Came here with two friends for a late birthday dinner celebration. I made a reservation for six, but we ended up needing to push it to 6:30, which wasn't an issue at all. Booking was easy through their website. When we arrived around 6:30, and there were still a handful of open tables so reservations may not always be necessary, but it's probably still a good idea. Our server was phenomenal and really elevated the experience. She gave great recommendations and even let us sample both the Cabernet and Merlot when we couldn't decide on a bottle of wine. We ordered a variety of dishes: * Spicy Edamame: very flavorful, but definitely on the spicy side so be warned if you're sensitive to heat. * Fire Fire Roll: light and fresh fish, but the seared salmon flavor didn't really stand out. * Orange Roll: also light and fresh, but I didn't really pick up the citrus/lemon zest element. A bit underwhelming compared to expectations. * Salmon Belly Nigiri: very fresh and a favorite at the table. * Crab Roll Special: generous portion of fresh crab. * Yuzu Cheesecake: served with three spoons to share. I am so thankful we stumbled upon this establishment! On a Tuesday morning, we initially tried to go to another sushi restaurant about ten minutes away, but unfortunately we didn't have a reservation and they wouldn't have had another table available for another two hours. Called Chef Jun to confirm if we needed a reservation here, but they said they had tables available since we were planning on being there in 10-15 minutes. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the girls up front and sat at a nice table outside on the back patio. We ordered the chef's choice sashimi, poke, beer, and green grape soju. I ended up asking for lemonade too to mix with my soju since I rarely drink and do not like the taste of alcohol lol. The food was absolutely delicious, I wouldn't have changed anything about our meal! We left satisfied and were so impressed with the sashimi variety we were served. I had no idea amberjack existed, but it's definitely up there with my usual salmon sashimi favorite! We definitely got our money's worth. Service was incredible, our server Marylyn D (that was on our receipt) was sooo sweet and we really enjoyed her energy. (We love your pikachu tattoo btw!) She made sure to check on us and give us updates on when our food was coming, which we really appreciated. Overall 10/10. We visited this place recently after many years since our first experience during the pandemic era, the dining area definitely looks really nice and it was comfortable and airy. Food wise, the Bay Ho scallop roll was pretty good but I wasn't too impressed with the textures of the tempura or the execution of the rainbow roll. This was highly recommended by people I follow on social medias. Decided to splurge for my son's birthday. It was tucked in a neighborhood mall where there's a liquor store there. Took us a while driving through a residential area to get here. Inside was warm and cozy with modern designs, and dimly lit. Onto the food, wished they offered more variety of sushi rolls. Most of the rolls consisted of spicy fish. Prices are comparable to other sushi places in SD, the freshness of the fishes could better. Service was good, there were a lot of servers but only one could take your order and check out. We most likely will be checking out other sushi restaurants in SD. read more

We have eaten here several times and happy there was a good sushi option in the Bay Ho area. However, last night was a disappointment. The service was excellent, everyone very helpful and friendly. We ordered several rolls and a few appetizers and I ordered my usual poke bowl. Specifically the spicy tuna poke bowl, which has always been my go to. Wow, they changed this dish...and not for the better. It arrived with little scoops of fish on top of greens and rice. Not cubes of tuna, scoop balls of mushy tuna. The texture was that of cat food. The taste was OK, not great, could not get past the cat food presence. I asked the waiter how it was prepared for it to be so mushy. He said they mix the tuna in a blender with the sauce. Who grinds up poke??? So weird. I wish I had taken a picture...it resembled "fancy feast" cat food. I ate the rice and greens, could not eat the fish. The waiter did give a discount for the dish. One of my fave sushi spots in SD. The fish is so fresh which a lot of other sushi places lack. And the service here is FAST. No joke--came as a group of 6 and we ordered 3 bowls of ramen, 3 miso soups and 7 rolls of sushi and all of that was out in under 10min. Every hand roll, sushi roll, and menu item I've tried here is good and I have no complaints about the food. The food is delicious no matter what you get. Everytime I've come here I've always gotten amazing and fast service. During the day time it's very well lit inside and then at night they dim the lights and have mini lights at each table. They have cute small booths to sit in but can also accommodate larger groups in the back as well. It's very spacious and I've always been able to get a seat without reservations but it's never a bad idea to make a reservation for a larger group if you plan on coming here. There's a stand alone sink for customers to wash their hands which is convenient if someone doesn't need to use the restroom. Parking is never an issue here even though there are several other places in the plaza. 5/5, great place to go and eat. read more

