I came here for the first time and it was great! The space is on the smaller side but still cozy. Parking can be tight, the spaces are a little small be warned. Our server was attentive and our food came out pretty fast. They had bussers constantly refilling waters and wiping down tables thoroughly. Parking - Free, in a large shared parking lot. Immediately, we were impressed with the service. They were friendly and quick which made the experience very enjoyable. We placed an order for a Naengmyeon (Cold noodles) combo which came with a plate of bulgogi, and we also ordered a Galbitang (beef short rib soup) to share. The Naengmyeon (cold noodles) were very delicious. Although presentation is similar to many other Korean restaurants, the noodles and broth was a huge standout. Other restaurants would use too much ice but not here. It was the perfect dish to start the meal. The bulgogi plate is a standout here, it was very well cooked and plated beautifully. None of the pieces including the complimenting vegetables were burnt or had any implications of any pieces being overcooked. It was very delicious and one of the best bulgogi plates I've ever eaten. Galbitang is pretty standard, beef wasn't super tough and was very enjoyable to eat. Love the portions and not too salty broth. Overall, one of the best Korean food spots in San Diego and certainly up there in my top Korean food spots. Excited to visit again whenever I'm in the area. The side dishes here are very delicious, our meal came with japchae, radish kimchi, fish cake, and some fermented squid. Since the plaza is always hopping and parking can be a struggle, we recommend dining before the dinner rush. What we ordered: Seafood Pancake: crispy and savory. Spicy Braised Short Ribs Stone Pot with Cheese: must order with the cheese balances the heat perfectly. Short Rib Soup (Galbi-tang): We ordered this to-go because it's just as good the next day. Canned Makgeolli: Tried this Korean rice wine for the first time and it was very pleasant. They even provided traditional brass bowls, which was a nice authentic touch. If you're coming with a larger group, the Woomiok Special Combo seems like a much better deal. For just two of us, we stuck to a la carte. We noticed a dog seated at a nearby table indoors. While the pup was very well behaved and didn't bother anyone, it was surprising to see a pet inside when they have designated outdoor seating. Additionally, we were seated at a smaller table for two. Once the large dishes arrived, we had to play a bit of table tetris to make everything fit. A bit more breathing room would have been nice, but we made it work! Overall, a great experience. I liked the included rice cakes the best; they were so warm, chewy, and had a nice smoky char to them. Cold Noodles (4.2/5) - Came with the standard vinegar and hot mustard. The noodles were nice and bouncy, and I appreciated how the meat wasn't tough. The hot mustard wasn't as strong as I was expecting. I have mixed feelings about the banchan. The raw squid banchan was delicious, but the kimchi was bland and the japchae was hard. SERVICE: Service was excellent and welcoming. Compared to the more densely populated strips of Kearney Mesa, this lot has ample, albeit narrow parking. The inside is clean, spacious, and you're not too shoulder-to-shoulder with the other parties. It always seem to be bustling with customers but there's never a long wait. It's not all sunshine and rainbows though. From my experience, customer service was always lacking. No one looks your way. When you do get someone and ask for something innocuous like napkins, they forget (or ignore) the request. And in the broad category of "hot soups in Kearney Mesa", their prices are getting up there in price. The quantities are smaller than competitors, they're more expensive than competitors, and I'd put their soups slightly ahead in quality. I love coming here for Korean cold noodles/ naengmyeon and occasionally the short rib soup/ galbitang. They serve their beef broth rather pure which is a little bland for some, so they do leave it up to the diner to add in flavoring primarily in the form of vinegar and hot mustard. Which is definitely needed for the cold noodles. While the toppings (julienned cucumbers, Korean pear, pickled radish, and a hard-boiled egg) and superior offering of premium beef brisket slices sets them apart from other locations, the broth does not come as tangy, so I do season it up some prior to eating. The chewy, long buckwheat noodles come in a LARGE helping. It is pretty much required to cut these with scissors prior to eating. Banchan offerings are solid with the most options than any other spot. Not only are you getting the usual kimchi, stir-fried fish cake, and pickled cucumbers, but they even give you japchae, radishes, and more. The dinner and lunch rush can be crazy, but the staff is very efficient so diners are always turning over quite quickly. Never waited more than 15 minutes here. As is the case with all Convoy parking lots, this ones particularly challenged with the narrowest of spots and lanes. DO park on the street and walk in to avoid the scritches and scratches from car doors in these small parking spaces. read more
