They also serve beer and wine, although the selection is fairly limited. We ordered: * Baked Catfish: this was a fun, interactive dish. The catfish is wrapped in rice paper with fresh garnishes and vermicelli noodles to create your own spring rolls. It comes with fish sauce, but since I'm not a fan, I opted for peanut sauce instead. The build-your-own experience made it feel authentic and unique. * Shrimp Fried Rice: the shrimp were large and plentiful, which was a plus. However, the dish itself was a little bland and could have used more seasoning. * Chicken Wings: these were phenomenal. They were packed with flavor and ended up being one of my favorite items of the meal. For wine, they only offer Merlot and Cabernet, no Pinot Noir. The house wine was decent, but this isn't really a destination for an extensive wine or cocktail selection. Service was a bit inconsistent. I arrived slightly late due to work and had to track down a server to place my wine order. Later, the peanut sauce for my spring rolls was forgotten, and I had to find someone again to get it. Went here with my family on a Friday night after not wanting to wait 40 mins for different restaurants in Convoy. Parking was okay, and the wait time for this restaurant wasn't long at all. Even though it was full, there were still enough seats where we didn't have to wait with a party of 3. The food and service itself was pretty good. Absolutely loved their Extra Large Combo, definitely hit the nail with the basics. So if you're looking for some good pho this is the spot. This is the spot for solid Vietnamese food. The cá nướng (baked catfish rolls) are one of my favorite things here -- perfectly seasoned and baked just right. It does take some time to prep so I would call the restaurant when you're en-route so it'll be ready once you're seated. We've been to this restaurant many times, and while the service has never been outstanding, we've always been understanding because we're not picky customers. This visit was by far the most disappointing. Our party of three adults and two children had an $81.73 bill. Other than receiving our food and one round of water, we received virtually no service. No one checked on us or offered refills, even though the restaurant wasn't busy between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. The food was also below standard. The combo meal was overly salty, and the rice noodles in the spicy noodle dish were still hard because they hadn't been soaked properly. The biggest issue was the automatic 18% gratuity. I have no problem tipping for good service--I normally leave around 15% and am happy to tip more when it's deserved. But charging 18% for almost no service is simply not justified. it's about not feeling comfortable with it being mandatory. Being a loyal customer makes this experience even more disappointing. I've been eating at PT Eatery for many years. The Pho is great. I usually get the veggie pho with beef broth and my friend gets the rare steak or beef stew and we always love it. We also love the eggrolls, fresh spring roll and garlic better wing appetizers. Other favorite entrees are broken rice dishes or vermicelli bowls. Parking is easy and the service is friendly. Came to try their Butter garlic chicken wings that I've heard so much about from multiple people. They were crispy and similar to salt and pepper wings at a Chinese restaurant but with a buttery flavor to them. You know what they say, butter makes everything better. Make sure you get the fried bits on top of each wing it's just extra flavor that you don't want to miss out on. We also got the tenderloin with fried rice. The tenderloin came on a sizzling platter and was very tender and tasty. It came with a separate plate of fried rice and salad. The fried rice was ok; not super tasty but better than just plain white rice. The salad was just lettuce and tomatoes but there wasn't a dressing. I ate some with the flavorful beef which was fine but we didn't finish the salad. The kung pao fish was ok, the fish pieces were deep fried and tossed with sauce, veggies and peanuts. The fish was tender but had a stronger fish taste. If I had to guess I think it was sawai. It went well over the fried rice and salad. Service was friendly and attentive, waters were refilled multiple times. The dining room is large and there's a lot of 4 top tables. They are located in the same strip mall as Katsu cafe, Lolita's, Curry club and Yuk de jang so there's a large parking lot. PT Eatery is a second location of Phung Trang, so they have some of the same menu items. I don't think the butter garlic chicken wings are Vietnamese cuisine but they are good! I was so indecisive what I wanted for lunch- closer to Kaiser- the better. It was a todd up between Bahn Mi or pho. I was dead set on a sandwich and saw the menu used the work "house special spread". I thought it was code for "pâté. Because pâté's THE ONLY reason why I want a sandwich! When the waitress asked for my order, I casually order the char grilled pork WITH extra pâté... and that's when my lunch craving got shut down. (Waaaahh!) Now, when I say small- it's a great sized small bowl. First glance it looks like- there's hardly anything in it. But, it's packed! No shortage on vermicelli noodles. And with my additional shrimp topping- my ingredients weren't making a mess as I enjoyed each scoop of broth, slivers of steak & plump shrimp. Tails are removed from shrimp- one less thing to fiddle with. It's spacious inside. Plenty of booths, tables in the center of restaurant and some 2 tops. The six piece garlic butter wings were a plus. Not greasy and heavy. Breading was fine, golden, light, very