We went around 1pm on a Saturday and it there was seating space and no line. Glad it's not overcrowded. Aesthetics The aesthics are a trendy style of light wood, minimalism neutrals, and metals accents with the dishware and chairs. The menu is Korean inspired, and reminds me of the trendy cafes in South Korea. They have plants from The Plant Daddies that I really adore. This is the kinda place I'd love to come and journal or work on my laptop Food & Drink What I like is that you can adjust the sweetness of the drinks, you just have to ask. Matcha latte - 25% sweetness, I can actually taste the matcha, which is rare for San Diego. Injeolmi matcha - 50% sweet, I can taste the injeolmi flavor but it's not overpowering so a good balance Sweet rum flavored canele - I've been getting into canele recently so I tried this one. It's a great spot to study or get some work done, and there's plenty of parking in the lot, which is great. The Cakery Cafe is another new place that has organized itself in a suite amongst the industrial warehouses in the Miramar neighborhood. There must be a good deal on the leasing terms as the area has become an incubator for these kinds of fledgling businesses (e.g. bakeries, cafes, dessert shops, etc). Open parking spaces were not an issue as this was not a high traffic district. I was surprised at how many customers were seated when I arrived. The dining area was not huge with assorted stools, benches, and small round tables making up most of the seating. Two four-top tables were the largest accommodations available. On two ledges leading up to the service counter were models (artificial?) of some of the available desserts. More savory and sweet products were on display inside separate glass cases next to the counter. Two menu sheets were spread out in front of the register. The left one listed the six sandwiches and a pastry (Espresso Muffin). The right page showed the coffee and tea offerings. I decided to order a Ham & Cheese sandwich along with a slice of Cookies & Cream cheesecake. Ham, cheese, tomato, lettuce, and mayo were placed in between toasted artisan bread, cut in half, and wrapped in wax paper. It was a little pricey ($13) for the size of the sandwich which tasted okay. The piece of cheesecake was dense. You could see the dark spots of the cookies blended in with the cream to make up the middle of the dessert. The slice was taller rather than longer, but the product was still creamy and filling. The service was friendly and efficient. If it wasn't for the driving distance, then I would come back more frequently to sample other goodies from The Cakery Cafe. read more

The assortment of desserts and drinks here are amazing! Try to go here early in the day because they definitely run out of items quickly. Also, they don't have a lot of seating, so you can either wait for a table or just take it to go. One slice of the black sesame basque cheesecake was $8.50, but it was really filling. It was the perfect balance of flavors, and I love how the black sesame flavor really came through. The yuzu white chocolate financier was so unique, and I like how it wasn't too sweet. I also got the iced earl grey matcha, which is a matcha latte with an earl grey cloud. This was also pretty pricy at $8.25, and then adding oat milk costs an additional $0.50. It was a tasty drink though, and I'd order it again. On a different day, I was in a savory mood and got the Signature Club sandwich ($14.50) which came with turkey, ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato on wheat bread. This sandwich was pretty filling, but my friend's Cakery Grilled Sandwich ($14.50) looked really juicy so I think I'd get that instead next time. The Cakery opened it's own cafe?!!! Their lil shop in Carmel Mountain was already a hit, so I was so excited when I heard they opened a cafe. My favs are the earl grey n white chocolate earl grey madeleines!!! Not overpowering, but such great earl grey flavor. Light but creamy filling and a moist, airy cake. GET THE YUZU CHEESECAKE It was my first time getting their yuzu flavor and the light citrus pairs soooo well with the cheesecake. Quite literally mind blown. Not heavy like other cheesecakes! And how did they make the yuzu taste fresh?! The matchas were on the pricier end, but had great flavor and they perfected their earl grey flavor for their matcha. It's a cute, small, but open cafe. My girlfriend and I decided to try it out on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty busy but still plenty of seating! They had decorative displays of their pastries by the area where you line up and the rest of what they have to offer on the shelf on the front counter. They offer savory sandwiches, madeleines, and cheesecake. We opted to try their sweet pastries and ordered some drinks to go along with it. I ordered the Double Hojicha Latte and I was blown away. I am a big hojicha fan and typically don't see this type of drink offered in cafes so I knew I had to try. The hojicha cream paired with the hojicha latte itself had a very rich, roasted tea flavor that I loved. My girlfriend got the Earl Gray Matcha Latte, which was amazing as well. The Earl Gray cream top wasn't too sweet and had a great flavor to it. You can really taste the quality of the matcha and we were pleasantly surprised with how good both drinks were! With the pastries, I can go on and on about them. