100% worth the line. This place is divine. Honestly, I think this is my favorite bakery in San Diego. Everything we had was delicious and everything looked amazing. My favorite was the croissant mashed potato thing. Blackberry olive oil cake was also amazing. Brought me back to my childhood going to KFC. I cannot wait to come back and try the cinnamon roll and honey cake. The staff were extremely kind and they had a dog-friendly patio. Don't hesitate to come here! Just be prepared for a line if it's a weekend.

Wow, what beautiful pastries! They have so so many to choose from that it's difficult. They have a large selection of savory pastries too. I tried various sweet pastries and they were all fresh and delicious. The service was friendly and quick. I'd definitely return.

9am Friday, there was a line inside They take your Pastry order first and then anything else you order at the register The seating is inside and outside- i was pretty comfortable while waiting for my sandwich There is street parking and you pay at the meter. The spots are pretty valuable. I saw cars circling constantly looking for a spot. Everything was overall delicious. These are my critiques: The fried chicken one was just a bit salty for the mash potato that sat under the chicken but is otherwise fun to try once. The taco bowl one was also a bit salty for the ground meat used. The strawberry ome was great. I wish the cinnamon roll frosting was thicker, sweeter, and more cream cheese flavor. Great spot for a breakfast brunch. I would totally come back.

Tiramisu Nest Croissant, Sourdough Hot Cross Bun

I've been following their IG for months and was so happy husband brought me here to start off my birthday celebration! Top fav item - Tiramisu Croissant! 12/10 Crispy and flaky pastry with the vanilla bean mascarpone filling and espresso-soaked nilla wafers And the cocoa niba and dusting of cocoa powder! There was also a mini Easter egg nest on top since we went on Easter. What a phenomenal combination! 3 of us shared this one and it was all our favorite. And we could all have gone for more! Chicken Tetrazzini Chef's (chef's special) 11/10 My favorite among the savory croissants! It had leeks & chicken in fondue sauce + roasted red pepper hot sauce on top. It was actually the perfect balance of crispy and the right amount of spicy sauce and I think this this croissant set such a high bar that everything else in the savory menu felt to plain haha. Soy Glazed Short Rib 10/10 Wow!! Definitely was surprised by that whole chunk of short rib right in the middle of the croissant. Was actually cooked perfectly well and had a really lovely flavor! The herby topping was also really delicious and everything went well together. Summer Squash (spring special) 6/10 (summer squash, olive oil, salt, pepper, taleggio cheese sauce, and dill green garlic chimichumi) Honestly was not as much a fan of this one. I think the squash and fillings overall were a little too soggy for my liking. Nice flavors though. Sister in law liked it. English muffin sandwich with turkey 8/10 Swapped out the sausage in the sandwich for turkey to get some lean protein. I think the sausage would have added a lot more depth of flavor because the turkey made it a little plain but it would be lovely with a little bit of hot sauce. Big highlight though was the natural English muffin! So soft! Sourdough hot cross bun 8/10 Lovely flavor here! It had that spiced flavor and the dried fruit inside which was yum. Knocked off points because it was just fine. No wow factor to get it again. Crunch Wrap Supreme Croissant Very creative one! Had a flavorful beef filling and gave all the vibes you expect, but personally not my favorite. Caesar Salad 3/10 Honestly something was a little off here. Not sure if it was the actual lettuce leaves. Most of the bites felt quite bitter.. the grated Parmesan and black garlic dusting on top was lovely though. We had asked for the dressing on the side and dressing itself was quite tasty. So overall probably just the lettuce leaves themselves which were bitter.

Lots to choose from

Never...never...ever...I mean...ever...go to a bakery when you're hungry! Cako and I just finished our walk and I thought since I was on spring break, I'd give myself a treat. Typed in "bakery near me" and Relic popped up. I had never heard of them, so why not? They were really busy! I mean, almost every table inside was full. So not only a bakery but other foods as well. Heard a friendly hello and I'll be right there. Lots to choose from! And some of the choices are unique. When the young man finally came to help me, I had decided.. I'll take a plain croissant, double pain au chocolat, cardamom bun, lemon poppyseed loaf, earl grey pumpkin loaf, banana miso cookie, dark chocolate chip cookie. The croissant was buttery and crispy, so good! Loved the poppyseed loaf. The cardamom bun was delicious. I only tasted pumpkin and maybe a hint of earl grey, so not my favorite. The banana miso was interesting. The double pain was really good! Kind of cakey in the middle. And the dark chocolate cookie was amaaaaaazing! Really loved what I picked! Definitely worth coming to and I can't wait to try breakfast or lunch. Really nice atmosphere and the staff is really friendly. They have outside seating that's dog friendly...although, Cako did not approve because she had to wait in the car. LOL! Street parking only.

