Inside wall decor. Kinda cool but they need to take care of the plants. Half are fake though.

Fun atmosphere and lots of options on tap. They have great food options, healthy to burger options. I ordered a Beach Bowl with seared tofu in ginger. Sadly there was almost zero ginger taste. The bowl was super good though. Very fresh and a large portion. Could have had some more of the special sauce they put on it but all in all it was super yummy and recommend it for a fresh meal. The service was ok, nothing special from the server, no smiles and straight to business. I did visit the day after July 4th so maybe the workers were tiered. None of the workers seemed to be happy or have energy.

The food was good, staff was good, However the ambiance was ruined when their delivery truck decided to show up during lunch rush and made my whole stomach churn. But I am keeping my food and beer down. It's just a bad way of service when the delivery truck is late. Might come back later but if the truck is here still I am going to be more upset then I already am. I am mostly upset because the truck delivery is also causing a disruption to other businesses around. So do better be better.

Stopped by hungry after kayaking the caves and was greeted at the front by a cardboard cutout of the rock lol. After we sat ourselves, a nice waitress came and gave us menus and some water. Music was blasting and the atmosphere was great! We decided on the yellowfin ahi poke bowl (seared ginger scallion style) and paid a bit extra for the load it up! option, which added seaweed salad, avo, edamame, cucumber, and cabbage salad. It was yummy! The ginger flavor was not too overwhelming, and it really came through in the ahi. We also got the carne asada beach bowl, which unfortunately didn't have as much flavor as we had hoped. The portion size was pretty generous and overall the ingredients seemed fairly fresh. Thanks for filling our bellies!

Atmosphere was laid back and fantastic. Regulars hugging the bartenders and everyone seemed happy to be there. Our server was awesome and attentive. Food was top notch from the beach bowls to the street tacos to the Big Dog. One of our favorite stops in our week in San Diego.

After a great day of activities is in La Jolla, we had a taste for some fish tacos. This place was perfect. The restaurant/bar has a very cool vibe and is very friendly. Having both the fish tacos in the lobster tacos was the right choice. They were perfectly seasoned, a great portion, and so delicious! This is a great place in La Jolla!

The food was pretty good and you could eat outside on the street. The atmosphere was good. There was food for the kids so they were happy. Make sure to park somewhere you won't get a ticket it's heavily enforced. I had the tuna poke was fresh. My wife had tacos and the kids had a hot dog and quesadillas. Bathroom was clean. Would go back Our waitress was friendly.

Love this restaurant! I was introduced to this place by one of my good friends and now I can't stop coming back. Trust me once you try it, you are going to do the same thing! The food is absolutely delicious! You can go wrong with anything on the menu. Whatever you get will be tasty. Some of their foods you can definitely share with another person so get more than one item so you can try more than one thing! I got the grilled salmon bowl with sticky rice and YUM! It was soooo good!! Definitely going to get that again when I go back. Definitely fills you up. They have different specials everyday with food and drinks. Their drinks and foods aren't expensive and reasonably priced. There is also only street parking but I have never struggled or ever had to circle multiple times. I have always found a spot which is great. Parking isn't bad. The service is excellent! The waiters, waitresses and bartenders are wonderful and absolutely nice! Always helpful and always giving great recommendations and always patient with answering questions or helping out small or large parties. The inside is such a vibe. I loved the whole beach vibe since hence they are close to the beach lol. It's really cute inside. They have plenty of seating with tables, booths and bar seating. You can bring your dogs I have seen and I love it. I honestly love this place so much!

Visited Shore Rider in La Jolla 2 months ago and overall had a nice experience, though there were a few areas that could be improved. The grill wasn't working that day, which was a little disappointing, but the rest of the menu made up for it. The fried chicken sandwich was crisp and light, generous size of fish and chips was crunchy and tasty, while the raw selections were fresh, flavorful, and really showcased the quality of their ingredients. The laid-back, beachside atmosphere is perfect for enjoying seafood, but the service could have been more attentive. We were seated outside, and our server spent most of the time inside, so it sometimes felt like a wait to get checked on. A little more attention would have elevated the experience. Still, Shore Rider has a lot going for it with its tasty seafood and great location, and I'd return, especially to try the grilled items once the kitchen is fully up and running

Shrimp taco + carne asada taco
    Alicia J.

The tacos pictured were tasty but very small. I think a heads up from the server would have been helpful, as they are not a typical size. I ate 4 and had the shrimp and carne asada, they were tasty. The churros are really good, they came out hot and the right amount of crunchy. Arrive early to find free street parking. Service was a bit slower but it was a busier warm Sunday afternoon and she was kind. We sat on the patio bar table and it was warm so we moved inside to cool off. Overall, a really nice spot and I would come back to watch a game here.

