All you can eat for $40 !!! 5 nigiri's per person, we tried the salmon, tuna, shrimp, and albacore. All were delicious but my favorite was the albacore the waitress was nice and attentive. Sake was $6. We tried the different rolls and a hand roll. Definitely try the Washington roll! It was seared and so delicious even if you don't do the all you can eat, the prices are cheaper than your usual. Will be coming back again

Enjoyed my uber eats order from here! The fish was very fresh and seemed good quality. I had a chirashi bowl and seaweed salad. The chirashi bowl was very good, although a bit pricey at $40+. The seaweed salad was pretty good as well. I'd order again but more as a splurge

I have only ever done takeout for their specialty Maki rolls so I can only speak to that - But I really enjoy RK Sushi! It's definitely a go-to for me for takeout in the Hillcrest/Mission Hills area. I particularly enjoy the Marissa Roll and Crunch Roll (basic, I know). They have other fun speciality rolls that I've enjoyed as well but always seem to come back to these two. I typically order through their website for pickup and it's usually quick even on weekends. Standard sushi restaurant prices - Not too low, not too high. Parking is easy in a lot out front.

Walked in on a Saturday night and was able to get a spot! The servers were super friendly and it was cool because you can order from the computer right away. Love the efficiency. The fish was super fresh and there was a nice variety of rolls! We ordered 3 different rolls, 2 hand rolls, beer + sake (there was a special) and this was the perfect amount 2 people! Second time at this spot and would go back again! We enjoyed it! Super relaxed spot!

My husband and I ordered takeout sushi on a Friday evening and were absolutely delighted with the presentation and freshness of our meal. We tried the jalapeño bombs, the Abel roll, and the Playboy roll, all of which were exceptional. The crunchy tempura on top of the Playboy roll complemented the creamy avocado, spicy krab, jalapeño, and sriracha sauce beautifully. The Abel roll featured spicy tuna, yellowtail, ponzu, sriracha, as well lemon slices. The fish to rice ratio was perfect, and we appreciated the clear containers that showcased the sushi. The jalapeño bombs were generously filled with tuna, krab, and cream cheese, creating a perfect bite. RK Sushi truly knows how to impress. We will definitely be back!

What happened to the original family that owned RK Sushi? Anyone know? The young woman (allegedly a daughter) who had different colored hair everytime I went and she was so personable? So I pay my rent in Mission Hills once a month and I take the opportunity to order from what USE to be my favorite sushi restaurant. I live in La Mesa so this is a treat for me. Tonight on my way home I was thinking I'm going to treat myself to RK takeout. I ordered 3 Vitamin C rolls (my absolute FAVORITE), miso soup, garlic edamame and a house salad that came to $61.09. First, I asked where the tip jar was and this loud ass male voice yelled from the sushi bar, "ITS OVER HERE". Whatever, I just wanted to order. Guys, this place is no longer owned by the same family. I've never been so dissatisfied and disappointed by anything from this restaurant until today. THE PORTIONS are no longer the same. My miso was a literal CUP...the salad is half the amount, the garlic edamame...where's the sauce? The sides matter! The sushi, I like mine cold and they put my miso soup with my sushi(please keep in mind I'm driving to La Mesa). Prepare yourself...it has CHANGED and not for the good. There's no chairs in front of the sushi bar so there's no interaction there. They got rid of the menus and replaced them with tablets so there's barely any interaction there. Makes me really sad. I know things have got to change to match the times but this is not it. Use to be my favorite but I guess I'm sticking to Narumi Sushi in East County. Thanks for the memories RK and the young lady who always smiled, was very friendly and had different colored hair everytime I saw her.

We are always down for sushi anywhere so is my first time having all you can eat sushi I think we got it for $40 a person during one of their happy hours and we were stuffed. It seems like they pack on the rice a little bit, but even still, the quality of all of the options is great, I would highly recommend all of it is so filling!

Stopper by my favorite spot for an early dinner. I'm just never disappointed when I come here. Everyone is always so nice, the food is always SO good & I try to go as early as I can because they do get super busy & sometimes hard to get a table. Which is great for them! We love a busy restaurant. My three musts are the protein roll, samurai roll, & salmon sashimi. My go to spot!!!

    Mick M.

