It's worth the hype that I have been seeing online. The mochi tastes so soft and fresh. My favorite would have to be the strawberry mochi with the refreshing strawberry fruit inside. The chocolate mochis were amazing too and the chocolate cream that comes with it tasted so light and fresh. I would definitely come back again for their cakes!
Durian cheesecake and matcha mochi are the best here. I had to come back twice all the way from the OC!
Never knew this place existed until the bf recommended that we give this a try after dinner. This is a cute Japanese cafe specializing in not so sweet desserts. My best friend wanted to order a cake with a hand piped message but the cake artist wasn't available. Ambiance was minimalist and clean. We tried a few things - Green Tea Matcha Mochi Balls - This wasn't sweet at all, but I liked it! It was dusted in matcha & you dip it into a creamy matcha and then into the matcha flakes. Such a fun dessert! The snowball mochis are the star of the show with pillowy soft mochi filled with a light custard and fresh fruit. The strawberry and mango are my faves! The Sea Salt Oreo Cake was cute and light with fluffy whip cream and melt in your mouth chiffon cake. There were several things already gone by the time we came, so if you have a favorite, reserve ahead of time or come early!
A must stop in for dessert! So many Asian flavors I don't typically see out at other dessert shops in the area. It was so hard to pick what to get. My husband and I opted to get the mochi for dine in and a black sesame cake to go. All of the desserts are beautifully decorated and the flavors are even more amazing! The mochi was perfectly chewy and the cocoa powder and dipping items made it such a perfect desert after a heavy dinner. We did break into the cake once we got home and it was perfectly moist, bouncy and not too sweet. We really enjoyed the flavor that was never overshadowed by anything, I cannot wait to come back to try another flavor!
Been seeing a lot of great reviews about this place but unfortunately it did not hit the spot for me... These desserts are def on the pricier side. A slice of crepe cake was $12.50 and mochi were $5.50 a piece (or depending how many you buy). Tried strawberry and mango and it had the smallest piece of mango ever. The cream was not sweet at all and really just tasted like whip cream. Overall, service was good. You order at the counter and they will bring your plate to you.
After eating way too much savory food in San Diego, we needed something sweet to balance things out, so we stopped by Yiko Yiko for dessert. The shop is super cute and offers individual cakes that are the perfect size to share... or keep all to yourself--I won't judge! My sister and I shared the mango cake, and it was delicious. The cake was light and fluffy with fresh mangoes layered between whipped cream. I also loved that it wasn't overly sweet. The crunchy waffle cone crumbles on top added a nice texture and made each bite even better. We also wanted to try the mango mochi balls, but we got there later in the evening and someone bought the last order right before we checked out. Talk about bad timing! We ended up trying the matcha mochi balls instead. I'm personally not a matcha fan, so they weren't for me, but if you enjoy matcha, you'll probably like them. My sister was more than happy to finish them for me. Next time I'll definitely come earlier so I can snag the mango mochi before someone else beats me to it! Overall, Yuki Yuki is a cute dessert spot with light, delicious cakes that are the perfect ending to a great meal. I'll definitely be back.
Had a chance to check out Yiko Yiko after hearing lots about it and honestly, I had a feeling that their products would be a on the pricier side. Many reviews have noted this, and I would have to agree, especially for the size (crepe cake slices) and/or simple design (two layer naked cakes). We ended up trying a slice of their taro crepe cake. It was tasty - light, smooth, and included real taro - and had alternating layers of cream and taro; however, we were surprised with how small it was in person (vs photos) for $12.50 before tax. This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. We noticed the crepe cake slice we got had that dusting of ice sparkles, indicating it was frozen and defrosting, and additionally, as it defrosted, the more it started leaning. If you haven't tried Yiko Yiko, it's worth still checking out. That said, I think you'll be satisifed after one or two visits.
This dessert shop is decorated adorably & you can see the pretty desserts on display as you walk in. However, the prices for these desserts are quite high to keep in mind. We got to try the popular matcha mochi balls, which we thought was a bit underwhelming. * Matcha Mochi Balls - 7.6/10 (the texture of the mochi was almost runny-like, which we were not expecting. we prefer mochi that has more bounce and chewiness to it. the mochi itself was sweet, but the matcha flavor was not present despite how it looks covered in the powder. the cream was delicious & we enjoyed dipping it into the crunchy matcha flakes which were very yummy. overall, we are glad we got to try this, but it is more of a one and done deal for us)
This is my first time leaving a review, but not my first visit to Yiko Yiko! It's easily one of my favorite dessert spots in Convoy, especially whenever I'm craving mochi. I always go for the strawberry snowball mochi. I love how it's simple, fresh, and not overly sweet. The combination of the soft mochi and the strawberry is perfect and hits every single time. The service is consistently quick and friendly. The ambiance is also super cute, with decorations and cozy spots to sit and enjoy your treats. I absolutely love this place and will keep coming back!
I've had Yiko Yiko in the past and wanted to get their popular mochi balls again and try some new items! Mango Cream Mochi (3/5): The mochi design is adorable and has a flower on top. The mochi consists of cream and mango filling inside. Upon a bite full of just cream, there only seemed to be little pieces of mango inside. The cream also did not have any sweetness to it, but was a great texture. Overall the mochi needs more mango! Matcha Crepe Cake (3/5): It tasted like it sat out all day so it was dry. Also, we got the matcha flavor, which pronounced this bitter taste, and no sweetness to it since they used the same crème as the mochi. Their mochi balls remain my favorite item as they are so chewy and fresh! Their mochi flour so fresh here so these were great with the dipping cream and crushed cookie bits. Yiko Yiko is definitely a must try dessert stop in Clairemont and could be a great choice if you're looking for smaller portioned desserts. They have cute cake designs that are unique and fit for any occasion! I do wish there were plates for sharing as it was a bit tricky to eat things like the cake slice.
One of my favorite dessert places in SD!! On a Saturday evening, we waited close to 30 minutes in line to order then another 20 minutes for them to make the desserts. Aside from the wait and limited seating, the desserts are sooo cute and fresh tasting! The mochi snowballs were delicious, I liked the mango while my bf liked the strawberry. They are a bit overpriced (~$5.5 for one) though
okay, this review is long overdue. My buddies and I randomly discovered this place while looking for a dessert spot in the local area. Hands down, the best mochi I've ever had! Texture is soft, chewy, and fresh. Not overly sweet either, perfect for that Asian dessert palate :D Tried the mango, strawberry, and oreo snowball mochis. Each one was so incredibly delicious - fruits inside were ripe and oreo flavor was perfection. The dusted mochi balls were equally amazing if peeps aren't fans of cream fillings! Trust, this mochi place does it right! The shop has a handful of tables for people to hang and catch up with friends while snacking on the treats. Friendly service as well :)
Reviews are largely positive. People highlight the soft, chewy mochi, unique cake flavors, friendly staff, and a cute, clean ambiance.

