WHOLE IN THE WALL (3.25 stars) Asian soups come in with the cure when feeling under the weather. Was craving wonton soup and too lazy to make my own. But maybe I should have just made my own. Came here and the place is like a to-go spot for locals who crave authentic Asian food. It's a place where you see them old Asian parents customers that have no shame uncomfortably starring at you the entire time from their table. It's like there were always eyes just starring as I ate. On to the food... WONTON AND DUMPLING NOODLE SOUP ($14.79) - ordered my bowl with egg noddles. it came out generously and quickly. Presentation looked good. Flavor was good but a little too "shrimp-y" tasting for my liking. I counted about 4 dumplings - two normal me round and two oblong ones stuffed with mystery meat. Will I be back? Maybe. But not in a rush too as there are many other places to be had. Until the next review...

Wonton and dumpling soup with rice noodles

I've always seen a lot of people going here from the outside and wanted to try this place for a long time. Hubby finally said yes and the first time we tried it a couple of years ago, we loved their rice noodle soup with wontons. The servers are always very nice. When you order, you don't even wait too long. Food is served right away. The place is not fancy but it's always clean. For the pics I included, it's for our latest to go order. We will always return here for their authentic wonton and dumpling soups with rice noodles! Highly recommend you try it!

    Satay Beef egg noodle soup

Came here for some take out because my local friend recommended this place. He recommended the dried beef chow fun. While looking at the menu the satay beef egg noodle soup caught my eye so I got that as well, on top of a lot of other things (We had a big group). The noodles on the beef chow fun was smaller than expected but the flavor was on point. But he started was the satay beef noodle soup. Very authentic cantonese/hong kong style satay sauce paired with tender beef and very authentic egg noodles, all bathing in yummy warm broth. My wife and I liked it so much, we went back the very next day to eat at the restaurant. And when we did eat in, the service was great, everyone was very nice.

    44. Salty Fish with CHICKEN Fried Rice (wouldnt get again) salty indeed

At around 12:30PM on a Friday, there was no wait. Got the: - Pan fried Rice Cake w/ Egg $9.49: came with a vinegar dipping sauce. Drier than what I'm used to, and thinner/crispier cuts of rice cake. Small portion, but good to try. I probably wouldn't get this again tho. - My Tho Clear Noodle Soup w Egg noodle and Dai Glass noodle $15.99: I appreciated that they were able to accommodate my request for 2 types of noodles, but the type of egg noodle had an aftertaste that threw me off (celeries in this also was not my fave). I liked the various sorts of innards: e.g. liver, intestine and other meats like xa xiu and shrimp. Wouldn't get again, though SO liked it. - Salty Fish w Chicken Fried Rice $16.69: unique, but the salty fish was indeed SALTY. Hard to finish as there were areas where the saltiness was especially concentrated. - Duck Leg Noodle Soup $16.99: flavorful broth, tender duck. comes with pickled young papaya. pretty good! - Beef Chow Fun (Dry) $15.99: I crave this, and it hit the spot. Wasn't oily at all! Found a rubber band in my My Tho, but I still finished it. The manager was going to take it off the bill but I already paid for it... so he hooked it up with an agar coconut which was nice of him. Service is fast and food is authentic. Parking was easy too.

The wonton noodle soup here is so bomb! The wontons taste freshly wrapped and the egg noodle is perfectly al dente. The chow fun noodle is done perfectly as well- not soggy like many other places I've tried. I do think they can use less salt on the meat but overall still very tasty. I am also glad to see they serve rice porridge in addition to rice and noodles. The service is attentive and they check on you often. The restaurant itself isn't particularly large or themed but is clean and welcoming. Overall a very solid spot for a good meal

Special Coco Jelly. Amazingly delicious. They take milk from the coconut, make a custard-like jelly and pour it back in. YUM!!!

I love, love, love TKN! There are so many great Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants around Mira Mesa but I always find myself at Tim Ky. My absolute favorite dishes are the Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings, the Pork and Dumpling Soup and the Crispy Noodle with Beef (bird's nest I call it). Sometimes I get the whole coconut for dessert. Oh my goodness, I get cravings for this one! It's no nonsense food. Consistently delicious and pretty quick. We usually go after church on a Sunday. It's pretty busy with families, which I love. It shows their dedication to being a family restaurant. It's always clean inside and the servers do a great job. Thank you TKN!

My friend who have been helping me with my haircut for many years recommended Tim Ky Noodle. I was advised to order the salted fish fried rice along with the dry noodles separately from the wonton soup. I took his advice and found ourselves in the restaurant. We were seated right away and ordered exactly the salted fried rice and the noodles. We definitely love the fried rice and the salted fish with it, which reminds me of the "tuyo," made of salted herring or sardine, growing up in the Philippines. The wonton noodle was good. We also munch on the sweetened chili peppers and surely enhanced the quality of our meals. The place was clean and the food was good although I would suggest the servers could be a little more friendly.

Everything we had was delicious! Have you had the seafood fried rice; our friend had the beef and asparagus stir-fry; and I had the steamed swai with ginger and bok choy. The restaurant is light and bright with plenty of seating and service was prompt. We highly recommend this place if you like Asian fusion style dishes as well as traditional Vietnamese food.

One of the best places for egg noodles soup. Its gotten pricier but I suppose other places too. Service is hit or miss. Either they're paying attention to you or not. Its very small inside. Its a typical hole in the wall mom and pops with great tasting food.

Shrimp chow fun dry and fresh spring roll
    Tammy R.

