The place was packed but they made us feel like we had the whole place to ourselves. Outstanding experience. The food was delicious. Fresh and tasty. The restaurant is lovely. Very cute place for a date night! We will be back.

Hane Sushi in San Diego delivered one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I did the omakase, and it was truly exceptional. Chef and owner Roger made the entire experience unforgettable -- his skill, attention to detail, and genuine passion for his craft really showed in every course. The quality of the fish was outstanding, incredibly fresh, and each piece was prepared with care and precision. Every bite was delicious and thoughtfully presented. It felt like a personalized culinary experience rather than just a meal. If you're looking for high-quality sushi and an omakase experience like no other, Hane Sushi is the place. I'll absolutely be back.

It's really expensive for the quality of the roll. The itself wasn't too bad but it didn't taste so fresh for some reason, and it certainly didn't highlight the fish. The service was also extremely slow when the restaurant was around 70% full with us getting our first plate around 45 minutes in. In total, it took us almost 2 hours to get the little food we ordered.

Favorite sushi in San Diego! Freshest fish ever, service is always great, quality never changes.

Really top-tier sushi. And it's no secret either this place is busy. The family really enjoyed our selections and we split it between sushi and sashimi. My suggestion is to sit at the sushi bar and talk with the chefs. They have a number of tables as well and a very small bar. It's very comfortable restaurant and the owner is very friendly. We will be coming back soon.

We had an excellent dining experience on a Thursday night. The sushi and non-sushi items are delicious. For appetizers, we ordered yellowtail hamacha (neck bone) and the miso chilean sea bass--both were juicy, flavorful and cooked just right. We also had crunchy roll (shrimp tempura), caterpillar roll (eel), and unagi sushi (eel). We enjoyed the salmon tostada (prepared by Chef Roger Nakamura) that was a little hot, yet slightly sweet with the sauce, and very fresh fish. The food was beautifully presented (i.e., avocado slices displayed and layered just so pretty) and very tasty. We also had a sushi combo (which came with California rolls, unagi sushi, and a variety of raw sushi/cooked sushi)--very pretty! We were celebrating a birthday and surprised with a special grilled pineapple slice and ice cream. The service was friendly and prompt; our server was very nice (Japanese lady whose name started with an "H"). We saw at least four sushi chefs behind the counter and a number of servers and a bartender at the bar in addition to a hostess. The place was busy on a Thursday night, with the sushi counter (seats about 14 people) full and just one or two empty tables in the restaurant. Even the miso soup was delicious with tofu, We look forward to another visit!

We came here yesterday for lunch and had an awesome experience; this was my 3rd time here and it lives up to the many positive reviews praising the quality of the fish and the overall dining experience. Here, Chef Roger Nakamura, a protégé of the renowned Yukito Ota of Sushi Ota, showcases his mastery of sushi preparation. Diners can expect to find pristine cuts of fresh, seasonal fish meticulously arranged on handcrafted plates, a true testament to Nakamura's dedication to his craft. We particularly enjoyed the tuna tartar appetizer and sushi combination order (comes with miso soup), perfectly paired with a green tea. Hane Sushi is open and the seating area is an airy, light-filled room. The sleek red and black décor creates a modern Japanese aesthetic, with clean lines and minimalist touches that set the perfect stage for the culinary artistry to come. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. You can book through OpenTable or by calling the restaurant.   Dress code is casual to business attire.

We were in San Diego the day after Thanksgiving & this place was highly recommended by a friend. The sushi was outstanding! Very fresh & literally melted in my mouth. Superb quality sushi. I didn't like the shrimp tempura roll at all. It was placed on a plate and had soy sauce underneath the entire roll which I've never seen before and it was very salty. I only ate the inside part. The service was just ok. They weren't busy at all - yet the female servers acted annoyed that they were working or had to take our order. They both had a bit of an attitude. That being the reason for 4 stars versus 5. The restaurant itself is nice & has a modern design. I would definitely go back when in San Diego.

    Salmon tostada!

Hane sushi was recommended to me by a few trusted people, so I decided to try it. Downtown parking is always hit or miss, but we did find parking quickly around the corner. The food was flavorful, and fresh. I really enjoyed the salmon tostada, jalapeno hamachi, and the Yoshi special. The calamari was just okay for me and came in a very tiny amount. We tried a few other rolls like the ceviche roll and to me it was just okay. Customer service was good even though they were really busy. I would say it is a bit overpriced for the amount of food you get, but worth a try to order the things that are worth it!

