Moe's in Mission Beach is a must when you're in San Diego. What we love most is they're an elevated steakhouse but are a true neighborhood joint. Their locals are both actually local but also have many out of town regulars like us since so many travel to enjoy the amazingness of San Diego. We try to stay as close to Moe's as we can when we visit because they're in the perfect spot at the edge of Mission and the start of Pacific Beach where all the fun is. The food and cocktails are as good as the service. It's easy to chat up a new friend at the bar because their San Diego happiness is contagious. There were a number of new recipes on the cocktail menu this trip. They had me at "Party With Elvis." Although I was drawn to the fun name, the walnut-infused bourbon was too enticing to pass up, especially because they paired it with Montenegro (Amaro) and sweet vermouth. First course garlic knots we were not impressed with those, nothing too special just regular garlic knots & not good ones. Caesar's salad was amaaaaaazingggg very fresh & fishy tasting topped w dried prosciutto of some sort. Wagyu was very good, very rich a bit over salted but over all a nice dish. Oh my god I am so sorry but this was the worst food I've had in a long time. The tuna crudo had the weirdest tasting spicy ?plum? sauce and prosciutto to try to complement it? There has been a steakhouse in this location since the 1950s however this Moe's version has been open since 2022. It's a classic old school steakhouse but to me it feels more like a bar that serves food vs a steakhouse. Our server was very polite and was probably the highlight of the meal to be honest. The food itself was just OK but I really did like the ambience and it was definitely a lively and very loud place to have dinner. Parking is very difficult in this part of town, we were lucky to find a street spot a few blocks away, however, you may have to walk some blocks so be prepared for that. Inside is pretty small and darkly lit and the first thing you'll notice when you enter is the giant bar. There are tables next to that and in the back. We sat near the bar so it was extremely loud during our meal. We could hardly hear each other at the table, although it was nice to hear everyone having a good time. I started off with a French Onion Soup, which was actually very nice. It was a bit too salty but the broiled cheese on top made up for it, and I would say it was my favorite dish of the night. After that, I followed up with the Filet Mignon and thought it was just OK. It was a bit dry and lacked any sort of seasoning and just didn't have a lot of flavor. It was not bad but far from what some of the other steakhouses in San Diego would serve. Overall Moe's would be a nice option for a date if you live close by, but I would not suggest to people driving far or to those visiting San Diego. There are better options around town. read more

Took my family here and had an amazing experience from start to finish. We loved the atmosphere, and Gaza was such an attentive and welcoming server--truly made us feel taken care of. The entire staff was incredibly friendly, and the bartender made the perfect Ranch Water. We ordered the New York Strip with mashed potato purée and J1 sauce, and it was absolutely top-tier in both flavor and preparation. My family also tried the charcuterie board and loved it so much. I would most definitely come back our server decanted our wine upon arrival. We had a Negroni and a smoked old-fashioned. Both perfect. At the recommendation of the server, we had the Hamachi appetizer which was a special. It was absolutely incredible with a little bit of Chicharron and a light citrus cream sauce. ***happy hour review*** I've been wanting to check out happy hour or "Social Hour" .as they call it, at Moe's for a while. First off, I like the ambience, I enjoy the dark/red steakhouse vibes. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly and flavors were on point The cacio e pepe is just unmatched by any other place I've tried at in SD. Definitely a reason we keep coming back. Hubby planned a date night at Moe's. The restaurant has a dine in side while the other side is more of a casual bar type setting. We had reservations for the restaurant side. Our server was super nice and attentive. Hubby had the dirty martini while I had the espresso martini. There are only a few places that actually make an espresso martini really good and this is one of them. I went for the lobster pasta while hubby had the duck , both dishes I would highly recommend . We tried the mushroom dish for our sides it was just ok. (Wouldn't order again) We also ordered a side of mac & cheese which was so delicious (definitely order again) Moe's is a great place for a date night or you can swing by the other side for drinks if you want a lowkey vibe type of night. Definitely not a very well made drink. Average at best. Our server seemed sweet but the service was very rushed and we didn't see her much through our dinner. We had the wedge and French onion soup to start. Both were ok. For dinner we had the short rib and a baked potato. The short rib had potential to be incredible. The meat was cooked perfectly but the risotto was so overly salted it was basically inedible. Whoever was on risotto needs to taste it before sending it out. Moe's is in a lively beachside area. It is dimly lit with a big bar that attracts much of its attention. It qualifies as a steakhouse but is not up to par with other steakhouses as far as quality steaks. I did like their Focaccia bread which is stuffed with cheese and dazzled with homemade tomato sauce. The Focaccia bread was almost like a pizza. The crab cakes we ordered were just meh. Furthermore, I ordered a rare 18oz bone in USDA prime ribeye which came out as a disappointment. I didn't even come out rare. It was more on the medium side. Also, the quality of their "prime" steak was not there. The service and atmosphere is awesome but if you want a good steak, you might want to go elsewhere. read more

