Food My frost time trying this place and everything was so delicious. The quality of the seafood was fresh and the price is affordable and comparable to other sushi restaurants. Service Service is nice. They continue to check up on you. Our server noticed right away that our bill was wrong. He was very kind about it and readjusted it quickly. Ambience Plenty of seating for individuals and groups! The restaurant itself is very clean. The parking lot is limited though as the plaza is small and only contains restaurants so street parking may be the way to go

Even though it's been over a year since my visit, this omakase still lives rent-free in my head--and that says everything. Every course was exceptionally fresh, thoughtfully composed, and downright delicious. The progression was beautifully paced and surprisingly filling (you will not leave hungry, trust). The uni and caviar courses? Absolute show-stoppers--luxurious, briny, and genuinely tear-inducing in the best way. Every bite felt intentional and aesthetically stunning without trying too hard. Service was warm, attentive, and seamless, elevating the entire experience without ever feeling intrusive. This is the kind of omakase that reminds you why you splurge in the first place. Highly recommend. Would return in a heartbeat.

Small and cozy. We ordered off of their HH menu and regular menu. Service was attentive. The sake flight was smooth. Oysters were fresh! Everything else was good, but for what we paid; I'd would have preferred other local places. Glad I got to try it. I probably would return to have the omakase over the regular menu.

Was craving some sushi and in the convoy area so stopped by Ju-ichi and luckily they had some seating at the counter for us. It's a small restaurant with maybe four or five tables and a counter area with seat for ten. We got settled and ordered some nigiri, otoro, kinmadai, king salmon and yellowtail crudo and seared ahi tuna. The nigiri sushi was delicious, every fish was fresh and perfect temperature. Not a lot of yuzu salt or toppings, so you really got to experience the freshness of the fish. The crudo was also tasty. They had some chili oil in the sauce the yellowtail was resting in, which gave it a nice heat. On the side they had some grape tomato halves that had sugar on top which had been caramelized with a blow torch. A nice touch. The seared tuna was my least favorite. Not a bad dish but it lacked character. I wanted a bit more than just seared tuna slices with chilli powder on top. All in all was a good experience and I'll definitely be back here again.

    Tempura Shrimp???

We have spicy selfie roll, Philly roll, and tempura shrimp. The sushi roll is just okay, not great, and not bad. The tempura shrimp is a major letdown. The picture clearly shows it's not tempura shrimp, more like a poorly made panko shrimp. This isn't a real Japanese restaurant, and the sushi chef isn't Japanese. With so many great options in the Convoy area, I'll probably skip this one.

We've been here twice now. Love the intimacy of the sushi bar, excellent service both times. The first time we went we had a variety of fish (mostly dealers choice), clam miso soup was amazing, and a snow crab small rice dish. We loved it so much we went back a few months later for their Sunday tasting menu. What a treat! An intimate setting with the restaurant staff. It was a large tasting menu with a variety of food, tapas, pasta, sashimi, fry break, nigiri, and much more. We had a great time tasting through the menu and did the sake pairing as well. I highly recommend this experience and we will be back!

Brought my mom here for her birthday for sushi specifically. Ordered the miso soup and mixed tempura to start with. The sushi rolls were fresh, flavorful, and well portioned. Sushi rice was cooked perfectly. The server, who seemed to be part of ownership, was really kind and helpful. Really excited to return to try more.

Still a 20/10 experience. The nigiri is sooo fresh and unique. My new favorite roll is the influencer roll but like always the negitoro hand roll was the star!! Will definately keep coming back.

We came here to celebrate our 22nd anniversary, hoping for a nice experience. We were not disappointed. Sunday night is reserved for kaiseki style omakase, and all 12 diners were seated around the sushi bar. The restaurant was closed to regular patrons so the chef and staff can concentrate on us. The set menu consisted of cooked and raw fish, each course beautifully presented. But it wasn't just visually appealing, it was tasty. While the pictures I took shows the artful presentation, it does not capture how delicious each offering was. We genuinely loved each dish, right down to the perfect palate cleansing dessert ending. The chef carefully explained each course as it was presented, blending knowledge and humor. The two ladies serving us were super attentive and absolutely professional. Overall, it was the best omakase experience we've ever enjoyed, and a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary.

