Had a reservation for Cocina 35 as our post half marathon meal. Needless to say, we were excited and running on an empty belly. Arrived at our reservation time and ended up needing to wait an additional 20 mins before being seated. I recognize they're busy but what's the point of a reservation? At least they were nice about it. Also was given the heads up that dining is limited to 60 mins. Def feel that's a bit annoying cause rather than feeling like I'm in for a relaxing dining experience, I'm needing to rush through my meal against a 60 min clock. Had an agua fresca, Mexican coke, and BYO chilaquiles. The food was good - especially the creamy habanero sauce. It was atypical and unique. The service was ok - staff was friendly but just lacking presence. Overall, food was really good but don't love their delays, dining limits, and quick churn customer service.

Back again!!! Decided to take a wild day trip to San Diego to take my kids to the zoo, and Cocina 35 was of course my breakfast of choice. Absolutely wonderful just like my first visit, this time I opted for a sampler plate and was not disappointed. Both times I have been in San Diego this meal lasts all day long.... The portion sizes and wild and the food is spectacular. We loved every single thing on the table and this will be my first stop every time I'm randomly in San Diego. Coffee is great, service is great, the restaurant itself if cozy and clean. And come on, mouthwash in the bathroom? Sold.

The restaurant is very pretty and has a great overall vibe. Parking is either street or paid lots, but luckily we went on a Sunday when street parking downtown was free, which made things easier. It was pretty busy, so I'm glad we made reservations that same morning--it was quick, easy, and there were plenty of time slots available. We only waited about 5 minutes to be seated. The staff was very friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I ordered the creamy chipotle chilaquiles with carnitas. They were really good, but definitely on the spicy side--so much that I couldn't finish them. I also tried the café de olla latte, but honestly it didn't have much flavor, which was a bit disappointing. One thing we noticed was that other tables around us were being offered conchas, but we were never offered any, which felt a little inconsistent. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would come back to try other items on the menu.

You do need a reservation, but it's very easy to make online, and there were plenty of time options available. The decor is absolutely beautiful! We felt a little underdressed at first, but we were told there's no strict dress code, which made us feel much more comfortable. I have three kids, and each of them was given a colorful bag with a tic-tac-toe game and a paper they could color. They loved it and stayed entertained the whole time! It was such a nice touch and different from the typical kids' coloring sheets you see at most restaurants. I will say they don't offer the usual chicken tenders and fries on the kids' menu, but that didn't stop us--we were happy to try something new for them. Our experience with the waiter and every staff member we interacted with was nothing short of amazing. It's clear the owner paid attention to every single detail when creating this place. Even the bathrooms are beautiful--and they even provide mouthwash! It really felt like an experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, and a standout detail was the cart that comes by with conchas and Abuelita coffee--such a unique and memorable addition. I also loved looking at the photos on the walls. Being here made me feel proud, and I truly appreciate how our culture is celebrated in such an elegant and beautiful way.

I visited on a Saturday morning. There are metered parking all around and some 2-hr parking in the neighborhood. If you don't have a reservation, expect to wait 30 minutes or more. We ended up in the outdoor seating area. It is spacious and comfortable, but it can get a bit chilly outside. For food, the chilaquiles al pastor was great. It comes with a delicious crema, and the spice really creeps up on you! We also ordered the ranchero chilaquiles. It tasted good, but felt like it was a bit light on the chorizo. You can ask for their hot sauce for some extra kick. We also ordered the fresca flight. It was a fun concept to try all their fresca but they're really tiny. The mango flavor was our favorite. The other flavors were more watery. We finished with the churros con cajeta, which were exceptionally tasty. The service was excellent. The staff was attentive and checked in on us often. Overall, brunch here is on the pricier side. However, the food is very flavorful. The quality is also very consistent with each visit. It is a solid choice for weekend chilaquiles.

The food here is always delicious. It's always fresh and full of flavor. I recommend getting the Tochomorocho instead of a full order of Chilaquiles. The Tochomorocho has a smaller portion of chilaquiles with your choice of sauce, huevos rancheros, sweet corn tamale, and a side of beans. It's $24.00, which is about the same you'd pay for Chilaquiles with a protein or eggs. My big complaint is that the prices have gone up quite a lot in the last year. $20 for chilaquiles is just a bit much. The service and ambiance is fast paced and much less friendly than it used to be. It feels like you're being rushed in and out so they can put another person in your seat.

I went here today for brunch and the food was ok. We didn't make a reservation, but it was pretty quick to get a table. Our food came out way before our coffee did so we ended up taking our coffee to go. I didn't know how to say it but I lowkey saw a couple roaches there both inside and outside. I get its location but that's kind of bad. After that, I just can't unsee it.

The food at Cocina 35 was amazing -- easily a 5/5. Everything we ordered was flavorful, fresh, and really well made. You can tell the kitchen knows what it's doing. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. No one came by to check on us, and we had to ask for water three different times before it was finally brought to the table. What made it more frustrating was seeing other tables around us being checked on regularly while we were kind of forgotten. Food: Service: Overall: I'd definitely come back for the food, but I really hope the service improves because it would make the whole experience so much better.

What a place! Delicious drinks and food. I had the enfrijoladas and they were so good! My husband and I also shared the agua fresca flight and it did not disappoint. The staff here is also efficient and friendly. Our waitress was very attentive as well. We sat inside and the noise level was perfect, we were still able to have conversation without having to shout. 10/10!

