Minh Ky is a straight up gem. A plain little box in a Little Saigon strip mall serving Chinese dishes through the mind of a Vietnamese chef. This is one of those San Diego spots that proves the city is a real food paradise, as long as you chase the ethnic lanes and skip the places built for photos instead of flavor. The menu is wild. Thirty two soup permutations. Duck, seafood, chicken, egg noodles, rice noodles, dry, wet. It can overwhelm anyone walking in cold, but the regulars (and this white boy) know the move. Duck egg noodle soup with wontons. That's the anchor dish, and the reason people keep coming back. The rest of the lineup hits just as hard. The roast pork is dialed in. The beef sate chow fun is a sleeper that deserves more noise. The crispy chicken leg is pure comfort food, no notes. Ownership changed a couple years back and the kitchen never missed a beat. I found this place during early lockdown and it's been more reliable than my sourdough starter or my Peloton, and it's aged better than my swimming pool sized vat of hand sanitizer. That kind of consistency earns loyalty. Minh Ky is humble, loud, comforting, and exactly what San Diego does best.
Just a no frills and solid chinese/viet fusion diner. I've heard great things but tbh when I went it was just okay. Nothing went wrong but I wouldn't go out of my way for it Chow fun: Maybe get? I love me a good chow fun and this dish satisfied my craving... but just barely. Wonton noodle soup: Getttt So comforting and yummy. The only downside is that the entire bowl only has 2 wontons so that was very disappointing especially if you share it family style Parking lot is small but it wasn't full when we went. And service was friendly but nothing fancy. Food: 7/10 Service: 6/10 Atmosphere: 6/10 Value: 6/10
07/20/26 Food & Price: They offer the best duck noodles ($13.50), dumpling soup ($13.75), and wonton soup you can find in town. They also have a large selection of other dishes on the menu, all at reasonable prices. That said, the iced coffee ($4.25) was not as satisfying as I remembered. Service: The service is quick and attentive. For example, when a staff member saw me walking around other tables looking for pickled jalapeños, she came over right away to ask what I needed. That was excellent service. Parking & Tips: Parking can be difficult at times. I suggest parking in a nearby lot and walking over. Enjoy!
I was craving Viet food after a 6 hour flight and decided to try Minh Ky after seeing good reviews on Reddit. It was filled with older Vietnamese people so it's definitely authentic, but I was a bit disappointed by how bland everything was.
The Crispy Chicken Leg is so good with wildly crispy skin going nicely with the sauce. I love the fact that this sweet soy sauce is not overpowering and overly salty. The sauce of Orange Chicken is tangy and delicious, but I would prefer the chicken skin get crispier.
Minh ky is considered one of East san diego staple asian restaurant!!! Parking is horrible. They do have a back lot behind the building but its usually packed as well. Service is always super fast and friendly. Little whole in the wall and place is pretty small so might have to wait a little. Its feels very homey, like your walking it your mom house for dinner. I always get my usually wonton noodle soup dry with the soup on the side because I never finish and can bring home. You have to get the Chinese donut, fried pork fat, and pickled papaya!!! Lemonade is delicious, juat the right amount of sweet and sour. There shaken beef has good flavor but a bit on the sweet side for me. Their soy sauce fried chicken was flavorful, crispy, tender and juicy.
I went on a Monday afternoon and there was a few parking spots, usually this parking lot of full because it's a small parking lot with a few businesses in the shopping center. There wasn't a wait and we were seated right away. The woman that helped us was really nice and sweet. So the customer service 5/5 Comfortable seating, plenty of sauces and utensils at the table. And it wasn't crammed in there. We ordered two orders of the Roasted Duck Leg egg/ rice noodle soup and Crispy chicken leg. The roasted duck was amazing and such a great price for so much food. The soup was also amazing with great flavor. Crispy chicken leg was also delicious with the sauce it came with. 5/5
Minh Ky was a place we stumbled upon, and I am so glad we did as it was highly nostalgic for me. Walking in I immediately noticed a woman in the back folding wontons. Ok.. that's always a promising sign. Then I noticed the pleathora of sauces and seasonings at each table: soy sauce, chili oil, red vinegar, white pepper, pickled peppers, Sriracha, oyster sauce. Ok.. even more promising. Then I saw the menu with seemingly endless options. Yep, this place is legit. And reminds me of a place I grew up at in the Bay Area. Except here they play Drake. The food was delicious. The duck egg noodle came with a generous portion of duck. I appreciated that the wonton wrapper and rice noodles actually had a distinct texture. I may have added too much spice to mine, but I have no regrets. The cashew pork was a nice surprise to my bowl. While you may have to get lucky with parking (we parked on the curb and was just fine), and get through the slight language barrier, it is a wonderful experience and is worth a try.