I mean, Oishi!! Yum! Came here on a weds night because didn't want to take the chance of a possibly busy Friday night. The atmosphere was really chill. I don't remember if there was music or not but we were able to hear each other talk without having to yell. It's a small place so definitely make reservations. Our waiter was Thy and he was awesome! I've been here once before and sat at the bar then, but my sister have not and she only eat cooked food so she had alot of questions and he was great at answering and explaining to her about the menu. First thing we got was the broiled oysters and it was really tasty, we had to order another plate. The snow crab mini bowl, was not that mini and it had alot of crab in it! see pictures! Very filling and love that you get so much real crab for the price! I had most of the raw food and it was definitely fresh and delicious. My toro mini bowl was filled with alot of toro as well. My favorite was the toro uni hand roll, there was so much truffle shavings on there, SOOOOO good! And the toro and hamachi sashimi omg melt in your mouth delicious! I also forgot the Hamachi crudo is also so good! We were definitely happy diners. If you haven't been here, it's a must try!

Quite disappointed with the food here at Ju-ichi. This was recommended by a friend, but it honestly wasn't anything special. We paid 73$ (not included tip) for 2 rolls and an appetizer + miso soup. Being on the expensive side I expected the fish to stand out more but it didn't seem like the quality was up to par for the price point. I also feel like the toppings of the rolls either overpowered the sushi or did not pair well.

SO. FRESH. SO GOOD. We came here on a whim for happy hour and it totally hit the spot. I had a mini toro rice bowl that was buttery, fresh, and honestly could've been twice the size and I still would've scraped the bowl clean. My husband had the snow crab version and a chirashi bowl. Why choose just one when it's happy hour, right? He also had a Harland lager, and I got a glass of sake that was so generously poured it felt like a whole small bottle. Not complaining. We ordered a side of rice and miso soup for our little Filipina queen, who needs rice in her soups (tradition and taste, baby!). The miso soup was rich, savory, and full of umami. We all ended up putting the rice into the soup, and even my husband, who's normally anti rice-in-soup, couldn't stop raving about it. That's how good it was. Dessert? Say less. The pot du crème was a mousse-lovers dream. Smooth, velvety, and topped with two big ol' pieces of candied bacon that took it from "yum" to "WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE." This place is an easy yes. Fresh fish, killer happy hour, and food that makes you rethink all your past miso soup experiences. Already planning our next visit.

We were seated at the bar, which ended up being such a vibe--we got to chat with the girl behind the bar and watch her make lattes and desserts right in front of us. That kind of interaction really sets this place apart. Price: [4.5/5] It's on the pricier side, but honestly it feels fair given the quality of food you're getting. You can taste where your money is going. Food/Drinks: [5/5] Matcha Latte -- We shared one, extra sweet at my request, and it was perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for. Chef Soichi's Karaage -- We had this as an appetizer and my boyfriend made a point to say this is the closest he's had to traditional Japanese karaage. High praise from someone who's passionate about his Japanese culture. Hayashi Omurice -- This is their most popular dish and it's easy to see why. The demi-glaze has a really unique flavor that ties the whole dish together beautifully. This was my pick and I'd order it again without hesitation. Guratan -- My boyfriend's order, and it was incredibly creamy and delicious. We were both too stuffed for dessert by the end, which says a lot about the portion sizes. Ambience: [5/5] The restaurant is small, but honestly that's part of what makes it so charming. Pink everywhere with wooden accents and cherry blossoms throughout (very fitting)--it's cozy, homey, and just really well put together. The intimate size adds to the appeal rather than taking away from it. Overall Experience: [5/5] Hatsuzakara was such a wonderful first experience. Yes, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated arriving at 7:30 on a Friday night but for a waitlist-only spot this small, that's actually a pretty reasonable wait by San Diego standards. The food, the atmosphere, and the staff more than made up for it. Already looking forward to coming back to try the curry and work through their dessert menu.

I feel like everything looked really good, so it was hard to decide what to order. The dishes have small portion size despite the price. I think this kinda helps in that you have room to eat dessert! The brown sugar Okinawa tea was good but the after taste of the sugar was not good. They kept the tea pot warm, and they served oat milk on the side. Karaage had too much chicken skin for my preference. Guratan was penne pasta and not macaroni as specified in the menu. Yakisoba could have used more chicken. Omurice had the more flavor and the egg was really good. I want to try naporitan next time because of the tomato based sauce. Of the desserts I tried, the parfait was most enjoyable because of the fruit with ice cream. The mushi pudding was good; it was the thick and "hard" type of flan. I want to try kakigori next time because I saw their shaved ice machine was legit. Parking - free street parking only. Be prepared to walk up/downhill. The sushi is consistently fresh, the service is excellent, and the whole experience just works. For an all you can eat concept, the format is really well run. You have two hours at the table, which is more than enough time, especially because the food comes out quickly. They are busy, and rightfully so. The typical wait on arrival is around an hour, which sounds like a lot but honestly reflects how good this place is. If you want to skip the wait entirely, show up about 20 to 30 minutes before they open. Get there early, get right in, and start your meal the moment the doors open. If you have kids, the wait is genuinely not a problem. The surrounding outdoor mall complex has a park area where little ones can run around and burn energy while you wait. There are coffee spots, boba spots, shopping options including Marshalls, Burlington, and Five Below. An hour goes by faster than you think when you have somewhere to wander. As for the menu, everything is good. I mean that sincerely, there is not a bad item on it. My personal favorite is the Ex-Boyfriend, which is exactly as memorable as the name suggests. Order it. You will not regret it. Little Sakana is the kind of place you recommend to everyone you know and then feel slightly possessive about when it gets too popular. Five stars without hesitation.