We got the mango mochi, and they really do make it fresh! You get to see into the kitchen, where the staff are assembling everything! The decoration is very cute and comfy, but I would not recommend it as a study spot. As for the item, it was really soft and chewy. The cream inside is light and fluffy, while the aesthetics of the mochi are adorable. Would recommend! read more

I tried the mango mochi snowball (cream filled) as well as the chocolate mini mochi The mango mochi was super light and the cream was very fluffy and not too sweet at all. The mango was a lot smaller than I imagined, but maybe that's because it's not mango season. It was more like a cream mochi to me, but still good. The chocolate mochi was dusted in coco powder so it had more of a coco flavor, I think I'd try a different flavor next time but I loved the mousse you dip it in and the little crunchy flakes add the perfect crunch and sweetness. read more

This is hands-down the best dessert I've had in a long time. As someone who LOVES good texture (and matcha), every bite is a dream. Of the items we got, I can't even pick a favorite because they were all so incredibly yummy and fun to eat. Service was fast and the shop was cute!!! I will be back 1000%. read more

Yiko Yiko is a hidden gem! We came here for the first time after hearing so much about it and we were pleasantly surprised. The interior is quite cute, the decor is nice & the bathroom is clean. It's a smaller sized shop with incredibly kind staff. I ordered a slice of the matcha crepe cake and a snowball (might be the wrong name) mochi to go. I believe my total was $18 before tip. The cake slice was $14 and mochi was $4 and some change with tax. I do feel that the prices are slightly high for a singular piece of cake but maybe there's more to it that I'm unaware of. Overall the cake and mochi were delicious and the service was great! Not an everyday or weekly treat by any means, but definitely a wonderful place to grab a sweet treat from! read more
I stopped by YikoYiko for the first time after a friend's recommendation while celebrating a birthday here in San Diego --- definitely worth the visit! The shop is small but really charming, with an upscale bakery feel that makes you excited to try everything. Watching the bakers in the back was impressiv, they're clearly pros, working efficiently and with care. I also appreciated that the cake came with a little cutter kit, which was super handy and thoughtful. The cake itself was fantastic: moist and tender with just the right amount of sweetness--enough to satisfy but not overpower the flavor. It's exactly the kind of balanced dessert you want for a special occasion. This bakery is definitely a place I'll be coming back to to explore more treats. If you're in San Diego and looking for a quality bakery, YikoYiko deserves a spot on your list! read more

