Had such a great breakfast at Breakfast Republic in the Gaslamp/East Village area! The food was delicious, fresh, and the portions were huge. Everything came out looking amazing, and there were so many great options to choose from. The atmosphere was fun and lively, and our service was friendly and attentive. Definitely a great spot for brunch when you're in downtown San Diego. I would definitely come back!
Serviced by Grant and he was awesome ! Friendly and helpful, patient and always made sure our coffee was topped off and that we got everything we needed. Cute atmosphere, not familiar with San Diego so this side of town was very new to me and I thought it was unique and quaint. As for the food, this is why my three stars I guess. Everything was creative, and they didn't really have anything basic, per se. If that's what you're looking for you won't find it here. Be prepared for a unique experience of homemade goodness. I guess as I write this I realise this place deserves 4

First time here because of SDCC 2026!! My hubby decided to give this place a try this morning as our hotel is close by...so happy he did! This place is such a vibe! It's so unique and different inside with whisks as lights! So cool! Well, to me I loved it. And of course, with great vibes, comes great breakfast too!! I ordered their Shrimp and Grits plate, and I haven't had such great grits since I was in the South(years ago)!!! I just love the smoothness and the texture of the grits and just a slight spiciness, not too hot. Mmmmmmm! Chef's kiss!! I also love the prints on their plates/bowls and coffee mugs! Speaking of coffee mugs, I love their coffee too!! So much that I asked for a to-go cup!! I love the presentation of the food too!! As a matter of fact, it's my first experience with breakfast served with awesome presentation! Service was good.
I recently took a trip out to San Diego for an appointment and stopped by Breakfast Republic; and wow, everything was absolutely delicious! The interior is super organized, and I loved that they have a full bar area as well. We started with some mimosas, which were fantastic and the perfect kickoff to breakfast. For food, I ordered the Vegan Tres Leches Pancakes, and they were incredible. They were so naturally flavorful and moist that they barely even needed any maple syrup; the combination of the pistachio brittle and vegan buttercream on top was perfect on its own. My friend ordered the Shrimp and Crab Cake Benedict and loved it. He said it was packed with flavor, not dry at all, and didn't taste overly fishy; just perfect in every way. To top it all off, our server was so sweet, checked on us often, and was incredibly proactive throughout our meal. Great food, great drinks, and excellent service. I will definitely recommend to vegans and non vegans. Just to clarify for anyone looking to visit; Breakfast Republic isn't a fully vegan restaurant, but they do have a fair amount of great vegan options clearly marked on the menu.
Amazing breakfast place is San Diego. I love roosters so this was right up my alley. Food was tasty and fresh. Service was fast and we never had to ask for anything we were well taken care of. The restaurant was so cute. See my pics and videos
Eric was amazing with his customer service /hospitality. As soon as her served as water had a smile & checked on us on a timely manner. He spoke spanish which helped my mom feel more at home. We're from the Bay Area and my mom was impressed with the food and his attention during our whole visit here. Love the steak& eggs & my moms omelette was made perfectly. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting SD!
My daughter discovered this breakfast spot--we waited about 30 minutes for a table. We chose to sit outdoors. My hubby ordered the Portuguese Linguisa Sausage Omelet, filled with chopped bacon, hot sauce, green bell peppers, garlic, and tomatoes, served with house potatoes and toast. I had the San Diego Benedict, featuring smoked turkey and avocado with two poached eggs on an English muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce and cilantro, and served with house potatoes. Our daughter enjoyed the Brioche French Toast topped with brûléed bananas. I also tried the Café de Olla, a coffee sweetened with house-made cinnamon piloncillo syrup, which was delicious. Our breakfast was hearty and flavorful, and the service was great.
SOLID BREAKFAST SPOT: I've been here a few times now and it's been consistently good. The Hot Chick Benedict was very good with just the right balance of heat and richness. On another visit I tried the pancakes, and another time the chilaquiles. Both were satisfying and clearly made with care. They offer bottomless coffee, which I always appreciate, and it makes it easy to relax and not feel rushed. If you're looking for a dependable breakfast place with good variety, this one delivers.
Had to try place, it is always busy the weekend. So lucky we are in town mid week. Everything was delicious Ordered: jambalaya, American breakfast, jalapeño cheddar sausage plate. More than enough to shared between four of us. Service was good not great, bathroom can be a wait when it's busy.