I love this place, I come here often and it's my easy to go to spot for a good noodle or rice dish. Today I did the chow fun dry with shrimp and a fresh spring roll. Simple and filling meal to hit that mid day lunch crunch. I was pressed for time so I didn't get my sparkling lemonade soda but there's always another time for it. The restaurant is always kept clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. Service can be slow if you come in during a busy lunch time or dinner time but they try to stay attentive to you and your needs. This is a small family business, they do their best and the good is always top notch.

This is the SECOND TIME they messed up my togo order. Last time, we ordered sate beef noodle dry, but they gave us the beef tripe version. This time, we ordered two sate beef noodle DRY dishes, but they served both as SOUPS. We live far from Mira Mesa, so my husband had to drive all that way just because I wanted the sate beef noodles DRY. It's frustrating because they need to listen carefully to what we want, even when we order over the phone. We've spent our money and effort only to receive wrong orders (a total of three so far). Very disappointed!!!

    Vietnamese iced coffee
    Christine D.

It's becoming a bit of tradition for my family to stop Tim Ky for lunch on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. We're happy they're open and serving delicious food. The wonton and dumpling soup with thin egg noodles is my go to, and I love a strong cup of Vietnamese iced coffee. We were lucky to be seated immediately as they had a waiting list outside. Service is quick.

With baby, let the feast begin!

What kind of meat is used to make the broth?

I’m not sure. It’s clear broth, I’m thinking it’s some sort of stock. Simple tasting like a chicken based.

We…read morereceived a text saying our number was ready for seating, and my husband and I walked into the restaurant within five minutes. Once inside, we stood there for about 15 minutes, and not one employee acknowledged us or asked if we were waiting to be seated. There appeared to be no hostess managing the front or any clear process for letting someone know that your number had been called. Eventually, I told my husband to flag down a waiter just to find out what was going on and how we were supposed to alert someone that we were there. When he finally spoke with an employee, we were told that our number had been called and that after five minutes they considered us a "no-show." That explanation made absolutely no sense because we had been standing inside the restaurant for at least 15 minutes, and during that entire time, we never heard anyone call a number or a name for ANYONE. To claim we were a no-show when we were physically standing there waiting to be acknowledged was extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, things didn't improve much from there. I'm from Dallas, Texas, where we have plenty of great Vietnamese restaurants, so I know what good pho and Vietnamese food should taste like. Unfortunately, this experience fell short. I ordered the chicken pho, and my husband ordered the bbq pork vermicelli. For appetizers, we ordered the egg rolls and the pork paste spring rolls. I did enjoy the pork paste spring rolls, but the egg rolls were very greasy and tasted like they had been re-fried. My chicken pho was also disappointing. The noodles were cut in half and were so mushy that they practically disintegrated in the broth. The service was also lacking, and the staff did not come across as particularly friendly or welcoming. While the pork paste spring rolls was a bright spot, the overall quality of the food and service left a lot to be desired. Don't believe the hype.

Today, it's one of the most well-known Vietnamese restaurants in the city, and after this visit, I can definitely see why. One of my favorite things about coming here is the location. Even though it's right in Convoy, parking has never been an issue for me. I usually avoid the area because finding a spot can be a headache, but Phuong Trang has a large parking lot that makes stopping by so much easier. I came in for a quick takeout lunch. One thing to know before you go is they don't accept Apple Pay, so make sure to bring a physical card or cash. The staff was incredibly welcoming. They greeted me when I walked in, gave me plenty of time to look over the menu, and never made me feel rushed. That kind of hospitality really stood out. I ordered the Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli and the Shrimp, Pork & Jellyfish Salad. The salad comes with shredded green papaya, celery, cucumber, carrots, shrimp, pork, jellyfish strips, fresh mint, crushed peanuts, and shrimp chips. The salad was refreshing with plenty of shrimp and jellyfish throughout. I especially liked the crunch from the green papaya. My only complaint was that the dressing felt a little one dimensional. I wish it had a little more brightness to bring out the fresh herbs and vegetables. It was still enjoyable, though. The Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli was my favorite of the two. It came with vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, pickled daikon and carrots, crushed peanuts, plus five grilled beef rolls wrapped around scallions. The beef had a delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The only downside was that the inside of the rolls was a little chewy since it didn't get the same char as the outside. Even so, every bite was packed with flavor, so it wasn't enough to take away from the dish. Between the friendly service, quick turnaround for takeout, and solid food, I can see why Phuong Trang has stayed so popular for all these years. I'd happily come back and keep working my way through their menu.

Service: Great, the servers check in a decent amount of the time and you can usually flag them down if you need anything Food: This is where my review goes downhill. The only thing I would say is worth getting at this restaurant is the baguette with butter (no add-ons, caviar or whatever they have going on at the time -- its just not worth it -- when I got the black truffle on my butter the shavings were so thin they might as well have not been there since it made no difference in flavor) The tamarind wings are one dimensional -- the wings are fried well, but lack in flavor, its straight *overwhelming* tamarind with no other notes. House made egg noodles lack any sort of noticeable flavor, most of it stemming from the Lap Cheong but most definitely not worth the price tag that it holds ($36) The dry aged duck is where I feel the most "scammed out of". Ive gotten this both times i've been here. Both times its been overly salty. I understand its dry-aged, but the saltiness overtakes any other flavor of the duck. The sauces try to make up for the lack of flavor but they just cant carry the entire dish on their own -- especially not for a $100 price tag. The first time I ordered this dish (Jan 2026) the duck came out cold-warm, and the second time I came here (July 2026) it came out warmer.
