    Good place to people watch

Locals here, decided to drive down to Pacific Beach and have breakfast. They have a fabulous selection everyone's so friendly and the view from there is fabulous. Highly recommend. I had the avocado toast with breakfast potatoes and my husband had breakfast burrito with breakfast potatoes. Both very good.

Ahi Nachos were very good. They forgot the drinks but they got it fixed. Great vibe. The server was cool. Great sunset.

Honestly, this restaurant deserves higher than a flat 4 stars. From the moment my party walked in, you can feel the energy and excitement. The hostesses were super friendly and accommodating for my friend who had a daughter that needed a high chair. They sat us in an area away from the extra loud area with all the tv's which was perfect cause we wanted to have a nice conversation over dinner and not have to yell at each other lol. Our server Rue was exceptionally great. She helped us pick out drinks and food for the whole table. Now for the food. We did family style from raw, to sushi, to steak and veggies, and even the kids menu had a delicious chicken quesadilla for the little one. Everything was on point and prepared or cooked to perfection. This is a must visit and dine at spot either for a date, party, or if you just want some great food and drinks. I'll be back again when I'm SD.

Beautiful restaurant with beach/sunset views, tvs and a full bar. They've upgraded the furniture over the years for the better. The sushi is reasonably priced and well crafted. I had a salmon Caesar salad this past visit which was a bit pricey but the salmon was cooked perfectly. The crème brulet was a nice treat at the end. Phillip gave good service, I never felt rushed.

I've tried lots of different things at JRDN but I'll always come back for the mussels. I can't come here without ordering them. Besides the mussels, JRDN is a nice place to grab a drink and watch the sunset. The inside bar area is pretty loud but the outside patio is lovely. Service is always attentive.

I came for breakfast on my walk by the beach. I made a quick reservation because it was getting busy even though it was just one person I was seated right away outside on the patio, which had a great view of people walking palm trees, all the beach stuff. I ordered avocado toast with potatoes and a coffee. I was serviced by Evangeline not exactly sure of her spelling, but she was lovely. I got my food right away. My coffee was filled up and topped off throughout my breakfast. I didn't feel rushed. The potatoes were so delicious which could be a hit or miss at a hotel restaurant. The food was good. I have stopped in here before for like a quick drink or anything or something. This is my first time sitting down, enjoying breakfast definitely will do this again.

Great sushi rolls, delicious food, and drinks. The espresso martini was a standout, and the service was excellent from start to finish. I've been meaning to try this spot for a while, and it did not disappoint. Would love to come back for sunset one of these days--perfect PB vibes.

For some reason, I thought this was a more formal restaurant, but it turned out to be quite casual. We chose to have dinner out on their spacious patio to enjoy direct views of Pacific Ocean and the sunset views. Surprisingly, the menu here was very global...as in fusion. My husband ordered the Lobster BLT with Fries, and I got this Crabby Tuna Roll. We also shared a plate of Fried Brussels Sprouts, and ordered House Bread with Butter (not complimentary). I also enjoyed their Aperol Spritz, and my husband had red wine. The foods were surprisingly good...and the views were spectacular. I did feel that things were a bit overpriced...and again, even basic bread and butter was 9 bucks. Still, we did NOT regret choosing this on our last night in San Diego.

Birthday dinner on Saturday with a small group of friends. Stunning sunset beach views. Friendly and attentive staff. Vast food options. I ordered a bunch of shareable for 8. It was plenty of food. We were stuffed and happy. Note abled we're the lamb lollipops and mussels. Don't skip those two items! Food was served very shortly after ordering. I liked the raw bar display at the entrance. Valet parking was also a plus!

Excellent place for a sunset dinner with party vibes! Food is good and the only thing that can be slow is the service because it gets pretty busy. Other than that, a solid pick in Pacific Beach if you're celebrating something with a larger group. We had a party of 8 and aside from some slight service delays, we enjoyed our time here. I got the Skirt Steak and it was cooked just the way I liked it. The Pork Chop was good too and very filling.

The lobster BLT was absolutely scrumptious. I enjoyed the music and the gorgeous view of Pacific beach! My friends and I enjoyed the outdoor dining and staff made sure to put the umbrella over us when they noticed the sun hitting us. Our servers took great care of us! I highly recommend dining here, then enjoying Pacific Beach and the shops!

Looking for a fancy restaurant by the beach for a sweet 16 dinner, what is the vibe like here? Do they do anything fancy for birthdays? Not looking for a private party, just a nice dinner for a group of teens.

Yes! They have a private party room adjacent to the boardwalk with a hip, So. Cal beqch vibe. They can make it as upscale as you want. Great spot for parties!

    Is this place kid friendly?

    Yes I believe so!

Are they still serving Mama's French Toast? Saw many pictures of it and it looked incredible, but didn't see it on any of the menus :(

Why does this place have $$$$ when their prices look average?

I'm just guessing that some people may think it's expensive and just click on the 4 dollar signs when asked. It's San Diego right on the beach. So you may pay a bit more than other places like the taco places and bars around the area. My take...… Read more

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!