This is a well kept secret in Mission Hills. The food here is excellent as is the service. June the owner is a sweetheart and all about providing exceptional and friendly customer service. They have a special when purchasing a large beer in that you will receive a hot sake for a penny. And it's decent sake. Not the junk you usually get on happy hour from those other guys. This is a great spot for lunch if you're in the area. and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality sushi at an affordable price.

Outstanding neighborhood sushi bar! Everything is fresh, portions are generous and the food is delicious. RK has a great big menu of fun and inventive american style maki's, entrees and appetizers. Its going to take me a little while to work my way through that menu, but I am up for it. The staff are super friendly too. Check out RK today! Highly recommend.

I love going to this spot for AYCE sushi. The staff is always welcoming when you walk through the door. All the times I've been here the sushi and appetizers come out pretty fast! Will definitely keep going here!

Ask the Community - RK Sushi

    Do you offer unlimited sushi?

No. They don't do AYCE anymore.

I read on Fb that this place is great for happy hour but I can't find any recent mentions of it. Do they still have it? What does it consist of?

    Is there an ACYE option?

    Nope not anymore.

Is there still the all you can eat option available now?

Nope. I came in as of Nov. 18

Hi is this open to dine in yet?

    Yes

Is there a happy hour for al la carte/Togo orders?

    Is sashimi included with AYCE?

No it is not. It includes nigiri, rolls, and kitchen items, but no sashimi.

How long is the wait on a Saturday night?

    Up to an hour

Do they serve all you can eat sushi? And how much?

Yes, they do. I forget the price but it's affordable. You just need to finish all of it or they charge more.

We came here to celebrate my birthday and right off the bat the ambience was amazing! The music, the vibe and our server was wonderful. Started off with the tuna kinilaw. Hubby said and I quote "this is literally the best thing I've ever had in my life!" Got the Taiwanese chicken and it just melt in your mouth like butter. The basil aioli accompanied with this appetizer was just perfection. How do they come up with this? Wagyu corned beef fried rice was also good but definitely not the star of the show! Crispy potatoes were definitely a favorite and that sweet Chinese sausage made it ten times better. Short rib kare kare was so tender. The flavor I wasn't really feeling, but it was still good! The star of the show was definitely the pork tomahawk tocino. So tender, so flavorful! Just when you thought they couldn't get any better. The sticky rice crème brûlée...omggg I want to have this everyday! Please if you were ever hesitant to eat at Animae, you need to now! Everyone needs to try this at least once in their life! We ordered a variety of different appetizers and entrees, and each one was literally perfection in all ways possible! Presentation, texture, and taste, all came together in every single dish to create a unique and lasting memory. The food simply cannot be over hyped, it really is that good. Dessert: After having some of the best food we have ever tasted, we definitely wanted to give their dessert a try as well. We shared the Sticky Rice Creme Brulee. Simply wow! Once again made to perfection. Service: The staff were very friendly and our server was knowledgeable and answered all our questions to help us pick what to order for the evening. She even brought us a complementary desert when she found out we were celebrating an occasion. Ambiance: The restaurant looked and felt upscale. There interior design was very well done. I particularly loved the multiple sources of low lighting that created a calm atmosphere. To Summarize: We had some of the best food of our lives, honestly. You can tell that so much care and planning was put into each and every dish they make. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting and calm. First off, there is free parking available, just circle around the building until you see a garage entrance for retail parking. Two hours for free! Let me first explain the aesthetics of this place. Clean and modern with mid century feel accented with greenery throughout. Please note that they won't seat you until most of your party is present. We came here for Happy Hour which was from 4-6pm from Tuesday to Sunday! This is fantastic that HH includes the weekend!!!! To start, got a wellness shot which had a meld of juices and ginger. A great drink to ready your palate. For cocktails, I tried the Suika Spritz, which was refreshing! The Absolutely Pho-nomenal definitely tasted like cold Pho broth but spiked. It wasn't my favorite drink, but glad I tried it nonetheless. Of course we ordered the $1 oysters, and ordered all three - Baja, Pacific Northwest, & East Coast. It came with some Asian fusion sauces to dress our oysters. My fave was the Baja as these were the freshest! All three were smooth and non briny. On the HH menu we also tried - Bulgogi Birria Vampiro - Tender meat with bulgogi seasoned beef on top of a tostada. Really liked the meld of the two cultures in this dish. Duck Liver Mousse - Comes with rustic bread & crème fraiche. Very duck forward. I liked this because it was rich with flavor. Stone Crab Taco - Loved the nod to Loganisa in this taco! This was by far, my favorite protein dish on the HH menu!!!! Regular Menu - Mango Nasturium Kimchi Salad - I absolutely loved this vibrant and fresh dish!!!! I had to go back for second and thirds! Shishito Peppers with Bonito Flakes - This was definitely a fun and flavorful dish with lots of umami. Dessert - Hotteok and Vanilla Ice Cream - this was my favorite dessert! The pancakes were flaky and delicious!! Bonbunja Tiramisu - Beware! This has a strong coffee taste. It reminded of the strength and flavor profile of a Vietnamese coffee. I can't believe it's not cheesecake - Definitely a mix of a brûlée but with a cheesecake flavor. Confusing but works lol. We met the executive chef, Kyler, who explained and served some of dishes we ordered. The entire staff was so accommodating and even reminded us if we needed our parking validated! Our water never ran empty and our dishes were promptly taken away as we finished. Definitely a place to visit during HH since they offer amazing food and cocktail choices.

