. AND, the Vita Berry Smoothie @ $12.00. FOR FUN, we shared a HALF ORDER of the Stuffed French Toast @ $11.00. (FYI Normally, sweet things bother my Partner, BUT HE LOVED THE SMOOTHIE AND THE FRENCH TOAST.) I would say thatTHE COTTAGE is a little more expensive than HARRY's COFFEE SHOP.
Very laid back breakfast spot on the corner. Thank goodness for outdoor seating with kids. The lemon ricotta pancakes were highlighted in previous reviews so we had to order it and it didn't disappoint. I would say my brioche French toast was even better than the pancakes. It was also plenty as I couldn't finish it. Prices are consistent with other brunch establishments around and service was attentive.
Great spot that has a lively atmosphere with fast and efficient service. Went for breakfast and had the oatmeal with nuts, fresh fruit. Tasty with other good healthy options.
Zero complaints. Great all American breakfast, fast & attentive customer service, floor managers are always there for back up hands so that's nice to see. Consistent food for a decent price. Originally went across to Sugar & Scribe and had a horrible 15 mins of no service and no accommodation by their manager, WAY better decision coming here. Try their Del Mar location as well. read more

Brunch is something we take seriously, especially when in La Jolla. We went to the Cottage to have this brunch experience, which I would say was full of great vibes and good service. The food was just okay in my opinion. My friends got different entrees, so I will just talk about what I got: - Pork belly benedict - the eggs benedict were good, but the pork belly was tough and hard to chew through, not as tender as I expected. I will say, the meal overall was pretty flavorful and the cottage potatoes and hollandaise sauce saved it a little I'd try something else if I came back to visit, since the rest of their menu looks promising! Parking is rough around this area as there are a lot of other popular brunch spots, so you might want to get here early on weekends; we went on a weekday at lunch so parking wasn't too hard to find. read more

This place is so busy on the weekends. We had our name down 2 different weekends and ended up going to Sugar & Scribe to eat faster but we came in a Monday morning and got seated at The Cottage right away. If you can avoid the weekend rush, do it! For FOOD, we got: *Roasted vegetable scramble - 5/5 review, perfectly sized veggies, had a large sugar topped scone and a small cup of homemade strawberry jam (delicious) and potatoes were nicely seasoned *Southern California omelette 4/5- my husband thought it was good besides the 1 large piece of bacon wrapped in the omelette. He would have given it a better rating if the bacon was in little pieces, making it easier to eat in the omelette. *Stuffed French toast - 4/5 - the photos we saw made it look like it was stuffed with some sort of cream but it's actually stuffed with strawberries. DRINKS: Iced matcha with almond milk - nothing special, I wouldn't recommend. The server was informative that the matcha was pre-made with sweetener but it still didn't take how I expected. Coffee- they kept my husbands cup full and even left the canteen of coffee. Very nice! For parking, it's street parking only and we were lucky to have gotten a spot down the street. Vibes were beachy but the outside decor could have been spruced up a bit compared to Sugar & Scribe. Overall, I'm glad we finally checked it out. I would say it has some stiff competition with Sugar & Scribe on the sweet dishes but for the savory dishes, I really enjoyed my roasted veggie omelette. read more

We are on a holiday in Southern California and went to this spot for a late lunch and boy was it good. The ambiance was quaint and the service was awesome. Food: - Wagyu Burger and Fries: My 10 year old got this and it was so good he said. He finished it. - Cinamon swirl pancakes: My 16 year old had this and I tried it and it was SOOOO GOOD. I couldn't eat it as I don't like sugary brunch food but it was so tasty and he loved it. - Pastrami: My wife and I shared it and we had it with the garden salad. The balsamic vinaigrette they have is so tasty. I'll go here again. read more

The service was quick, very welcoming and engaging! We arrived mid morning on a Friday and waited about 10/15 minutes for a table. There is indoor and outdoor seating where there are umbrellas for shade if you choose outside. The food was fresh and arrived in a timely manner. The ambiance is casual. A La Jolla classic! My wife grew up in San Diego and has been coming here for over 30 years! Jason, the owner, is incredibly friendly and goes out his way to make a great dining experience. He's been there for over 20 years and does an amazing job running the restaurant!!! We went on a Monday around noon and it was crowded, but our wait time was 10-15 minutes. Service was incredible. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was 10/10. Toasted but soft marbled rye, a generous amount of meat, coleslaw... my mouth waters just thinking about it! My wife had a vegan hash (she loved it), kids had burgers (they were huge), and my grandmother in law had a Milanese sandwich (massive and great). It's a little tight on space and the interior is dated, but that doesn't detract from the experience. You can also dine outside on the massive front patio. I highly recommend making a visit if you need a casual brunch in the La Jolla area! read more

Got seated right away on a Sunday at 10:30am. We sat outside. The coffee was essentially bottomless which is great. I loved my green juice. Lemon ricotta pancakes were so delicious. I hit the classic American and I wish there was more fruit, but the scone made up for everything. read more
Came here for Saturday brunch with two friends and had such a good experience! The wait was about 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad and gave us some time to just hang out and enjoy the morning. I ordered the Mexican Mocha and the Eggs La Jolla Benedict. The mocha was perfect with the right balance of chocolate and coffee. Not too sweet, just really smooth and comforting. The benedict was exactly the kind of savory breakfast I was craving. It didn't feel heavy at all. The balsamic mushrooms, spinach, roasted tomato, and poached egg all worked together so well, and the potatoes on the side were seasoned really nicely. My friend devoured the Morning Glory Sandwich within minutes and my other friend really enjoyed her Antojito Benedict. Service was friendly, the food came out hot, and the whole atmosphere was really relaxed. I definitely plan on coming back here to try their sweeter brunch dishes! read more