Decided to pop in around 12 on a Saturday and we were able to get the last two spots at the bar, it was pretty busy! This spot is a perfect distance from the beach with a several different options on their menu. The aperol spritz's were 7/10, a little heavy on the aperol. The ahi tuna poke bowl was fabulous, and a generously large portion for $21. I loved the wonton chips as an addition. Only complaint would be the edamame being pretty cold, otherwise was great and I'd order it again. My boyfriend enjoyed the tacos, the carne being his favorite and the fish being his least favorite. The breading wasn't crunchy and was a bit thick. Unfortunately though the chips were so thick and seemed to be re-fried. I chipped my front tooth on them :( Our bartenders were really nice & friendly while being busy & quick to make our drinks! Great spot with a cute & casual atmosphere.

Conveniently located next to the beach, this restaurant has a great bar selection and tons of food options for filling up after enjoying La Jolla. I came here at noon on a weekday and really enjoyed how quickly my order was taken and brought out. I came here solo, sat at the bar, and enjoyed the games on the TV along with great poke. The fish was fresh and the portions were bigger than needed. The entire spot is decorated on theme with great beauty vibes and organic easy going furniture.

Shorerider sits in a cute, well-lit stretch of La Jolla, surrounded by a lively cluster of restaurants--perfect for a casual evening out. The menu had good variety, and the mezcal-based drink was excellent. Definitely one of the highlights. Tacos were solid, though I wish the salsa had more depth. The chicken quesadilla was also tasty--not overly cheesy, which worked well. Service wasn't bad--understandable given how busy it was--but it did feel a bit stretched at times. One thing to note: even though the place is listed as open till 10 PM, the kitchen stopped taking orders by 9 PM, which was a bit of a letdown. Overall, good food, great drinks, and a lively vibe. A solid 4-star experience--just make sure to get there earlier if you're planning a late dinner!

What are suggested, healthy vegan options (ideally gluten free)?

There are only two options; Buffalo cauliflower minus the blue cheese and Al Pastor Cauliflower Marinated Cauliflower Florets, Chipotle Cream, Pineapple Salsa minus the chipotle cream.

Where's the best bet to park nearby?

Parking can become really frustrating in this area, LOL. Plan to have to drive around a few times! There is a combo of paid and free spaces on the street, just a matter of finding an open one.

The ravioli was the standout of the night, thin pasta with just enough filling for a delightful bite. The bucatini all'amatriciana wasn't quite what I'm accustomed to, the guanciale was ground rather than diced, and the sauce leaned more toward a meat sauce with an oily finish, not really my style, though the pasta itself was cooked well al dente. The steak, on the other hand, was excellent. Cocktails were great, and the staff were attentive throughout. For dessert, the trio was a nice way to sample a few things, though I wish they offered smaller sampler portions instead of full-size pieces. The Basque cheesecake was excellent and the semifreddo was perfect with a nice crust. The chocolate torte was good but couldn't compete with the other two. Overall a strong dinner spot in La Jolla, especially for pasta lovers and sunset views.

For our entrees, we ordered the pistachio pesto pizza, raviolli, and beef ziti. The pizza was my favorite (i love anything pistachio) especially enjoyed the pistachio pesto. I appreciate the thin dough of raviolli and the ziti was good. Overall food was good. Our server's name was Kevin, he was friendly and gave great service.

The place was lively, but luck was on our side: one perfect booth remained for the four of us sweet seekers. We settled in and immediately starting gabbing (versus checking out the menu). George came over to take our order. Without even glancing at the dessert menu (a bold move, I'll admit), I asked for one of each dessert to share--paired, of course, with a couple glasses of Scarpetta Rosé bubbles (okay so I glanced at te wine menu). Priorities . What arrived was equal parts surprise and delight. First, a charming little glass jar filled with lightly whipped crème fraîche and topped with salted caramel--simple, elegant, and absolutely delicious. And then... the "hamburger." Cue the table going completely silent. Naturally, we had questions. Our server walked us through this masterpiece from the bottom up: a golden caramel cake "bun," topped with a chocolate-coated ice cream "patty," a delicate mango gelée "cheese," and even "pickles" made from matcha cake. Finished with a second warm cake layer and a touch of garnish we were too excited to fully catch--because at that point, we were already diving in. The contrast of warm cake, cool ice cream, and rich chocolate was nothing short of fantastic. Playful, unexpected, and genuinely delicious--exactly the kind of dessert experience you hope to stumble upon. Thank you, The Whaling Bar, for the sweet surprises. We'll absolutely be back--next time for martinis, and I've already been told the duck meatballs are not to be missed.

