This place has Big Pretzel energy and I'm here for it. We're no longer your typical PB customers anymore, trading in day-drinking for mid-day lunches with our doggo, toddler, and family in town (and maybe a few drinks, but far less than 15 years ago!). We've been here twice this month with different out-of-town family members and both times our servers (Lynda and Ryan) were on point. Throw in the two managers (woman with dark hair, guy with a fun pink golf polo) were there to assist when we thought it was going to rain. Menu is diverse and something for everyone (or most). Beer and beverage list are great. Ample seating in different areas makes for a great experience. If this was 15 years ago we'd be bellying up to the bar to watch games or chill after a day at the beach. I'm sure it's a great place when the sun goes down. But for now, we're on a different page of the life book and I'm glad there's some reading material here for us to enjoy! read more

The Hideaway in Pacific Beach is the perfect San Diego beach vibe you want in SoCal. It's all open air, the staff is amazing, the bar food is elevated and the cocktails are just enough to have a proper cocktail or a great beer or RBV It's absolutely one of our favorites in PB and we go at least once or twice every time we make it to San Diego. The decor is very cool retro. All the old school stuff you enjoyed back in the day you'll find strewn about in every room. Hideaway at Pacific Beach is a gorgeous spot near the water with an impressive aesthetic--even the bathrooms are beautifully designed. While the Caesar salad was a bit average due to a thin dressing, the truffle fries were excellent, and the bacon egg burrito was a hit. The Hideaway is a large primarily bar/lounge focused restaurant on Mission Boulevard that is located super close to Crystal Pier. It is cute inside and has a cozy bungalow-esque aesthetic. Think a mix of high and low tables, shelves with games, tchotchkes, and books and multiple rooms. A bustling bar scene, tvs galore, and happy customers... what more could you want? They also have a parking lot, but on nice days it will likely be full... the good thing is, if you get a spot in the lot, they'll validate your parking! We came here with another couple early on Saturday night with our early bird (lol) reservation of 5:15. We were seated immediately in a nice & comfortable table/booth. We immediately noticed that the crowd skews young but honestly, that was fine by me, even though most of them would probably consider me an "old." It was packed inside and even this early, the place had a lively and fun atmosphere. Ellie was our lovely and attentive server, and even though she was busy, she did a good job of communicating with our table & she made sure that we were happy with everything!. Thanks, Ellie! The food and drinks were very good! Honestly, the food was way better than I expected based on other reviews I'd read. We had the lobster roll, hideaway burger, all American burger & fried chicken sandwich all with either truffle fries or regular fries. No one opted for a side salad. Oh well. We did start with the tempura cauliflower though, so there's that. Heh. Oh & the drinks! I really enjoyed Hideaway's version of a mai Tai - and they came with a souvenir glass! The drinks are good albeit pricey. So yes, this is a great place for a night out with your friends (or frenemies) because maybe you'll have such a great time here that you just are happy to be alive and in the company of great people. Went for a late dinner and stuck around for the DJ, HIGHLY recommend to skip the long line and cover later at night. Food was decent, definitely a little overpriced but I really enjoyed the lobster roll! The caesar salad and french fries were just ok, fries were a bit soggy. But we don't really go to Hideaway for the food, we go for the drinks and great music! I had a paloma with dinner which was very good. Around 9/10pm they clear out most of the tables for the dance floor and always have an excellent DJ. The crowd is VERY young, but music is great when you just want a place to go dance! read more

Hideaway can get too busy for its own good at times. They appear to be trying their best so that is good. I highly recommend sitting at the bar for eats or drinks or eats & drinks. Bar service is forever top notch. Waitress service can have you pulling out your hair. I've only had waitress service once and most def never will again. The food items are always a hit. I've tried many many items on the menu. My latest was the half chicken. It was delicious!!!! I recommend the mash potatoes side w/veggies. Let me start by saying that I highly recommend Highaway for brunch. My family and I, locals from Escondido, came to Mission Beach for a staycation. We stumbled on this place, and it was a hit. The food, drinks, and service are all amazing. We came here two days in a row for brunch. It has a chill beach vibe with lots of college kids (I'm guessing). The steak and eggs are delicious, and my picky kids devoured their pepperoni pizza. The fact that my kids loved the pizza so much was a hit for my wife and me. I loved their drinks and drink specials. It's a great place to start your day. And you really can't be the location, and they validate parking for 2.5 hours. We came here for a late weekday lunch. The service was great and very attentive. Everyone should get the pretzel. It is so good. They serve it with hot cheese fondue and a really good mustard. It's delicious I had the kale and rotisserie chicken salad. It was really good and huge. You could definitely split this. We also have one of the chicken sandwiches. We got Mac and cheese, but we weren't fans. They were really nice and took the Mac and cheese off the bill without us even asking. The manager also checked in and asked if we wanted anything else. Great spot in PB for dinner before a night out! The food is great as well as the drinks. On the weekends after dinner service ends they convert the main dining area into a dance floor with great music. Overall a fun spot if you grab dinner beforehand and stick around. The best restaurant and bar in PB hands down. I've been living in PB for almost 40 years and have probably tried every restaurant at least once over that time. Hideaway is the latest version located on Garnet and Mission Blvd. Before that it was a decent Mexican food place and before that a seafood restaurant. The current iteration has a great menu and the food is healthy, tasty and reasonably priced. I don't drink but the bar looks impressive and the cocktail menu very interesting. It has pretty decent free parking for a beach restaurant and there's plenty of paid parking just across the street. The Saturday deals including $12 for a Michelada or margarita in a schooner glass were great! My family and I came in for some shareables and drinks on the 4th of July. It was busy, but there were different areas to sit in. We loved the eclectic furniture and vibe. The hostess that was helping us placed us directly in the sun. I asked to please sit out of the sun, and was placed in the sun twice more. Another hostess said we could sit at a booth inside, but the original hostess had us move back to the sun. It almost seemed personal. The manager, Calvin, was very nice and found us a nice shaded area to sit in. Our server, Shae, was very friendly and attentive. Wow!! Such a great place!! The vibe and atmosphere is so fun and all the people there made it better. Off the bat, we somehow came at the perfect time on a weekend night and a huge line formed after us- it's a very very popular place it seems so get a reservation! We walked up hoping to get a seat and all of the hostesses were so kind and accommodating. They got us seated in the bar somehow right away even though they were slammed. The pretzel was chewy soft and had the right flavor. It came with a mustard Sauce and also a cheese sauce overall, I would say give this place a try. Items look good as well. I originally saw this spot on Instagram, and then happen to be across the street from it. I tried the Spicy Pomegranate Margarita which I loved. It was not too sweet at all. I also tired the Passionfruit Margarita which was good but sweeter than the other drink. I thought it was kind of odd there was a significant difference in price between the two cocktails.
