It's a very different pho experience. I ordered the original pho. The soup did have the full spectrum of unami. Slightly less herbal aroma than average pho, I think. But what made this very different than usual, was the soup didn't feel complete when I tasted it. Until I put the lime juice in it. It added the punch that soup needed, and flavor felt complete. It doesn't matter if the waiter is awful, the food comes out really, really late because he forgets to pick it up, even though you tell him you're on a time schedule. Came here due to its good reviews and thousands of reviews, but what a disappointment. The pho broth lukewarm. That's the biggest red flag. The bowl is also the tiniest bowl I've ever seen for pho. I had chosen the rare steak, flank brisket, and tripe. I had multiple pieces that I could barely chew, not sure what it was. The broth was flavorful, but on the salty side. We have walked by, parked in front, looked inside, but never went in...LOL! But I felt we should try them out since they are dog friendly. Since we were there right after they opened, we sat in the front table so Cako could be in the corner. She watched all the workers from where she was standing. I ordered a Hawaiian inspired cocktail which was very good! Apparently, they have a signature peanut butter shot that I will have to try next time. We started with the fresh spring rolls with shrimp. This is the birthplace of Skrewball, the cloying peanut butter whiskey. But you probably came here for noodles, not booze (although they do have quite the beer and alcohol menu). You can get Skrewball here but you shouldn't. Ask for the ORIGINAL peanut butter whiskey. It tastes nothing like Skrewball. It's like drinking a shot of fresh, slightly boozy, blended peanut butter. It is fantastic. (Apparently, they cannot bottle and sell the fresh stuff because, well, it's freshly made and just wouldn't be able to be practically sold commercially. That makes sense, unfortunately.) The food is fine here. It's nothing amazing but it will hit the spot. For an appetizer, we tried the fried dumplings. The menu notes they are deep fried and indeed they were. I would say there were left in the fryer a bit too long. They tasted good but they could have been better. For my entree, I tried the 1502 Special pho, which is supposedly made with kobe wagyu beef. The beef was fine, although it tasted like normal beef to me, and there were a ton of rice noodles in my bowl. The star of the dish was the broth itself which had a good flavor. There are many other places in San Diego with better pho but this one was just fine. The cold bun (vermicelli) noodles with chicken was fine. This is not the most exciting dish but it is fine for what it is. They have some delicious non-alcoholic fruity drinks, like mango and pineapple. Don't miss out on those, if you aren't into alcohol. Overdue review for OB Noodle House in Ocean Beach offers asian fusion food. As with many restaurants in the area, parking is a challenge and a pain in the derrière. This restaurant was featured on DDD Diners Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri, whose original name is Ferry FYI. There's indoor, outdoor seating and is dog friendly at this casual restaurant that would be considered a diner dive. Service from staffers was great, helpful and attentive but it should be because they automatically charge your bill with a gratuity service charge, so make sure you do NOT pay an additional tip!! The menu highlighted many selections but we chose the recommendations from DDD's spikey bleach blonde host. The bowl of Pho was our starter, the bowl was hugh and plentiful, after a few sips of the broth, I was not interested in eating the noodles, as I had enough and wanted to eat the other foods we ordered. Honestly, wouldn't order pho again, it was good but not the best pho I've had just solely based on the broth's taste. The bbq wings were very tasty, however, I prefer wings to be crunchy and these appeared to have been baked and not crunchy but very smoky and flavorful. My friend had the pork belly taco made with the soft bun and he liked it. The sizzling Basa whole fish and the sizzling short ribs were both dazzling show stoppers in presentation both delicious. But it seems both the fish and the short ribs were marinated in the same seasoned concoctions as they tasted the same however, the short ribs did taste best, hands down! The upbeat music blasting as we dined added a great vibe. This restaurant attracts all diners with the expansive food selections that there's something for everyone. While I'm not a hugh fan of Guy Ferry Fieri, but the show featuring this restaurant caught my attention enough for me to visit. This is my second visit to OB Noodle House. It's a fun, super-casual, not quite dive bar atmosphere. Both times I've been here (once for lunch mid-week and dinner today: Sunday 03/01/26) the service has been very friendly and efficient. Tonight they were super busy, but our server still had time to recommend a couple of his favorite things. We ordered 12 wings, the chicken lettuce wraps, the #10 Pho, and the Hong Kong seafood chow fun. Everything was amazing, full of flavor, well thought out, and delicious. The only thing about OB Noodle House that makes me sad, is that I live way up in the North County and can't eat here as often as I want! Even though I've lived in SD for awhile, I've never tried OB noodle house. I had always heard good things about it and also knew that Guy Fieri visited before which helped boost its popularity. Me and my partner ended up getting the spicy garlic wings as an appetizer as we heard that was what they were most famous for. We also ended up getting a pho and the charbroiled chicken with rice to try out. Although the wings had a good garlic flavor and were crispy I would say that they were not that big. I have had small wings before which isn't usually an issue but for the price I paid I would have expected some larger wings. My partner got the pho and we both felt that the broth was somewhat sweet. She commented that overall the pho was just OK but nothing special. As for the rice dish, the amount of chicken to rice was disappointing as the plate ended up being mostly rice. Flavor wise it did have a charbroiled taste to the chicken and the pickled veggies on the side weren't bad either. Service was great, absolutely no problems there. Overall, the food here does not taste bad but it's not exceptional. Part of the issue here is also the price unfortunately since I feel it doesn't justify the amount of protein you get on certain dishes( such as the wings or rice plate). Stopped in again and overall had a solid experience. The house margarita wasn't great, it's premade and overpriced for what it was. The Paloma tasted much better. They have a ton of drink options and new holiday cocktails. The bartender was super chill and friendly. Food-wise, everything