My wife and I went here for dinner expecting to eat great food based on all the high reviews and…read morethe upscale price, but we were instead left with disappointment and a big fat check with an unexpected automatic 20% gratuity fee for 2 people. Food: We got several appetizers and 3 entrees. We had the Mango Kimchi Salad, Bulgogi Birria Vampiro, Silkworm Pupa Tacos, Doenjang Risotto, Miso Lingcod, and Braised Short Rib. We got plenty of dishes to try, but unfortunately they were either simply mediocre or had an issue. The Kimchi Salad was too strong in spice and the mangos were unripe and hard. The Birria Vampiro was simply mediocre and sort of bland. Silkworm Pupa Tacos were again sort of bland. The Risotto was undercooked and crunchy instead of 'al dente'. Miso Lingcod had a very fishy taste and not much else. And the Braised Short Rib was too salty. Drinks: I got the Choi's cocktail and my wife got the Gangnam Style espresso martini. Both drinks were very well made and tasted great! Service: Unlike the food, the service was great! From the person who confirmed our reservation, to the staff at the front of the door, and to our server, they were all extremely friendly. We were celebrating an occasion, which we made known when booking and upon sitting down we got a handwritten card with a congratulations note. That was very unexpected and awesome! We also got a couple of complimentary cocktail shots from the bartender while we were there. Overall, I would say the staff and service was extremely good. Parking: The area of San Diego that Choi's is located is unfortunately very bad. Overfilled with homeless, drug addicts, and just plain shady looking people who roam the streets. I was overjoyed when I found out that they give you two hours of complimentary parking in a safe place! So to summarize: The staff that provide great service, the bartender with awesome drinks, and the free parking in a safe place simply do not make up for the main reason we were there: the food. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 was because of all these other factors besides the food. Before paying the bill and leaving, we did let the server know about the issues we found with the food in a very friendly and constructive way. She was thankful for the honesty and the feedback.

Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

The hostess had a note for our anniversary celebration. They also printed a little celebatory note directly on the menu - a great personal touch. Our server was friendly and answered any questions we had. We ordered the beef tartare, smoked aged duck, and the deep fried sand bass. For the drink we ordered the Seasame Soirée. While our food came out pretty slow, I'd say it was worth the wait. We also enjoyed 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly while we waited as part of our anniversary celebration. The restarant itself is decorated beautifully with a jazzy ambiance. The interior had bits of gold and green with a beautiful pearlescent leafy wallpaper. The bar is located in the center and also doubles as a centerpiece to the restuarant. Restrooms are located in the back - there we many private, clean and spacious rooms. Below is a summary of the food we ordered: Beef Tartare (5/5) - Savory, sweet and spicy beef tartare dressed in fish sauce and thai chilis. Paired alongside fresh herbs like cilantro, shiso, argula and radicchio. The sesame rice crackers were light and airy. Smoked Dry Aged Duck (5/5) - Perfectly cooked, sweet and salty aged smoked duck paired with rice noodles, herbs and 2 different sauces. I appreciated the many ways you can wrap and enjoy the duck. I do wish the slices of duck were either smaller or thinner - it's hard to eat in one bite. Whole Fried Sand Bass (4/5) - I'll always order a whole firied fish wherever I go and this was no expection. I loved the sweet & sour ginger sauce. The fish was a bit over-fried in my personal opinion, but the inside is still very soft and tender. Sweet & Sour Rice Noodles (5/5) - Aboslutely delicious! Slippery and cold rice noodles dressed in fish sauce and other seasonings. It's not overpowering at all and goes great with the Whole Fried fish as well. Seasame Soiree Cocktail (5/5) - A very unique drink made with gin, ginger, coconut, seasame seeds and more. It was very fragrant in the best way. The flavor really develops after the first sip. I love how nutty and decadent yet light this drink is. Overall, I had a great experience here and this is one of the top restaurants I've had the pleasure of enjoying in SD. Highly reccomend especially if you like Vietnamese food / fish-sauce forward dishes. (At least for the dishes I ordered)