This was a great experience. I met my best friends here for lunch and the place was not packed at first. I arrived first at approximately 12p, and there were about 4 parties enjoying pastries, beverages, and/or lunch meals. As soon as I ordered my beverage and food: 1 Hot Matcha drink and 1 Cobb-like Salad, the place started to get packed. The young lady who took my order smiled and was very customer service oriented. There were initially about 7-9 pastries in the case when I arrived, but now there were only 2-3 pastries left. I found a nice half booth and half table right next to the front door and settled in with my order number table card. My besties each arrived and by then the place was packed with a line at the door to order. We all enjoyed our time here. Our lunch food was good. This is a great spot in East Village downtown to enjoy lunch, pastries, and well made beverages.

I was stoked to discover that Relic would be operating a storefront on my vlock block The team is warm, friendly, and patient as each guest marvels o er fhe savory and sweet options in the display case. There is also a menu filled with options we are still working our way through. Current da write is r heir spin on taco bells. Crunchwrap Supreme!!

The pastries are phenomenal! I've never dined in because of the long lines and wait times, but we've picked up pastries several times and have never regretted it. The staff is super kind even if they're swamped. The place looks really great and chic. We live about two blocks from it so it's our go to pasty place.

Was in the downtown San Diego area and needed a quick breakfast before exploring Balboa Park. Stopped by Relic Bakery since I had heard good things. It was honestly so hard to choose because all the pastries looked amazing. We ended up going with the Nutella babka, raspberry lychee rose twist, and the lamb rillette. Lamb rillette was a staff recommendation and ended up being my favorite. Highly recommend asking them to heat it up. The pastry was buttery, flaky, and light, and the lamb was savory and full of flavor. Nutella babka was my second favorite. Rich and chocolatey without being overly sweet, which was a nice surprise. Raspberry lychee rose twist I am usually not a fruit pastry person but gave this a try since it looked so pretty. It was not really for me. It leaned more tart and I did not get much lychee flavor. Highly recommend the bakery overall though!

Pastry in the case.

Hurray finally made it to Relic Bakery's brick and mortar location. The place is new and modern. The bakery also has savory dishes that you can have brought to your table. You stand in the line and choose which pastries you want from the case. If you want any of the savory items from the kitchen or coffee drinks you order them at the register. I got a pan au chocolate (chocolate croissant) to go and a Sausage egg and cheese English muffin. They gave me a table number and brought me water while I waited. When the English muffin arrived its was PERFECT! The egg was so soft and runny, the English muffin was so soft and fluffy, the cheese was nice and melty and the homemade sausage patty was delicious. It comes with a skewer inside to hold it together I suggest you leave it in. I took it out and after the first bite the ingredients started sliding out. I immediately put it back to hold it together, it's much easier to eat that way. I ate the pan au chocolate after lunch and it was still crisp, light and flakey. I think Relic is the best bakery in San Diego. The new space has seating both inside and out and a beautiful open kitchen. Service was very friendly and the baked goods are among the best I've had anywhere. Parking is all on the street, but the metered stalls are free on Sundays and holidays.

We came around 11am on a Saturday & there was a line out the door. Once we got to the front, there was a limited amount of pastries for us to choose from as they were almost out. If you decide to try this bakery, make sure to go early. However, with the pastries that we got to try, we thought they were nothing special. Glad we got the opportunity to try this bakery out, but we would not wait in line & pay as much for this spot again. * Almond Croissant - 7/10 (the almond flavor grew on us a bit as it is not usually our first choice. we enjoyed the frosting on top which added a nice sweetness to the pastry, but we wish it was more evenly distributed. the pastry itself was pretty dense, & we wish it was more airy & crispy) * Jalapeño, Speck, & Cheese Croissant - 6.8/10 (when we did get a bite with the filling, the croissant itself was pretty yummy. it felt like a standard ham & cheese croissant with a couple jalapeños. our complaint is that it does not hurt to add more filling. this pastry was also not as airy as we would like, similar to the almond croissant. it did not have the shiny texture we were looking for, & felt stale) * Apple Butter & Cream Cheese Danish - 6/10 (don't let the picture fool you, the pastry is about the average size, & thinner than expected. the apple butter was very tart & we wish it was a bit sweeter. the cream cheese also did not leave an impact. it is aesthetically pleasing to have the two fillings separated, but i think it would've tasted better together. also with how thin the pastry was, it tasted stale as well)

My husband mentioned that he wanted to take me to Relic Bakery and he's not usually one to try new places so I knew that I would thoroughly enjoy this. We ended up coming on a Friday and had to pace myself because I am definitely one to eat with my eyes. We ended up picking up the five spice sausage roll and the jalapeno, cheddar and speck croissant. Ummm where have these pastries been all my life because they were definitely life altering. The flakiness of the pastries tasted so buttery and delicious, I think about it now as I write my review. The five spice sausage roll packed so much flavor and the sausage isn't some measly little thing, it is girthy! Everyone was so friendly and the cafe itself is really inviting and you can look into the kitchen where the chefs are baking away, it's really cool. I definitely want to come back on the days they do matcha, I bet it would be delicious with the honey cake. Please check them out and try the sausage pastry it is a definite must for me.

