We tried their location at UCSD CAMPUS and liked the food there, so we are curious to try here. There was a long line outside when we arrived, but my wife still wanted to try this location, so we stayed. The guy in charge of the waiting list was nice to let us know that we were next in line but it's very close to the bathroom, and he doesn't recommend and asked us if we wanted to wait for a better spot so we waited a bit and got a good spot like in the middle of their restaurant. My wife ordered a lot as usual for us , some tasted good and some did not , mostly a few of the foods we ordered were a bit Salty for us on this location. So for us, we like the food better in their UCSD campus location. At both locations we tried , the service was really quick.
We got pho, three color jelly, egg rolls and spring rolls. I loved it all! The pricing was amazing compared to most spots in SD. The dishes were each around $12-$14. The service was great, they sat us quickly, took our order right away and we didn't wait long at all to be served. The ambiance was nice. It was clean and they run a tight ship on making sure everyone has what they need.
Waited about 30-40 minutes for Friday night dinner at this restaurant, and seeing the number of people lined up outside definitely set my expectations for something exceptional. I ordered the vegetarian pho and liked that the vegetables seemed to be cooked before being added to the noodles. My waiter also mentioned that upgrading to the large would only be an extra dollar, so I said yes please thank you. The broth itself, though, wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting. To be honest, it came across as pretty bland. The tofu, on the other hand, absolutely fried me with how humongous the pieces were. It was as if the chef took the tofu straight from the container, cubed it into six enormous pieces, and tossed them into the bowl with a fervor that matched the dinner rush. A generous touch, nonetheless. The restaurant was completely packed, and it was pretty clear that the waiters were overwhelmed but doing their best to keep up. Given the Friday night rush, I can understand why more attentive service probably wasn't a priority. Overall, the experience wasn't bad, but the long wait and high expectations made the underwhelming broth stand out more than I would have liked. It really just closed out my work week with an "ok" stamp.
Even during this heat wave, I was still craving pho! I can't get enough of their broth. It's incredibly clean, flavorful, and tastes like homemade pho. Their shrimp spring rolls are also a must-order every time I visit. The service is always efficient. They move through the waitlist quickly, seat guests promptly, and the food comes out surprisingly fast. It's one of those places I can always count on for a satisfying bowl of pho.
The food here is consistently very good for a casual neighborhood restaurant. The restaurant is spacious and has lots of tables. It's a popular place. We love their bbq meat dishes love the bbq filet mignon plate either rice and salad. Their spring rolls are bigger and very tasty. The egg rolls are crispy and made to perfection. The service is very fast and efficient. For a quick and gods lunch or dinner, come here.
not a bad place to stop by for some pho! i will say the line gets insanely long and the waitlist is by paper, so you just have to stand and wait for your name to be called. i will say it is kind of absurd to not have a digital system in place if you're extremely busy. the food is okay, pretty big menu! i'm not from the area and have definitely had better back home with bigger portion sizes for less. it's a really big restaurant with plenty of seating, so for it to be extremely busy must mean it's probably one of the top places in sd for some pho!
Great pho, egg rolls, and Viet coffee! Very solid spot for your Vietnamese food fix. Came in the morning and lots of people already, but we didn't have to wait to be seated at all. Got our eggrolls first and then our pho, both came very quick and tasted amazing. Interior is very unique with painted walls as well almost giving like a ocean tropical ish vibe
Surprised that I haven't yet reviewed this place since I feel like more often than not, if I'm in Mira Mesa, I am stopping by Pho Cow Cali. I often come during off-times for meals so there isn't really any wait, but most recently when I did come during peak lunch hour with what looked like a really long waitlist, they're honestly so efficient and ran through that list super fast. They're in a plaza with a large parking lot too so no need to worry about finding a spot. My go to orders are the large sizes of the special combo pho and then the well done version of that essentially. They are scarily fast with their pho orders yet it still tastes great every time. I probably should try more of their rice/noodle dishes which look really good as well, but I just always come here when craving soup. Sometimes if I'm craving boba but not trying to spend a lot, I will get a drink here too as well. It does come fairly sweet though as a warning.
Casual vibe. Lots of parking. Food was solid and so so affordable. There were a lot of employees so service was fast. I got the phone mignon, pho dac biet, and a rice plate.