We had a res for 530pm on a Saturday, arrived 10 minutes early and were seated right away in the patio (husband's suggestion). The hosts were aloof. Our table for 2 was tight, we asked for inside seating but were told there was nothing available, not a problem. Had I made the res, we would have been inside because - flies. Our server Nick showed up quickly with great recommendations and was very patient as my date perused the drink menu (even though he's been looking at it online since he made the res a week prior). Drinks: Chardonnay - Daou, Paso Robles x2 Old Fashion Starter - Lemon Pepper Calamari, this was phenomenal! I am not a huge fan of calamari - this was the best by far. With arugula, Parmesan, tomatoes & a squeeze of lemon! Chef's kiss! Entrees: Me: 15 oz. Boneless Rib-eye (medium, don't come for me) with caramelized onions on top. I think the onions gave a little sweet flavor which was fine, next time I'll opt for the Matrie d' Butter. 5 oz. went home. Hubs: Pan roasted, Alaskan Halibut, well there was not a crumb in sight after 10-15 minutes. Needless to say he absolutely enjoyed that. Side: Potato Puree - beautiful, smooth, GARLICKY, perfection. Black Truffle Mac & Cheese - hands down, the best truffle mac I've ever had. So much truffle flavor, I didn't want to share . Dessert: BUTTER CAKE - Do not skip! We had to take it to go because I was so full. I didn't get to experience the gelato in its perfection but it still gave the creaminess alongside the berries. Worth every bite! Our bill was $233, roughly the same amount we've paid at other steak joints around the city. They have both indoor and outdoor seating shared with Molly's; the sister company next door, which serves brunch and coffee. The price point could be as low as 13 dollars for a side/Appétizer. Or high as 90 dollars for their main entre. The food wait time was about 20 minutes before they were served. The portion is small than expected. Don't expect any breadsticks. However, I was expecting more flavors than portions. I would find the whole experience disappointing. The food was on the very salty side, but still with good flavoring. The service was medicore with a lack of attention from our server. For the price point and previous reviews, I was expecting excellent service and food. But I didn't get from neither categories. It was a dismal. Medicore at its best. I just could give this place a 5 star rating but it only earned itself a 3.4 out of 5. read more

With all of the respect in the world, I do not understand how this restaurant has so many good reviews. For starters, you should not be seating 2 people who make a reservation for inside only outside at a 6 person table, this alone would make anyone incredibly upset. At least there were heaters, I was willing to let this slide because it's a busy night. There was also some odd music choices for Valentine's Day. Now here is where things get a little dicey. Service was okay but it is completely unacceptable to receive dinner with no utensils. We waited for 5 minutes for utensils after flagging down our server. No one who brought the meals thought hey maybe they need utensils.... Nope. My fiancés steak that he ordered medium rare came out medium well. For a place with so many good reviews, you'd think they know how to cook a steak. After we had notified our server we didn't really like our food, it was not cleared off and we just got to stare at it for 10 minutes. The fact that the manager didn't offer to "make it right" or check back in with us after the new steak was brought out was also extremely unprofessional for a place that's charging $50-$60 a steak. Also a note for anyone coming here, the steaks tasted like they were burnt even though they were cooked appropriately. The seasoning they use chars very easily and it overwhelms the meat, it felt like I was eating steak cooked over a campfire. Not at all an experience worth these prices. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. I hope they take some of this feedback to improve because there is potential here, just completely lost with multiple bad instances happening all at once. read more

But nice portion. Bar staff was attentive but not friendly. Husband ordered the focaccia bread, asked if he could get some meat topping. Answer no! I decided to get bone in ribeye the photos here of their steaks are phenomenal! I wish I had taken a pic. The one I got was super small and dry. Had a great smokiness to it - smell and flavor - but the steak had a freeze dried consistency. I'm a big eater and I passed! As for the meatballs- bland! There is some sort of jelly rolled into the meat. Whatever it is there is no flavor! The kitchen is fast and attentive but the food . Our bill was over $250 for two drinks each, steak was $95. Tonight 8/21/2025 we had a fantastic dinner at Moe's! The food was incredible. We both got the duck and we are happy we did. We've eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world including Michelin star restaurants and this was up there with the best duck we've ever had. Very nice portion and cooked to perfection. We ordered two mocktails and they were great. We had exceptional service, our server's name was Alexa. The manager was very kind and accommodating.
