The sushi here was really good and everything tasted fresh. One thing I really appreciated was that they let us order a chicken teriyaki bowl even though lunch was already over. Instead of saying no, they just charged us for the kids' teriyaki bowl and served it in a full-size bowl for only $10, which was a nice surprise. The only downsides were the service and the drinks. It was really busy, so everything took quite a while, and our appetizers didn't come out until after our main food had already been served. Not the end of the world, just a little odd. The cocktails also left a bit to be desired since they were much stronger than they were balanced. Overall though, the quality of the food made up for it. Location is amazing with great views, right by the Mission Beach boardwalk and Belmont Park. We came around 6 PM on Sunday as a party of two. We would've sat at a table, but none were available, so we grabbed seats at the bar. Our first round came out quickly, but after that, the service disappeared. Despite several attempts to make eye contact and the increasingly obvious yearning look on my face, no one checked on us again. We spent next 25 minutes slowly finishing our bottle of sake before I basically got up and moved my body like an inflatable ad to get his attention to closed the tab. Maybe the bartender assumed we were only there for drinks, but bro...talk to me. We would've ordered food and probably another round if someone had simply checked in. Cannonball is a super conveniently located restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building right off the strand in Belmont Park, does offer pretty cool outdoor seating featuring a bar that overlooks the beach. Music wasn't too loud and could be a cool spot for sunset in the evening. During the daytime however the service was pretty slow, took about 25 minutes to get food (two sushi rolls and a sandwich) during early afternoon hours despite the restaurant being only half filled. I don't know if this was because my order was a to go order but I felt that this took longer than it should have. Tried to pork katsu sandwich, tiger roll and dragons breath roll. This restaurant gets a nod for the creativity of the items and flavors selected across the board. The sandwich was the standout of this group despite the sour dough bread getting soggy midway through. Not the best place for sushi at this price point but it wasn't bad either. Almost every seat in this restaurant has an ocean view which is really nice! They have a fair selection of sushi rolls and other options Pursuit as well. We also ordered the Lobster Dip along with lobster roll and enguefo roll. Our server was very tentative to check on us and refill our drinks. Overall I've had pretty consistently good experiences. This has been one of my go to spots for the past few years, especially for sunset, live music, and that easy beach atmosphere that just makes you want to linger. Service has always been attentive. This is a rooftop restaurant right on the boardwalk. It is completely outdoors but with lots of shades. Majority of seatings has a good view of the sunset. The menu is limited. Service was good. Nice restaurant on the second floor of a building adjacent to Belmont Park. It has lovely views of the Pacific Ocean (which is the best spot for small groups). I came here in a party of 5 and enjoyed the fireplace, sunset views of the ocean, and dishes. Service was friendly - but I would expect a wait during peak dining hours. My Asian salad with grilled chicken was good but the portions were ridiculously large (would recommend asking for a "takeout" box). My colleague liked the chicken karage - a great pick. Reasons for the five stars, for me, it's more about the food and if the rest is good enough, I'm good too. One thing I did have an issue with is how long it took to get some water and a waiter at the table but besides that the service was good as well. I was expecting it to be a little nicer than it was. Beautiful restaurant right on the beach for an extremely fair price. I've paid way more for less. Got the sushi boat which I believe came with 12(?) uniquely crafted pieces of sushi by the chef. The poke nachos were AMAZING. the pickled peppers and mango pair beautifully with the tuna poke. 10/10 recommend these. The red dragon and tokyo nights roll were absolutely divine. The tokyo nights i liked slightly more just because im not the biggest fan of cream cheese in my rolls (red dragon has cream cheese) but I still thoroughly enjoyed the red dragon as well. We found it alil dirty but I guess the busers are trying to turn the table fast and are just wiping the food debris wherever( mostly on the chairs) Their cans of Mich Ultra were $11 each (we had 4) so the bill was quite a bit higher. Went here for an early dinner with friends that happened to fall right during happy hour- woo! We ordered a bunch of bites and small rolls (too many to even list), but everything hit the spot. I had an enjoyable time spending happy hour at Cannonball! This restaurant was open when I lived in Mission Beach, but I just never had the chance to go. We decided to go for happy hour and share a couple of drinks and appetizers. First of all, our waitress was so nice and present even though we were only ordering from the happy hour menu. (I have had servers in the past who acted annoyed that I was there for a discounted item). She even came over a minute before happy hour ended to make sure we didn't need anything else before it ended. For drinks we ordered a couple lychee martinis ($10 on HH) and a Pizza Port beer. They lychee martinis were surprisingly strong for how delicious they were. For food we split the salted edamame and salmon roll. The edamame was well cooked and I appreciated that they used flaky salt. It made the dish salty without any graininess. The salmon roll came with 6 pieces and was small but delicious. Our waitress recommended it and I would definitely get it again. Finally the views were spectacular! I was looking at the waves the entire time I was there. My girlfriend and I got two sushi rolls to share as we wanted something light, and some soda (next time I'm getting a cocktail because they look fun and sound tasty)!
