Not 20% off ????

Service was non existing. Was here at noon and the dot not have the ability to take cash, also Thrusday are apparently not 20% off even though the sign at the door says it is. They told us it's not at lunch tome

Hot Crunchy Roll

A cheaper option for sushi in the area and convenient if you're looking for grab and go sushi. On the fridge counter they were offering Pork Buns, a few basic rolls, and appetizers like gyoza and krab salad. You will need a few minutes to read the menu as the font is small but they have many options. We noticed they use a machine to roll the sushi, so definitely not the authentic roll you are looking for, however, pieces come out neat, the sushi rice is good, and the nigiris are big for its size but a decent cut of fish. We ordered the Salmon Combo and Hot Crunchy Roll. Salmon Combo (4/5): Six pcs of salmon and tuna sushi, two tuna nigiri, and two salmon nigiri and drizzled spicy Mayo and eel sauce. All of it was pretty balanced and tasty. Hot Crunchy Roll (4/5): Imitation Krab with sriracha and spicy Mayo. Topped with delicious fried onions. For a deli type of establishment, it's not bad, however, it's not as cheap as I originally thought it was. For what it is, I give it a 3.5. Another downside is they charge extra for things like spicy mayo.

Imma a 2x's a month Sushi eater. My friend gifted me new chopsticks straight outta Japan so they needed to be broken in. I had the California crunch roll and Salmon avocado roll. Oh yeah, and my guest had a mango/strawberry Boba. Me, personally I can't get in the Boba culture but she said it was delish...and she's 12 years old. Unlike a traditional sushi dining experience. there is no flair, no pre-eats, no high affluent choices. And that is what makes this eaterie relevant. Delicious rolls that are plentiful, in a non-pretentious environment. You could easily dine-in and go and if you have at least an hour, it could be a quick date or lunch or solo, or just because. I appreciated the Calypso juice choices. No soda fountain machines, only cans. And the only free refill is water. By the way the ginger was extra good. High fives So reasonably priced even on a college student budget Excellent service from greetings to expeditious clean-up after customers Fresh and fresh Soy sauce brand is good and not too salty Meh No appetizers except seaweed salad Thumbs down Parking, not their fault but still a factor Despite the gratuity backlash, this place deserves it "If you compliment yourself, you don't have to rely on others."

Food: 2/5 Service: 0/5 Ambiance: 0/5 Wow. I can't believe people rate this place well. I stopped by because the average rating was decent and the prices are much lower than sushi spots in central San Diego. Definitely will not be back. Bring your headphones because there is no music here and the only sound is their extremely loud AC mini split unit. So annoying. For 1 roll, 1 sashimi order and 1 hot sake, total came to $47. Surprising because from the prices on the menu, it should have been $35. Well, they charge extra for two water and wasabi and ginger on both dishes. Really? Just include them in the price. Service is absolutely non existent here. No staff in the restaurant when I arrived at 6:15pm although 3 tables sat. I waited and finally yelled "hello?!" and a man walked out from the back. He gestured the bar because I was alone. Sure. He goes in the back again after I take a seat. 15 mins later and no water or anything. A female server comes out to her tables and then sees me and looks surprised. So the guy didn't tell anyone that a new customer came in... smh. I was ready to order by then so the lady took my order. I waited another 15 minutes for my water and 25 minutes for the sake and sushi. The food is Ralph's quality. I wish I saw the other review that said that. I ate about half my food and then decided I couldn't bare to stay any longer. I wanted to ask for the bill, but again, no staff for a long time. I finally got up from the bar and went to the host area. Again yelled, "hello?!?!?" and the lady came out again and took my payment. I rarely leave less than a 20% tip, but are you kidding me? This restaurant is over 2 years old, they should have their sh*t together by now. Terrible experience.

Hours: 9am - 9pm according to the very kind employee who helped me out today I live in the area and just realized this new addition on a Starbucks run. Great location and looks like a great setup for both dining in and takeout. It was just before 11am and there were already a handful of options to grab and go: California rolls, Dragon rolls, dumplings. I grabbed a prepared Golden Dragon Roll and ordered a Tuma Poke Bowl. Service was quick and friendly and they were playing the World Cup game. It was empty barring one other person doing a pickup, but it was kinda early for sushi. The quality of both was incredible! VERY FRESH and delicious, and a good price. I'll probably frequent this place often on teleworking days.

Takeout convenience is the best attribute of this newly opened sushi spot in the Bankers Hill neighborhood. Su Su Sushi is certainly not a dining destination like the more well-known Japanese establishments nearby. With that being said, they have a lot of table space inside which I don't know how they will fill up if the big selling point is grab-and-go sushi. There is bar seating too, however I don't when or if an alcohol license will be granted. The menu had a long list of basic sushi and poke bowl choices, including catering capabilities if you needed party tray quantities. Don't expect nigiri, sashimi, or exotic fishes though. Only a core set of maki roll varieties were premade and placed on refrigerated display next to the service counter. The setup was a larger version of what you see in the deli section of the local grocery stores. The size and prices of the rolls were similar with these being more freshly made. The top row of the display had plastic containers each holding three BBQ pork buns. I chose one of those and a Chef's Special for my order. I asked the buns to be heated because I was dining in. The dough was fluffy, but the BBQ pork filling was low. A better ratio of meat to dough would have been an improvement. The Chef's Special was 15 pieces of a California Roll base with salmon and/or tuna wrapped on the outside of 12 of them. They were arranged in a colorful formation on the tray. If buying average quality maki rolls to-go are what you are seeking to satisfy a craving, then Su Su Sushi is an alright option if you live or work in its vicinity. If you want gourmet, higher end sushi, then there are better places for that on the same block.