But the food was the absolute star of the show. Literally everything was perfect. For shareable appetizers, we got both the trio and the mezze plate. It was basically hummus flights, with pita triangles and multicolored carrots. All the hummus types were delicious. But a special shout-out to the truffle hummus--it was divine. It was very truffle-y, but it was also very light and creamy. Somehow that's not a combo I expected. Next, I'm already a falafel fan, but good *Lord* their falafel was unreal. Some kind of perfect crispiness on the outside and soft flakiness inside that I've never experienced before in falafel. I asked the server what he'd recommend, and he said beef kebab. I got the beef kebab. He was not wrong. The meat itself was sumptuous. And I just moved from Texas, where every other backyard BBQ has someone smoking their brisket for 18 hours. Watching the chef break down the tuna was so fascinating and having the fisherman there who caught it was a great touch and interesting to talk with him. Dessert was just good. Corn ice cream was nice but nothing special and honestly didn't seem to fit with the tuna theme. All in all, we really enjoyed it. Glancing at the regular menu, I didn't really see anything that excited me except a wagyu burger. But this tuna trip was worth it and enjoyed by all of us.

The first man who greeted us had amazing energy, we were then handed off to our server and she was made aware of us celebrating my birthday. Our waters were never left empty, however that was not due to the server, they do have two people going around ensuring water is refilled at all times. We began with the baguette and chicken skin butter. We loved the warm baguette, so hard to go wrong with warm bread. The chicken skin butter was good nothing amazing, very forward chicken flavor slightly salty but just had to use smaller amounts on the bread. We then ordered our apps which was the onion tart and tuna tare tare. Both came out fairly quickly. The tuna tare tare was wonderful. It had different flavors that paired really well together, We both agreed it was our favorite dish of the night. The onion tart was good as well however it was just very rich and needed to be cut. I wish we had saved our bread to eat it with because it was just so strong on its own. But we were able to finish it. So overall, pretty impressed at this point. Until the mains came out. We got the steak frites and the gnocchi. We began with the steak frites and we tried the sauce and immediately thought it was overly salty. We ordered our steak medium and thought the temperature was on point it was pretty tender but again the sauce was just pretty salty and it was drenched in it so couldn't really enjoy the steak too much, the fries helped a bit with the saltiness. We then tried the gnocchi and I'll preface by saying we both really enjoy gnocchi, however when we tried it we both just gave each other a look. For 35$ we were just really not big fans. The portion looked very little as well so we didn't want to eat too much of it and we even debated to just put up with it and just finish it. We agreed to tell the server though and just eat the steak frites in the meantime before ordering a different main we wanted to try. Well, we finish the entire plate of steak frites and maybe 15-20 mins go by before she checks in on us to ask how it's going. So we inform her we were not fans of the dish and she asks if we want to switch it out and apologizes that she didn't come sooner so we'll give her that, but at that point we ate the whole steak plate and weren't too hungry so she offered us dessert. Now I saw many reviews that people get complimentary mousse for birthdays as expected of most upscale restaurants to offer a little free dessert with a candle for your birthday. I figured it was a great opportunity to make up for the mains not being good and we order the cheesecake. I fully didn't mind to pay for it either, so while waiting our server brought us the check informed us no rush. The gnocchi was removed of course and we were charged the cheesecake which again we didn't mind because we already felt bad sending back the gnocchi. We pay the bill she tells us have a great night and we continue to wait for the dessert. The dessert comes out again maybe 10-15 minutes later, but no candle, so was a little disappointed. Your birthday is just once a year and I feel like you want to be a little picky with where you decide to pick it because it's a special day. So watching other tables get a little candle with their desserts was a little disappointing and our server again was never seen again after handing off the bill. I am pretty emotional so I did tear up a bit because again it was my 30th birthday and I was just sad it didn't go great. Don't mind if the food wasn't that good but I was really hoping the service would be way better. Overall, was not impressed by this place. Weve been to animae and had really amazing food there and thought we would experience the same here. But nope, we drove 30 mins away to la jolla for super mid food and mediocre service. Definitely agree that we just wouldn't come back here again, just not worth the price and service didn't make up for it. I was being generous giving two stars because again the tare tare and bread were both good but again we've had way better in general.
