Way overrated. Breakfast took 30 minutes to arrive, eggs were dry, no lemon ricotta in the rubbery "lemon ricotta "pancakes. Fruit was inedible. I can make a much better breakfast at home. read more

I went there right when they opened up. The wait staff was full of energy and on top of everything. Coffee and tea was served quickly and my order was taken as soon as I was ready. I ordered the Hash Skillet extra crispy with a side on 1pc pancake. I didn't have to wait long before my order was served. It was as I ordered it. Veronica came by to check if everything is okay, she was very attentive to everyone there. The food was great. If there was one critic that I would make, it was that there were too much Bell peppers, but I would rather have too much than too little. Still a great job. The place was very clean and comfortable. Today was worse than yesterday. I have to say this is no longer my favorite place for breakfast in the Gaslamp. I was seated quickly, but again at a table that had not been thoroughly cleaned after previous guests. More than ten minutes before being offered water and coffee. Otherwise, the California Benedict was excellent. Service was courteous but not very attentive. I think my server had a lot of tables both inside the restaurant and outside on the patio. Came here once about ten years ago and decided to come back since I'm in town for a few days. Came early, so no wait, had my black coffee in less than a minute, ordered the ranchero skillet and really enjoyed it. Tried a couple of hot sauces that were on the table and they complemented the dish well. As good as I remembered. Great stop! read more

I traveled to San Diego for a conference and spent four days in the Gaslamp area. I decided to have breakfast at The Broken Yolk the first morning. I had an omelette and the lemon ricotta pancakes. This was the best breakfast I have had in years! The pancakes were huge and fluffy, cooked to perfection. The omelette was immense and impossible to finish. I was able to save half of it for lunch. Every bite was exquisite. I sat at a very comfortable booth near the kitchen, and every part of the Service team was absolutely wonderful and pleasant, which is hard to find at 6 AM. Veronica was my server for all three days and she was just a gem. The second day I was in town I had the salmon eggs Benedict and the traditional eggs Benedict. Those were both absolutely delicious! The third morning, I had the feta avocado toast and the cinnacakes pancakes. Absolutely amazing! This was the largest avocado toast I have ever seen in my life. Also impossible to eat more than half of it. The poached eggs were absolutely delicious and my Matcha green tea latte was the best I've ever had in my entire life. I cannot say enough positive things about this location. The manager, Daniel was also very pleasant and welcomed me back with charm the next morning. If you live in the area or are in town, do not leave without checking this place out. I don't think there's anything on the menu that can disappoint. Stopped by Broken Yolk Cafe while staying in the Gaslamp District, and the location couldn't have been more convenient, an easy, beautiful walk from our hotel. We sat outside, which made for a great start to the day. Our waitress was awesome, very attentive and checked in right on time without being overbearing. Food-wise, it was a bit of a mixed experience. I wasn't a fan of my omelet, which had loads of American cheese , but the blueberry muffin that came with the meal was a sweet surprise and really good. We come here every year after the hot chocolate run. It's always a good experience. We get seated right away, the servers are always very nice and gove great service. I'm a very one dimensional when it comes to breakfast. Scramble eggs with cheese and a side of bacon. The bacon is always crispy and well done. The line to get in wasn't bad, but once we were seated, the service was incredibly slow. It took a very long time for our food to come out, and while the food itself was decent, the service really brought the experience down. Our waitress only checked on us once during the entire meal. We waited so long for her to come back that I had to wave her down just to get her attention. At one point, we needed silverware and couldn't find our server, so I ended up grabbing it from the empty table next to us. I do recommend checking it before you go. It filled up fast. The menu is huge. I got biscuits n gravy eith fruit, my hubby got an omelet with fruit. It came with hash browns, your choice of egg and sausage or bacon. The hash browns were crispy and delicious! The strawberry Belgian waffle was light and fluffy. I would say Broken Yolk is a step up from denny's but not as good as Gaslamp Breakfast Company. Service was excellent. We had a large party and they were able to accommodate us. The servers were attentive. There is both indoor and outdoor seating at the restaurant. The restaurant has ample seating. Parking is a bit tricky since it's in downtown. I genuinely cannot say enough good things about this place! I stopped in for breakfast while staying at the Marriott in the Gaslamp during NASCAR weekend and ended up sitting at the bar by myself. Angel, the bartender, and the manager (I'm so sorry I can't remember his name!) made the entire experience. They talked with me the whole time, made me feel completely welcome, and were genuinely two of the sweetest people I met during my trip. And the espresso martinis were easily some of the best I've ever had -- which is saying something! I enjoyed myself so much that I came back the very next day and brought my boyfriend with me. That alone should tell you how great the experience was. If you're staying at the Marriott or anywhere in the downtown Gaslamp area, do yourself a favor and walk across the street and stop in. Great breakfast, amazing drinks, and even better people. I'll absolutely be recommending this place to anyone I know visiting San Diego. I usually go there by myself about once every month or so. Ordering the same each time except instead of scrambled eggs I ordered over medium. Lesson: if the yolks are cold and glutinous they are raw. The service is mostly good but to get a 2nd cuppa one must wave hands in the air. And. the noise level demands ear plugs because if the awful music blaring over the speakers competing with Tvs. To avoid the cacophony ask to be seated outside. read more

I was very impressed with the options for a healthy fare. At first, I would have had the yogurt parfait but I hate nonfat or low fat Greek yogurt because I'm a full fat type of girl. The broken yellow was a short joint from the telly, and even shorter wait for my table. Service was good, and the vibe was definitely viben'. The food was OK, my potatoes could've been done a little more crispy, and even though I asked for them that way they didn't come that way, but I pushed through. I did try to place the order over the phone but they don't take the birthday reward over the phone, only take credit card. I really hate flagging down servers, and I had to do that a lot here. 20 minutes and a reminder for the first cup of coffee. Never got a refill and had to ask for more water. I asked for over medium eggs. Got scrambled. Poached eggs looked like hard boiled. Hollandaise was broken. Hash browns were cold. It was pretty bad. Unfortunately, the food and drinks did not match his level of service. We ordered the Bloody Mary and mimosa flights to kick off our anniversary breakfast. The mimosas were served warm, and the Bloody Marys tasted like straight, lukewarm alcohol with no flavor. While Serafín kindly brought extra mix, Clamato, and ice so we could adjust them, you shouldn't have to DIY a specialty drink flight. As for the food, the sweet corn eggs Benedict was divine, but my sope was served completely raw in the middle. It was remade, but it arrived long after the rest of the meal was finished. My husband's burger was also noticeably bland. The restaurant wasn't busy, so walking away with a nearly $100 bill for undercooked food and warm drinks was very disappointing.