Wanted to try this pho spot because of its amazing reviews. Went during lunch time (1:25) and there was a wait/ line there was 7 people ahead of the line and it took about 15 minutes to get inside. The food was a total miss. I ordered the specialty pho, egg rolls and 2 color dessert. Everything was bland and didn't have the flavors I was hoping for since this place was rated so well. Overall the wait for this spot is not at all worth it. What I will say though is their customer service is amazing the best out of all the pho spots. They are clean, quick service and there are people actively making sure condiments are stocked, perhaps this is why they rated it high. Service, 5 stars, food, 1 stars = 3 stars total
The service was good, although the overall atmosphere was just average. The prices are very reasonable, and we didn't have to wait for a table, which was a plus. The food tasted pretty good overall, but I felt the Vietnamese soup broth had quite a bit of MSG. One interesting thing about this place is that some of the Mexican staff can actually understand and speak a little Vietnamese, which was a nice surprise! Overall, it's a reasonably priced place with decent food and good service.
A decent pho place for when you're craving your mom's noodle and rice dishes, but you're too far to get some. But if I had the choice, I'd make the drive to Orange County just for some good pho. This was my first time visiting this place, and I had to put my name on the waitlist. There were 8 parties ahead of me and it only took 20 minutes in order to get seated. We all ordered pho, and the server was quick to bring out the food. He also brought nước béo for me when I had requested some, which i thought was unique because not many restaurants offer it, even though it's for pho connoisseurs. If you're reading my review, I'd suggest you try it with your pho (it's beef fat with scallions in oil to enhance your soup). I thought the soup was lacking in comparison to the pho places in OC. The meat wasn't as tender or flavorful, but the aroma was great and powerful. Again, not bad for a random location in San Diego. The inside was bigger than you'd expect; it seated numerous tables. The floor is sticky to walk on( but they serve customers constantly. I don't think I'd be back, but it's not a bad place to go to.
I really enjoyed food, they serve food really fast, tasted great although there always has line, but it worthy to wait. Must try.

This place has been around in Mira Mesa for quite some time now. Definitely my go to for pho in Mira Mesa. Your typical fast pace restaurant with a little bit of everything from soups, broken rice dishes, noodles dishes, egg rolls, and spring rolls. Service was fast and friendly. Everything came out hot and delicious. Bathrooms were pretty clean and smell good. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating. However, they are always busy. Broth was flavorful and noodles were cooked perfectly. The lemonade was just right. Not to sweet, just the way I like it. read more

By 5p.m. on Monday, the restaurant was completely full -- it's extremely popular. I ordered No.39, Bún Bò Huế, spicy Hue beef noodle soup.Huế, the ancient capital in central Vietnam, was once the imperial seat of the Nguyen Dynasty, and this noodle soup is a local specialty of Hue. It comes with generous toppings: pork knuckle meat, well‑done beef, beef tendon, and pork blood cake.Completely different from the light‑tasting regular pho, it has a rich, hearty red broth.Though it is called spicy beef noodle soup, the actual spice level is mild, with bold aromatic spices.Highly recommend this central‑Vietnamese specialty if you are tired of ordinary pho. read more

Pho Cow Cali Express is located in Mira Mesa just a few blocks west of the 15 freeway on Mira Mesa Blvd. I've been here numerous times purely for nostalgia and because my family likes it here. Sometimes you'll see a line out the door so you'll need to sign in. The wait time is typically quick unless you have a huge party. My order usually consists of their Grilled BBQ Pork Vermicelli (Bun Thit Nuong) and their Egg Rolls (Cha Gio). This restaurant has plenty of seats and the ambiance is very casual. There are TVs around and it's mid-noisy inside. The service is pretty quick given that the menu isn't as large as other Vietnamese restaurants. There's prices are also decent and competitive for the area. The servers are really just there to take orders, bring out orders, etc. - very casual dining. One thing to note: The aroma will stick to your skin, hair, and clothing! And it's pretty intense. It should definitely be your last stop of the day. Don't say I didn't warn you. Overall, Pho Cow Cali dishes out simple Vietnamese food, where the service is quick and dining is casual. read more
We came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy at all. The staff is always nice here and they are prompt to welcome you and seat you. We ordered the: 1 large spicy beef noodle soup (vn1) bun bo hue and it was not spicy at all. The broth had a fishy taste so maybe too much fish sauce?, not sure, it was also very fatty and not our favorite. So definitely stick with the pho when you come here. The broth was also served luke-warm and I prefer my soup to be hot. The good thing about this soup is that it had a lot of various meat (beef shank, meatballs, and pork) 1 large pch (n3) pho. This one had rare steak, flank, fatty brisket, tendon and tripe. The broth to this one was served hot and it tasted much better than my bun bo hue. read more