Parking 3/5 -Small plaza parking lot with about 20 spots with awkward flow of traffic that can get messy if it's slightly busy. Service 5/5 -Friendly staff, seated quickly and food came out quick as well while they had a full house. Food 4/5 -Roast duck egg noodles soup, bouncy egg noodles in comforting wonton soup and plenty of refreshing green onions. The roast duck comes on a separate plate, it's smokey and juicy and savory. Great deal for the portion size. -Crispy chicken leg, marinaded chicken leg that tasted like it was flash fried with golden crispy skin and soft tender meat. The gem is the sauce it sits in, tasted like a plum based sauce that brought life to the crispy chicken. Ambiance 4/5 -No frills small restaurant that you go to get your fix of noodles or rice or other cravings homey Asian food cravings, medium noise.
A nostalgic spot that I had to revisit now that I have adult money and real cravings. Minh Ky Restaurant is one of those places I remember going to as a kid, even though we lived 25 minutes away at the time, so you already know it had to be worth it. A lot of reviews rave about their duck, so I came back specifically to try it. The parking lot is honestly a nightmare. People are sitting on hazards everywhere because there's barely any space. It's tight, confusing to navigate, and street parking is basically full. The surrounding plazas are covered in tow-away signs too, so just be prepared. Once we finally parked and walked in, the restaurant was pretty empty with only one other table. We were greeted and seated right away. The menu has a few specials and a mix of Vietnamese-Chinese dishes like noodle soups, rice plates, and stir fry items. We decided to split the bo luc lac and a 1/4 roast duck. At the table, you get fully set up with sauces and condiments like sriracha, hoisin, jalapenos, salt, sugar, pepper, soy sauce, and vinegar. Our food came out pretty quickly, but the second the duck hit the table, my husband and I just looked at each other. It was clearly over-roasted, almost burnt. The plate was also extremely hot which made it feel like it had been reheated. The skin didn't have that glossy, flavorful finish you expect from good roast duck and the meat was tough. There was barely any meat on the pieces we got which made it even more disappointing. Especially coming back from San Francisco where we had amazing duck for cheaper, this just didn't compare at all. The bo luc lac, on the other hand, was really good and honestly one of the better ones I've had. It's a Vietnamese shaken beef dish where tender beef cubes are seared and tossed in a savory garlic soy based sauce. Here, the beef was super tender and not chewy at all. The sauce soaked perfectly into the rice and every bite was really satisfying. They also layer lettuce underneath which soaks up all that sauce and was actually one of my favorite parts at the end. It also comes with tomato slices, which I personally don't enjoy, but that's just me. If I could give half stars I would, but this rounds down more than it goes up. It's frustrating because I know from other reviews that the duck we got wasn't the norm, but at the same time it's hard to ignore that multiple people saw that plate and still decided to serve it.
Minh Ky Restaurant is a longtime hole-in-the-wall noodle spot that's been around for years. Under new ownership for a couple of years now, it still serves tasty, generously portioned noodles. I usually get the crispy chicken with dry egg noodles (4/5), while the missus goes for the duck with egg noodles (4/5). The chicken stays perfectly crispy, and the duck is juicy and well-seasoned. The restaurant is very small and can get crowded, especially at lunch. Service is simple, and there's little in the way of ambience. Parking is very tight. Despite that, it's a solid spot for a quick, satisfying lunch or takeout.
Really good, great prices, great service, place was slamming the entire time. This is a real treasure! I've never seen a restaurant be so crowded before the entire time we were there. And so many delivery people came to pickup food too. Imagine how busy the kitchen staff is! Food is that good though.