I've been wanting to try this place for the longest and I'm so glad that I did! I would make a reservation as this area gets crowded and the restaurant isn't that big. Servers are all very friendly and the restaurant itself is pretty trendy. As for the food, everything is really delicious, but definitely on the pricy aide. Food review: Sashimi (10/10) It was melt in your mouth delicious. My favorite was the toro. Yummmm! Salmon tostada (10/10) The sauce, the crunch of the tortilla, and delicious sashimi was such a great combo. We ended up ordering 2 of them. Crispy tuna (10/10) Um, yumm! These are a really good portion size and they taste amazing. The crunch was just right on these. Jalapeño brings a nice kick to it. Blue crab handroll (7/10) Apparently they are seasonal so we tried them. They were warm and super flavorful. Great crunch to the crab and really filling! Bluefin roll (10/10) I loved this roll. Bluefin is delicious, the flavors combined really well, the crunch was a nice touch on top. Ceviche roll (9/10) Super spicy! The roll itself though was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised with how good this one was. The jalapeños are definitely on the spicy side and the sauce on the side is also very hot! Double double roll w/ salmon (10/10) The salmon on top was seared and the salmon inside literally melted in your mouth. This roll was everyone's top choice at the table. I'd recommend trying this one for sure. Overall, this place is delicious and definitely worth trying. Be sure to make reservations and note that it is on the pricey side!

Absolutely love the sushi here! Incredibly high quality fish (which you will pay for) it's so worth it. They have great rolls, hand rolls, and nigiri. It's a super casual neighborhood restaurant with top notch sushi bar. I would love to make this my go-to sushi place if it wasn't for the high prices. Great service!

The sushi is consistently fresh, the service is excellent, and the whole experience just works. For an all you can eat concept, the format is really well run. You have two hours at the table, which is more than enough time, especially because the food comes out quickly. They are busy, and rightfully so. The typical wait on arrival is around an hour, which sounds like a lot but honestly reflects how good this place is. If you want to skip the wait entirely, show up about 20 to 30 minutes before they open. Get there early, get right in, and start your meal the moment the doors open. If you have kids, the wait is genuinely not a problem. The surrounding outdoor mall complex has a park area where little ones can run around and burn energy while you wait. There are coffee spots, boba spots, shopping options including Marshalls, Burlington, and Five Below. An hour goes by faster than you think when you have somewhere to wander. As for the menu, everything is good. I mean that sincerely, there is not a bad item on it. My personal favorite is the Ex-Boyfriend, which is exactly as memorable as the name suggests. Order it. You will not regret it. Little Sakana is the kind of place you recommend to everyone you know and then feel slightly possessive about when it gets too popular. Five stars without hesitation.

The theme of Sushi MARU is truly attention to detail, and that extends from arrival, to service, to, of course, the food. Staff were incredibly attentive and easy to talk to, including the chefs. The food, I will comment on just generally as the menu is constantly changing (as is the case with many omakase): each dish was composed of pieces that complemented each other well and created a cohesive flavor pallette. Each nigiri was artfully prepared that emphased the quality and cut of the fish, and were complemented by flavors to further highlight that. The flow of the evening was non-traditional omakase, but it felt perfect. Price ($180pp) is not for the faint of heart, but is cheaper than others I've seen. Made the reservatiin online at the beginning of March for an omakase seating in April to celebrate husband's bday. They had a 5:15pm seating on a weekday at the sushi counter. Other options are the table and outside patio, however, for omakase, I always prefer the counter/bar. Unlike other omakase restaurants, Soichi offers their full vs petite vs nigiri only omakases at variable times (not limited to 2 seating times like others). You can also enjoy any of these omakases or order a la carte or both at the tables and outside patio also. The ambiance is bright and full of energy. Can get a bit loud with people talking, but didn't bother me. Parking is street parking. No designated lot. We found one a little down the street and walked over, which worked out. There is a park down the street and street parking around it. I recommend arriving earlier to find parking though, just in case. Restaurant is small inside, but clean and cozy. We arrived 15min early, and they seated us. The staff were all friendly. They all spoke Japanese to each other, which also felt more authentic. Our omakase chef was Daniel today. He was very nice, friendly, professional, and skilled. When we had questions, he answered them promptly and kindly. He also checked in with us to ensure the ratio of rice and sashimi was OK for us (of course it was). They served on unique plates too. Everything tasted so fresh and smooth. Some items were also unique compared to other omakase restaurants. The chawanmushj was also piping hot when served, so it also tasted fresh. They have barley tea here too and not just green tea. They offer a la carte at the end of the omakase course if we like, but I was too full. My husband ordered a tuna maki roll, which he thought tasted great. The dessert was also yum! Hojicha ice cream was very tasty! I recommend! They sang the happy bday song for the bday folks, where the senior chef (perhaps the owner?) played the ukelele/guitar and sang happy bday with the rest of us guests. Thought that was really neat. The service and partnership between the sushi chef and the wait staff was fantastic and every interaction was well thought out. The appetizer wasn't my cup of tea, but the sashimi, nigiri, grilled fish, chawanmushi were really good. The assortment of fish (at least for this season) wasn't my favorite (featuring sardines, mackerel, etc.) when I would have loved some yellowtail and salmon belly. We ordered a negitoro cut roll a la carte because we were still a little hungry - this was super tasty as the quality of the tuna/toro is top notch. For dessert, they had 4 flavors of homemade ice cream to pick from. The sesame was incredible and the roasted green tea really good too. I feel like most of the omakase I've been to have 2-3 seating for dinner, so all the customers for that time arrive at the same time and everyone is at the same point of the omakase. At Soichi, it seems like each party has their reservation at a different time (4:30, 4:45, 5:00, etc.) so each group is at a different part of their meal, not to mention some parties that ordered a la carte or a different omakase menu (sushi only option, etc.) As a result, the chef is bouncing around working on a bunch of different items, and we had to wait quite a bit for each of our nigiri courses. The whole meal took 2.5 hours. We also felt less of that group vibe with other parties that is common in other omakases. Overall, we still had a really lovely time and glad we got to try it!,

