If you have not been here you must change that! They have wonderful cakes and other goodies to choose from. They also serve wine. A colleague of mine ordered a cake for me and had it delivered and it was sooo good. But for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the cake but I attached pictures here. They have very delicious and beautiful cakes to choose from. So if you're looking for a special cake I highly recommend Extraordinary Desserts.
The sugar bun was delicious! I might be a bigger fan of their pastries than their cake. The Shrang-la cake was decorated so beautifully! I loved the white chocolate shavings all around. Unfortunately the cake didn't hold well in my commute to Temecula (esp during the heat wave). The dairy ended up hurting our stomachs.
Cakes are caking! Friend had the Gianduia and I had the Blood Orange Ricotta cake slices. Rich, decadent, and worth the calories. Don't worry, we walked here so we'll burn some off on the walk back to the house. Beautiful presentation, sauces were just wow. Get you some cake.
Beautiful desserts. Dropped on for breakfast on a Sunday. It was not busy at all. They have beautiful desserts in the display window. They're $12+ we were looking for breakfast foods and unfortunately didn't find it here, but would have absolutely loved to try the desserts at another time.
I go here often enough to make reviews on specific items...lol. I highly suggest ordering the grilled cheese and tomato soup special if you like cheese and tomatoes. There is nothing like tasting a real, pureed vegetable in a veggie soup. If it started out canned, I wouldn't have known it (not that I'm saying that), and you have to like cheese because you get a thick, melted, and stringy cut on sourdough bread, toasted perfectly to hold up to dipping in the soup. On a warm day, this dish goes great with an IPA or chilled white wine.
Daughter and I were in Little Italy for late night dinner and we needed a great desert spot, of course! We walked (5 min) to Extraordinary Desserts and I haven't been here in YEARS. We ordered a pineapple coconut scone and blueberry cheese cake croissant. Both were SO PRETTY and so delicious. My daughter and I tried to choose our favorite and we decided, why, they are both terrific! The scone was so buttery and this flavor combo was so yummmm! The croissant was so flaky and perfectly blueberry filled! I grabbed a chocolate chip cookie dough to go-my best move of the night! Now I have delicious cookies at home whenever I like!
We sat at the bar while we waited for our orders. Served fast and it was so nice that it wasn't crowded but of course due to it being a weeknight. The parking was a bit tough, but luckily I found a spot not that far away. Overall, you get wonderful customer service here! Thank you Extraordinary Desserts for making our visit enjoyable!!
So good it was scary how good. Absolutely worth going for a treat. It looks like people actually ate dinner there instead of only desserts. We sat inside and it was convenient that you could get your own water & to-go boxes. Made it less stressful. We went late at night, so like the lighting was more like mood lighting, but it was really nice. The place was very much decorated and looked like it had been additionally built-in. Absolutely worth going to. The person at the counter was very nice.

One thing to note: there isn't a clearly displayed dessert menu, so it's helpful to look at the options and decide what you want while waiting in line. FOOD: 4.5/5 The desserts are absolutely stunning and beautifully presented. They were a bit sweeter than my personal preference, but still incredibly delicious and worth trying. ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 The interior perfectly complements the desserts with a floral, elegant aesthetic. It's a gorgeous space that makes the whole experience feel special.

Still my go to place when I'm craving something sweet and special. Their cakes may be pricey, but in my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though
I hate to say it, but this place felt a bit overhyped to me. It is definitely beautiful and visually appealing, but the prices are high and the taste just did not stand out. I got two slices to go and unfortunately ended up throwing most of them away. One was their version of tiramisu, and it leaned more toward a basic cake rather than having that classic tiramisu texture and flavor. On a positive note, they package everything really well. By the time I got home, the cake and frosting were still perfectly intact, which I appreciated. My recommendation would be not to over order. Sharing a slice with a couple of people is probably the way to go. I would mainly bring visitors here for the presentation rather than the flavor.

