Mission Rosemary
Iliana M.

Such a good find for breakfast! The food was delicious and had unique tastes that you don't get from just any breakfast place. Our server was so sweet and recommended the cinnamon french toast and mission rosemary, which we ended up ordering, and it did not disappoint! The french toast wasn't too sweet, it was the perfect amount, and so delicious too. The rosemary bread was the highlight for me, with the whole dish being a perfect breakfast! They also have a coffee stand inside with a variety of different drinks & some pastries too. Came on a Sunday during brunch time and got very lucky with parking and no wait! There seems to be a good amount of seating for both small and large parties. There's also art on the wall for sale which is a cute little touch! Will be coming back to try more on the menu!

Wait staff is very kind and straight to the point. Went on Mother's day and was only a 10 minute wait. it is a smaller, more cozy spot that seemed to have lots of locals, nice ambiance. Our waiter said they are known for their french toast and their rosemary potatoes. We ordered a variety of dishes (cinnamon french toast, mission breakfast, chilaquiles, abc and chorizo omelet, and steak & eggs) , and while the cinnamon french toast was indeed delicious, everything else was lacking any flavor. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy or finish our meal and did not feel like we needed to take it to go. The reviews are very different from our experience so maybe we just came on an off day. Maybe mother's day weekend affected the quality we received. Hope to try it again if we are in town soon!

Busy, friendly, the Mission is a breakfast spot where the staff is dialed in and the energy is good. Which is why this one hurts. I'm loyal to moist, fluffy well seasoned scrambled eggs with a silky finish. What landed on my plate here? Dry, loaf-like eggs. My friend's omelet didn't fare better. The eggs were dry, overcooked. The twist: everything else was excellent. The rosemary potatoes were both moist and crisp, the thick-cut rosemary toast (very Texas toast like) was good, and the cinnamon toast was decadent. The housemade chicken breakfast sausage was delicious. Coffee and expresso drinks were not as strong as I like, but still solid. I wanted to love The Mission. On paper, this beach breakfast stop has the look and feel that I love; extra generous plates of food arrive in the arms of extra friendly local servers, and good music plays in the background. The food comes out quickly, which I appreciate. It's just that when a breakfast spot fumbles the eggs, it's hard to overlook. Fix this detail, and The Mission would be hard to beat.

The service was good and we didn't have to wait long for a table but we all though the food was just so so. The drinks were also lacking.

Great service but the food was only mediocre. We heard it had the best breakfast in town so we had to try the out. Hostess was polite and handled customers well. Our server took our order quickly- Lemon pancakes and side of eggs for me and French toast and sausage for my partner. We also ordered iced Mexican mochas with oat milk. The pancakes were thick , the lemon was tangy but the combo wasn't great. My eggs arrived cold and had to be remade. The French toast was average. Our Mexican Mochas were made with Hershey's syrup ( not Mexican chocolate) and we think they made them with regular milk instead of oat since we both had digestive issues later. Would not recommend

Chilaquiles were so so soggy that I ate two bites and left the rest of the dish untouched

I was very excited to eat at The Mission since the line is always long and due to its location in the heart of Mission Beach, but I left extremely disappointed with a headache and starving.. Let me start by saying, I am very grateful for The Mission offering vegan options. However, the chilaquiles were so soggy I could not even eat them. I asked my boyfriend to try them just to see if maybe I was being too critical, but he agreed and actually described them as tortilla mush. I added a side of tofu, hoping it would add to the chilaquiles in place of the egg, but even that was disappointing. The tofu was teriyaki flavored with smothered with grilled mushrooms and onions. Very good with the right dish, but a terrible combination with soggy tortilla chips on a bed of black beans. I took the tofu home but left nearly the entire plate of chilaquiles untouched. Additionally, the restaurant itself was so loud that my ears hurt. I did notice The Mission also offers a vegan bowl and tamale plate. So perhaps those would be a better option for my fellow vegans!

We were staying at the Bahia Resort and walked to the Mission! Wow Stella our server was so nice, never had to ask for anything! The food is so delicious! Stella made the experience even better! Recommend the French toast! But really all the plates were good! Plenty of food to share! Coffee is great! We will be back and will ask for Stella.

Had a good experience coming to this establishment for breakfast. The location of the spot is on the corner of the street so you can't miss it at all. You have to find either parking on the street or paid parking lot. It wasn't so busy, just had to wait for a table to be cleared and clean. Our server, Omid was amazing because he had cleared the table for us and got out ordered in fairly quickly while he kept seating other parties and attending the other tables that he was already serving. Got the mission rosemary - 8/10, pancakes with chocolate chips - 8/10 and French toast - 10/10

This place never lets me down! I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived around noon on Sunday and only had to wait five minutes before getting seated. I will say parking is definitely a challenge in this area so we decided to Uber from Pacific Beach. I tried the mushroom frittata, which was recommended by our server, it was good and not as heavy as some of the other options. My boyfriend tried the loco moco which he really liked and we shared the French toast which was also really good. Service was fast and friendly and restrooms were clean.

We had such a delicious breakfast at Mission Cafe in Mission Bay! I got the ABC omelette -- that's avocado, bacon, and cheese. Packed with bacon! The rosemary potatoes were crispy and tasted healthy and delicious. I also loved the bread they use. It's nice and thick, and the same kind they use for their French toast. Speaking of their French toast... wow! So flavorful, covered in cinnamon with an amazing blueberry compote, and the syrup had such a good flavor too. My fav dish out of the two! Martin ordered the chorizo omelette and devoured the whole thing! There was nothing left on his plate lol! Evan took great care of us! Super friendly and attentive! Service was impeccable. We had everything we needed and left so happy with full bellies. It was very busy, as expected from an awesome restaurant. Music was fun and I loved the beautiful artwork on display and on sale. Definitely coming back the next time we're in Mission Bay!

Steak & Eggs

This was a breakfast and brunch spot that had an Asian Latin fusion fare going sort of. They had a number of traditional breakfast choices with a few twists along with sandwiches and other "brunchy items." It did take some time for our order to be taken, but besides that, the service was fine. I had the steak and eggs ($22). It was certified angus beef with horseradish cream, tomatoes, scallions, rosemary potatoes, grilled rosemary bread, and scrambled eggs. The steak was all chopped up, so it was a little overcooked (waiter did not ask what temperature it to be cooked at), but it worked out well combined with everything else. The eggs were not seasoned but combined with everything else, especially the horseradish cream made up for it. The rosemary potatoes and bread were good too. It really needed to be all eaten together to work. It was very filling. I also tried the turkey club, which was huge. There were thick turkey slices with just enough mayo. The rosemary bread was even better here as a sandwich. Will I go back? Yes.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!
