Big Breakfast 2 (French Toast) **split

Stopped by Kono's Cafe again! It's honestly one of those local gem spots that serves that classic California beach breakfast. Places like this never go out of style here in SoCal. Prices are super reasonable for PB too especially for the BIG portions! We got the French toast breakfast special, Big Breakfast #2 (split). It's a classic breakfast, simple, perfectly cooked, and the right amount of flavor all around. Service is always warm and welcoming with a smile at the counter even with the crowd they tent to get. Not to mention the patio seating is a huge bonus! nothing beats eating outside with that beach breeze. A classic loved local spot. I'll always be back.

The fat fries are also great.

This is a walk up on the beach and it's worth the wait. The food was delicious and hearty. Breakfast burrito (avocado and bacon) and French toast are legitimate delicious. The service is next level friendly. The gentleman taking our order was super relaxed. Did everything in his power to give us exactly what we wanted. And the view there overlooking the water is gorgeous. I don't give five stars unless a place is exceptional and they get the nod.

Nice atmosphere and seating by the beach. You wait in line and order at the counter, but then they deliver to you. Food came out quickly. Prices were good. The coffee was also really good. The food quality wasn't anything special, typical diner food, but you come here for the view.

Nothing beats breakfast with a view. Straightforward menu, great corner location, friendly welcoming staff and decent pricing. Saw this place on my search for breakfast with a view and based on the line I chose the right place. Quaint seating inside, patio out back and just across the way is a patio with a view of the best waves. I ordered French toast, bacon and hot chocolate. First bite felt like Saturday morning with the family; and the paper plate not only practical but nostaligc. French toast was sweet bacon crispy and but chocolate was creamy. I could sit there all day and watch the waves.

I ordered the #5 burrito and the service was very friendly. The line moves fast and you'll order at the counter. They didn't ask if our meal would be for there or to go, though the staff were super friendly & bagged it for us when we received the order. I felt the flavor was lacking compared to other breakfast burritos I've had. It was mostly scrambled egg inside. I was also expecting pico in the burrito but it actually comes on the side. Some tables inside. It's a cute beach cafe.

Mission Beach Boardwalk to Pacific Beach when in San Diego, CA, be sure to stop at Kono's Cafe for breakfast or a latte

If you're ever doing the Mission Beach Boardwalk to Pacific Beach when in San Diego, CA, be sure to stop at Kono's Cafe for breakfast or a latte. Kono's has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is across from the restaurant with ocean views. You can also walk to the beach from Kono's Cafe deck. We started our workout about 10am and the weather was at 78 degrees so nice this time of year. We ordered the breakfast burrito #3 with bacon, potatoes , eggs and cheese and the Big Breakfast #2 with French toast, eggs, bacon, potatoes etc. I rate the food 4.5/5 stars. Check it out when in the area! Happy Yelping :)

Love!! Food is delicious and fresh. You get so much food just so perfect. The location and options in seating is perfect. Service has always been quick and friendly. Perfect for breakfast on the beach. My fav is their french toast.

This place is more like a 4.5 out of 5 stars. this place is definitely worth your time and money! We ended up getting a breakfast burrito and a breakfast plate. the burrito was really good and filling. the breakfast plate came with eggs, pancakes, bacon, muffin and some cheese potatoes. Also very good and filling. Both items were decently priced. There are three places to sit: inside the actual restaurant, outside adjacent watching people walking on the side walk, and third is kinda hidden away over looking the ocean.... honestly this was the best, how could you beat a nice breakfast burrito and ocean views? The only down side is the parking, not a lot of public parking. if i'm back in san diego, i'm 100% coming back.

So when did Konos start using powdered eggs? They used to use actual eggs for scrambled, now they just add water. I'm disappointed. And to pay $15.00 for them!?! Come on, Konos!!

Their food is so yummy and affordable! The waiters are quick to serve the food and I love their beach patio view!

I tried to get in for three days and every day the line was out the door. Well I got lucky Tues am. No line. So after my walk I had the pleasure of eating here! Food: the food is great. The breakfast burrito was simply amazing! Made fresh and was delicious! The customer service is great! The people that work here are very nice! Quick great top notch service! I like how close it's to the beach. Great fresh air in the open air restaurant. So glad that I stopped in! Easy five star review and worth the wait if you come and there is a line.

Brah, the vibes are immaculate. Slide thru kono's if you're craving tasty grindz + wanna feast with an epic view. Not only is the food actually good, it is also reasonably priced and you get to eat right next to PB.

    Raw potatoes. Not cool.

All HYPE. Not worth the wait at all. Food is bland. Had better at DENNYS. Most of my Potatoes were RAW. Bacon was good. And that bathroom why. Very nasty about the same time use the restroom.. Not worth the time. I should of just went to DENNYS.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!