This unsuspecting spot did not disappoint. It was highlighted in a food bloggers Best Chinese Restaurants in San Diego. Parking in limited in this tiny lot, so I usually grab a banh mi at a neighboring shop. They offer a wide variety of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. I came specifically for the Roasted Duck Noodle Soup. You have the option of wide flat rice noodles or thin egg noodles. The server said it's better with the egg noodles. Before I could snap photos of the interior of the restaurant she was already back with my food. Less than 5 minutes for sure, which makes sense. Duck is already roasted just needed to chop it, blanch the noodles, ladle the broth and garnish with onions. This was a fairly large portion, could have shared it but I was hungry so I gobbled it up. Generous 1/4 of a duck, maybe 8oz of egg noodles swimming in broth. I do appreciate that the duck was served on the side because it was rather greasy. The host was friendly, can't say my server was but that is typical for Asian restaurants. She did not come back to check on me. All the condiments and utensils are self-serve on the table. You don't come for the service. The whole duration of lunch, they had a steady flow of dine-in and to-go guests. When I was about finished, there was an elder man standing waiting for a table. I invited him to sit down at my table as I was getting up to pay my tab. I imagine this place gets pretty packed for dinner. I think I'll stick for weekday lunch to avoid a wait. Lots more dishes to try.

This place was recommended to me by an Instagram post on the best and most authentic Chinese restaurants in San Diego. It did not disappoint!!!! Wow, it's been so long since I've had you tiao (Chinese fried donuts) with soy milk! Their duck noodle soup and congee were also delicious. Protip: if you order a noodle soup, they will ask if you want your soup on the side. Don't do it because they barely have me enough soup to cover my noodles and I'm pretty sure if I hadn't gotten it on the side they would have given me more. But I haven't found a Chinese place this homey and authentic in San Diego in a long time. You know it's legit when you show up on a Sunday morning and the place is full of Chinese people. Planning to take my family here some day as I am sure they would love it. Very no-frills, fast service. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy so I don't think I would come here in the dark. They do have a small parking lot up front, but it can get messy so I recommend street parking in the neighborhood right next door where there seems to always be ample street parking. read more

There was some additional parking behind the building that people may not know about. I have seen this business listed in numerous "best of" lists for this enclave of SD. The inside had around ten tables so we're talking about a maximum seating capacity of no more than fifty customers. The noodles were the featured items on the menu, specifically the Rice Noodle Soups and the Crispy Noodle Plates. Those two categories occupied an entire page of the menu. My eyes wandered to the Chow Fun section that had over a dozen varieties which was more than I have seen anywhere else in town. Instead of the prototypical Beef Chow Fun, I selected the Sate version for my order. An oval plate was brought to my table within ten minutes. I noticed there were a lot of onions in the mix, both white and green. Some tomato slices were also included which I found unusual and did nothing to enhance the dish. The pieces of beef were tender and covered with satay sauce. For $15.50, the price was on the lower side, however more rice noodles were needed. I would have preferred using half the number of onions too. The overall execution of the Sate Beef Chow Fun was between three and four stars. read more

My friends and I really enjoy the food here. Comfort food at it's finest. You cannot go wrong with getting their crispy chicken leg rice noodle. The chicken skin has that nice crunch and the chicken still remains tender and juicy. Their Vietnamese coffee is usually good, but lately it's not as sweet as it used to be. Just tell the waitress and they will adjust it accordingly to your taste. It's a small parking lot, so come early to avoid parking at the street. read more
Came here for the very first time on a lunch break and I was really excited to try this place as I have heard that it was wonderful. To say parking is a challenge would be an understatement, it's horrific. So, if you're coming here you're most likely going to have to park in the residential areas in the surrounding areas. I came at 1130 and it was a packed house. Service was friendly and very quick which I appreciated. I ordered the Tom yum soup with egg noodles and it was just okay. I wasn't blown away by it and I think it may be because I went in with super high hopes. I want to come back and try something else. The broth was flavorful but it didn't pack that tom yum punch I'm used to. It wasn't very spicy at all. I got the combination of seafood and pork but it was mostly seafood. Dumpling & Wonton Egg Noodle Soup: broth was very light, mild umami flavor, noodles had a good texture. wontons were soft & had lightly seasoned pork filling. Sate Beef Tripe Egg Noodle Soup: it's strong in the sate flavor and comes with various meats, heavier soup overall. Crispy Chicken Leg: crispy exterior, light soy sauce flavor, some parts were a little dry. Would return for the Dumpling & Wonton Egg Noodle Soup! read more