Here is my update : Came back at 2 PM for a late lunch and I would say that everything was much quicker than last time. The fish was very good and we also got the Hamachi, which actually I would say was a large portion overall great experience the Rice was a little bit tough, but I would say that they were quick to change that and customer service was spot on. This is a great spot for sushi and I'm just hoping that in the future will continue to grow. I told them that I would come back and I did and I'm glad that things are moving well. Been wanting to come here for so long! I always drive by on the way to Costco. Feel like I discovered a hidden gem. We ordered the chicken gyoza (not pictured), Crispy roll, Avati roll, and the Hawaiian roll. The gyoza was a small portion (maybe 6 pieces). It was okay. To me the stand out was the Avati roll, with seared tuna. It had a kick but it was delicious. You could tell the roll had quality ingredients and it felt very delicate. The Hawaiian roll was also very good, with tuna and shrimp tempura inside. The green kale tempura flakes on top was a nice touch, it felt very elevated. We typically try new places but this is a MINIMUM of a once/month dinner. The chefs really know how to cater to your needs and will customize whatever you like and cater to your group. My wife isn't as adventurous as me with sushi but loves Salmon and the chefs always get creative for her while I mostly do omakase (chef's choice). We have even started bringing our newborn to eat with us and the servers are always amazing to us. This isn't just a "regulars" treatment because we started by going periodically but have become "regulars" because of the exceptional service and their ability to cater to my wife and I's separate desires with regard to sushi. read more

Our favorites were the riceless salmon+salmon roe, tuna+caviar, and squid. My least favorite was the handroll since it was on the soggy side despite eating it first. Great pit stop just down the street from Costco! Came here on weekday holiday for lunch time, nice spacious parking lot and we were seated immediately. They have a pretty awesome lunch special, and my party ordered both the sushi combo lunch special and the sashimi lunch special which were both great value! The miso ramen was also some of the best ramen I've had at a sushi restaurant, rich and not too salty. I've seen the sign for Chef Jun on the way to Costco.  Decided to try the place today.  Lady in charge was nice and provided very good service. Gyoza had a crispy wrapper and I liked the chicken and cabbage filling.  Great tasting dish. Rice was soft and moist.  I liked the mild flavor. Kalbi featured very high quality beef that was tender and juicy.  Loved the flavor from the marinade and the light char.  Another great tasting dish. Not soon after though, all seats were taken so I imagine there would have been a bit of a wait for anyone else walking in. We ordered 2 rolls, avati and fire fire, and different types of sashimi. Everything was fresh, and we loved our rolls. Price of the rolls were pretty reasonable I'd say, especially for the quality. He recommended us the sushi set and it had everything we were looking for. My personal favorite from the set was the salmon oshi. The fish quality was top tier all around. I am so thankful for this location because they have an outdoor patio that is dog friendly! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday back in June and every time we have a visitor this is one of the dinner spots we will take them to. We always get seated at the patio (same table too). They do have a door that is shut after they seat you, so it may seem like they will forget about you. But don't worry! All the servers here are great and are attentive to their guest outside. They have a variety of items on their menu besides sushi. They offer poke bowls, ramen, and udon. But whenever we come we get a mix of their speciality rolls and hand rolls. I swear we have probably tried every roll on the menu at this point and everything is delicious. You can make reservations online too which is nice!
