Flour Atelier is a small bakery right next to the hovering Mitsuwa. I'm a gluten free girly nowadays, but when I could eat their desserts I did love their cheesecake: a balance of cream-to-crust is important to me. And those flavors? Standout. Saturday, 3-28-2026: My son suggested this little bakery, which is another favorite. It's very small but is big on the charm. It's so quaint, feminine, and pristine. There is no indoor seating but there are a few tables out front. It's an interesting concept. Flour meets flowers. The pastries are beautifully done & such a feast not only for your eyes but your palate as well. My dear son treated me to a Tiramisu pastry plus an iced Chagaccino. I saved the rest of the pastry for later since I was still full from my cream puffs. I did try a piece and it was perfection! I chugged down my delicious iced drink as we sat outside. I frequent Mitsuwa Marketplace pretty often and always noticed this café whenever I stopped by. I even had it bookmarked for a while, so I finally decided to check it out in person. It's located in between Ross Dress for Less and Mitsuwa Marketplace in the Hawthorne Crossings plaza in Convoy on Kearny Mesa Rd. There's a huge free parking lot with ample stalls but could be very busy during lunch and maybe dinner hours. I've noticed that lunchtimes are the busiest. I got their Black Sesame Hojicha Latte and Black Sesame Kukki. The drink lacked flavor in my opinion. I didn't get much of a black sesame or hojicha -- it was mostly just milk, which was pretty disappointing. The Black Sesame Kukki, on the other hand, was VERY good. It had a rich, nutty flavor that really brought out the black sesame in a way the drink didn't. If I come back, I'd probably stick to their bakery items. Wow was this place super disappointing! I've tried flour atelier a couple times before and all the items I've gotten were so good. Come to find out there was a change in management, so I can see why this place has declined so badly. The desserts are so pretty but don't let it fool you. I ended up trying the strawberry matcha cheesecake tart, ube cheesecake brownie, ube butter mochi, cookies and cream tres leches and the signature puff pastry. The crust on the strawberry cheesecake tart tasted so doughy and the matcha wasn't well incorporated. The ube cheesecake brownie was overly dense and the flavor was terrible. I wouldn't even call it a brownie or a cheesecake, more like a block of cream cheese. The ube butter mochi was burnt on the bottom and super hard. I mean how can you mess up butter mochi? I was supposed to get a cookies and cream tres leches but the worker accidentally gave me a black sesame tres leches. Thankfully for him, I do like black sesame, but it was grainy and too sweet and lacking a lot of the black sesame flavor. I'm a little sweet treat person. There's nothing I love more than a matcha latte or a little pastry. Flour Atelier is located in the same parking lot as Mitsuwa Marketplace. You know parking can be a doozy, but people are constantly in and out. They have a drink menu with great options including coffees as well as matcha and hojicha. I got a matcha latte with soy milk and it was great. They don't have almond milk as an alternative, but they do offer soy or oat. I was also able to ask for an adjusted sweetness as I prefer a more matcha forward drink. They had a good selection of pastries even though they were close to closing. I got a matcha yuzu cupcake. Torn about this place. I came when they first opened their doors a couple years ago and it was fabulous. But apparently they've changed ownership - and with that, a lot of their iconic flavors went away. Ordered their MATCHA YUZU, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, & TIRAMISUI mini cakes + an UBE TRES LECHES cup. I came to Flour Atelier in search of a mini cake for a friend's birthday and they had exactly what I was looking for! The bakery is dainty, and aesthetic, plus, I've heard many good things from social media. Everything was gorgeous from the cakesickles to their mini cakes. Mini cakes were around $9 and is typically aimed for a single person. They were stocked with desserts on the Saturday I went. They have an impressive beverage menu that features matcha and I had to try one for myself. Their original matcha latte tasted great! It was made carefully and hand-whisked by the worker which was nice. Although I didn't get to try the cake, the one I purchased was a chocolate churro cake and my friend could vouch for it! Overall, I'll continue to come by if I was in need of a smaller cake. Their designs are gorgeous! They focus on the florals and do put that on their cakes as well as sell bouquets on the side. Really adorable Asian style bakery with individual baked goods for sale at standard prices - somewhere between $3-$7 a pastry. Their mini cakes are $20 and seem reasonably priced with adorable designs. Although the inside flavors were more typical vanilla and confetti instead of more Asian cake flavors. They also serve matcha drinks from PARU. We got a couple of egg tarts, matcha white chocolate cookies, and early gray cookies. The egg tarts are smaller and similar but not your standard Cantonese egg tarts, they're sweeter and glazed. Visited this cute bakery during their soft open. Happened to be walking by in the strip mall at the time and Princess Zelda, our American Akita, decided she wanted to walk in and see what was going on. I don't eat a lot of sweets but I love bakeries and I love to buy dessert for the sugar hounds in my life. We strolled in and the display was excellent. Everything looked spectacular! All of the staff were fun and friendly and fell in love with Princess Zelda on the spot. Several people came out of the kitchen/prep area to meet her and they had freshly made doggy treats on hand which Zelda appreciated. I bought several things including chocolate chip cookies which I did eat and from family and friends who ate the other delectables everything was delicious. Such moist cupcakes! A friend brought these to a family party, and we all were just amazed at how good they were. Every single cupcake was super moist, even having been refrigerated (which, I feel, tends to dry them out). I have since gone back a few times, and can say that everything ube that I've had, has been delicious. Favorite is the Ube bell (that ube cream is gooooood), then this ube cupcake with a cream cheese filling and the ube flan cupcake are tied. The Lahaina Love CC, i was expecting a lot more from--dont get me wrong, it was good, I just think the ube items were better. Earl grey CC was also very moist, with a hint of lavender. I gave it a chance, and I'm still not into edible lavender. Just reminds me too much of soap. Today I tried the Calamansi cheesecake for the first time. It was good, but because of how light and fluffy the "cheesecake" part was, it reminded me more of a tart than a cheesecake, it just resembled more of a really stiff cream, vs a denser cheesecake. But, the pastry crust was perfectly flaky, and the overall taste was tart and lightly sweet. The desserts here in general, are never too sweet or rich. I'm one of those people who usually scrape off all the frosting on cakes/cupcakes. But never here! Just keep in mind that this bakery often closes at 3pm, so don't be late! read more