I heard that this place was pretty popular and since I was craving Vietnamese food, I decided to give this a try. When we arrived a little bit before noon there was already a waiting list and a line outside. We probably waited for about 15-20 minutes before our group of 4 was called. I ordered the regular size Rare and Well Done Pho ($12.50), and I also tried out the egg rolls. The food came out pretty quickly, and the pho was piping hot. Everything tasted fresh, and the broth would taste so good on a cold day. The herbs and sides that comes with the pho were all fresh and didn't seem old at all. Service is quick and they try to stay efficient. Since there is a line outside, they try to get people in an out as quickly as possible. They take your orders, drop off your food, and drop off the check pretty quickly, however if you need something in between, and are trying to call them over, it feels like they glaze right over you and pass you without looking. My water was also left empty and it was hard getting someone's attention for a refill. Overall the food itself was pretty good. Service is okay since they really focus on just moving parties in and out as quickly as possible. read more

We were initially a little deterred by the line, but the wait ended up being painless and the food came out quickly once we sat down. We got the #1 pho special and the grilled BBQ pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl. Both were generous portions and really tasty. The egg rolls were super crispy and the grilled pork had great flavor and char. Definitely becoming one of our go-to spots for Vietnamese food when we're in SD! read more

Every time I have a craving for pho in SD, I head to Pho Cow Cali. AND Every time I go here, it's packed or the waiting list is long. Understandably so, since their pho is reliably good. The other day I came in with a big group and thankfully the wait for a table was less than 15 minutes. There's a good amount of seating inside, and the restaurant itself was very clean. We were sat at one of the tables in the middle of the restaurant so there was a bit of foot traffic but nothing too disruptive. I ordered the pho tai nam which came out piping hot! So delicious. My aunt was able to split a bowl of pho for her two kids, and the server mentioned that she could order a side of noodles so both of the kids had a good soup to noodle ratio. Our server was very nice and super attentive. read more
Haven't been here in a while but still one of my favorite restaurants in the area, and have never had a bad meal here. Arrived to a group of people waiting outside to be called, as is usual, but was seated quickly. Ordered #52, Grilled Chicken with Egg Rolls and Vermicelli, and it was on point. Ordered spring rolls as well, and they were delicious. Pleased that my order came out in about 5 minutes. I love that some of the entrees come with egg rolls. Once you're seated, the service is seriously impressive. Orders are taken quickly, food comes out lightning fast, and everything hits the table hot and fresh. They run this place like a well oiled machine. Let's talk food because wow. The egg rolls are easily the best you can ask for. Crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, not greasy, and insanely addictive. Order them. Non negotiable. Their pho is consistently on point. Rich, flavorful broth that tastes like it's been simmering all day, generous portions of meat, and fresh herbs every time. Whether you're doing brisket, rare steak, or combo pho, you really can't go wrong. The vermicelli bowls are another standout. Big portions, perfectly grilled meats, fresh veggies, and that balance of sweet and savory that keeps you going back for more. The grilled pork and beef plates are also worth the hype, tender, flavorful, and always cooked just right. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and quality is consistent. Took my boyfriend here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We put our names down and there were 5 parties ahead of us so we went over to Gong Cha to get boba. This was def a mistake because in the time that we waited for the boba to be made, all the parties ahead of us were seated and they crossed out our name from the list!! We had to put our names down again, so pro tip: STAY NEAR because they have a really quick turnaround time with their tables. I want to say we waited another 10 minutes or so before we were seated, we ordered the Pho Dac Biet Filet Mignon (House Special Filet Mignon Pho) and the Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong (Vermicelli Bowl with Grilled Pork and Egg Rolls) and the food came out pretty quickly, like maybe 3 minutes? It was delicious, my boyfriend said this was probably his #2 favorite pho spot in San Diego!! The Vermicelli Bowl was perfect for the hot and humid summer days we've been having, and I appreciated how much meat was given. I'm actually really glad Pho Cow Cali got the line situation handled because I used to personally not come to this restaurant because I didn't want to wait an hour to be seated. So because of their efficiency, this is definitely a place that I will frequent more often now! read more
Scored a seat immediately today--perks of dining on MLK Day! If you know your order ahead of time, the service here is lightning-fast. We went with our standard favorites: #4 Pho: Well-done steak, flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe. The broth is consistently solid. #35 Broken Rice (Com Tam): Topped with pork rind, steamed meatloaf, and a grilled pork chop. The broken rice dish comes with a side of fish sauce and a cup of pho broth. It's the perfect way to get those aromatic soup vibes without having to commit to a full bowl of pho. The interior is basic classic mom and pop giving vibes where food is the main priority. If you want traditional, consistent pho, this is the spot. read more
