When Customer Service is A-AMAZING, it makes the food taste even better! We order the Special combo and Galbi plate. Our waiter mentioned that we had a bit too much food, but we just smiled and said it was also for dinner. Honesty was a plus in our book. The Galbi plate is my favorite. The other dishes were a bit spicy for me, but my boys loved it. My husband's favorite was the seafood pancake, and my son prefers the bone soup though I thought it was a little bland. Though we have different taste buds, we all enjoyed certain food to our liking. The best part of the meal was eating rice and the free side plates. I went to Woomiok for lunch with a friend on a weekday. It is located in a decent size shopping center with a large parking lot. Didn't have any trouble finding a spot, but there was street parking available as well. They have mostly indoor and a few outdoor tables. We were seated without a wait. The menu is fairly small, consisting of mostly soups and hot stone or braised dishes. I opted for the Korean beef bibimap and my friend ordered a soup. She said the soup broth was very bland and had to season it with salt and other fixings from the side dishes after we asked the server to explain them. The bibimap was excellent I enjoyed the rice in the hot stone as it was able to crisp up some and also somewhat cook the egg yolk sitting on top of the dish. I did opt to add the sauce provided with the side dishes as well as it wasn't packed with flavor as served. They do provide the banchan of side dishes, but I only tried the glass noodles as I wasn't sure what everything else was. This felt like an authentic Korean spot in convoy district. read more

The spicy pork was overwhelmed with seasoning and far too spicy, masking the flavor of the meat itself. The dumpling soup was average at best, and the banchan lacked freshness and variety. The cold noodles tasted especially disappointing, almost as if they had been assembled from packaged ingredients rather than made in-house. Service was just okay. The restaurant was extremely loud, with kids running around and a constant sense of chaos, making it difficult to enjoy the meal. Cleanliness also left something to be desired, as the dining area didn't feel particularly well maintained. Considering the long wait, crowded atmosphere, and mediocre food, I wouldn't return. Yummy! Between my friends and I, we got a few different things to try and there was something to love about all of it! The Galbi was insanely good and mouthwatering! I also really enjoyed their Scallion Pancake and loved how it had full pieces of shrimp rather than small cut-up pieces that you can't even taste. The tofu was of the softer variety and they deep fry it. Interesting that they don't offer any gochujang sauce put on top. Instead it's a sweet/savory sauce that they serve with your meal and you pour it over. It's much runnier and liquid than the traditional gochujang. I liked the variety of banchan and they didn't hesitate to refill any of you requested. Especially liked their japchae and their kimchi. So I was recommended to try this place and I am sold. I walked in right when they opened and within ten minutes it was bustling. I had been recommended to try the beef bone soup so that's what I ordered. I felt that I should try an appetizer so I got the panko breaded fried dumplings as well. I don't know if ban Chan and steamed rice come with every meal but they were brought out and I was thrilled. Within about ten minutes, the dumplings arrived and they were surprisingly good. I have to be honest, panko doesn't usually excite me but they were very good. They were also served at a manageable temperature while still being crispy. Likely twice fried I dipped them into the chili sauce that comes with the ban Chan and I would have been happy even without the soup. The steamed rice was perfect and sticky and easy to eat with chopsticks. The soup was simple and very much something that feels home cooked. They bring you a container of salt and pepper and you salt it yourself. I personally love that but I'm sure some people will under salt their dish and complain it was not good. The brisket in the soup was very tender and I felt like I was having a great but slightly decadent home cooked meal. I was really impressed with the service and quality. Every table has a call button with an alarm that's almost too loud for the atmosphere. But regardless , I was checked on more than enough to never feel like I needed to flag someone down. The prices were very reasonable and they have lunch options for a lot of the items on the menu. Definitely coming back to try more! read more

Beyond the food, I would recommend waiting inside if you're on the waitlist. We had a group of 8 on a Friday at 5:30pm for dinner. And had no issue getting a table. But we did see a huge line outside waiting. Service was fast and friendly. The banchan was all tasty and had a punch of flavor. I got the Bulgogi Dolsot Bibimbap. The serving size was pretty big and the bowl was sizzling. The waitress had to point it out to me but bibimbap came with sauce you too with it. If she didn't say something I would of confused the sauce for something else. They were very saucy but not too spicy, I would say they had a subtle heat. I also loved the banchan, the radish was my favorite! And when we finished certain dishes they were quick to offer us more. Beyond the food, the restaurant was clean and the staff were very kind and efficient. We came around 5:30pm on a Friday and didn't have to wait for a table for 2, but when we were leaving there was a crowd by the entrance. We placed an order for a Naengmyeon (Cold noodles) combo which came with a plate of bulgogi, and we also ordered a Galbitang (beef short rib soup) to share. The Naengmyeon (cold noodles) were very delicious. Although presentation is similar to many other Korean restaurants, the noodles and broth was a huge standout. Other restaurants would use too much ice but not here. It was the perfect dish to start the meal. The bulgogi plate is a standout here, it was very well cooked and plated beautifully. None of the pieces including the complimenting vegetables were burnt or had any implications of any pieces being overcooked. It was very delicious and one of the best bulgogi plates I've ever eaten. Galbitang is pretty standard, beef wasn't super tough and was very enjoyable to eat. Love the portions and not too salty broth. Overall, one of the best Korean food spots in San Diego and certainly up there in my top Korean food spots. Excited to visit again whenever I'm in the area. I know people love this place but honestly it's not my favorite. The staff is nice & friendly and it's always busy with customers. Today I had the oxtail soup and it was so plain with no flavor. I should have known by the picture it looked pretty bland but I was hopeful. The others in my party loved what they ordered. The sides are always the star of the show. Another delicious meal at Woomiok! We arrived just before 5:30 PM on a Saturday and were seated promptly. Pro tip: this spot gets much busier with longer wait times after 6:00 PM. Since the plaza is always hopping and parking can be a struggle, we recommend dining before the dinner rush. What we ordered: Seafood Pancake: crispy and savory. Spicy Braised Short Ribs Stone Pot with Cheese: must order with the cheese balances the heat perfectly. Short Rib Soup (Galbi-tang): We ordered this to-go because it's just as good the next day. Canned Makgeolli: Tried this Korean rice wine for the first time and it was very pleasant. They even provided traditional brass bowls, which was a nice authentic touch. If you're coming with a larger group, the Woomiok Special Combo seems like a much better deal. For just two of us, we stuck to a la carte. We noticed a dog seated at a nearby table indoors. While the pup was very well behaved and didn't bother anyone, it was surprising to see a pet inside when they have designated outdoor seating. Additionally, we were seated at a smaller table for two. Once the large dishes arrived, we had to play a bit of table tetris to make everything fit. A bit more breathing room would have been nice, but we made it work! Overall, a great experience. We especially love the Banchan side dishes when dining in. We pressed the button when we were ready to place our order. Oxtail soup: It was very flavorful! Especially with the green onion and salt added (provided on the side). The broth was light and warming to the soul. There were plenty of oxtail in the soup and were all tender and fall off the bone. Bossam: I have never had bossam before but have always wanted to try it. This portion was pretty big for a party of two. It came with a plethora was pork belly slices that were well seasoned, cabbage, and radish kimchi. The salted shrimp, ssamjang, raw garlic and chili peppers added great flavor as well. It was very tasty and pork belly was cooked well. We were struggling to finish it at the end. All the workers were quite friendly and checked in on us from time to time despite how busy they were. The noodles were nice and bouncy, and I appreciated how the meat wasn't tough. The hot mustard wasn't as strong as I was expecting. I have mixed feelings about the banchan.