This place is properly named extraordinary dessert for a reason. They are known for their desserts both in taste and in aesthetics. Desserts: 5/5 We got a blood orange scone and a strawberry danish. The scone was warm and delicious. The orange essence was well infused. The danish was crispy and creamy. Everything was so picturesque. Food: 3/5 Unfortunately, the food was not the best. We got the smoked salmon sandwich which was not very flavorful. The salmon was also slimy. The pesto spread was good though. It was creamy and the artisan bread it was served had great variety. Ambiance: 5/5 This place is such super cute. When you walk in, the desserts all look super appetizing. The seating areas are super cute and the floral decor are stunning. Service: 5/5 It is an order then sit down establishment. There is great attention to their dessert. I saw them heat up a knife just to cleanly cut the cake. So good it was scary how good. Absolutely worth going for a treat. It looks like people actually ate dinner there instead of only desserts. Food was good, service was ok, other customers were rude but atmosphere was good. A cute place to enjoy some snacks with friends. Tables were decent size for groups. read more
My boss ordered the dulce de Leche cake and it was delicious. It fed 10 of us and there was still about 1/2 a cake left so easily can feed 15-20 with small slices. It's rich so you really can't do a huge slice. The flowers aren't edible but make the cake look beautiful. read more

I mean just wow! Truly speechless at the amount of love that goes into every dessert, and let me share that nothing was overly sweet, just the perfect amount of sweet. On our way back from a quick turn around trip to Tijuana Mx, stopped by this place to satisfy a sweet cake craving and tried three new desserts! The Ivory Royale was giving Wedding Cake heaven and the raspberry syrup added the most amazing touch! I also ordered a cold Iced Tea that was titled something Paris, I wish I remembered the name, but definitely another 10/10! If you're a tea lover, they have an amazing selection of herbal teas that are refreshing and delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. read more

We were craving a late night dessert and decided to stop by extraordinary desserts. Growing up, my friend and I used to drive all the way from north county to have desserts here, and 15+ years later, they still haven't lost their touch. I highly suggest getting their half slices (if they have any). They were still huge slices but much cheaper. I love how rich the chocolate cake was, with gentle hints of brandy. The passion fruit ricotta cake was so refreshing with strawberry and kiwi puree. We were literally in dopamine rushh!!! Soooo goood! read more

A friend of mine is a dark chocolate fan and these decadent slices of cake they have always is a hit with her. I HIGHLY recommend for dark chocolate cakes specifically. I got a few slices of a few different cakes but they also have cookies and other yummy treats. You can buy whole cakes here so I recommend that too as they are beautiful and most come with flowers on them. The service I experienced was phenomenal. Even though there was a line forming I had some questions (I went to get treats for my family friend who has allergies) and the man at the front was super kind and patient. As a side note something I learned during that conversation was that on Thursdays they have something that is a "Yogi" cake and it is nut free and all-the-allergies-you-can-be-allergic-to free! So recommend that. You order in the front and then there are seats behind. It's a cute little place. I went early around opening time and the line wasn't long. But because I went early (11am) there was plenty of street parking. But it's $1.25. read more