Giving 5 stars alone for the wait time since we were seated in under 10 minutes on a Saturday without needing a reservation like many other popular brunch spots. As soon as we were seated and greeted, we placed our orders and within a few minutes our drinks arrived. My husband did order a refill on his coffee, but he did not receive one until we asked again at the status of it towards the end of our meal. Our server was very kind and offered a refill in a to-go cup which we happily accepted. He really did enjoy his Mexican mochas! I had an iced matcha and honestly was so happy with it. Great matcha! Our food came out pretty quickly as well and i absolutely loved my avocado smash on rosemary bread. I had the cucumber, olive, onion, tomato, feta, and oregano version and I did add a fried egg on top. Everything was fresh and the flavors just melded together wonderfully. I could really tell the tomatoes and avocado were fresh. The rosemary bread was a great addition of flavor to the bunch. My husband enjoyed his Southern CA Omelette too. I was lucky to try any. I think the best part was the amount of fresh guac in the omelette. Overall we had a delicious meal, with attentive and kind service. We were sat outside and their umbrellas provided the perfect amount of shade. With the ocean breeze, it's pleasant to sit on the patio! read more

It had been years since my last visit to The Cottage, but on a gorgeous, impromptu morning, we decided to follow our appetites and return. Weekday brunch worked in our favor parking was just a block away, and there was no wait, a welcome change from the usual crowds. The staff greeted us promptly and seated us on the patio, where the setting felt as charming as I remembered. I'm typically an eggs Benedict loyalist, but this time I was in the mood to explore more of the menu. We ordered the pastrami sandwich and the French dip, both generously stacked and visually promising. Unfortunately, while the portions impressed, the flavors didn't quite deliver. The pastrami felt like it was missing a key note something bright and tangy to balance it. I ended up adding dill pickles at home, which helped, but not enough to make it memorable. The French dip had a similar issue; the au jus leaned more toward a thick sauce rather than the lighter, savory broth you hope to dip into. The side salad was fresh, the fries perfectly crisp both enjoyable but they couldn't quite make up for the lack of depth in the sandwiches themselves. Next time, I'll stick with what they're known for and return to the breakfast classics. I'm not giving up on The Cottage just yet it simply deserves another chance, with a different order. read more
From the front to the back, service was great. There can be a bit of a hassle with parking, but overall not too bad. We were here for brunch on a Monday, and it was busy. The wait was about 20-30 minutes. The setup is nice, you can choose to dine indoors or outdoors. The outdoor seating is nicely shaded, so you can dine comfortably. The food is presented nicely. This restaurant was very very busy. There were already a lot of reviews and while I was in San Diego, I knew I had to try it. The weight staff was very friendly and attentive, even though it was very busy. All food items on the menu looked fantastic. I decided to get the Mexican style salad with prime rib. It was good, but I wish I would've ordered the Milanese chicken sandwich instead like my sister did. That was fire literally 10 out of 10 on the menu. It's listed as employee favorite. Okay, I already want to plan my next visit here. I can't really tell you whether everyone else's dishes were as amazing as mine because I spent the majority of our morning just gobbling up my own meal. I loved every single flavor in it. It was AMAZING!!!!!! The scone it came with wasn't my favorite, but I guess I'm just not a huge scone girl... I would 100% go back and order that same little hash over and over again. Awesome brunch place in La Jolla village. We heard rave reviews while looking up brunch places for our weekend getaway to San Diego. We were concerned that there was no reservation system. Luckily, we made it around 11 AM on Friday and were seated within a few minutes. The service was impeccable, truly. Gave us helpful suggestions among the various Benedicts and Omelettes. I loved the Mexican Mocha and Stuffed French Toast (3 French toasts stuffed with strawberries and custard) that we shared. For main entree, I went for the Crab and Proscuitto Benedict. The combination was enjoyable, top quality. The outdoor seating vibe was similar to other Pacific coastal downtown such as Carmel. read more

We're from two hours away and are in san deigo for the weekend, i'll just say i'd make the drive for the food and service itself. The restaurant is very open, colorful, and VERY clean. Our server was Alonzo and I haven't had service like that in so long. So attentive and caring but patient in everything he did, the busser as well i didn't get his name but they were both more than amazing. As for the food WOW, so tasteful yet you don't feel heavy and uncomfortable after. Just everything was so perfect, thank you to Alonzo, the busser, and the cottage for an amazing birthday breakfast!!!! We will be back. read more
One of my favorite places so when it came to my birthday it was my choice for brunch. At 12:50 on a Sunday it was waiting room only. Yuma (hope I have her name right) was an excellent snd engaging hostess. She took great care of my folks and provided tremendous respect. Both mom and dad and was thrilled that not only did everyone find something but everyone enjoyed their order. That's a rarity. Dad devoured half his pastrami sandwich and we had to fight him for a fair share on the cinnamon roll. Mom really took her time and enjoyed her omelet. I had the special which was ok. The best way to top off the meal was the lemon cheese cake - OMG!! Even mom stopped water her omelet to get her fair share! The service from the waiters was incredible, the host kept walking away and had a long line waiting to get their names on the list for a table. When the host came back she seated a woman that just arrived and skipped over the long line of people that have been waiting for a seat for over an hour. I had the vegan hash and it was tasty, filling, and had a nice mix of ingredients. The Just Egg omelet was very eggy and there's a delicious homemade chipotle salsa that's offered at every table. I'm happy there are vegan options. I love their quaint charming outdoor seating. Service was also great. read more