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The Dark Rocher Madeleine was my favorite, surprisingly. I was scared it would be too sweet with how much chocolate but they truly nailed the flavor. The chocolate wasn't overpowering and the madeleine itself was very soft and moist. I've been wanting to come to The Cakery for a while now and then I heard that they opened a Cafe version. This location is in an odd spot, sort of surrounded by businesses. The lot is very small and so even though they have some seating it is not a place to stay for a long time. In my opinion! -- Which I don't mind...buy a drink, eat some pastries, and enjoy! Then continue your day. The interior is modern and minimalist. I like the plant they chose to have around the space as it felt very open and bright. The price is a little on the expensive side compared to other bakery spots, but it definitely evens out because the quality is high! The textures, consistency, and taste was all superb which is hard to come by in pastries (like what they offer). We ordered Espresso Basque Cheesecake. I am actually not a cheesecake fan, but always wanted to give these a try. I know of them having no crust and a slightly creamy texture. It's supposed to be lighter than the New York style cheesecakes. Originally, I thought the basque cheesecake slices in the case were small, but after eating I think it's the perfect size or actually quite generous. My brother and I shared one and near the end of it we were slowing down and getting full. This one I think actually had a slight crust and I'm not complaining since I do enjoy the crusts! The basque cheesecake was actually a bit more firm than I thought it would be, but not as firm as the OG style you'd eat. The cheese notes were not super overpowering, slight tang, and the espresso was lightly there. I personally would enjoy more of an espresso oomph especially for $8 slice. But overall, it was not bad! I think next time, I'd try maybe one of their other flavors like Ube, Chocolate (Valrhona), Passionfruit, or Cookies & Cream! I also purchased 2 Cannelé de Bordeaux. These were absolutely DIVINE!! They were $4 each, but mini in comparison to other bakeries that have sold it. Despite the size, the flavor was UNMATCHED!! I've never ate a better tasting cannelé in San Diego! This cannelé reminded me of France. You had that delightful caramelized exterior and the interior was beautifully custardy with specks of vanilla bean and what tasted like a hint of rhum at the end. I could have eaten the entire case if I saved up $$! They also have drinks like coffee, matcha, and hojicha. I think they are more known for their matcha and hojicha. My brother ordered their $8.25, Iced Black Sesame Matcha with Oat Milk (+.50 cents). He said it was flavorful without being overly sweet and the matcha was prominent. Although the size was smaller compared to other matcha locations and lots of ice was given, making the quantity less than other places. Which in the end, he thought the price a little too high for him to make this a place where he comes back to for a drink. And I'm an iced coffee lover, but $6.50 for a vanilla latte is a bit steep. It was our first time at The Cakery so if they had any special deals (like 4 for $ or 6 for $) for the pastries, I think it would be nice to mention to people who might be ordering. Kind of like upselling, but not in a pushy way of course. Something else would be, making the tags a little more clearer as to which pastry it belongs to & with the price. There was a floating sign that mentioned salted caramel and I was almost thinking that they made a salted caramel cannelé lol. But note that they do run out of supply closer to the end of the day. I first visited on a Friday afternoon at 1:30, half an hour before they close but they were sold out of matcha and their earl grey cloud, which is what I came for. So instead, I got their black sesame hojicha, which is a roasted green tea drink similar to matcha. It was a well balanced drink and the black sesame flavor complimented the tea well! I came back on a Saturday morning and got a earl grey matcha and canele pastry. The earl grey cloud was sooo tasty. The matcha itself wasnt too sweet, which was perfect for my taste! It is good quality matcha. I also tried one of their caneles, which had a crispy exterior and soft interior, and a delicious vanilla flavor! It is a bit expensive at $4.50 for a small dessert, but it is so yummy so I think it is worth it. I also tried their espresso cheesecake, it was a very subtle espresso flavor, and again, not too sweet. The slice was small but dense, and again a bit pricey at $9. They do have a nice minimal, classy interior. I love the clean look and their cool plants. There is a sun roof too so a good amount of natural light coming in. I tried the canele and it was really good the outside is crunchy and creamy on the inside, I also had the Vahlrona chocolate cheesecake which is good and dense but I like my cheesecake to be a little soft and runny in the inside but that's just me. I also had their hojicha latte and it was really good, the service was faster than some dessert place. I like this place it's very quiet, the clientele are young and for an old person like me this place is a good place to have a nice conversation or study place. A humble, new café in town. Went on a rainy weekend which was actually perfect. Love its core simplicity with its the modern, sleek aesthetics and quiet, clean space. The details were carefully executed from the seating, dinnerware, and packaging. All their desserts (canelés, financiers, madeleines, Basque cheesecakes) were equally delicate and delectable. My favorites are the canelé and hojicha latte. The canelés were consistently fresh with its crispy exterior but gooey texture in the inside. The owner was also super nice and inviting.