Everything we ordered was hot, fresh and delicious. Be sure to get there early as the tables fill up quickly and the restaurant isn't very large. It's located on a busy corner, street parking is limited and it wasn't very loud inside. Very inviting restaurant, comfortable booths / chairs, friendly and welcoming staff. Breakfast Republic is a great place to start the day and we highly recommend a visit here. Everything was perfect! Enjoy.
Probably the best breakfast I've had in California! Very creative combinations! I like how they are able to make adjustments and have so much variety. The breakfast jambalaya was good although they may have been a little dry, but the poached shakes were very tasty. The Jurassic Park bacon was an ample portion and pleasantly decadent. I miss having true Portuguese sausage from my last trip to Hawaii and this version did not disappoint. The freshly squeezed orange juice tasted great although it was in a pretty small glass and was not bottomless. I did enjoy trying the cocky 12 iced coffee that is served over ice cubes made of coffee, which was good, but nothing extraordinary and very pricey. Our total bill for just two people was close to $100. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was busy and there weren't that many servers. I definitely want to come back again and try more!
I went to the Breakfast Republic at their downtown location over the weekend and had a really great experience. Even though it was busy, we were seated in about 15 mins. The ambiance is casual and relaxed. We started with their in-house freshly squeezed orange juice and the Breakfast Republic specialty latte with vanilla, chai, and mocha. Both were delicious. The OJ was refreshing, and the latte was comforting. For food, we ordered the Hot Chick Benedict and their Chilaquiles. Everything was flavorful and satisfying, with generous portions and well-seasoned sauces. We also tried their limited-time special, the Golden Harvest French Toast, and this was the highlight. The brioche French toast topped with ricotta, fig jam, cinnamon-roasted pears, and a sweet honeycomb crumble was absolutely amazing. It was rich & perfectly sweet, and we honestly devoured the whole plate. Overall, a really enjoyable brunch with great drinks and standout food.
We stopped by Breakfast Republic for breakfast while we were in town for Comic-Con, and it quickly became one of my favorite breakfast spots in downtown San Diego. My wife ordered the sampler plate, and I had the Eggs Benedict. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Don't skip the specialty lattes--they were outstanding and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The prices were also very reasonable, especially compared with many of the restaurants near the Convention Center. The combination of great food, fun atmosphere, and good value makes this place an easy recommendation. I heard they're closing a few locations, so I'm really hoping this one stays open because it's a total gem. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in San Diego! read more
Definitely one of the highlights from our trip. - The decor was super punny. - Our server was very kind and super on top of refills of coffee(Which is one of my main things) - Hot sauce already on the table was such a nice touch - all the cups and plates were branded in fun ways! I love pancakes! But, I'm on a high protein, low-carb and low-calorie diet. And, gluten-free. So, what can I do? I can go to Breakfast Republic. They have protein pancakes that are low calorie and gluten-free. And, they taste pretty good. Not as good as their regular pancakes, but, good enough to satisfy my pancake craving. I have breakfast there one or two times a month. I always have the same thing - protein pancakes and decaf coffee. And, the portion is so huge that I take most of it home and have the pancakes for breakfast the next several days. Enough about the pancakes. Let's talk about the service, which is what compelled me to write this review. A few months ago I sat down and my server, Erick, came up to my table and said, "Protein pancakes and decaf?" I was blown away! He remembered me and my order. I am not that regular a guest. He is just that amazing. And, it doesn't stop there. A few minutes after delivering my food, he brought a to-go box, because he knew I always take most of my meal with me, and I'm always in a hurry. That's not great service - that's extraordinary service! At one to two times a month, Erick makes me feel like a 5 day a week regular. Breakfast Republic absolutely brings together great food, great vibe, and truly standout service. First off, Kayla deserves a massive shoutout, she was phenomenal. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful in everything she did. She checked in at all the right moments, made sure everything was perfect, and brought such positive energy to the table. Experiences like this are rare, and she's absolutely the kind of team member who elevates the entire restaurant. Seriously, give her a raise! This place is alright. I was expecting a better breakfast experience since there was a long line so we thought it'd be good. But by the time we got our orders, we were a bit disappointed. The potatoes were squishy. There were 4 thin slices of avocado. The egg yolk spilled over the English muffin was standard. Had to drop off the Son at the airport so we went to grab an early breakfast at Breakfast Republic near gaslamp. The ambience and vibe is always cool and very industrial looking yet warm and inviting. Hubby and I shared an omelette. Service was quick to the point but personable and the food came out rather quickly. The only complaint I would have is that I usually like my omelettes to have their cheese melted. This omelette was more like a frittata folded over so that's just a personal dislike. Parking was easy on an early Sunday morning and free to boot. Food was decent , service good- would come back and try other dishes next time in town. read more