Relic Bakery & Kitchen, I've heard so much about you. I saw that it was considered one of the top 10 bakeries in California, so I had to visit. According to its website, the pastries are made with organic flour from Central Milling, local eggs from Hilliker's Ranch Fresh Eggs, organic dairy from Strauss Family Farms, and butter from Normandy, France. The flavors rotate monthly and seasonally, depending on the produce and ingredients available locally. Parking is mostly street parking, which is free on Sundays and holidays. There is also a parking lot diagonally across from the location that was free for a limited time. We arrived on a weekday around 10 AM, and the line was inside the doors. They offer a wide selection of pastries, breads, cakes, cookies, and savory breakfast and lunch options. FOOD: 1. Double Chocolate Croissant (4/5): You can't go wrong with this. Simple. 2. Black Sesame Kouign Amann (5/5): This was all of our favorites due to its unique profile and savory taste. Savory pastry winner! 3. Crunch Wrap Supreme Pastry (4/5): My friend said this is better than Taco Bell! Interesting concept, but I wish it were served warm. 4. Raspberry Lychee Rose Pastry (5/5): This was all of our favorites due to its unique profile and slight fruity taste. Sweet pastry winner! 5. Mexican Milk Pastry (3/5): I would pass; it did not stand out. 6. Cardamom Bun (3/5): I would pass; it did not stand out. Would I come back? Yeah.

Still my go to place when I'm craving something sweet and special. Their cakes may be pricey, but…read morein my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

Also just so everyone is aware they're also liars just to mention & stupid.. she tells us her name is Karen thinking we don't know the owners name lol .. She was at the register at 7:20pm and was extremely rude and dismissive after we placed our order, especially regarding a child's dietary restrictions and health concerns. We politely asked if it would be possible to purchase a small cup of fruit , even just a couple strawberries cut up, because one child in our group cannot have sweets due to very strict dietary restrictions . Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did . The complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service was honestly shocking. It's disappointing to be treated that way at a place we have supported so consistently. This place has been going downhill , management for this place needs to step up .

Flour Atelier is a small bakery right next to the hovering Mitsuwa. They carry two refrigerated sections' worth of original treats and pastries, many with Asian flavors such as their ube leche flan and calamansi cheesecake. I'm a gluten free girly nowadays, but when I could eat their desserts I did love their cheesecake: a balance of cream-to-crust is important to me. And those flavors? Standout. Hard to find many other places. They also have tea and coffee, and my husband and I LOVE their hojicha latte, which boasts a nice earthy-to-sweet ratio. If you want a grounded flavor without getting another coffee, try the hojicha latte! The store itself is quite small, selling sweet treats, drinks, and even flowers through a collaboration with a florist. They have about 4 tables outside -- recommended for small parties, unless you come when it's empty with a group. BIG TIP: Bring your mother or mother-in-law here to impress -- that is, if she likes cute, sweet treats and a tea party vibe! My mom always loves coming here, and bringing the whole family, too Keep up the great work Flour Atelier!

Many reviews have noted this, and I would have to agree, especially for the size (crepe cake slices) and/or simple design (two layer naked cakes). We ended up trying a slice of their taro crepe cake. It was tasty - light, smooth, and included real taro - and had alternating layers of cream and taro; however, we were surprised with how small it was in person (vs photos) for $12.50 before tax. This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. We noticed the crepe cake slice we got had that dusting of ice sparkles, indicating it was frozen and defrosting, and additionally, as it defrosted, the more it started leaning. Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.

5/11/2026 CHOCO CHIP…read morePISTACHIO COOKIE Wow! This was reeeeally good! It was crispy on the outside and slightly chewy on the inside. Lots of chocolate and I think they added toffee in it too. The middle section had pistachio frangipane (or it looked like it) with coarsely chopped pistachios that brought another layer of crunch! Then to top it all off, it had pistachio cream on top of the cookie! I only wish I got another one. CAPPUCCINO It was okay. But love the foam! It was frothy and foamy! PAVLOVA The meringue was a bit too hard and too sweet and the pastry cream was overwhipped. Loved the fresh fig and blueberries though. I was looking forward to eating pavlova and this was very disappointing! KOUIGN AMANN Very buttery and sticky! Crispy on the outside. Every bite was not dry, but chewy. There was this sticky and chewy texture that wasn't unpleasant, yet it wasn't fully flaky like a croissant. But glad it was not dry! The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie! Hinar in downtown is such a beautiful and aesthetic spot. I love their earthy color palette (I want…read morethat paint color in my house lol) and the overall vibe of the cafe. The main seating area is almost always full, but there's more indoor seating in the back through the hallway (where the bathroom is), plus some outdoor seating to the side. The drinks are really good. I always get mine half sweet, and the flavors are consistently great. They also have a ton of cute, picturesque desserts. They're a bit too sweet for my taste, but you can tell a lot of care goes into making them and they're definitely tasty. Parking can be tricky downtown, and it can get busy with lines, but it's totally worth it for the drinks, desserts, and overall ambiance. FYI, they have a new location up north in Scrips Poway, it's cute but slightly different aesthetic (umm more industrial) and is in a strip mall, so, way more parking!