Tl;dr Still the best pho in San Diego. The food is high quality, super cheap, and the service is incredibly fast. Came here for lunch during a super busy weekend. This is my go-to spot. The soup isn't too sweet, which I prefer, and the broth has great depth. I usually get the beef brisket and meatballs. The portions are very generous for the price. On a side note, my mom had the vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and their grilled pork is amazing. You can always get a side order as well. I used to do that in high school. For appetizers, the egg rolls are a must. They are massive for Vietnamese egg rolls and come out super crunchy. Even if you see a crowd outside, don't let the line scare you off. We were 20th in line during peak hours but only waited about 10 to 15 minutes. They have a huge seating area and they turn tables around faster than almost anywhere else. If you want top-tier pho without a massive wait or a high price tag, this is the place. read more
Ive lived around here for so long but forgets to write a review here. Lol I dont come here often purely bc of the wait time. The taste doesn't justify my wait. Don't get me wrong, the pho is just above average but simply not enough for me to wait 30m. What I do love about the place is the price. Its very cheap here. Its a big enough restaurant and people are in and out, but due to the wait it is a heavy deterrent. The service is also awful. My host just comes out to call my name and walks right inside. He doesn't even acknowledge if im right behind or not. My water was never refilled, and my order was taken down wrong. The bun bo hue was also above average and the che was decent. Came in around 12 with a big crowd waiting outside. There's a hand written waitlist outside you self sign up on. We got seated in 20min and placed our order. Egg rolls came right away and the entrees followed quickly. All dishes were all amazing! Their pho is more northern style which is more salty than sweet which I liked. I've been here a couple of times and it was on a weekday late afternoon or early evening. Parking can get a bit crowded/limited but I never had to wait when coming to the restaurant. It is always crowded inside with a lot of people coming here - I don't think I ever seen this place quiet before. My go-to food will always be Pho Tai (whether it's for this place or any other pho places). While the food does come out pretty fast and I do like the noodle and the meat, I feel like they put a lot of MSG in the broth cause it's a bit too salty on my end. I usually don't drink a lot of water when eating my food but I have to drink 1.5 cups of water because of how salty the soup is. Sure, I can avoid having the soup but you can't skip it with noodles! I still think it's good but this is the one place I can't seem to finish my whole pho bowl cause of how salty it is. read more
Pho Cow Cali is a favorite stop when I visit friends in Mira Mesa. You can tell they're popular from the line! When I popped in for take-out on a Tuesday night, the line went down the sidewalk. But take-out is fast ordering inside in person. It's almost impossible to get them over the phone during dinner rush. For spring rolls and a vermicelli bowl, we only paid about 26$ including a small tip! Their spring rolls are packed full, and the vermicelli bowls and pho are so flavorful. The parking lot is a bit of a nightmare, but staff are always super quick and helpful. Always looking forward to nights in with PCC! read more
I recently moved to San Diego from Sacramento so I am currently on the hunt for solid Vietnamese food/pho in SD. I decided to come here Veterans Day is there was a lot of people but it went by quick. The parking lot was small but there were some spots in the same plaza you can hit up like Gong Cha and Somi Somi. The inside was what I would expect from a Vietnamese restaurant, no frills but there was a good amount of seating inside. As the most rated spot in San Diego, I was excited to try this place out. I got the Pho Dac Biet Xe Lue and while it looks promising, I felt that the broth itself wasn't flavorful, which left me disappointed, 6.5/10 (this may change as I try different pho spots in San Diego). They also do not have thicker pho noodles, which I would order if available. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back to get their other dishes but the pho wasn't impressionable to me. read more

You can appreciate the pho aroma before even stepping foot inside. Egg rolls were crispy as they're well known to be. Tried their pho tonight but will need to try their rice dishes another time. Over a decade since I've been visiting this establishment and I still stand by my words that they have the best pho in all of San Diego. Regardless of what pho or noodle you order, the broth is on point and pack with flavor. The service is fast and despite and long like out the door, their staff always makes sure you are taken care of and quick. The ambiance is nothing to write home about but then again what pho place does anyone visit for ambiance? Is the pho gluten free? Sometimes they put gluten in the broth and sometimes they put gluten in the rice noodles (esp in America).
I think it is! My previous partner was gluten free (otherwise she could get super sick) and we ate here all the time!