Moderately busy at 1pm on a Friday but there was no wait! The waiter checked in on us often and was friendly. I got the loaded mash potato omelet and thought it was good. It could have used a little more salt but still tasted good. The potatoes on the side were fried well and pillowy on the inside. The sourdough toast was fine. The place was a bit noisy, but you didn't need to talk too loudly to be heard. We thought the portion size was well worth the price. read more

Best breakfast in San Diego? Food came in generous portions, eggs were light and fluffy, pancakes great tasting. The 'cafe de olla' was well made. The service was nicely attentive, even though the place was packed solid. The wait time was exactly 20 mins (which surprisingly was what we were told upon checking in), the crowd was big. But the food was served quickly, so the cycle time was pretty quick for tables. There is a pretty good amount of seating outside and inside, but be prepared for a line. Next time in San Diego, will be back. read more

This was an amazing place, we did have to wait for about an hour, but it was worth it! My family and I got the cinnamon pancakes, banana split french toast, jalapeño cheddar sausage, side of eggs, smoked ham, and bacon. Everything was delicious, and the smoked ham was extremely delicious! The cinnamon pancakes, were okay, but it did have a beautiful presentation to it. Would I come here again? Yes! I also had a good server named Joey. The restaurant opens at 7am, but he told us he was there at the restaurant at 6am to get the bf s prepared before they opened. You can tell he seemed tired, in which he did apologize for that, and were all humans and getting up that early can make anyone tried. Despite, we still had great service from him! As well, if you can't stand smoke do not sit outside where there are seats on south east side of the building because it does smell like smoke in that area, so make sure you sit inside! I hope those who do come here have a great experience here. There are no reservations so come as early as you can especially if you have a larger party! read more
We came with a large party, and even though the wait was long, the staff went out of their way to seat us in different sections until a bigger table was available. Once it opened up, they helped us move and merge the tables, which was really kind and accommodating. Food wise, I tried the pancake flight (Oreo, strawberry cheesecake, and cinnamon). Oreo wasn't my favorite, cheesecake was solid, and the cinnamon was the star. The California burrito was a miss for me very potato heavy, a bit dry, and the sauce didn't add much. I also asked for no beans but still got them. Not a deal breaker but worth noting. On the upside, the rice was delicious, great flavor and perfectly seasoned. The ambiance and decor were really nice, making it a fun spot overall. Some hits and misses with the food, but the service and vibe stood out. read more

Pro tip: make a reservation here, or you'll be starring in "35 Minutes of People-Watching: The Musical." We didn't know reservations were a thing, so we waited... and then found out our name got skipped on the list. Classic. Once I flagged it, though, we were seated immediately--so at least the hostess redeemed herself. Our server? Rockstar. Drinks hit the table, orders taken, plates cleared--no complaints there. I went for the shrimp and grits, which came with a random side of eggs (because apparently $20 doesn't buy you a full bowl of grits). My wife ordered the French toast, plus we shared bacon and fruit because balance. Now let's talk cocktails. My wife had the Bloody Maria and let's just say... her eyes rolled back in her head like she'd seen the face of brunch itself. That was a conversation later. I had the breakfast mule--solid, but not spiritual. Food was delicious, grits were cheesy and packed with shrimp, and everything else landed well. If they'd just fill the dang bowl and keep my name on the list, we'd be talking five stars easy. read more

