the food here is genuinely the best quality sushi I've had in San Diego so far. service was amazing and fast. Jess was super helpful and made the experience great aswell ! the vibes in the restaurant were also so cute and their happy hour special is extremely worth it. will be coming back again !!

Cherry fish is located in a quiet neighborhood and is decorated superbly. The ambiance is nice (a little dark if you use readers) and the food was outstanding. The wait staff could use a little help. Service was slow for a non full restaurant and I was a bit dismayed by their lack of non alcoholic options. Prices were a bit high but the food was delicious. Don't sleep on the okinamiyaki or the side of Japanese sweet potato. Both had a wonderful umami and unlike anything I have ever had before. If you find yourself in the area it is definitely worth a stop if you can get a table.

Smaller tuna crispy rice than last time served in a bowl full of rocks

Came back again very excited to have all the food i loved again, unfortunately it seems a few changes have been made. The tuna crispy rice is now very small bite sized pieces for the same price, and the sashimi did not have the crispy leek/chili oil stuff which it desperately needs to cut the sweetness, so my two favorite dishes from last time are two things i won't be ordering again. They did however make a positive change on the smoke bubble cocktail, it has charred pineapple flavor and uses habanero instead of shishito. The new flavors are absolutely delicious and worth getting again. We also tried the short rib entree this time which was soooooo tender and tasty. They gave a complimentary dessert for our anniversary which was the lychee crème brûlée!

    Beautiful mural inside.

Came here 7/31/26. Such a beautiful Japanese inspired izakaya with a nice ambiance. Our waitress Trinity was very knowledgeable about the food and drinks, offered great recommendations and great service. She was so funny and sweet! Everything we tried was just delicious! Okonomiyaki was one of my favs, having lived in Japan for a few years, they elevated the traditional Okonomiyaki and made it their own with kimchi, shoyu braised beef cheek, and shishito peppers. Their miso soup made with charred tofu, seaweed, and shimeji mushroom was different but sooo good! Kanpachi Sashimi was delicious and refreshing. They also had yummy cocktails, one came in a very cute fancy glass shaped as a fish. (:

Happy hour review: wed-sun 5-6:30pm Stopped in to check out happy hour at a newish upscale sushi place in PB. This location has been a variety of restaurants over the years that don't seem to last. Cherryfish is pretty inside. Happy hour is offered at the bar or a sort of strange long skinny table in the middle. We sat at the bar which is way too high for the bar chairs. You literally feel like a child trying to sit at the grown up table. So odd. We were brought menus but then pretty much forgotten as the staff chatted and waited for the dinner rush. Eventually someone came over to take our order and we ordered the HH wine and a couple of appetizers. The food was brought out by the food runner without any plates, silverware or napkins. I had to bug the bartender/bar back for those. Then when the sushi roll came out I had to again bother them for chopsticks, soy sauce, dishes. He gave us one soy sauce dish to share, I guess. The food was ok, the roll was mostly vegetables with small pieces of fish on top. For a restaurant of this price point, I wouldn't return to try the full menu. The service just wasn't there, I don't want to feel like a bother to get basic things. Sad, because I wanted to like this place.

Cherryfish is awesome! I came here with a group of 11 girls, which can be hard on any server, and our waitress was amazing! They always checked in with us, food came quick, and she was very friendly! The vibe inside is really cute & I can see the outdoor patio being beautiful when it gets a bit warmer. I got the spicy tuna on crispy rice and it was delicious!!!! The edamame (black garlic oil) was INSANE, SO GOOD! I would 100% come back and order those two again. Miso soup was also soooo good. A few of my friends got sushi rolls and said they weren't life changing, but my experience was fantastic personally. There are limited roll options, I do wish there were more

A new wave of flavor just hit @pacific.beach @cherryfishsd creations by Chef Marcus blends refined technique with fresh coastal style. The menu features miso soup, swordfish skewers, kimchi flatbread, beef tenderloin, spiny lobster, lychee crème brûlée with strawberry miso, and matcha affogato with sesame ice cream. It's the kind of place you visit once and immediately plan your return.