SOOO tasty. The mochi is fluffy, light, addictive, sooo soft. The matcha mochi have a great coating of matcha in addition to the creamy dip and crisps. It's fun but finishes so quick! The mochi with filling can be pricey but highly recommend the durian and matcha. The durian is soooo good, actual fruit in the middle and creamy. read more

We found this place while looking for a dessert that "wasn't too sweet" Items we ordered: 1) Mochi- red bean, mango, and strawberry. Skin was soft and chewy, filled with a light cream and the fruit or bean of choice. 2) soymilk custard cake- soymilk flavor was there, but nothing stood out exactly. It was definitely "not that sweet" 3) the highlight- durian basque cheesecake. The durian flavor was rich in the cheesecake filling. It had a great texture. I'm not a huge durian fan but it was enjoyable. Price point was a bit higher than expected for dessert, about $15 per person, but everything was made fresh and "not too sweet" if that is what you are looking for. Good amount of seating in the quiet lounge area. read more

Very unique cake flavors! I definitely recommend trying the grape matcha cake or sea salt cake! This place filled my mochi craving. I recommend the matcha green tea mochi. All the other flavors were meh what I expected it to taste like favorite - grape matcha cake sea salt cake - so yummy matched so well with biscoff strawberry cake - classic asian strawberry cream cake oreo cake - classic light chocolate cake soy milk cake - tasted like a no flavor vanilla cake Service was good/ no complaints. Ambiance is a good place to hang with friends and family! read more
Got a small cake here for my boyfriend's birthday and the size was perfect for two people! Loved how cute and minimalist the cakes were decorated. I got the sea salt carmel cake per the cashier's recommendation since I couldnt decide between a few flavors. And it was perfect! The flavor was strong but the cake was not too sweet. My boyfriend really enjoyed it as well and ate it all. We also got two mochis the strawberry and mango mochi. The fruit tasted sweet, and the creme inside was fluffy. Did enjoy the cake much more than the mochi, as a person who doesn't eat cake too often. read more

Hi Alberto,…
They offered cakes and filled mochis. We got 4 mochi for $20. The options were strawberry, mango, red bean, durian and oreo. We chose everything but oreo. The mochi was pillowy soft. Each one was filled with cream and the fruit or bean. 10/10. read more
I stumbled upon this place while looking for a new dessert spot to try in San Diego. Since I love mochi, I decided to give it a shot. I came in pretty late at night, so it was quiet and not crowded, but there were plenty of seats available and the staff was really friendly and welcoming. I ordered four snowball mochis (strawberry, mango, cookies & cream, and durian) along with the matcha mochi balls. The cookies & cream snowball mochi wasn't that great, and the strawberry was just okay, but the mango and durian were definitely my favorites! The matcha mochi balls were sooo good. They came with a creamy dip and matcha crunch that complemented each other perfectly. Overall, the mochi was delicious, though a bit on the pricey side. They also have other desserts that looked amazing, so I'll definitely be coming back to try more. Despite the higher price, I'd still highly recommend this place if you're a mochi lover or just want to treat yourself to something unique! read more

I had such high hopes of finally finding that certain strawberry cake from my hubs childhood that he loved so dearly. Unfortunately I have failed again and that strawberry cake still remains an uncatchable unicorn! I looked online to find many different small cakes. I was so excited to see the variety! I visited one afternoon to scope them out in person. It was slightly busy when I arrived but patiently waited because I had a ton of questions to ask. The staff was super friendly and was able to answer everything I wanted to know. The cakes are made fresh daily. They do tend to run out. The bakers are onsite to make them and just in case you're worried they will sell out for the day, you can call in the morning to hold any of the cakes for pick up later. Wonderful! Called early Saturday morning and asked to hold a small Strawberry cake for late afternoon pickup. It was not super busy when we visited so we were able to grab a table easily. The cake was simply decorated. We dug into the cake and to my surprise it was not super moist and quite dry. The cake I was so hoping it would be was not. Hubs still liked it, but it was not that childhood strawberry cake he was looking for. Staff was friendly and helpful. The shop clean and organized. Parking lot was not super crazy. My search for that strawberry cake continues! 2025: 41 read more
Melt in your mouth mochi. Flavor options are: Oreo, red bean, mango, strawberry, and durian. If I had to pick only one to recommend, it'd be the Oreo. Unique filling and, you guessed it, not too sweet. Steep price per piece hence the one star drop. read more
