Food: more tapas style than actual meal. Food tastes good and reasonable prices. Plenty vegetarian options. Loved the arancini and halloumi fries. Drinks: alright. Mango lassi was bright but reeked of egg. The 5 o clock in rio was a fav. The mai tai was the least fav. Service: slow. They appear to be very busy and short staffed esp at the bar. They missed a cauliflower entree and the drink took too long to come. They took it off the bill tho (thanku!). Ambience: nice! Pretty. See pictures.

Wifey and I were again in the mood for a speakeasy so we chose Captain's Quarters in PB. We arrived right around opening time and checked in outside and were directed to step in. At check-in we were asked if we were there for Grass Skirt or Captain's Quarters. We'll check out Grass Skirt next time. We were then led through a hidden door and walked into a nautically themed decored room and I loved it. We both started with the Gunwale Old Fashioned. I love a standard Old Fashioned but I also love variations on the classic and this one was delicious. The presentation of the cocktail was sharp and my taste buds appreciated the flavors that shined through. My second cocktail I decided to change things up with a Deep Water. Again the presentation was clean and I liked the flavors this drink had to offer. Wife had a classic Old Fashioned it was yummy as well. As far as food, Captain's Quarters doesn't have an extensive menu but what we had I liked. We ordered the BBQ Pork Belly Bao, the Chicken Aleppo Tacos, and the Za'atar Fried Chicken Nuggets. I enjoyed each of these food items. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Captain's Quarters and will definitely keep this speakeasy in the rotation.

After having food at the Grass Skirt next door we headed over to Captains Quarters. I read reviews and seen pics so was looking forward to it. It was Valentine's Day night so it was loud and crowded which is to be expected I guess for Pac Beach. Still the service was very good and so was my drink. The decor was just as I had imagined and seen in pictures but nothing really pleasantly surprised me there. Long line for the one bathroom and ordered a terrible desert- since we didn't get one at grass skirt: but it was quite bad and not worth m the money. Something that tasted like burnt chocolate and looked like ummmm... well you can check out my pic. Overrated in my opinion, worth checking out on not such a crowded night.

The Captain's Quarters is a great little hidden gem in Pacific Beach that's a must visit. The bars is impressive and amazingly done for those who enjoy a great martini or cocktail this place is it hands down! So do yourself a favor and stop by.

What a fun speakeasy. Small but intimate, which is great for date night. This place is super clean and the service was awesome. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. The pistachio prescription was delicious. This drink was super tasty and just the right amount of alcohol. Thank you Captain's Quarter for your hospitality and fun night. Will definitely be back.

The nautical speakeasy in the back of grass skirt was very fun and cozy. Bigger than I expected. They have the bar decked out for Christmas, which I appreciate. We visited on a Sunday night. The cocktails we tried were delicious. The - Caliprina- savory salsa infused cachaca. Don't be scared. Just try it: - miracle on Grand Ave - mulled wine sour. Very festive. - the CQ dirty Martini - if you love savory, dirty briney martinis you'll enjoy this. They give u the option of what kind of olive you want- your choice are blue cheese, pimiento and pickled. Goood vibes. Great cocktails. Fun decor. Ask Bartender Hoppy For the Cham-Bong !!! The only reason I give 4/5 is because of the host. She was kind of rude. Apparently, You're supposed to exit through a back door, but we weren't told about it until we left through the front door. It would've been helpful to know that from the beginning. Overall, it was fun. Thanks CQ team.

Compared to next door, we enjoyed this spot a lot more. You go through the tile wall at the host stand to get inside. The ambiance was cozy and intimate and we really enjoyed feeling like we were inside a ship. The holiday decor was appropriate for the season and not overdone. Sitting at the bar, the service was prompt and the bartenders had good suggestions for beverages. Our drinks were super delicious and well balanced. Small bites were perfect for 2 people and paired well with our beverages. Also a great one and done spot for the holidays! Glad we came here, it was a cute spot for a night trip to San Diego.

Their drinks are really solid. Some of the best I've had at a speakeasy. But they changed their menu!! And got rid of my favorite drink (bright shiny morning)! Boo. It's okay though, they have many other tasty cocktails. Some good ones from their holiday menu too. If you like mint chocolate, highly recommend the Winter Fog. Maybe because of the classier holiday theme -- they turned down the music volume. So I'm a happier camper from that front. Vibes were on-point this time, which was a relief since we brought first-timers. Favorite cocktails thus far: Sunny in Singapore, Caliprina, & The Bramble -- the clarified cocktails are really easy to drink.