crispy. Tastes like they're sprinkled with MSG (no complaints). Great alternative place to Phuong Trang. Smaller menu, but PT Eatery seems to have the "top" dishes from Phuong Trang. They have Banh Mi here (fyi). We love the food here. We came on a Saturday for lunch. Got seating quickly (restaurant about half full). Broken rice dish was great. Lots of food in one entree. My wife had their vermicelli noodle bowl (exactly the same as Phuong Trang). It's great too. One of my go-to dishes. Ube coffee drink was surprisingly delicious. One of the only ube drinks I've ever had that actually had ube flavor (nutty, coconut-y). Yummy. Service was great. Staff consistently came to check on us. Lots of tables here. But I didn't see those large round tables. For bigger groups, they combine the smaller square tables together. For check, just go to register and pay. Not sure why this place has only 3.5 stars. We stopped in for linner. There were several customers at 4:30pm on a Saturday and lots of tables reserved. The staff found a table big enough to accommodate our large size family without a reservation at 4:30 pm. He had to carry a table and some chairs from the other side of the restaurant. We finished before the reserved table guests arrived but could see it starting to get busy so come early if you don't want to wait. We were seated next to the window and there were a bunch of mosquitoes and a janky looking trap which was kinda weird. The bathrooms were nice and clean as was the tables. The menu (which I forgot to take a photo of) had your usual Vietnamese items but some extras like oxtail pho, short rib pho, knuckle bone pho, and French dip baguette. All was reasonably priced and most pho and vermicelli items were between $14-16. The kids menu was also good with a variety of choices which included fruit and drink (but we didn't get fruit). All in all the service was good and attentive. Not as fast as other places but we didn't feel rushed. Food was good. Lots of meat and veggies. Soup broth was flavorful and I wasn't thirsty after which is a good sign. The French dip was surprisingly good. The meat was tender and juice. The baguette was fresh. There is a large shared lot, providing ample areas to park. I arrived shortly after this establishment opened. There were about 4 diners in the room -- It took about 10 literal minutes for the staff to acknowledge me (and several employees made/held eye contact with me) as I stood there awkwardly, just me and the "please wait to be seated" sign. After being seated, I ordered a small bowl of meatball pho, fried egg rolls with a glass of water and lemon. My soup arrived in short order and I proceeded to enjoy it. By the time I was halfway through my soup, at least six orders from the kitchen were delivered to other diners -- by now I had finished my meal. No one came to check on me or asked if I needed more water, and my eggrolls had yet to arrive. Since I could not wait for my eggrolls, I went to the register to pay for my meal. The worker at the register ran my ticket. I examined it and saw they charged me for eggrolls and my soup. I pointed out that I did not receive my eggrolls; he looked at me, looked at the ticket, then looked over at my table to visually verify that I did not receive my eggrolls. He went to the kitchen, then returned to the register and asked if I wanted the egg rolls to go. I declined. I paid for my meal and left. I did not tip and I do not feel bad. I am very disappointed with this eatery because a friend treated us several months ago --the service was spot on and the food was excellent. Something about their Broth is different, maybe because they are known for their Knucklebone/Short Rib. Meatballs were overcooked and tough. Their egg rolls are made with different wonton wrapper, or they use a different oil to fry. Wasn't a fan. Everyone has a preference, but I recommend any pho place on El Cajon Blvd for authenticity. Had the itch since it's cold out at night so we tried a new place. If you kow OG pho places here they are generally a little sparse on decor, this was NOT. Nice ambiance going in and very clean. Wait staff greeted us immediately and the booth was comfortable. Instead of the usual giant squirt bottles of Hoisin and Sriracha, they have individual packets. Labor intensive but definitely more sanitary. Menu was easy to navigate and the waiter was super helpful. Only complaint was an empty water glass after I drained it early in the meal. This is typical for pho places and it was also before closing. The food: Bo La lot was very good, all the veggies are super fresh and the beef/grape leaves were better than most places we've been. The fish sauce was...different. Much sweeter and not as much "substance" as our usuals. Pho was good as well. The broth is a solid base, noodles were good, and there was a lot of delicious oxtail. Tried PTEatery after discovering Phuong Trang was closed, and wow, what a nice surprise. Good Vietnamese food, and now it's become one of our go-to spots in the Convoy area. Service was prompt and friendly, the place was clean and full of people (always a good sign), and parking was way easier than at Phuong Trang. Big plus--they take cards, unlike PT which is cash-only, and the whole Venmo setup there was always kind of a mess. We ordered the wings both wet and dry--both solid, but I'm team dry. Friends raved about the fried baby back ribs, and my family love the oxtail pho. We also tried the various wraps (delicious), the bun (very good), and the banh mi (I'd probably skip that next time). Only downside? They don't have the clay pot dish that Phuong Trang does... so I guess it depends what you're in the mood for.