I came here with one of my girlfriends to celebrate Palentine's Day, and honestly it might have been the most perfect "girl dinner" I've ever had. They had a special themed menu for the occasion, and the place really went all out to make the experience feel special. Our table was beautifully decorated with flower petals, and the seating area featured a gorgeous three-tiered display adorned with even more gorgeous flowers. Extraordinary Desserts are known for their floral touches. It made us feel so celebrated like we were at our own little Galentine's event. The evening started with a lovely charcuterie spread brought out by our server: an assortment of cheeses and meats paired with fresh fruit and flavorful spreads (the pesto was especially good). Each plate was presented thoughtfully, and our server took the time to explain everything as it arrived. The service was warm and attentive: they checked in just the right amount without ever rushing us. My friend and I talk a lot, and we almost stayed until closing! Of course, the desserts were my focus. Everything looked like edible artwork. My personal favorite was the chocolate cake: rich, decadent, and absolutely unforgettable. I was also so thankful we still had some cheese on the table because chocolate cake with Brie is a surprisingly perfect combination. Between the classy ambiance, wonderful food, thoughtful service, and the best company, it was one of those nights you wish you could bottle up and relive again. It was late afternoon and all the dessert spots I had bookmarked were closed. We noticed that this popular spot closed at 9pm, so we headed over. As you walk in you'll see a display of beautiful desserts. Probably best to come in the morning for more choices. Order at the counter to dine in or to order takeout. Since it was pretty late, we decided to order a couple of desserts to bring home. We tried, Danish Parisienne Strawberry 4/5 Creme Brule 2/5 Bread Pudding for two Chocolate Croissant 5/5 The desserts are definitely pretty and the flowers used on the desserts are real. As you can see from my ratings some desserts were absolutely delicious and some were just ok. We would definitely come back to try a bit more. read more

Absolutely decadent pastries and cakes! Prices are quite steep but the desserts are good enough to make it worthwhile for a special occasion! We went on valentine's day just 30 minutes before closing, and stood in a long line out the door. We ended up taking our desserts to go, and got the Bete Noir cake and one of their specialty valentines cookies. The cake was possibly the best chocolate cake I have ever tried - the thin layers of rich chocolate cake paired perfectly with the creamy filling! I've been dreaming about it ever since. For valentine's day the place was decorate VERY extravagantly in pink and red hearts, would definitely be a great date spot any time of the year! read more

On our last night in San Diego, we took the short walk to Extraordinary Desserts after dinner. The place was empty when we arrived, which gave us time to admire all the fabulous desserts and make our selections -- Bread Pudding and Lemon Meringue Loaf. After choosing a table, we watched each customer light up as they walked in to all the beautifully displayed desserts. Most took their orders to go but I'm so glad we chose to have our desserts there because the presentations were stunning! The decor is modern, yet warm and inviting. The constant sweet aroma of pastries is wonderfully intoxicating. The prices are very reasonable, IMO, for the generous portions and amazing presentations. Everything was so delicious! Extraordinary Desserts has an elevated selection of cakes, desserts, and drinks. Customer service is friendly and efficient, and ambiance is lovely. I highly recommend this place if you have a sweet tooth and want to try fancy cakes and desserts. There hasn't been a single item that I have not liked on their menu. read more
Decadent and delicious, Extraordinary Desserts is both date and family ... it's also a great spot to "treat yo self" to something sweet. From cookies to cakes, bars, and pies this beautiful spot is worth checking out even if it is a bit pricey. Coffee, tea, and wine also available to complement your eats. read more

Went here to extend the celebratation of my Aunt's Birthday after dinner as my Uncle insisted that we should try it out as it is a good dessert place when you're in the area. It was pretty hard to find parking in this area so we walked going here. Upon coming there was a long line to order inside but there's so many tables inside that even if we are a group of 12, we were seated right away. We ordered a variety of cakes and drinks but what stood out for me was their Chocolate Dulce de Leche. Also tried their Dirty Matcha Affogato which is good too. Our table had the Ivoire Royale, Carrot Cake, Flourless Chocolate Berry Cake, and Chocolate dulce de leche and a variety of drinks as well. Everything tasted great and the place really lived up to its hype. A must visit Cafe when you're in San Diego for sure. read more