I also got a spicy tuna hand roll, the Kobe Roll, and a few nigiri's including Hamachi, Chutoro, and Salmon belly. All were delicious but the Chutoro was the fave. Included to choose from: specialty and basic rolls, hand rolls, basic udon, miso soup, calamari, etc. Best if with a group to share so nothing goes to waste if you don't like something. Our group of four left satisfied. Value: Four adults without drinks came to about $180 before tip. It's pricey but considering it's fresh sushi made to order and not generic rolls left on a counter like other buffets I think it warrants the higher price. Be advised adding sashimi is an additional ~$13. Service: Very quick to take orders, bring out food (fried/baked will take longer), fill waters and give the bill when ready. Excellent. Interior: Very clean, modern, and my guest was able to watch the padres game while we ate. Overall: If you're willing to spend over $40 on quality sushi, you'll love it here. If you only want appetizer items you may get bored of all the fried items, seaweed salad, and soups. And if going that option it wouldn't be worth the $40+.

We were first to enter and it was clear immediately that omakase is this restaurants institution; delicate lighting that highlighted the bar that separated diner and chef, clean lines everywhere, and just overall a beautiful place. The theme of Sushi MARU is truly attention to detail, and that extends from arrival, to service, to, of course, the food. Staff were incredibly attentive and easy to talk to, including the chefs. The food, I will comment on just generally as the menu is constantly changing (as is the case with many omakase): each dish was composed of pieces that complemented each other well and created a cohesive flavor pallette. Each nigiri was artfully prepared that emphased the quality and cut of the fish, and were complemented by flavors to further highlight that. The flow of the evening was non-traditional omakase, but it felt perfect. Price ($180pp) is not for the faint of heart, but is cheaper than others I've seen. Would absolutely visit again for a special occasion!

Made the reservatiin online at the beginning of March for an omakase seating in April to celebrate husband's bday. They had a 5:15pm seating on a weekday at the sushi counter. Other options are the table and outside patio, however, for omakase, I always prefer the counter/bar. Unlike other omakase restaurants, Soichi offers their full vs petite vs nigiri only omakases at variable times (not limited to 2 seating times like others). You can also enjoy any of these omakases or order a la carte or both at the tables and outside patio also. The ambiance is bright and full of energy. Can get a bit loud with people talking, but didn't bother me. Parking is street parking. No designated lot. We found one a little down the street and walked over, which worked out. There is a park down the street and street parking around it. I recommend arriving earlier to find parking though, just in case. Restaurant is small inside, but clean and cozy. We arrived 15min early, and they seated us. The staff were all friendly. They all spoke Japanese to each other, which also felt more authentic. Our omakase chef was Daniel today. He was very nice, friendly, professional, and skilled. When we had questions, he answered them promptly and kindly. He also checked in with us to ensure the ratio of rice and sashimi was OK for us (of course it was). They served on unique plates too. Everything tasted so fresh and smooth. Some items were also unique compared to other omakase restaurants. The chawanmushj was also piping hot when served, so it also tasted fresh. They have barley tea here too and not just green tea. They offer a la carte at the end of the omakase course if we like, but I was too full. My husband ordered a tuna maki roll, which he thought tasted great. The dessert was also yum! Hojicha ice cream was very tasty! I recommend! They sang the happy bday song for the bday folks, where the senior chef (perhaps the owner?) played the ukelele/guitar and sang happy bday with the rest of us guests. Thought that was really neat. I recommend Soichi! Shout out to Chef Daniel!

The service and partnership between the sushi chef and the wait staff was fantastic and every interaction was well thought out. The appetizer wasn't my cup of tea, but the sashimi, nigiri, grilled fish, chawanmushi were really good. The assortment of fish (at least for this season) wasn't my favorite (featuring sardines, mackerel, etc.) when I would have loved some yellowtail and salmon belly. We ordered a negitoro cut roll a la carte because we were still a little hungry - this was super tasty as the quality of the tuna/toro is top notch. For dessert, they had 4 flavors of homemade ice cream to pick from. The sesame was incredible and the roasted green tea really good too. I feel like most of the omakase I've been to have 2-3 seating for dinner, so all the customers for that time arrive at the same time and everyone is at the same point of the omakase. At Soichi, it seems like each party has their reservation at a different time (4:30, 4:45, 5:00, etc.) so each group is at a different part of their meal, not to mention some parties that ordered a la carte or a different omakase menu (sushi only option, etc.) As a result, the chef is bouncing around working on a bunch of different items, and we had to wait quite a bit for each of our nigiri courses. The whole meal took 2.5 hours. We also felt less of that group vibe with other parties that is common in other omakases. Overall, we still had a really lovely time and glad we got to try it!,