Cherryfish is one of the best sushi spots in Pacific Beach and one of my personal favorites in San Diego hands down! The food was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and every dish was packed with flavor. You can tell there's a lot of attention to detail, from the quality of the ingredients to the presentation. The ambiance is beautiful and makes it the perfect spot for a date night or dinner with friends. The service was fantastic--friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. I'll definitely be back and can't wait to try more of the menu. Highly recommend!

Ambience (5/5): I came here with a friend after hearing it recently open, and the overall aesthetic was really great. I think this is probably the crowning point of the restaurant. Service (3/5): I think it was fine, our server was a bit odd. We asked about the menu for recommendations but we didn't really get anything concrete in return. It sorta felt like they didn't know the menu well.. Food (3/5): We ordered a good number of items off the menu to try things out, and most of the items were lackluster than that excellent. I think the fantastic items included the Sashimi Kanpachi and the Swordfish. Both of these were very flavorful and great. We couldn't help but notice though that the quality of the dishes varied a little bit between our table and other tables--which is what leads me to remove a star. The other items we got were: (+ positive) Shishito great (+ positive) the Spicy Tuna dish, which was good; (= neutral) the Spicy lobster roll, which was fine but was a bit heavy on the mayo; (- negative) the Toro roll, which was fine but there was so much daikon in the roll, it destroyed the overall taste and texture of the roll itself; (-- very negative) the Salad, which is very, very small, very salty and lackluster for about $15. (- negative) the Lychee Creme Brulee, which was good but it was very sweet and hard to finish by the end. It felt more like a pudding to be honest. Overall, the aesthetic of the place is the highlight of the restaurant; but I do hope that this place can continue to grow in quality control of its dishes. I think many items swung too far into their flavor profiles that could use some more moderation.

Cherryfish has opened where a longtime cantina followed by a short-lived wagyu restaurant used to be in the PB neighborhood. One of the owners also operates the cafe right next door on the corner of the street. During my visit, the outdoor front patio wasn't fully set up yet. The dining area layout didn't change much with a bar in the back right of the room. A central countertop and multiple small tables provided the rest of the seating capacity. The interior of this place has always been intricately decorated, and the revamp was no exception. There was plenty of hanging greenery, and the wall murals were creative. The grand opening was late last week in the middle of the rainstorms that hit the SD area. Because of the precipitation, the opening night crowd was likely much less than anticipated. I was able to snag an empty spot at the bar that could seat about 10 people. The menu concept was Japanese fusion with about half of the offerings split between appetizers and shareable small plates. Sushi, sides, large plates, and skewers cooked over charcoal made up the rest of the categories. I initially ordered the Swordfish Belly Skewers and Spicy Lobster Rolls which were two of the ten 'Share' choices. Perhaps it was the day one jitters, but the kitchen was very slow in preparing my food. It couldn't have been due to a large volume of orders because the dining area was not even half full. I think the staff noticed the long wait and offered a complimentary dish of Shishito Peppers to pass the time. The peppers were blistered nicely, however I only ate a few as I wasn't a fan of the texture. After half an hour, the two dishes were brought out. The skewers came as a pair, and each had a tranche of grilled swordfish belly. Tangerine, mizuna, and beet char siu were the other ingredients that decorated the plate. The fish was cooked well while the tangerine's fruitiness provided a refreshing citrus contrast. The rolls came as a duo on sesame brioche buns. Instead of New England lobster as the seafood filling, local spiny lobster was used as the protein. Yuzu tartar and crispy leeks were the toppings. The tartar was heavy and obscured the meat. I would've preferred less dressing to be used. I still had an appetite after consuming these items so I ordered the Snow Crab Handrolls to finish my meal. Again, it took quite a long time for the food to be prepared. The two rolls were wrapped in sesame leaf with avocado, cucumber sunomono, kimchi mayo, and smoked trout roe as the accompaniments. The last component was quite noticeable as the salty trout eggs added a smoky flavor to enhance the crab meat. Pricewise, the cost was a bit expensive for the portion size, but I have experienced worse at similar upscale Asian restaurants. The bartenders who served me were very pleasant and apologetic for the waiting time. For their service along with the quality of the food, I rounded the rating of my dinner at Cherryfish to a four star level.