My best friend from out of town came to visit and we were looking for a good gluten free dessert after lunch in Little Italy. We headed here since we assumed they would at least one gluten free dessert, and it exceeded our expectations. The place is large, spacious and beautifully decorated. All the desserts were like art and there were at least 4 gluten free options that didn't look like afterthoughts. We had the gluten free flourless chocolate cake with raspberries and strawberries. It was delicious! The service was so sweet and we'd definitely go back! read more
The only place I can find my favorite dessert -- a banana cream pie. It's become a tradition: every year on my birthday, I treat myself to a banana cream pie from Extraordinary Desserts. It's the best. Like all their desserts, it's almost too beautiful to eat. The individual size is perfect for one (or two if you're willing to share), and it pairs so well with their espresso drinks. I love having a spot that's open late where you can grab a dessert and a coffee. The pie is topped with gorgeous chocolate shavings and gold‑tipped edible flowers -- truly a little work of art. I've also been here for lunch, and the Caesar dressing is amazing. They even sell it to go. Their menu has a wide selection of teas, coffee drinks, and even some wine. It's the perfect place for a lunch meeting, a post-date night stop, or a cozy coffee hang. read more

Treat your family after spending a day in Balboa Park to this lovely Haven. Both napolean and the strawberry sanish parisienne pastries were yummy. However I recommend that you share the napolean with one other person and the strawberry danish parisienne is enough for one person. The brown sugar oat latte was massive and I was not expecting that size so you should also share that one! All in all it's a nice place to just enjoy a nice pastry and chat with friends or family. read more
Knocked a couple of stars off for changing their ordering methods. Lack of service at these prices is incomprehensible. I used to come every week, now it's more like twice a year. Also miss their earl grey cookie dough. It's been gone a long time, but I still always check for it just in case it comes back. Miss the customer service they once had. You used to get personal service for dessert suggestions before paying with the same person who helped you, and could order from the table when dining in. Now, you figure out what you want and stand in a long single file line to order from one cashier, even if you're dining in. Been checking back periodically, hoping they'd change back but it doesn't look like it's going to revert back. As for food, still delicious. This includes their beautiful cakes and food. Went with a friend midday recently, and luckily the line was short. She says it's the best gluten free bread she's ever had. When I inquired, they said they make their bread with cheese baked into it. No wonder it's good. Unfortunately, they don't sell bread to go. It has to be in the form of a sandwich. But if you're gluten free, try their soup & sandwich. Love the decor, flowers everywhere. Without glasses, I thought the ones on their bar were real, LOL. Tables and floors are always clean and ready for seating. There's also a small area outside, beyond the dining room, with tables for sunny San Diego days! Bon appetit! read more
Extraordinary Desserts was the go-to special occasion cake shop during my years in college 10 years ago. I still make a point of visiting whenever I'm visiting SD. At my most recent visit we ordered the a slice of the berry Chantilly and the chocolate ganache cake. Even with the nostalgia aside, I still love their cakes. read more

Food quality is excellent, i love the pesto dip with crackers and bread; the pesto is freshly made with decent amount of pine nuts and fresh grated parmesan flakes, Blt sandwich is with good amount of veggie and good size egg sandwich is just have enough salt to the taste and finally my upgraded avocado toast it has fresh mashed avocado and slice avocado with mix sprouts and nice touch of slices fig with some spices ofcourse the reason we came here are for the slices of cake we had dolce deleche cheese cake and a viking chocolate cake both superb we will definitely come back for the dolce deleche chocolate cake read more
What a surpise to find this within walking distance from my hotel. I was craving something sweet. This is an order at the counter and they bring it to your table type of place. It's a really big restaurant which kind of felt like a bar. I asked the person at the counter what was good and what was popular. He mentioned the SHANGRI-LA. Here is the description from the menu: White chocolate mousse along with flavorsome tropical guava mousse and fresh strawberries are layered in between whipped cream and cherry pomegranate syrup infused almond cakes. It was very good and not too sweet. read more

Yes, they are rose petals with edible gold leafing. All the flowers on the desserts are edible :)

Not that I'm aware, they have vegan and gluten free for sure
Are flies still an issue?
Yes, they were present, not bad bad, but noticeable...inside the glass cases at that. I just prayed over my dessert and enjoyed
Do they make princess cakes?
They don’t do that sort of thing, but they do make gorgeous, fancy cakes and specialty desserts!
When is the best time to order from them? Whenever I go to their online order menu everything is pretty much sold out. I really want to try this place out but never can.
