Bunny cocktail and a twist on the old fashioned (with aperol) ... can't remember the exact names on the menu :/
Sophia M.

Really great drinks especially for the happy hour prices. They weren't diluted - you can actually taste the alcohol. I especially loved this carrot juice coconut mezcal cocktail. Very tropical. Like a cross between a pina colada and a mai tai. Our server Morgan was wonderful and gave great suggestions. My only critique is the atmosphere/ambiance. It's a bit stiff and not cozy - it almost feels a bit unfinished with the decor/art. Still would come back to try more of their great cocktails!

Bottomless Mimosas

Bar Ella in PB is a great low-key spot for brunch. I got the simple breakfast--eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast--and it totally hit the spot. I loved sitting near the open garage door and people watching along Garnet Avenue. The real MVP? Bottomless mimosas for $16!! Our server kept them coming without us even asking, which made the whole vibe super relaxed and easy. Cute place, good food, great drinks--definitely worth checking out if you're in the area for a weekend brunch.

Came here after the Santa run! Super busy but the server who came to our table was so friendly and made sure to check up on our table multiple times. It's located in a really nice area of PB and their holiday menu looked very enticing! They also have $6 espresso martini!

House Chips with French onion crème fraîche dip + caviar bump
Sarah P.

Perfect detail--that actually makes it sound way better. Here's the updated version, still natural: Tried bar Ella in PB and it was actually really cute. We got a hoagie with fries, chips with dip (topped with caviar), and espresso martinis. The hoagie was fresh and filling, bread was soft, and everything tasted really balanced. Fries were crispy, and the dip with the caviar on top was honestly so good... a little extra but worth it. Drinks were strong and well made. The espresso martini was smooth and not too sweet, which I liked. Service was good, everyone was friendly and checked in without being annoying. The ambiance is probably my favorite part though. It's super clean, modern, and a little elevated but still relaxed. It feels like a nicer PB spot without being too much, like you can dress up a little or just come casual and still fit in. Overall just a really solid spot for drinks and light food. I'd definitely go back.

Bar Ella is the new old Bubs on Garnet. We stepped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon after a nice walk on the beach. The place is large, and very modern, especially compared to before. The staff was very friendly and attentive. All dishes are served on these cute antique plates. Fun to appreciate the wide variety of plates. We started off with the: Deviled eggs- with turmeric and pickled beet - delicious! Roasted carrots with whipped feta cheese- surprisingly good! Sliders with caramelized onions- so good! And, finished with the crabcakes- my least favorite but still good. Every dish was delicious and unique. We truly enjoyed eating at Bar Ella. We will come back.

Absolutely love this place, Taylor was amazing! I've been here a few times but Taylor made my day- went for brunch, and she recommended the biscuit gravy which was awesome, and I got bottomless which is always great. Great Saturday vibe, thank you again Taylor!

Stopped in with some girlfriends while visiting PB and I'm so glad we did! We were drawn to this place after looking at the menu and seeing they had a girl dinner consisting of a Caesar salad with fries, with an option to add on a martini. I'm more of an Aperol spritz lover so i opted for that instead. I added grilled chicken to my salad and appreciated that it was freshly grilled and not the frozen kind. Upon arriving we learned that on Thursday nights they host live comedy, so we enjoyed some stand up while we ate. Service was great and quick, even with it being a packed house. Such a cool spot!

Think bar and restaurant type of place. We got a couple of dishes to split among us and overall everything was good. The pickled deviled eggs (3.5/5) were all right. I'm not a big fan of pickled things so considering that it was still good lol. Steak bites were good (3.5/5) too and cooked perfectly. It doesn't look like a lot but we were able to split it among 4 people. Lastly the bar Ella burger (4/5) was probably my favorite. Shoutout to the kitchen for cutting the burger in 4 for us!! I also for the fire island (3/5) but that was just all right. Not as sweet as I expected.

Solid place for a drink! This place is cute, especially compared to the old business that used to be here. Margarita ($12) was good and service was great at the bar! Ended up coming here because the surrounding bars were packed/had lines during St. Patty's weekend. This was a lot less busy, but still had a handful of people, which we enjoyed so we can actually have a place to sit and hear each other. No complaints at Bar Ella! Will hopefully try the food here soon.

Mocktail and smokeshow
Dung N.

I came here for happy hour and notice how pretty the space is. Hubby got the smoke show and I opted for a mocktail. The drinks were yummy and refreshing! He ordered another one! We shared the arancini, scallops, and a hoagie. Everything was great and we also saved room for dessert. We decided on the chilled affogato, which was served with nitro coldbrew coffee. It was delicious!

Morgan was a great waitress- awesome service and super yummy sliders and espresso martini

Hosted birthday celebration

Hosted my birthday celebration here this past weekend, and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all the attention to detail Krista put into making the day so special. The customized menu was such a thoughtful touch, and she even helped put together my balloon decorations. We loved being able to bring in our own decor and cake to celebrate and everything went so smoothly! The food and drinks were great, and our server, Morgan, did an amazing job taking care of our large party throughout the night. She was so sweet and attentive the entire time. A huge thank you to Krista and the entire staff at Bar Ella for helping make my night so special. 10/10 would absolutely recommend hosting your celebrations here!