The fact that this place isn't more crowded is a travesty! Cherryfish is INCREDIBLE! First of all the happy hour food wise is an amazing deal. Get the kanpachi roll. The kanpachi sashimi is like nothing I've ever had before. 1. It's beautiful. 2. The flavor profile is so unique and incredible. Cocktails are beautiful and delicious! You genuinely cannot go wrong with Cherryfish! Eat here, bring everyone! 10/10 NO NOTES!

Came here the other night with a big group. We sat inside, the space has a lot of room for tables and pretty decorations. Our server Paige was friendly and attentive and took good care of our large group. I had white sangria which was a refreshing drink. The cocktails look interesting but they don't seem to have a full liquor license yet so only beer, wine and sake based drinks. I ordered the Kanpachi Sashimi which was a small share plate and I thought it tasted great! A good amount of fish for the price and a really interesting flavor. Miso soup is unique and delicious and the edamame is great!

On the wine front, Gata absolutely delivers. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, and it's the kind of place where one glass quickly turns into two because there are simply too many interesting options to pass up. Unfortunately, the food didn't come close to matching either the quality of the wine program or the price point. We ordered the deviled eggs, which turned out to be hard-boiled eggs sliced in half with a piece of ham placed on top. When you order deviled eggs, you generally expect, well... the eggs to actually be deviled. We mentioned our disappointment to the bartender, who was wonderful, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. The explanation was that this is simply their interpretation of deviled eggs. Fair enough, but it wasn't an interpretation that worked for us. Ironically, the standout dish of the evening was the pigs in blankets, which is not a sentence I ever expected to write about an upscale wine bar. They were delicious, but they also raised the question of why the rest of the menu wasn't reaching the same level. Looking back, we realized we were the only people actually eating while everyone else was there for the wine. In hindsight, that should have been the clue. I only wish someone had mentioned that before we made the trip over expecting a tapas experience. Gata has so much potential. The atmosphere is lovely, the wine selection is excellent, and the staff were fantastic. If the small plates eventually rise to the level of the wine program, this place could be truly special. Until then, I'd absolutely recommend it for drinks, but probably not for dinner.