Hands down, this place is incredibly delicious. I've been craving something similar to Tung Kee from the Bay Area for the longest time and I'm so happy to have finally found a spot that compares! if anything, this one mightt even be better. (Made a TikTok video on this too on laurzlk23) If you're a fan of fresh, flavorful noodles and perfectly roasted chicken or duck, I highly recommend checking this place out. I came in feeling a bit under the weather and the hot comforting soup instantly healed me! I ordered the roasted chicken and it was outstanding. crispy skin, juicy meat, and packed with flavor. A lot of other ppl rave about it and they aren't wrong! I can't recommend this dish enough. I also tried the classic combination rice noodle soup, which had a clean, flavorful broth, fresh toppings, and bouncy rice noodles. So satisfying and filling! Also got the garlic shaking beef with rice omggg so tender and flavorful! Parking: 8/10 They have a parking lot, which is convenient. It can get busy, but finding a spot wasn't too difficult. Food: 10/10 Everything was fresh, delicious, and incredibly well done. This is definitely becoming a staple for me in SD! A great local spot that's been my go to for a quick Chinese hole in the wall fix. The atmosphere, staff, food, and prices are all solid. Parking can be a bit tight, but it's well worth a visit if you're in the area! My usual orders are the Roast Duck with egg noodles (dry) and the Fried Chicken Leg with egg noodles (dry). I'll occasionally get the standard soup version, but the dry noodles really hits, coated in sauce with the soup on the side for sipping. Ahhh I already miss it lol read more

I've been coming to this place since I first moved here over a decade ago. The owners changed a few year ago. Sweet: even though ownership changed they still have the same servers that remember us even though we don't come as much as we used to. The menu for the most part is still the same. They still offer our favorite items such as the salty pork, honey walnut shrimp, chow Mein, house fried rice and wonton egg noodle soup. The restaurant has since new ownership is much cleaner inside. You can either make it family style or have one entree for yourself. One entree is plentiful for one person. Sour: our most recent experience there were some slight changes like the texture and taste of the salty pork. It seemed like it was cooked healthier as it wasn't nice and crispy as usual. The size of the dishes are still the same more on the small size but higher cost. The food is not quite the same as it used to be but it is still pretty good. Unfortunately I feel like SD lacks in the Chinese cuisine options but this place will probably remain a favorite Chinese option for my family for the time being. read more
Hole in the wall Chinese food. Nuff said. I've been coming here since I was a kid and it still feels the same today as it did back then. It's a small, cramped Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant with a lousy parking lot. Service is minimal but the new staff friendly enough. There was auntie in the corner speaking loudly on her FaceTime call while making dumplings. Felt just like home. There are about 10 tables inside and the menu has a variety of Chinese inspired dishes. The must get here is definitely the egg noodles with wonton and char sui. We tried the specialty honey walnut shrimp and it was a let down. Soggy shrimp with very little sauce. The fried chicken leg was crispy and savory and the fried rice was very yummy. Definitely recommend these 2 dishes and the egg noodles! Overall this place offers a lot of value, but I would stick with the fried rice or noodles dishes. Good lucking finding parking! read more