Charcuterie spread

Celebrated my baby shower here and it was absolutely perfect. Krista and Meg made everything come together so seamlessly from the food to the ambiance. The staff was so accommodating, and having a kid-friendly environment made it much easier for friends and family to attend. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

The cocktails, service and food is all really solid but my favorite thing is the old school feel of the design. It's dark, warm and has a nostalgic Rat Pack vibe. We love the black and white photos throughout. Nothing better than meatball Mondays when they serve insanely good meatballs and homemade Bucatini pasta (pic 12). What better to accompany that deliciousness than some signature cocktails. Some of the fam loved the "Fields of Italy." (Pic 3) It's a fresh, crispy champagne cocktail made with vodka, Aperol, St. Germain, strawberry/basil jam, lemon and prosecco. It was perfect for a summer day. I had one of my favs that has been on the menu for a while now called "Party with Elvis." (Pic 5) It starts out like a boss with walnut-infused bourbon, Montenegro (Italian Amaro), tiki bitters, orange bitters and an orange garnish. It's exceptional!!! The last cocktail in the rotation was a traditional Manhattan that always goes perfect with a plate of Italian love (pic 13). It's always classic and the Moe's staff captures it perfectly with Basil Hayden bourbon, Antica sweet vermouth and angostura bitters. If you haven't been to Moe's, you should make the effort because they never disappoint. It's easy to find bright, fancy joints throughout San Diego, but they're an elevated old school gem that's hard to find. You walk downstairs and suddenly feel like you've been transported into a bar inside a funky 70s van. Such a cool concept and completely different vibe from the rooftop. The kicker was how terrible the service was. - our waitress had a lot of attitude in the beginning, rolling her eyes and not being responsive, and rarely checked on us after taking our food orders - entrees came a long time before apps, and dinner was served without silverware - entrees were placed at the corner of the table instead of served to each individual person, and while moving our plates food spilled everywhere and no one cleaned it up - no water refills. When we did ask for water, the waitress brought us the carafe and immediately walked away even though all of our cups were empty/needed filling - our empty plates stayed on our table for an hour and only got cleaned up when we asked - someone said they would be right back to come wipe the dirty table after they took our plates, and never came back - it was a birthday outing and they did comp our dessert, but it didn't come with a candle or anything. They brought 1 spoon and no sharing plates, even though there were 3 of us. When we asked for extra spoons they brought out packaged plastic utensils ??? - a lot of young and rowdy patrons, just to keep in mind the ambiance Genuinely shocking experience. Please do better!

They apparently have happy hour all day on Sundays. I tried the peach mocktail and it was very yummy, so I appreciated the $5 off. For dinner, I ordered the branzino (the one on the menu and not the special). I was told while the one on the normal menu was $47, the special was $55 and the only difference between the two was the special would be lit on fire table side. I didn't feel the flames were necessary, so I skipped that. (However, the special did mention a sauce that I'm not sure was actually on the regular one, so I don't actually know.) A few minutes before the food came out, they asked if we wanted it all together or if it would be ok for my husband and our friends food to come out first since they were still finishing my fish. I said to just bring it out when it was ready, however they ended up bringing it out together anyway. The confusing part though, all of our meals weren't served warm? You'd think if they were waiting on mine to be done it would have been at least warm? It wasn't. The branzio was very plainly seasoned, tasted heavily of oil and was also somewhat dry? I got it with the whipped sweet potatoes, which was very creamy, which was unlike any way I've ever had sweet potatoes before, but they didn't taste particularly good? We each tried them and none of us could figure out what it was like, but we all agreed we didn't enjoy them. My husband got the arrecherea, it was fine, but also cold. The fries it came with was probably the best part, they were crispy even while being cold. Our friend got the stuffed Mediterranean Stuffed Pepper, his meal also wasn't warm, and he said some of the rice wasn't cooked all the way and it was hard. We also got the Puccia Bread & Spreads after seeing positive reviews. I normally love feta cheese, but the feta dip was kind of sweet? Same with the eggplant. The only spread that was good was the butter. Personally, I thought the bread was fine? But it was almost a bit doughy. Overall, we weren't very impressed with the meal. It had a lot of potential, but the food just didn't hit the mark.

The seafood was incredibly fresh and perfectly seasoned. I actually stumbled upon this place by accident after I first stopped at Ms. B's Coco Shop down the block, but they had closed their kitchen a little earlier than I expected. Shaq recommended I give this place a try and even walked me over to introduce me to Ben. Ben gave outstanding seafood recommendations, was incredibly friendly, and knew the menu inside and out. I was already leaning toward what I ordered, and he reassured me I was making a great choice. His knowledge of the menu and genuine hospitality made the experience even better. The lobster and shrimp roll was hands down the best I've had in years. The mahi slider was just as impressive--perfectly seasoned, lightly breaded, and fried to perfection without the excessive batter that so many places use. Every bite let the fresh fish shine through. The atmosphere was exactly what you'd want from a beach bar--laid-back, welcoming, and fun. It felt like the kind of place where you could spend the day at the beach, walk over for a drink and some amazing food, and just relax. The entertainment setup was impressive too, with huge TVs and a really cool in-wall fireplace-style display. I can only imagine this place is the spot to be on game day. Overall, this is now at the top of my list whenever I'm craving seafood in San Diego. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town.