I had to order it to go since I only had time to pack my suitcase in the morning, but let me tell you..... I will be back in-person!!!!! Love it. Is an understatement. The vegan plates were delicious!! I had the vegan burrito and the jammin' . The jammin needed more of that yummy vegan hollandaise sauce. Breakfast time in San Diego, YELP to the rescue. So this place was really close to where we stayed and it had good review so why not. I will say that there can be wait so be prepared. We didn't have to wait that long for our table because we asked about a little table in the corner that you could easily be forgotten about.. They have indoor and outdoor seating and we chose outside so we could people watch. (You're never disappointed when you can sit outside) The menu was pretty basic, but I must say that my pancakes were very good. My husband couldn't stop talking about how they got his overheard egg perfect. Our waiter was really sweet. (So sorry I forgot his name). They give you a lot of food as well. The ambiance is casual and family style. You can also order ahead and pick up your food. Side note, my mister loved the Ketchup style sauce. read more
**3.5 stars** This place was crazy busy when we arrived. It took over 30 minutes to get a table, even though there were tables open the whole time we were waiting. Most of them were not bused/cleaned yet. Once we were finally seated, the sat us at a large booth with 2 other people. When the wait staff came to take our order, we told them that we weren't together and that the host who seated us said that this was a community table. The wait staff advised us, it wasn't a community table, just a large booth and that the host shouldn't have seated two parties at the same table, so they moved the other two people. We were fine sharing the large table, but they moved them anyways. Our wait staff was super friendly and chatty. Loved the service. I ordered a benedict which was pretty average, didn't really care for the potatoes, and the banana foster french toast was a bit on the chewy side. The food wasn't really worth the wait. Probably won't be back to this place again. read more

Came to this location for brunch with a group of six friends on a Saturday. There wasn't a long wait, which was a nice surprise. Our server was quick to greet us and got all of our orders out promptly. I ordered the chicken fennel sausage omelette, which was delicious, and the iced Breakfast Republic latte, a mix of vanilla, chai, and mocha, that was refreshing. Parking is either metered street parking or paid lots by license plate, but that's pretty typical for the city. read more

What went well, everything. Tuesday morning at 9:00, no wait and seated immediately. Server was affable with a quick wit. Hot coffee, yes immediately. Cinnamon roll pancakes, once a week please. Shrimp and crab cakes Benedict, ask for more jalapeño jam. Sooo good we came back Wednesday morning. Again seated right away, different server, more crowded today. Chilaquiles had very fresh and crispy tortillas but needed more sauce and a longer soak. Would order again. Shrimp + grits was the Wednesday winner. Creamy grits with numerous good sized shrimps and not over cooked. Delish. Next time in uptown Gaslamp we will return. read more

Yes, please. I went to breakfast republic in search of real breakfast food to get me going during a busy week. I ordered the Portuguese linguisa sausage scramble, wanting a bit of spice and protein to kickstart my morning. It was exactly what I needed; there was plenty of flavor, and the portion was a bit hefty, making it a true brunch. The cafe itself is nice. While some of the tables are close together, it gives a sweet community vibe. The servers are friendly and the coffee is hot. If you're looking for a good breakfast spot, this is it. read more

I would have one person come about a half hour early and then text everyone once they got the reservation or put on the list

Yes, there is a full vegan section on the menu. And currently one of the seasonal specials is Vegan as well!
Is this place Kid friendly?
Yes, it's actually family friendly and girl's brunch day friendly. It's for everyone without feeling like one or the other.
Do they have the nutritional info somewhere?
The menu details the ingredients but I don't think you'd eat here if you were being calorie conscious. They have vegan and veggie dishes.
Do they serve mimosas on fridays ? Seen other local restaurants only do brunch on Saturdays and sundays
Mimosas are a part of their regular daily menu.
How long is the wait usually for Sunday brunch?
The later you go the longer the wait. Approximately an hour to an hour and a half later in the day.
Are they taking reservations?
No reservations. It's first come first serve! Show up early and enjoy the amazing food!
Do they take reservations somewhere?
Hi, unfortunately we’re on a first come first serve basis and don’t accept reservations
Do they have bottomless mimosas?
No but we do serve mimosas by the bottle to save a few dollars!
