Open since November 2024, Pho Nom has a clever name and a petite & bustling dining area. We had a 6:30pm reservation and we were seated a little before 6:30 at a deuce in the middle of the dining room. We ordered the egg rolls, chicken pho & pho nom. I also got a Vietnamese Egg Coffee. Yum! The egg rolls came out quickly. They were hot and crunchy but somewhat light in flavor. The pho nom came out next. It's quite a huge dish and the bones really take up a lot of room. Broth was added about 5 minutes after the bowl was delivered. The meat was really challenging to remove from the bones as well. There was no place to put the bones once the meat was removed, so they went on the table which was a little gross. My chicken pho was delivered about five minutes after the pho nom. Both dishes were generously sized & flavorful. The broth on my chicken pho was so good - fragrant and delicious! Our dogs she's also cane with a full plate of basil, limes, bean sprouts, jalapeños, fish sauce & chili oil paste. M. finished his entire bowl & I ate most of mine but I had to take some of the broth home. You can get unlimited (free) refills of broth as well! Jaison & Zidane did a good job taking care of the whole dining room on a busy Wednesday night. They were better about seating people, taking meal orders, & turning tables over then they were about checking on customers once they had their food & cashing customers out, but to their credit, they were doing everything except cooking! I really think it would have helped them if the restaurant had an additional busser or a host who could also help to bus & turn over tables. There is one customer bathroom. Lots of parking in the shared parking lot, but it is a tight squeeze & always busy. You also have to pay to park in that lot now. Street parking is free if you can find it. Peace. read more

I don't know why my friend said I should get this because it was massive! It had two large beef ribs, sliced short rib, sliced brisket, & beef balls with noodles and veggies. This also had an egg which was in an interesting shape. Kind of like a cake or something. The broth was poured table side but it wasn't super hot. You can ask for more broth. This place is not just a vibe, the food here is fire! Every dish was delicious! The pho here is really good. They use high quality meats thinly cut to cook when they pour the broth in. I think the beef rib could've been cooked a little longer. It wasn't fall off the bone ribs. The broth is savory. I don't like it when it has too much star anise or sweet so this was perfect. The clay pot keeps the pho warm. Pork chop rice was good. Came with pork, broken rice, egg, meatloaf, and pickled veggies. The pork was a little dry. I really liked the meatloaf. My first time here and I came with fellow board members after our meeting. Most order the pho but I had the BROKEN RICE: grilled marinated pork topped w/ scallion oil, egg meatloaf, fried egg, cucumbers, pickled radish & carrots, nuoc cham. The egg meatloaf was interesting. I don't think I'm a fan of broken rice but overall it was a good dish with plenty of food. I thought it was interesting that they served the pho dishes without the soup broth. Once the bowls were served, they poured the broth into the bowls. I don't think I heard anyone complain. The restaurant was filled and I sae only one server, but he did a good job being attentive and waiting on all the tables. First things first, if you're looking for vermicelli noodles, they no longer serve them here. That was a little disappointing because I love that dish, and it looked so good in the pictures from previous Yelpers' posts. Their broth was very savory. I enjoyed it. I added the herbs and they poured in the broth for us. I do wish their broth was hotter though but that's a personal preference because I like hot soup. Their homemade sate was interesting in their bowl. A good interesting. It gave it an extra kick. Did not have to put my usual hoisin and Sriracha sauce. We each got a bowl of the Pho Nom. It's definitely a huge serving, especially with the two shanks. The meat was very tender and fell right off the bone. My first time here and I was very impressed and surprised with their presentation! Located on Convoy, Pho Nom shares a parking structure with several other restaurants. It will take a bit of time to find parking. Pho Nom is small inside and from what I saw, could seat about 80 people. They were blasting the AC and you could see it because their decor swayed. They had a bunch of fake plants hanging from their ceiling and it was quite pretty. I will say, paying $18-$20 for a bowl of Pho made my little heart hurt. I was hoping it was the best Pho of my life for that price. I ordered their short rib bowl and waited. The server brought it out without soup, and came back with a kettle to pour our soup into. It was a very nice gesture and quite a sight to see your food being cooked right in front of you. The bowls were huge and very nice. I could see where the dollars went. After driving into Kearny Mesa craving a good bowl of pho, Yelp led us straight into the chaos that is the Convoy parking lot -- survival alone deserves an appetizer. But once inside Pho Num, the place was such a vibe. Colorful flowers everywhere, cute decor, TVs playing Vietnam street food scenes, and late 90s/early 2000s R&B had me singing before the broth even arrived. Definitely date-night worthy. We ordered the Vietnamese egg coffee (SO good -- get the glass cup for the full aesthetic experience) and the lychee lemonade with free refills. Egg rolls were perfectly crispy and disappeared fast. I got the boneless short rib pho where they dramatically pour the scorching broth over the raw meat tableside -- delicious and honestly even better the next day. Loved that they didn't skimp on the garnishes either. My husband ordered the broken rice which came with a broth soup (be careful, it burnt my tongue-hate that feeling), let's just say asking for a "well done" egg turned it into something resembling a Brillo pad. Sorry Overall, solid 4 stars -- maybe 4.25 if Yelp allowed it. A little pricey ($20 pho hurts a little), menu is limited, and I personally like thicker noodles. TV's show walking/riding tours of Vietnam which I actually found interesting as I ate. Service was fairly good. It was a one man show up when visited. Greeter, busboy, waiter, and cashier. It was early dinner time on a Wednesday but the traffic was already building up. Can't imagine what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night. He was pleasant and did a fantastic job of taking care of the entire front. My wife and I shared their signature "Pho Nom" bowl. It was hearty coming with bone-in rib, sliced short rib, brisket, and a beef ball. The usual accoutrements of pho though they also add their own house satay sauce on the side. Tasty. The serve it and pour broth tableside which was kind of classy. Never had that done at a pho place. However, my wife and I thought the beef rib was a bit tough, and the noodles and broth were both solid though not spectacular where I wanted to 5-star it. We also ordered fresh spring rolls. One waitress does it all, so service is good but she's a one woman show so it's not super speedy. We've been here a few times. The pho is really good here.. very flavorful. We always share the Pho Nom.. it's HUGE! It's a bit pricey.. I think it's about $24 a bowl, but like I said.. it's HUGE! The first time we came here we ordered two separate bowls and we barely put a dent in them so the next time we knew better and shared. It comes with two humongous beef ribs and a TON of noodles, meat and meatballs. The soup is super (at first) hot but then it cools down very fast and gets soaked up by all the noodles... but it's still very good. We had to request for a little more soup.