There's also a cute cat theme throughout, with a little paw print stamped into the wasabi and little ceramic cat chopstick holders. The food was reasonably priced and also delicious. My favorite was the Inari set, which were very plump and full of delicious fish and juicy tofu skin. The Ajitama eggs were also yummy, and the sauce it's marinated was good enough to drink up after. When it came to the rolls, there were so many good ones to choose from, I'll have to come back to try more of them. We went with the Sanji's roll and the Buldak roll. Nonetheless I think they are family owned and really tried their best! I thought the rolls were a bit on the pricier end. This is what we ordered: - Daruma Roll (5/5): This was my favorite dish of the night! I like scallops and might be a little biased but this worked out perfectly with the ikura and yuzu aioli. - Citrus Hamachi Roll (4.5/5): This was my fiancés favorite and my runnerup. I wished it was salmon on the inside instead. - Protein Roll (4/5): Solid but nothing spectacular, it's just like any other protein roll but the price was a bit steep. - Inari Set (4/5): Flavorful, great for sharing, and perfect introduction to inari - Shrimp Tempura (3.5/5): Would pass on this next time - Annin Tofu dessert (4/5): I love almond tofu but I'm not sure about the granola and it's a little on the sweeter side. The crunch adds texture but perhaps something else besides granola might suit it better like

I genuinely thought people were exaggerating how great this place was, especially when it came to authenticity. They were not. Not one item we ordered was bad and we ordered about 20 dishes. The ramen was the absolute winner. Best ramen I have had in San Diego. I was blown away by the broth and the noodles. The sushi was great, including the spicy tuna. Everything tasted fresh and fairly priced. You really can't beat these prices. The fried chicken and tuna carpaccio were standout appetizers. Honorable mention to the chicken katsu roll. It was insanely massive and so good. We will absolutely be back to try more appetizers and the ramen. We recently went to Japan and this ramen has been the closest we have had to what we experienced there. I didn't even take a picture of it before it was in my stomach!

The food is consistently incredible - seriously, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And the team working there? Absolutely lovely! They're super efficient but also incredibly warm and welcoming, which really makes a difference. You absolutely, positively *have* to try their sushi rolls if you go. They're truly next-level good! On my most recent visit, I decided to try the Gyudon Bowl, and oh my goodness, it was such a delightful and comforting dish. So flavorful and perfectly prepared - definitely a new favorite of mine! Just a little heads-up though, finding parking in that area can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but I promise you, the delicious food and fantastic experience are well worth the minor hassle. Hope you get a chance to check it out soon!

Such a cute hole‑in‑the‑wall spot on the tail end of Kensington! I had no idea this place existed…read morefor years, but I'm so glad I finally found it. Located in a small shopping center with a few parking spaces, Tanuki is a great tapas and standard sushi spot. It leans more toward Asian‑fusion tapas with some sushi rolls and a limited selection of nigiri and sashimi. If you're looking for specialty fish, a huge roll list, or omakase, this isn't that kind of sushi place. But if you want a wide selection of sake, fun fusion tapas, and some classic sushi options, this is your spot. I love that they have a small bar and that cozy, true hole‑in‑the‑wall feel. The staff is friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and it's the perfect place to come alone, with a friend, or for a casual date night. The quality is solid, and the service is fast and welcoming. They also have some great sake and green‑tea‑based drinks. I love it here -- definitely a go‑to spot for us.

Based on reviews, the Sake Wasa appeared to be popular so we gave it a try. I'm not a big fan of wasabi but this one was good. The crispy rice, salmon carpaccio, roasted striped bass, spicy scallop roll, spider roll . . . All good. The fish was fresh and they were all light. Also ordered a panna cotta and matcha cheesecake - both were good as well and nice way to finish our meal. At no time did we feel rushed. Service was friendly and they checked on us often.