So cute! - Would definitely come back for the food, vibes, and great service! - Each season they have a different menu, if you had all 4, you'd receive a little gift! I definitely would love to try all 4 seasons but unfortunately I don't live around the area.

Ichifuji has routinely been one of the personal favorites of many users. I booked a reservation. It was about $160 before tax and tip. Definitely a lot cheaper than most of the Chicago ones and the quality of each course was exceptional. Our chef had a great sense of humor. Everyone was pleasant to talk to. I recommend coming here early before your reservation to secure a parking spot, at least an hour or more. The lot is shared with a Vietnamese restaurant and the parking lot is already small. We thought about parking in the bigger lot to the right but was unsure due to the towing signs. We're from out of State so we didn't want to risk it. If you have the money to spare with no kids, I recommend coming here.

They also have a rotating specials menu so there's different seafood options to try for your sushi and also cooked options. My go to is the chirashi bowl. Good portions and delicious sashimi! Sushi is one of my favorite foods, so I don't say it lightly :). I have brought family and friends back here too My brother in law brought his kid and tried the chicken of the sea nuggets (tuna) and even I loved them! Friendly service, although sometimes food takes a while to come out. The parking is plentiful, in a plaza parking lot. Good ambiance for a bit more casual date night that's cozy!

The menu is pretty extensive, but it definitely has a good quality for what we ordered. Service is quick and ordering to food coming out was pretty fast. For someone with a low tolerance of spice, you never know how spicy the spicy tuna will actually be, I gambled wrong for my tolerance. Delicious none the less but for me a little too spicy haha! The other rolls were fantastic though, and all very good. Would definitely come again if in the area!

Came here for San Diego Restaurant week in January 2026. Three course for $65…read more We ordered: 1st -Chicken karaage - hard crunch just straight up fried chicken skin and chicken jerky due to the dryness. No flavor unless you dip. It was like eating chicharron. -Egg plant skewers - Couldn't tell it wasn't meat, it had the firm and tender texture with Unami flavors. 2nd -Rock shrimp tempura - this would taste better with rice. Almost like honey walnut shrimp. Ate like 3 and got full. Too much batter. -Big eye tuna tataki - nothing stood out 3rd -Surf and turf roll - by the time we got this dish, we were already disappointed not satisfied. -Kim chi chaufa - basic fired rice with the crispy burnt rice at the bottom. For a place this upscale, I wasn't impressed with the restaurant week menu. The food was under whelming. Sad to say that our favorite dish out of all were the egg plant skewers. I would rate 2 for the food but increase due to the view and ambiance. We looked around and saw every table with the pretty sushi box. I expected the menu not to offer all cooked dishes. This would go down as one of our least favorite restaurant week dining experience. No parking in this area so we took an uber. I can't believe we spent over $100 each and left disappointed and hungry.