The #20 Beef Stew with Tendon with Egg noodle ( you can get rice if you like but it breaks apart and takes away from it) It's savory, flavorful,aromatic, full of tender pieces of meat and soft tendon very very similar to the Vietnamese Beef Stew you dip the bread in.. I came here after watching several YouTubers eat & talk highly of this place. Very packed & busy when we came, obviously a popular spot. But service was top notch & we were seated right away. We ordered the popular items: The wonton noodle soup: very light clean broth. The egg noodle was cooked perfectly. Flavor not crazy flavorful but it was my favorite out of everything we ordered. I loved it so much that we came back craving it the next day. The beef with egg noodle (dry): yummy sauce, super tender beef, & perfect chewy egg noodles. Fried chicken: yummy, crispy, & drizzled with a brown teriyaki like sauce. Seafood crispy noodles: had fish cakes, fishballs, shrimp, & squid. The sauce has more flavor than most places that makes this dish so I enjoyed it too. My husband really enjoyed his fried rice too. I thought it could've used more flavor, but they do have condiments on the table to fix that. I'm craving the wonton egg noodle soup again as I write this. So planning to go back soon. Love that it's next to a little asian grocery store & a restaurant that everyone claims has the best Vietnamese egg rolls all in the same plaza. The best hole in the wall mom & pop shop! Used to come here all the time for years when I was growing up. Came for the first time again after so many years & it brought back a nostalgia. It's a simple & cheap Chinese restaurant. This place is still just as popular as it was years ago, & for good reason. The egg noodle soup with duck has always been my go-to. The food is amazing & the service is pretty fast. Portions are generous for the price. Highly recommend this place. read more

Hidden in the Little Saigon area of City Heights, this humble eatery has stood the test of time thanks to loyal regulars, consistent great taste, and solid value for money. They specialize in Cantonese and Vietnamese-style noodles: classic wonton noodles, Vietnamese beef noodle soup, and Southeast Asian stir-fried noodles. Broths are slow-simmered with pork bones and dried flounder, paired with house-made thin egg noodles that have a nice springy texture and wheat aroma. I'm shocked that I haven't written a review of my favorite vietnamese restaurant! It's time to set that right. First let me say that I rarely eat noodles or pho and I am not normally a fan of Vietnamese food. However, Minh Ky changed that. Their chow fun is delicious as is their crispy chicken leg!! My usual go to dish here is the kung pao chicken with american broccoli. The portion is huge, normally enough for two. It comes chock full with perfectly cooked onions, peppers and broccoli for a small additional charge. It's not too spicy so I usually add some of the very spicy jalapeño that they always have on the table. Hubby normally gets one of the mixed seafood dishes. All are generous and delicious. Prices here are reasonable and the service is excellent!! There is usually a limited amount of parking out front and there are no outdoor tables. Delish!! read more
Haven't eaten here since before the pandemic! Just as solid and promising as I remember and my friends enjoyed their first time as well. I've ordered the Seafood with Egg Noodle soup as my go-to before but decided to try something else; the Tom Yum soup with Egg Noodle. Simply tasty and comforting. I expected it to be more acidic (in a good way) but it wasn't, which is fine. The soup had nice size shrimp that was cooked perfectly. Enjoyed the texture of the egg noodles. Minh Ky Restaurant - Vietnamese/Chinese Fusion Done Right First time here and I honestly don't know why I waited so long. It's a small spot, but very clean and organized. We were seated right away, and the staff were quick and attentive without hovering. It already felt like one of those low-key neighborhood gems. I went with the dry noodles (you can choose dry or soup I'll always go dry haha). I ordered #10 - Mì Hủ Tiếu Lòng Bò, and comes with duck on the side with a small soup. First bite? Instant Ratatouille moment. The sauce coating the noodles had that deep savory-sweet richness, very classic Chinese egg noodle style, but still rooted in Vietnamese flavor. That umami hit was strong but balanced. It brought me right back to when my mom used to make noodles at home. That's how comfort food should feel. The noodles were perfectly textured not clumpy, not overcooked. Just right. It also comes with a light, clear soup on the side, which I love. You get the rich concentrated flavor from the dry noodles, then a clean sip of broth to balance everything out. The duck was tender, flavorful, and not dry at all. You can tell they don't rush their roasted meats. This isn't a flashy Instagram spot it's authentic Vietnamese/Chinese fusion comfort food. Love the egg noodles here with the beef side soup #20, the broth is rich and delicious, packed with big chunks of slow roasted beef that are soft and almost melt in your mouth. The egg noodles with dumpling side soup and roasted duck is another favorite #10. They have a crispy chicken leg quarter #86 that is the best I've had in years. It has a perfect crunch on the skin and the meat is tender. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. Service has always been excellent, the restaurant is clean and well run. They get busy during peak hours especially on weekends so it's always good to plan on coming early if you don't want to wait. They have a huge menu so there's something for everyone. read more