He mentioned they'd course the dishes out, 2 at a time, ensuring each of the dishes were paired intentionally. Beet Salad From someone who's not easily impressed with vegetable-led dishes, this was delicious. This dish was visually vibrant, and the flavor mirrored that vibrancy. The beets themselves were stunningly soft, even juicy I'd say. It's root-y flavor was ever-present, but it never became unwelcome on the dish. "Fragrant" is another word we all used to describe the plate, with the fresh mint and succulent citrus fruit widening each our eyes. Sweet, savory, fresh and...creamy. This salad sat on top of a delightful carrot labneh, which provided a creamy element further elevating the dish. It brought a bit of tang to the salad that I appreciated. Finally, there was a crunchy detail (which we know I love) from intelligently included pieces of pastelli--a Greek treat made from sesame seeds and honey, and that sweet crunch fostered the table's excitement. Trust was firing on cylinders early, strong start. Hamachi Crudo Insane. I'm a big fan of the amount of flavor that's packed in such a delicate dish. Off rip, you're met with a visually exciting dish. Red, green, and purple from the thinly sliced pepper, cucumber, and radish pop right off the dish. Bright colors and exquisite execution, placed in a circle to match the shape of the dish, had each of us salivating. With the first taste, the crisp bite of fresh cucumber catches your senses immediately, and then subtly spicy, cream sauce. It was aguachile blanco--my first time having the blanco variant. The flavor was stupid, I struggled to describe it's uniqueness. The Mexican flavor profile was proliferated by fresh cilantro and thinly sliced radish, followed with a textured salsa seca. The light nature of the dish paired pristinely with the beet salad. Now, these next two dishes were an exciting 1-2 punch in showing you exactly what Chef is all about--that signature wood fire Wood Grilled Cauliflower I always eat my vegetables, but I rarely enjoy them. They're two for two in accomplishing that feat. In a bowl lined with curry, they served up a healthy helping of cauliflower that showcases its smokiness first. With that first bite, you taste the fire quickly, but what surprised me most was how soft each piece of the veg was. The curry and smoky flavor from the wood fire paired deliciously. Though, my favorite aspect of this delivery was the inclusion of raisins and fresh mint. This was a new combo for me, and it delivered. The sourness from the raisins and the cool, herbaceous qualities of the mint cut right through the charred flavor. A beautiful contrast. As we continued to dismantle the plate, there was a familiar flavor that we all recognized but couldn't identify. Maybe it was the serrano aioli or the black lentils. Either way, we all enjoyed this one. Wood Grilled Octopus This was a favorite of mine, but I was alone in that regard. While nobody disliked the dish, the table had mixed reviews. For me, this was perfectly cooked. The texture of the octopus was ridiculous with a cooking technique that created a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender bite. The smokiness didn't shy away here either. I mean damn. Most weren't a fan of the pepperoni, but fresh, ground meat added a rustic flavor pop that satiated my palate. It held that beloved pepperoni flavor, but this style allowed for it's flavor to spread across each bite. What made this dish unique from any other octopus I've had was the addition of castelvetrano olives and legumes. They both brought an interesting flavor and texture element that surprised me. Lastly, the salsa verde served as a perfect sauce, providing an element of moisture that complimented the charred features. Well done. After round two is when shit got real. Crab Fried Rice OH SHIT. WTF. One of the best rice dishes I've ever had. This is one we all wished was much much bigger. Despite the name, this dish includes chunks of incredibly juicy, wood-roasted lobster that there was never going to be enough of. The crab was shredded and could be found in each bite of plump rice, providing a pleasing flavor. Both a lemongrass emulsion and Thai chili were included, offering a wonderful duality of zest and spice. I thoroughly enjoyed the basil and cashew elements as they created some extra variety in flavor and texture. Not much else is needed for me to say, it's a must order. Char Sui Glazed Brisket OH SHIT. It's a big open space and it's not super quiet inside, but not too loud that you can't hear people at your table, and you can't hear other tables conversations. I can tell they put a lot of thought into this by having porous walls and structures or decor that break up any echoing. The music was the perfect volume as well. Our waitress, Cassidy, was so nice and knowledgeable of the menu. She explained it in detail and went over the differences with the dish sizes. She also made a great recommendation on the Pinot Noir wine. It met the flavor profiles I enjoy with wine. She came back and checked on us, but not too often. The other staff were great too! I do have to note that at one point in the night, there was a lady dressed in a suit (I'm guessing a manager) that was following the waitresses every move. I'm not sure if maybe she is in training or there was some sort of review process happening but I found it awkward. I got "micromanager" vibes. Overall a great experience! It's fine dining and pricey, but is good for special occasions. I would recommend dressing at least semi-nice, but it's not a requirement.

I made a reservation (just in case) because on a weekend you never know. Luckily, though, we arrived and there was plenty of available seating. My husband and I had our 10 and 5 year old with us and they easily accommodated us. It's a straightforward, but lovely menu that has a little bit for everyone. We enjoyed sharing a few plates and fresh oysters on the half shell. They do not have a kids menu, which was alright with us. Our daughter, who loves a good steak at 5 years old, enjoyed their pub steak and fries and shared a Mexican Coke with her brother. For my husband and I, we enjoyed sharing their beef tartare and to finish it off, a banana split. What we found so whimsical about Finca is their presentation. My husband and I really enjoyed exploring their menu and leaving room for a return visit soon. I couldn't recommend Finca more for anyone looking for a fun and casual dining experience with a lovely staff and unique take on traditional favorites.