I hadn't been to Cocina 35 in a few years, so I decided to stop by and I'm really glad I did. The food is just as delicious as I remembered. My plate was packed with flavor and a generous amount of food, definitely worth the visit. The décor is warm and inviting, giving the place a great atmosphere. On top of that, the service was excellent friendly, attentive, and quick. Overall, Cocina 35 continues to impress. I'll definitely be coming back more often.

This was our first stop after arriving in San Diego. We were starving and wanted something close to our hotel. We had no idea that the restaurant is literally next door. Anyway, this place is super popular. There was a line when we arrived at about 11:30 California time (1:30 our time). We gave our name and waited about 15 minutes. We used that time to study the menu and by the time we were called, we could hardly wait! Everything looked so good. I had the burritos with pibil pork with mild red sauce. They were superb. The wife had the combo platter which was huge. I don't remember everything but there were 5 or 6 separate items and she ate them all! The sweet corn tamale stood out my mind. The chilaquiles with red sauce was really good and had a slight kick. The kid had an eggs and French toast plate and ate it all! We had churros for dessert although we were totally full and they were superfluous. Service was very good. Jaceline was friendly and professional. Ambience is pure Mexican. We felt like we were in Mexico with the music and the vibe. It was fun. Given the fact that the restaurant is next to our hotel, we will be back for sure.

CHILAQUILES RANCHEROS (Los Rancheros) with Iced CAFÉ DE OLLA (bottom) and Build your own chilaquiles with Mango Agua Fresca (top)
    Deanne L.

Came by for brunch for my birthday on a Thursday afternoon. Not crazy busy but handful of tables occupied at this time. Tried Los Rancheros chilaquiles for $21. The "this is how our abuela made them" in the description got me. Comes with chorizo on top. Super good flavors and filling portion. My partner built his own chilaquiles and it looked amazing. Didn't do my research and found out they do not serve alcohol at this location, although I know they do at the others. Was craving a cocktail, but instead, my drink that day was iced cafe de olla, pretty good no complaints. My fiancés mango Agua Fresca drink was unfortunately too sweet though, even after the ice melted later thinking it would water it down (in our togo cup) Could not finish it, not even close. The service was solid from Jaqueline that day. Cute decor in the restaurant

    El Tochomarocho Breakfast

Luckily we had a reservation, because this place fills up FAST. We ate indoors which was nice, but they do also have a nice sized patio. I got the cajeta Latte which is basically a caramel latte - it was creamy and delicious. I tried the Tochomarocho sampler breakfast which came with a sweet corn tamale, huevos rancheros, beans, and chilaquiles. The tamale was good, but I'm not sure I liked the sour cream on top. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the ranchero sauce was so flavorful. The beans were good, but the star of the plate was the chilaquiles. I opted for the creamy chipotle sauce and it was SO Good. Topped with cheese, onions, and sour cream, and the chips were so crispy despite being coated in the sauce. I could eat these all day everyday.

We ordered about six small plates, and they were all delicious and unique. Hard to pick a favorite. I'd say the shrimp tacos were absolutely incredible. Everything else was packed with flavor and very different than anything you will encounter at any other restaurant. It is special. My only complaint is that the place is so dark that you can barely read the menu. Also, being so dark, you can't get a good look at the food or even see color. And I would think that the food is beautifully presented. We are in our 60s. That might have something to do with our inability to see anything in that low light condition. We had to pull our phones out so that we could light up the menu and check out the food we were about to eat. It does make for a dramatic ambience. There are thousands of candles that add to the experience. But I gotta knock them a point because I couldn't see my food or read the menu without help.

The gentleman/waiter handed us the menu and went on his way. Chips and salsa along with waters for the table were brought and then that was when the service of our waiter went downhill. It was a long wait before the waiter even checked back on us and which is when I asked for a refill on my water and chips. We had order drinks as well. The smoked old fashion was good and the ahi tuna appetizer portion was plentiful. There were some parts of the diced ahi that was a bit chewy. The gaucamole portion was large and it wasn't until I asked another waiter did my refill of water and chips arrive. For entree, we got the scallops with corn cake, a salad and I had the poblano burger. I asked for the burger to be cooked to medium. When the entrees arrived my burger was overcooked with no pink in sight. The flavor of the burger was good but the burger was definitely dry as can be. The corn cake with scallop was interesting it was almost like the corn cake was a croquet that encased a corn salsa. Overall the food was okay but the service left a lot to be desired. The waiter and the end seemed to put up a fake act when the check came. Since we asked for the check it seemed like the waiter was on hyper speed. The salsa assortment is definitely worth ordering to go with the complimentary basket of chips and the complimentary salsa, because the three in the salsa assortment include very creative flavors, including an avocado-based salsa and a delicious pistachio one, along with one that is spicy enough to suit any palate. The house guacamole is also deliciously creamy and perfectly seasoned with lime. The real knockout dish that I had, though, was the taco with chicken pastor. I'm a big fan of pastor, but this is a very non-traditional preparation of pastor. Instead of being shredded pork mixed with a spicy sauce and hunks of pineapple, this was almost more like a Mexican cordon bleu where the chicken had been amazingly seared in some combination with cheese and pastor spices. It was absolutely delicious. The tacos might seem expensive at $10 apiece, but combined with the obviously house-made corn tortillas, I think they're a bargain. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere is very chill. There's a large outside seating area to enjoy, and San Diego is nearly always perfect weather.