hit the spot. Mediocre experience that was compounded by high expectations. I'll start with the good: the pho broth is pretty solid. The not so good: the music is way too loud. Everyone else has already said this, but it's true. It smelled like actual garbage can juice in the communal sitting area. The floors, tables, and chairs were sticky so everything just felt kinda grimy. We moved inside because it really did smell bad. One pair of our chopsticks were dirty. The pho broth to noodle ratio was off in my opinion. I think the bowl they use is just too small because it couldn't contain the noodles and vegetables and an appropriate amount of broth. I've been coming here for years thanks to my sister who lives in SD. This is where she usually takes me for a bite before we watch the sunset on the other side where the cliffs are. Service here has never been consistent. It's always a hit or miss. We had a super late lunch the day after thanksgiving after spending a few hours at Sea World so we were starving. Just "wingin'" it... Came here specifically to try the Spicy Garlic Chicken Wings after seeing Guy Fieri hype them up on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Honestly? They were just... okay. The heat was there but the flavor profile didn't quite hit it for me. They were a bit one-note, and while the crunch was decent, they weren't anything to write home about. PARKING -arrive early because it's only street parking and it's likely that you'll have to walk far. We usually get a spot within a few blocks. That's the main reason why I wouldn't give 5 star. FOOD We like the garlic edamame and my personal favorite is the Tofu Dry Chow Fun. Even if you don't like tofu, still try the Dry Chow Fun with your preferred protein. Came here right before the Covid pandemic and only had an average experience then. Came back almost 6 years later and my mind has changed! I ordered the pho, which had brisket and rare steak. The broth was delicious. I usually add extras like hoisin and sriracha but it didn't need it. The spicy garlic wings we shared were tasty. The mango sake was great. Egg rolls were fresh. OB Noodle House is an authentic feeling Asian noodle house with a lot of family style seating and dishes. Parking is tough in the area as it is only street parking. We were seated quickly on a Saturday evening at a picnic style table with another family of four. They do have smaller tables for individual parties, but they do have a bunch of larger picnic table style tables for larger parties or communal type seating. It wasn't a problem for us. Food came out super quick and was always hot and fresh. We ordered the spring rolls, chicken lettuce wraps and pan seared noodles with beef and vegetables. Everything was good, but I wasn't expecting the pan seared noodles to be fried and crispy. They were still good and softened up with soaked in the brown sauce, but just not what I was expecting. Came here to try the pho and Spicy Garlic Wings since the reviews were solid. We arrived around 6:30 pm and were lucky to get a shared bench table facing the street right away with no wait. The heaters above the seating were a nice touch, especially in the evening. We were seated promptly, given water right away, and the service was friendly--the server checked in on us shortly after. We ordered the Garlic Spicy Wings and two pho dishes (#2 and #9). The wings and chicken drumsticks were crispy on the outside and tender inside. Everything was great, soft noodles were tasty, my fried rice had quite a bit of chili flakes, so spicier than I would have wanted but still tasty, and the ribs... delicious. All was great UNTIL... on the table 1 foot away... comes crawling over... Christina cockroach asking to hang out! A cockroach was walking all over the table and when I went to tell a worker she just didnt really know what to do? Took about 10 minutes for her to come back to look for it. She got grossed out/scared and called a guy from the back to come out. He came out and killed it with what looked like a cleaning rag and nothing was really said? No apology for the uninvited guest or anything? I wound up just asking for my check and a box and scaddadled out of there. We had a good visit here while my partner had a conference in San Diego. We dropped by for dinner without a reservation and were able to get seated pretty quickly. The inside is a casual yet comfortable vibe that seems akin to the normal San Diego restaurants that we've visited so far. I came to try their dry noodles, which were really good and my partner was really excited about trying their wings because he's heard amazing things about them online. We also got some melon, flavored sake, and I got a cocktail with Mezcal, both of which were good. The service was incredible! We made a phone call to make sure they would be able to seat us and they missed the call and even took the time to call us back. Staff was also nice enough to make sure we had enough battery to get back to our hotel, and kept our waters full and checked on our drinks from the bar without us asking. Ambiance is a hit or miss depending on what you like. This restaurant also has a bar inside so it is a little loud and can get pretty crowded, but it is very relaxed on the outdoor patio (so we decided to sit there and had a good experience). I was expecting more from the food than what we got based on the presentations and mentions on the menu that this restaurant was featured on the food network. We ordered the OB special, the 1502 special, a mango mocktail, and a watermelon mocktail. I've been coming here for years, and love that it's still around, and that for the most part it still has its staples--- like the spicy garlic wings. Enjoy the pho and the vermicelli bowls. I see they have been changing up their menus in the last couple of years. Particularly enjoy how restaurants have been adding NA drinks to their menus. I agree with some other reviewers that dining here was a little bit weird. Some of the staff was super attentive and nice and other staff were very dismissive and rude. Not a lot of tables in the establishment and one very large table for communal seating, which felt very cramped and slightly awkward. Unfortunately, service and overall experience is what I recall predominantly over food flavor or quality. I tried the 12 rare steak and 19 seafood, both with veggies instead of noodles. They were both great but I definitely liked the steak much more! The broth wasn't super salty and I wasn't paying for it an hour later with dehydration or the next morning with a puffy face. We decided in the Vietnamese BBQ - Charbroiled Beef with Steam Rice. Along with the rice and bbq beef, it came with a side of pho broth and pickeled veggies. The portion was perfect and very tasty! The service was great, and our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Parking wasn't too bad, either.