One of my favorite speakeasies in SD, thanks to the creative themed decor and always lively bartenders. BF and I came on the last night of the Haunted Ship Halloween-themed event, and found CQ decked out in stellar Pirates of the Caribbean style. The bay and portal windows with nautical scenery, as well as the rest of the design from vintage wallpaper to copious tentacles, make you feel transported into a sea faring galleon filled with grog and scalliwags galore. The spooky, sinisterly shifting paintings on the left hand wall evoke the Haunted Mansion, and tonight there were so many wonderful Halloween details from animatronic ghost pirates to skeletal parrots and, of course, an on theme special drink menu. We chose two rum-centric libations--the pandan-spiked Spooky Island and the Thai tea-infused, desserty Basic Witch. Both were nuanced, flavorful and perfect treats after a big meal at Costa Brava. This joint is extra fun as you can cross the kitchen on your way out and check out Grass Skirt, an entirely different speakeasy that shares the same building.

Came to Captain's Quarters over the weekend and I was very impressed. The entrance and ambiance was awesome, mimicking a ship or as you guessed a captains quarters. Tony was our bartender for the night, and he was super friendly and made excellent drinks. We ordered the following: * Island Bird (8/10) which was tequila based and had strawberry and lime. Super refreshing and easy to drink, also had tajin on the rim of the glass. * Gunwale Old Fashion (8.5) you'd be surprised how many places mess this drink up, but CQs delivered and it was delicious. * Captain's Cold Brew (9/10) hands down the best drink of the night. I could probably knock back five of these but then I wouldn't be able to sleep or drive. The cream they use sets this apart from your traditional espresso martini. We also ordered fried pickles which were delicious. Overall a great experience and price point for cocktails. Would I go again? Absolutely!

Loved this speakeasy! What drew me to this location was the design and interior of the place. Using the screens to mirror windows of the ship was unique. The servers were super knowledgeable about the drinks and very chill, one wore a dinosaur suit and gave us mini dinosaurs. I'd say the music and vibe is definitely more of a college vibe. I'm not much of a drink connoisseur, but just enjoy sweeter drinks Sum Aloha: One of the sweeter drinks on the menu with gin Island Bird: More spicy and I enjoy the Tajin rim

Celia is fantastic! Made our night so memorable! She was kind immediately off the bat! She made us fantastic drinks and was so charismatic! She made the experience for us so wonderful and the atmosphere with her was 100% the ambiance with her was 10/10!! Could not recommend her more! She is so understanding and genuinely wants to make your experience wonderful!

This speakeasy is perfect for girls night! It is absolutely stunning inside and we loved everything about it. The menu has a lot of different options for cocktails and they were able to make custom drinks as well. I ordered a lychee martini and the bartender asked me questions to see how exactly I wanted it. He ended up making it with a little bit of vanilla spice which I loved. It was so unique! The service is great. The decor is great. I would definitely come back here.

Ask the Community - Captain's Quarters

    Where can I park?

There is a parking lot. Depending on the hours you may have to pay for parking. Everything I have visited I was able to park for free.

Is this somewhere I can take my 7 and 11yo for early dinner (5 or 6pm)?

No, it's a lounge/adult vibe. There were no children on sight.

What is the 5% surcharge for?

Supposedly to cover the wage hike that happened in 2019. At this point it's just a cash grab.

As soon as you walk in you're greeted by the friendly bar tender, and are instructed to take a seat anywhere you'd like. The menu is available via QR code, and you order both your food and drinks at the bar. At the time we came in there weren't many people, but a crowd started gathering after about 30 minutes or so, which was nice! Our food came out - with a decent amount of wait time - and it looked great! We ordered a couple of cocktails from the menu as well, which we got right away. I had gotten something similar to an Espresso Martini, but the drink fell short in both the taste and the presentation. My beer battered fish tacos were good, but nothing extraordinary. I believed they lacked a bit of taste...perhaps seasoning? The jam burger on the other hand, extremely juicy and flavorful! The fries were nice and crispy & seasoned. Overall, the food and drink were a bit inconsistent, but it may also very well be the items I ordered. For that, I'm docking it one star, but again it may come down to my taste buds and previous items I've had from other grills. I'd definitely give it a try, again, and keep exploring their menu.
