Had a work brunch at Madi in Pacific Beach today, and it was a hit with all six of us. It wasn't busy when we arrived, though I've heard it gets packed on weekends. Parking was straightforward with a small lot and plenty of paid street spots nearby. Dakotah took great care of us. She handled our group's quirky requests with total composure, checked in at all the right times, and even sent a couple of coworkers off with to-go refills. The food was outstanding. One of my coworkers ordered the Poke Bowl Surf Shack, and it looked as good as it tasted -- bright, fresh ingredients piled around a scoop of rice and a side of spicy mayo. Another went for the Surfer Breakfast Burrito, which came with black beans and a choice of salsas. I had the Oklahoma Onion Smash Burger with bacon, served with crispy fries and a cold Mexican Coke. Everything at the table landed well. Coffee was excellent, too. They also add a 5% hospitality fee to the bill, which seems to be a growing trend in San Diego. Such a cute spot for a girls brunch! Service was great, estimated wait was an hour but we got in within 20 minutes for a group of 8 on a Sunday. Everyone really enjoyed their meals; great portions, great variety on the menu. Two of our girls got the Lucky Duck and didn't enjoy it, the mimosa flavors were not strong, as 3 different mimosas were ordered and all tasted very similarly and light. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. It was my first time trying it (I'm usually an Eggs Benedict foodie, but I didn't see it on the menu. Maybe I missed it). Came here with a group of friends for Sunday brunch. We had a reservation but were still seated about 10 minutes late, despite there seeming to be plenty of open seating in the back where we were eventually placed. That said, our server was friendly and attentive once we were seated. We shared two dishes: the blackberry goat cheese pancakes and the chilaquiles (subbed chicken for carnitas). The pancakes were decent-- I really enjoyed the blackberry component, but I didn't love the savory goat cheese element mixed into the pancakes. It tasted almost exactly like the berry goat cheese log from Trader Joe's. This might be more of a personal preference issue than a knock on execution, as someone who enjoys goat cheese would probably like this dish more. The chilaquiles were pretty average. They were a bit heavy on the black beans, and I wish there had been more avocado. Chilaquiles are usually my go-to savory brunch order, and unfortunately this version fell a bit short compared to others I've had. The iced latte was also a bit subpar. The food at Madi is great and the service is wonderful. I came in for brunch with a group and my friends dishes all came out but mine did not. After about 10/15min the server came back and realized I hadn't gotten mine and it came out super quick and the manager comp'd my entree. It was totally unnecessary and I understand things happen, but that was a very generous thing to do. Everyone loved their brunch and all of our coffees/matchas were fantastic. There's a large parking lot in front, so parking was easy on a Sunday afternoon. We had a reservation but ended up being seated about 15 minutes late - the staff was very apologetic though, which I appreciated. I ordered the iced salted toffee latte, but the salted toffee flavor was very subtle. By the end, I could barely taste it at all. That said, our waiter was extremely kind and very accommodating of dietary restrictions, which really stood out. We got the chilaquiles and subbed carnitas for chicken - I actually really enjoyed this dish. The two poached eggs were cooked perfectly. My only complaint was that there was barely any avocado on top; I would've loved a bit more. Flavor-wise though, it was solid. We also tried the blackberry goat cheese pancakes, and unfortunately this was a miss for me. The goat cheese flavor was pretty strong, and since I'd never had it in pancakes before, it felt a bit experimental. If you prefer sweeter pancakes, I'd skip this one. Food came out quickly and the restaurant was decked out for Christmas, which was cute. Overall, it was fine for a one-time experience - nothing really blew me away food- or drink-wise, but the staff energy was great. I went here with a group of 10 girls for a Bachelorette Party brunch and it was truly everything. Our table was ready for us when we arrived - we did pre-book a reservation. The server was super friendly and immediately noticed we were there for a bachelorette party and congratulated the bride, making her feel extremely special. We ordered a pitcher of mimosas, and a few of us got lattes - the Brown Sugar Latte was incredible. And the food was exactly what we needed to fuel us up for a long, fun day. We came in with a party of 5 on a Monday morning and had no trouble getting seated, although we did have reservations. They were obviously short staffed. The staff were friendly and our waitress was super nice. We ordered 2 basic breakfasts and a papa's locos with a stack of 3 pancakes. The food took a long time to come out but we were patient. When the food did come out it was cold and they were missing 2/3 pancakes. We kindly informed the waitress and she was kind enough to take care of it for us. What I didn't like, aside from long wait and cold food, was that they allow dogs inside the restaurant. My son is extremely allergic to dogs and the dog who was with its family was shaking constantly, jumping on patrons and the poor waitress, barking and allowed to walk around on a long leash. Also there was a family sitting near by us inside the restaurant with a big dog. It's a pet peeve of mine when restaurants let people have dogs inside when a patio is available for them. Service was slow, but I forgive that, because they were short staffed, can't control that sometimes, but I had the corned beef hash, and, while the ingredients were cooked and put together well, the corned beef hash itself was that generic dog food tasting stuff that a lot of restaurants use. The stuff comes in cans from Brazil, and it tastes terrible. They use scrap cuts that taste terrible, and I don't know why so many shitty breakfast places use it, but if it's not a locally made brisket corned beef dish, why am I paying 18 bucks for this dog food? Went here with my family New Year's Eve day, and it was really great. The staff was attentive, water glasses were filled, the lattes were delicious, and we all enjoyed our food. I'm originally from the south and I thought the chicken fried steak hit! My partner got the burger and the caramelized onions and fries were so delicious.