I came here around 1:30pm on a Saturday and there was a sign saying that they were closing early due to being short-staffed at 3pm. So I would just keep that in mind! Strawberry matcha latte - 9/10, your ordinary cafe Matcha, it was good ans the strawberry added a nice sweetness! Early grey cheesecake tart - 9.5/10, I love this because it was not too sweet (perfect asian dessert) and it was delicious. I will say that if you don't like Earl Grey to not get this, it is super strong (which I love!) Service was great as well and they provide bags for your goodies. I grabbed a matcha with black sesame cold foam from here. If I recall correctly, they use Paru Matcha (I need fact check on it). The matcha is very smooth and it isn't too milky. I enjoyed the black sesame cold foam with my drink. In addition to their matcha, they have other coffee-based drinks as well. The matcha price is pretty standard for most shops. In addition, they also offer some high quality floral arrangements and custom cakes for all types of special moments and celebrations. Wifey and I stopped by right before they were closing for the day and managed to snag a Turon Cupcake and a Pandan Guava Pineapple Macaroon. These two items we tried were delicious and a perfect sweet treat after our lunch! Overall, this spot is definitely a gem in the Kearney Mesa area. Got this beautiful yummy spread from @flouratelier.sd Flour Atelier. This is my second time having them and I was not disappointed. Each pastry had strong floral notes but kept the taste light. The earl grey and ube puff pastry were my favorite. Such strong flavors but not overwhelming at all. The puff pastry was flaky and soo good. The tiramisu and strawberry shortcake cupcakes were moist with a little cream filling surprise on the inside. Though the lavender cheese cake bites were not my favorite, I think anyone who likes lavender will adore this! The taste of lavender really punches you in the face. I wish they would be open at more convenient times, but if you're ever free between 10am-3pm you should try it. I must admit that it's pricey at around $6 and more a piece but everyone deserves to treat themselves from time to time read more

I remember when Flour Atelier opened; it seemed like I was getting IG reels about the place every other day. I was intrigued by the beautiful pastries but resolved to wait a bit for the hype to die down. A bit quickly expanded to a whole year, as work got busy, so it felt like fate when I impulsively dropped by Mitsuwa and saw Flour Atelier's gorgeous storefront right next to it. The shop is airy and clean, though quite cramped. It's definitely not a sit-down and study spot. I saw that they served matcha from Paru, in La Jolla. Though I have never been to the actual tea shop myself, I did get to sample their excellent matcha when An's Electronics collaborated with them, so I knew that was what I wanted to get. Though I deliberated over the gorgeous pastries, I ended up just getting the black sesame matcha latte with oat milk. I saw my matcha being hand-whisked and it came out pretty quickly. Though pricy (I think it was literally $8), it was definitely a delicious and well-made drink. I adore black sesame anything, but black sesame beverages have historically been a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes the taste isn't very strong, sometimes the sesame is too oily, but my black sesame matcha had a smooth, strong taste with no grit. The black sesame tasted just like melted black sesame ice cream. My one critique was that the matcha ended up being overpowered by the black sesame cream. I think that next time, I might try the black sesame hojicha. The stronger, roasted tea might hold up better to the flavor. Regardless, I enjoyed my matcha and it held up well the next day. The butter mochi hit the spot!!! A spontaneous decision that lead to some great surprises that made my weekend! I first saw this place on Instagram and have been meaning to check it out. After a grocery run to Mitsuwa, I decided to stop by for my weekend matcha latte. When you step into the store, it immediately smells like butter and sugar, and I was a little hesitant because I don't like things overpoweringly sweet. While the cakes look divine, I'm not a big cake person. So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they had butter mochi!!! I've had amazing butter mochi once before from my Hawaiian friend who bakes, and so I decided to try the ube butter mochi. The mochi was as good as the one my friend made, and it totally hit the spot!! I almost ate the whole thing in one sitting, and had to stop myself to save some for the next day! I also noticed they had a sign that says they serve matcha from PARU!! PERFECT because I've been missing the Paru matcha but don't want to buy a whole tin of matcha!! I'm so glad I decided to stop by that day unplanned!!! The matcha latte was a little too sweet for me, and I like to really taste the grassy matcha so next time I'll ask them for no added sugar. The interesting thing is that after I started eating the butter mochi, the matcha latte no longer tasted too sweet. Which makes sense because the mochi is so sweet, that the matcha no longer tastes as sweet anymore. So the mochi and matcha balance each other out, but I'd rather have as little added sugar in my matcha latte as possible. Flour Atelier feels like a coffee and pastry shop that those in Bridgerton would visit. It is adorable, it is elegant, and everything in between. I'm thrilled that I finally got to experience their drinks and treats after seeing this establishment all over Instagram. My sisters and I decided to order a puff pastry cake for my parents' 43 year wedding anniversary from here, and it came out perfect. Not only was it beautiful, but it also tasted great. It was flaky and light, and the toppings really added to the flavor. When picking up the cake, my sister and I also decided to grab more sweets.
