I paired my soup with the coconut pandan tea which tasted like slightly sweet coconut water with pandan. I was expecting a thicker coconut milk flavor, and was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing and subtle it was! I was really craving some pho and being that it was getting late, there were few options left. I drove over to pho nom and got there about 30 minutes before they closed. To my dismay we were only allowed to order to go. Being a little sick and starving, my husband and I did just that. The restaurant itself was clean and inviting. Pho to go never tastes good and I was quite annoyed that it took 2 tries for me at home to finally find a bowl big enough to hold the soup and noodles. The pho itself was only OK not worth the $24 I paid for it. My husband was not a fan of his dry noodles because he felt that the texture of the noodle was a bit soggy even though it was a dry noodle... we had the same issue with the spring rolls. I think they didn't dry their lettuce enough when rolling the spring roll because the rice paper wrapped around the spring roll was also soggy and it started falling apart. Maybe my meal would have tasted better dine in but at this point I guess we will never know because there are way too many pho places in San Diego for me to put myself through this again. read more

However, parking can get tight here depending on the day and time you come so there is additional street parking all around the area. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner around 6pm and were seated right away. For their menu, they have a nice selection of different appetizers, pho, and drinks to choose from. We opted to get the Nom Pho and the Grilled Pork Spring Rolls. Overall, everything that we had was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. The pho broth was nice and flavorful and also came with an interesting lemongrass sauce on the side that elevated the dish. All of the staff here are friendly and welcoming. The aesthetics in here is cute. There was only one waitstaff which makes sense for the smaller space. If you are wanting authentic pho, this is not it. I feel the broth could have perfected better. Disappointed with them pouring the pho broth in front, but mainly the broth lacked a lot of flavor and body to it. There is just something missing and it's giving more Americanized/modern take on pho. There wasn't a wow factor which was unfortunate. I must say they did give good portions and didn't skimp out on the meat. I had ordered the short rib pho and had the tamarind wings. Not my favorite place for pho but if you specifically want the bone in short rib pho then this is the only place I've tried in SD that serves it. Portion size seems p good but we had the pho nom and the broth was just lacking in flavor but if you like mild broth then maybe you'll like it. The meat quality seemed good but the most important thing for pho imo is the broth and this one just lacked depth to the flavor. Service was good, we got our food p fast as a group of 4 with almost every table full. This restaurant is on the smaller side but we didn't have to wait to be seated thankfully. Overall decor and vibe is clean. Parking is typical convoy parking so limited for how many businesses are in the same plaza but manageable. So, if anyone's paying attention to the personal tidbits about my life that I insert into these reviews, my Permanent Date and I have started Intermittent Fasting and have gotten down to a four-hour food window. Why the FIVE stars? They have soda on tap. Naturally, this means we are quite hungry when it's time to eat, and my fast might have extended to 22 hours today. Yesterday, I was in the mood for pho, but PD had other plans, so of course I wanted to see which was the #1 pho spot in San Diego, and that led me to Pho Nom, and the very chill Danny, who was our server. Naturally, I had the Pho Nôm, and there is something incredibly satisfying about having a couple of rib bones sticking out of the bowl. The broth on its own is stellar. It has the requisite anise flavor, but the other flavors don't get lost. I did try the lemongrass sate, nomsen tamago ($3), and the white pepper, and they did add some dimensions to the broth, but the broth is delightful on its own. The only downside is the location. Pho Nom is in the 4646 Convoy strip mall, which has one of the most perpetually crowded parking lots in town. HOWEVER, I managed to score rock star parking! Some things not to be missed: -Chili tamarind wings. They will change your life the way that album the manic pixie dream girl told you about didn't. -Spring rolls. Well, the spring rolls are good, but that is hands down the best peanut sauce I've ever had in a restaurant. My son made the best peanut sauce I've ever eaten, and if you asked him, you'd know I would never just say that because he's my son. My kids get the harsher side of my critical nature. read more

My friend and I went here with high expectations... we were let down. First, we were told the wait was 10 minutes. He ended up waiting at least 35-45 minutes. The pho was definitely Americanized, not authentic at all. It comes in a hot stone bowl, but it's not sizzling hot like it should be if being put into that bowl. The pho was way too sweet as well. Stopped by for takeout after driving down from The Bay. The whole mall was packed and it was tough finding a spot. Saw the Hainan chicken sign outside and it sold us. We also ordered the Pho Nom, egg rolls, and shrimp rolls. The pho had a nice broth with two big beef rib bones. The fried egg rolls were nice and crispy. The Hainan chicken with 3 sauces was excellent but they ran out of the chicken rice, and we were subbed the white rice. That was the only con of our takeout order. inda simple, it seems they know what they want to serve. Their signature is a big bowl pho soup with lot of meat, two big back ribs, slices brisket, short ribs and meat balls. It is seriously a giant bowl of meat. I think you can even share with someone if both of you don't eat that much. The soup boiled 14 hours with 19 ingredients inside. It is so flavorful and so healing! I literally finished the whole bowl of soup, can you believe that! My baby enjoyed the meat and noodles as well, the meats fell apart from the bone, it is just perfect! We also had a spring roll dish, they are classic and standard, still pretty nice. We also had two cocktails! They have tea and fruit flavors, unique and delicious. We ended our meal with their dessert, the sticky rice with mango sorbet. It is nice but not that amazing like their pho noodles. I highly recommend here if you want to have pho in a nice environment restaurant, especially for a date.
