Stopped by for a quick lunch before watching a movie, conveniently right across the street. The place is super cute and quaint, as if you are at a cafe in Paris. It has an old school rustic vibe with bistro tables inside and in the back area. We shared a steak sandwich and a side of truffle fries. The steak was tender and the bell peppers and arugula on a ciabatta bread were just perfection, so a 10/10. It comes with chips, and though I liked they were actually from real potatoes, it was a bit stale, so 6/10. Glad we got the side of truffle fries because that went perfectly with our sandwich 9/10. Service was also great. She made sure we got our food quickly, since we told her we were in a rush. If we had more time I would have gotten a coffee or pastry from their bakery, so I'll have to come back for that next time.
9/5/2026 - walked inside his small bakery, lots of fun items to select from. I'm always a fan of a peanut butter cookie. These were large and expensive at $5.75. Well worth the money. Tasty and big. Oh my. I'm stuffed. Off for a drink now. See photos.
I've been here a year ago and truly enjoyed it. Last month I took my boyfriend and it wasn't that great. My sandwich was kinda flavorless and coffee was too watery. He got a croissant and that was great. The place is pretty popular so be ready to wait for table...and for the waiter to take your order. It took us around 30 mins to get the table and another 30-40 to place an order. They have a little cute patio in the back where you can enjoy sun (if it's not too hot hehe). Overall recommended.
This is such a lovely bistro in Coronado, nestled in between the gym and another cafe, Clayton's Bakery & Bistro is a quaint spot for a sweet treat and some French-style food. We came during their happy hour which is daily from 3pm-7pm! Enjoyed a nice espresso martini which was seriously delicious, on their patio. Although my meal wasn't very French style at all, I still had an amazing steak sandwich and fries. The steak sandwich was dripping with juices, and sandwiched in between ciabatta roll, which was toasted and warm. It was recommended by our server, and I thank her for her recs! Lastly, we got to try some of their desserts. They were all delicious, and I enjoyed their Moon Pie the most. We actually had a hiccup with our meal (found something in the sandwich), but the service remained professional and was taken seriously. The food here is tasty, though and everyone is friendly. Through all that, I would still consider revisiting Clayton's again.
There was no wait for 5 people for Friday lunch and there's a surprisingly large seating area behind the inside of the restaurant for those who want to sit outside. The dutch pancake was huge and tasted amazing. The warm beignets was great, especially with the lemon curd. I got the egg, turkey sausage and cheddar bagel and that was a huge mistake. It was the most unsatisfying things to eat because of how dry it was. None of the flavors seem to come out leaving you with a tasteless lump of food in your mouth. Everything else on the table was pretty solid though I just wouldn't get that dish again.
Really disappointed experience. Our friends recommended it to us as one of the best branch spot in San Diego. The wait time was around an hour and then we had to wait for another 40 minutes just to get our water and place an order and then we waited another 40 minutes to get our food. The croissant was soggy, completely soaked and just felt apart - really disappointing. The steak was okay, but a lil chewy and overall is too much flavor for the sandwich. The coffee was strong bur watery. Unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the place at all
What a charming bistro and bakery for a Sunday brunch. Lovely French music and flair. We checked out the bakery while waiting. The last cinnamon roll had our name all over it. Sooo good. Chaga matcha mushroom latter with almond had a strong earthy and sweet flavor to it. Hit the spot. Veggie wrap with truffle fries no cheese was fresh, filling and delicious! Perfect weather to sit on front patio and enjoy Coronado.
Food was excellent as always! Love their Dutch Baby with lemon curd. And the chi tea latte is way better than Starbucks. All of their cups and saucers for hot drinks are Le Creuset!!!!
We stopped in for Sunday brunch after church and only had a short wait for a table for two. The service was prompt, welcoming, and very sweet and helpful. We chose to sit on the charming, cozy patio, which made for a really pleasant atmosphere. The drinks took a little while to arrive, but the rest of the service was excellent. The food was scrumptious--fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I also love that they have a bakery and coffee shop attached, which is such a nice bonus.
Was walking by and my wife and decided to try this today. Wow what a great treat! Outstanding menu, great drinks, friendly service. I couldn't decide and had to order both croque madame and Dutch pancake. My wife got farmhouse frittata. Everything was delicious. My mocha had just the right chocolate grated over thick whip cream. Very happy to have found this place.
Stopped in to try a few sweet treats- the place is so lovely and quaint! There were many amazing sweet options to choose from I had a hard time deciding ! I tried the Manhattan cookie and macaroons, which were very flavorful and delicious. Would definitely love to come back to try additional food and beverage items!
So amazing! I'll admit I'm more of a breakfast person so I've never ordered a sandwich. The B.L.T was so good, made with applewood bacon, crisp fresh lettuce, garlic aioli on a toasted delicious croissant with everything seasoning . The best seating of course is in the back and pro tip they have a little parking lot in the alley. 9/10 recommended!!
The coffee and croissant at Clayton's Bakery were both exceptional. The croissant is freshly baked on-site each morning and served warm and invitingly. The coffee provided the invigorating boost I needed on this specific morning. I look forward to my next trip to San Diego and a return visit to Clayton's Bakery.