Really delicious drinks and food in a beautiful setting…read more We were seated basically immediately upon arrival which was nice. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us a good rundown of her favorites. To order, we ended up going with the beef tartare, the artichokes, and the baguette. The baguette was fresh, warm and delicious. The beef tartare was a standout and had a yummy amount of spice. The artichokes were pretty good but aren't a must get. A point was lost here for the time between receiving those starters and our mains (the scallops and half chicken). They were both delicious, but the gap in time was so large that we had to take most of those two to go to meet our next reservation. Had they came out about 20 mins sooner, we would have had more time to enjoy. Recommend nonetheless though! The cocktails were great as well.

Food was great ! So famished that when food came didn't get to take picture! Crab Wontons had generous filling and very delicious as well!! Grilled Salmon served on a sizzling plate with rice and topped with furikake and teriyaki sauce!

That said, the waitress we had was very kind and attentive, and the food was decent, so we decided to give the place another try. After a long day at Legoland, we returned around 6pm and I had called ahead to make a reservation for four. The person on the phone took my name and number, so I assumed we were all set. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even full, but no one greeted us for several minutes. Eventually, a waiter came over, and when I mentioned our reservation, he seemed confused and said they don't take reservations for parties under six. I tried to explain that someone had taken my information over the phone, but he interrupted me multiple times and didn't let me finish. He then walked over to another group behind us and asked if they were there first, even though we had arrived before them, which was frustrating. We were eventually told there was space available at the bar seating (bar stools) instead of a table. At that point, we were tired and hungry, so we accepted. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. The waiter seemed rushed and disorganized--he couldn't remember our order and had to ask us which dish belonged to who when the food came out. As for the food, it was okay but not memorable. My ramen was just average--the pork was dry and the egg was overcooked. Overall, the food is decent, but the service really needs improvement. This particular waiter clearly needs more training, or possibly a different role, as the level of service did not meet basic expectations for a restaurant. Our second visit left a bad impression, especially since it was our last night in San Diego. Sadly, we won't be coming back.

The restaurant has so much character, with dim lighting and walls covered in signatures from past diners that make you feel a real sense of community. Eric and his wife really make the restaurant what it is. They are kind, generous, and genuinely good people who care about their customers. You can see the hard work and heart they put into the food; they are so warm and it makes you feel like you're getting to know them. It's a great spot for mixed groups of vegans and meat-eaters, and I noticed a lot of older families and couples there as well--in my opinion, it would make a great date spot. The food is incredibly thoughtful in a way that feels very personal. We started with a complimentary marinated tofu salad with a unique beet sauce, and the marinated tofu itself was excellent--honestly the best I've had in a while. I was told it's actually hand-made in-house, and you can really taste that quality. They also gave us fried tofu which was a hit with my friends. Eric was even kind enough to give us extra tofu to take home, and following his recommendation, my mother used it to make a fish soup the next day that was delicious. I ordered a modified pork tonkatsu rice noodle soup, and it had a warm, nurturing quality that made me feel right at home. It's a great fusion spot, and because there is so much soul in the food, it isn't monotonous at all. Eric was so attentive that he even brought me extra broth when he noticed my noodles had soaked it all up. They even provided complimentary ice cream and a glutinous rice dish at the end. You go here because you want to feel nurtured and eat food that is good for your body and your soul, and the cherry on top is getting to support such good people. I definitely want to come back when I'm in town.