I think we ordered just about everything on the left side of the menu, but the standouts were the beef tartare, the lamb osso buco, and the hamachi. Honestly, there wasn't a single bad bite all night. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, with some unique Spanish selections that were a pleasant surprise. This may have just become my new regular haunt. It's a fantastic neighborhood gem that deserves a place on any foodie's must-visit list. Absolutely love this place!

But there is a parking garage on 29th. We sat at the bar, and the staff was amazing. They were super friendly and helpful. It busy inside and bustling. Just a great spot to enjoy some good food and take in all the sights and sounds. The lighting is great. It's dimly lit, but there is so much going on, it all feels fun and alive. I am not a Gin drinker, but the bartender made me a gimlet that was so refreshing and yummy. We got Spanish tortilla, which was totally worth it. It was really well done. The aioli sauce that it comes with was so flavorful. The oysters were delightful. The Kanpachi was delicious and refreshing. The basque cheesecake was one of the best I have had. So stoked to how found this place. I love it!

It's a family style restaurant which is nice so you can try different type of things. Oysters are 50% off during happy hour (4-5pm) and the full dinner menu doesn't start until 5pm so keep that in mind. Everything was good and we surprisingly got full even though we only ordered 1 dozen oysters, the mussels, and the swordfish. Everything was flavorful and prepared well. I would probably come back but maybe when they change out their menu.

Everything started great, they even had my favorite beer Schmidtwick's. The food was delish and presented well. Our server was attentive and kind. The place was neat and clean, great for a mtg... The general manager came over and chitchatted with our table. I was the one who called the meeting, I chose the place via Yelp reviews. However, when the GM found out it was all three of our first time he proceeded to hand out his card. The guy that met me there was handed one, then my son who lives in Irvine was handed one. However, when I reached my hand out, he hesitated. I told him we don't live together (speaking of my son who was sitting next to me) and he started to hand it to me, but then pulled it back. He informed me it's in case we come back... funny, our topic of conversation that day was how hard it was for women growing up in my era and working their way up the ladder... how times have changed. Upon leaving, my guest laughed and said his wife would've gone ballistic at how the only woman at the table was treated. The GM appeared to look like we were the same age. I was quite insulted by his behavior. I hope something can be learned for my honest review. I did get a card, but I don't think I'll be back.

And this review is after that experience, so we can compare and contrast things like pricing and quality. When you come here you must bring a loaded wallet. To try a sour beer or any of their Russian River beers, (which was a surprise to us that there even was beer coming out of Russian River, a place I love for wine) .... is $19 for a bottle. And if you've never tried a sour beer and no one likes it, there are no returns. You pay your money and you take your chances. They are creative at The Joint. I mean an eel roll with macadamia nuts is a brilliant twist on sushi. The second thing we try is their soft shell crab roll. Delicious. Everyone at the table 'seconds' these comments. I ask someone on the way in, seated at a table eating sushi if it is good. He says: "I'll let you know". Later, he comes back to our table to let me yes! It's really good". So is this a good place to go for Sushi? The answer is yes. Is it a little confusing as an asian fusion place to have so many diverse choices? The answer is yes, but I also admit I do like all the options. Again, they call their Happy Hour food 'Tapas'. Is that Spanish, or is it just me? Japanese fried chicken or an arugula salad or oysters? lol Your taste buds must travel all over the place and that's hard on the palate and my headspace of 'what am I eating'? Is it overpriced? The answer is yes! And if I'm being honest, it surprises me that no one else on yelp is mentioning this. If money is not an issue and you want good sushi, our group recommends trying The Joint. Just don't count on happy hour having happy prices. $4 for an oyster is not happy! It's regular priced. Maybe even over priced for a happy hour menu where oysters come in at $1 and $2 for happy hour. And today, they are all out of oysters. lol We usually just tell you what to order when you go to a restaurant. This is the first time we have felt the need to let you know what you're in for, price wise. Sorry to the wonderful staff and great chef. No idea why they need to represent themselves as 'happy hour noon - 6pm every day', leading me to believe there is good pricing. But it's not my zoo, not my monkeys.