What a wonderful place for breakfast lunch or brunch. We came here on a Sunday afternoon after checking out of our hotel. We were told to wait 20 minutes for a party of 6. Very friendly and welcoming hostess. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. One side is a bakery and one side is the bistro. The food here was delicious. Everything we ordered from coffee to dishes tastes amazing. The bagel with lox and cream cheese I ordered was the best one I ever had at a restaurant. My husband ordered a croque Monsieur and loved it. Again the best one ever. The avocado toast and the wraps were as good. My son had the honey bee cortado which was perfectly made. Our waiter I believe his name was Payton was very nice and attentive. Everyone we encountered with were amazing. We really enjoyed our brunch here and will definitely be back again when in Coronado. : read more

This place was lovely! One this however: do not confuse with the other Clayton's, which is a greasy spoon type joint- also looks good but they are different places. The atmosphere and decor transported me to Paris instantly! I came here for breakfast and got the yogurt bowl, which was extremely good, and my party also enjoyed their food as well. The wait staff was very friendly. This whole experience was great, highly recommend. read more
Stopped in Sunday while attending a convention at the Lowe's. Sat out on the patio and started with a glass of orange juice. Everything on the menu looked delicious, but I decided to go with the breakfast plate, scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes and sourdough toast. Everything was delishes. Nice place for one or two people (maybe four) but not for larger groups. read more

This is one of my favourite places for Lox! We decided to visit a Friday morning and the wait was about 10 minutes which we used to browse the store next door . The seating is comparable to a European cafe and the service is fast and friendly . Enjoyed the Lox and my sister had the egg croissant. Both dishes were fresh and very tasty. Recommend read more

My favorite breakfast spot in San Diego! However recently they changed their service model where instead of ordering as you enter and the food is brought to you, they have the traditional waitress service and that has resulted in significant delays in the food coming to the tables! Other than than the food in amazing and the waitresses are cordial and polite. read more
I've eaten at the bakery portion probably 20+ times haha. It's a walk from my house and has amazing pastries! I usually get the chocolate croissant or almond croissant, but their seasonal pastries are great as well. I've also had the matcha and caramel macchiato and liked them. For the bistro side, the egg/tomato/spinach on an everything croissant was heaven. Love this place! read more

This place was such a treat! We've been walking around the island and needed a midday break and this bakery and bistro delivered! I'm pretty sure the bakery and bistro were separate but we only visited the bakery portion. It's very small inside and there was a line when we entered. They have a beautiful glass case of treats, pastries and cakes. I got the honey lavender latte with almond milk. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. We were able to snag a seat outside and enjoy the beautiful California weather. read more

This was recommended to me by several people. Popped in here and it is a cute little quaint bistro. One side is a restaurant, and the other side is a bakery. They have indoor and outdoor seating. A front patio and a back patio. The weather was perfect so we decided to sit on the front patio. The staff was friendly and very helpful with recommendations. I started with the cinnamon honey latte (delicious!) got the Dolce de Leche bread pudding (sooooo good!) and the Eggs, bacon, fontina (on an amazing soft, flaky, buttery croissant). Definitely recommend trying this place if you're on Coronado Island. read more

Overall I will say it was a good experience. Arrived here early and sat ourselves. Service at first seemed a tad bit slow but I think it was recognized and adjusted as our server was switched out in the middle of our meal. That in itself won favor in my opinion. Everything was made fresh and was served hot. A couple items did not receive a picture due to being hungry and it looking so good. The Dutch Baby and Loraine Quiche I highly recommend. read more

I wanted to try this adorable bakery on my last visit but didn't have time as it was a short work trip to NASNI and I didn't have a lot of free time on the island. Last week, I was able to spend an afternoon and have lunch and chose to spend it here! I'm so glad I did. This is going to be one of those, must eat at spots from now on when I'm on Coronado. I was easily sat on the back patio outside without a wait and a friendly server came to take my order within just a few minutes. I tried the Lavender Vietnamese Iced Coffee and their Spinach, Tomato and Cheese Croissant. Both were wonderful, I did have to have my coffee remade bc it was so sweet it didn't taste like coffee ut more like syrup. Easily taken care of by my server who was attentive and proficient the entire time and apologized for the ratio of milk/syrup to coffee. My sandwich on the buttered croissant was amazing and I chose to add their fresh house-made chips for $4 which was a huge portion (I took half to go and enjoyed later) and very delicious and crispy and fresh. After lunch I went to the bakery next door to browse the sweets and every single thing was beautiful and delicious. They have huge cookies and small cupcakes as well as gorgeous fresh whole cakes you can purchase. Staff inside was equally as friendly and sweet. read more
