Service was slow given that this was at 2pm when less than a quarter of the restaurant was full. After waiting 20 min with no sign of our food coming to the table one of the servers came by (only after I had made eye contact with the server) and said they were going to check on our food. I made a comment at 30 min asking if they forgot to make our food but the server brushed me off saying they were working on it. It took over half and hour for pho to come out which obviously is unusual. I thought maybe that was just how slow they are at preparing the food but I observed the table behind us got their food within 10 minutes of ordering . ABSOLUTELY LOVE this place! The food is always delicious and the service is always so fast. Workers are nice but don't really say much which really isn't necessary when you know what you want. I usually get the crispy noodles here, and the noodles are always fried fresh and the sauce is always flavorful and not too salty. I have tried other items on the menu here previously, and everything I get is typically delicious. I did try the orange chicken meal from their kids' menu and it was ok as far as flavor, but then again, maybe it was because it was off the kids' menu. I did like that the portion size was generous and the meal came with juice, a good portion of rice, the orange chicken, and a Rice Krispy treat. The service here is your standard Asian, old school pho service -- efficient, without unnecessary hovering. Upon placing our order, a waiter came by and dropped off a basket with silverware, napkins, and condiments. The place itself is fairly large and clean with plenty of seating. Is PT Eatery the best pho restaurant in this area? Yes, easily. The XL Combo Pho was much larger than other nearby places by at least a 25% margin, for slightly less cost. Now the question really is, does one really need such an enormous portion of pho? And again I would answer yes because it is delicious and I'm sure there is a list of health benefits somewhere. Plus it is extremely tasty with just the right savory light flavor. Post-hoc justifications aside, the restaurant was clean and well-maintained. I was immediately helped when I walked in and the giant bowl of pho came out within two minutes. It's a larger establishment so they have capacity to handle good size groups and busy times. While almost everybody was enjoying the pho, there were a few other dishes that looked quite tasty as well. So their other food will also fit the bill if you're looking for something else. Someone got this sizzling thing that looked amazing. Five stars and this is going to be on my regular list of lunch places near La Jolla. read more

I got the bun bo hue which I was skeptical at first because it's a hit or miss. I think the broth was very flavorful, it did have more of a spicy kick compared to any other bun Bo hue's I've gotten but it wasn't over bearing and I enjoyed it. The noodles were cooked perfectly but I wanted some blood and pork knuckle which is what is traditionally in the soup. I also got the butter garlic chicken and it was very tasty and crispy and flavorful, some pieces were a little dry. I said I wasn't gonna come back, but here I am... like I mentioned in my last review, the tables had nothing on it. No utensils or napkins upon walking in. No sauces, nothing. They bring it out to you when you sit. For me, I just find that odd! But apparently that's becoming the norm. We pre-ordered the fried/grilled catfish for lunch. After we were all seated, the water glasses came out fast. The waitress felt like she was rushing the rest of us who were looking through the menu to order what we want. I felt so rushed, I didn't even look. In a way, I'm glad I didn't order anything because the fish was enough for all of us to share. The fish was beautifully soft and there was only one big bone throughout the fish. Therefore we were lucky that we didn't have to spit out the bones when we made our spring rolls! We were given a large amount of lettuce and herbs & veggies, and pineapple to go with it. I really enjoyed the juicy ripe pineapple with fish! I dipped mine into fish sauce but mam tom was also an option. I personally wouldn't get the fried eggrolls again. But the shaking beef was tasty. Knuckle bone soup was my favorite. The portion is intimidating but I look at it like there's a lot to share. We also tried the oxtail pho and stew. All are very tasty! This is another of San Diego's best Phó restaurants. Extremely busy on weekends. Luckily, I went for lunch on Thursday and it was not very busy, mostly families. This restaurant is the second restaurant of the original, more traditional Phuông Trang. Something that I absolutely find smart here and makes this my favorite place is the utensils aren't on the table and the hoisin sauce and schriracha are in packets versus the unsanitary bottles that sit on the table along with a caddy of chopsticks and spoons; kudos for cleanliness! They had an area for large parties, decorated with beautiful simplicity for a wedding. I started with Vietnamese egg rolls, they use the glutinous rice paper which is extra crispy when fried with great texture and flavor. The filling was nice and meaty, along with a good amount of fresh leaves of romaine, mint and coriander and rice vinegar/fish sauce. Then came the meal, I had the extra large Pho and my friend had pork cutlet and broken rice. Plating was very nice, and for my Phó a large portion of garnish vegetables. If you're not very hungry get a smaller bowl of noodles; this is a lot of food. The broth is legit, it has good depth and flavor. The amount of meat and quality is appreciated. The amount of noodles was adequate and cooked properly. The pork cutlet plate was so good! Rice cooked perfect, Beautiful even char and cook on the pork and lightly seasoned, comes with a fresh vegetable garnish. PT Eatery is the sister restaurant to Phuong Trang and they basically have the same menu, with a couple of different items at each location. I really love the grilled pork sandwich that they have here, though the price is a bit high relative to other banh mi shops. This is a good, reliable, and consistent Vietnamese restaurant in the area, and, like Phuong Trang, probably the best overall Vietnamese restaurant that you can find in San Diego. However, comparing directly to Phuong Trang, I have noticed that the food is slightly more bland here. This includes the pho broth, as well as many of their other items, but most notably, their garlic butter chicken wings. While Phuong Trang more consistently delivers on their wings taste-wise, PT Eatery has some good days and some slightly above average days, which is surprising, since I assume that they use the same recipe at both restaurants. Service is decent and quick. They never get too easy even on weekends, and they have waiters that can speak both English and Vietnamese. read more

If you love pho but want to venture out and try something new that not too many places offer, then I recommend trying this place out. I really enjoyed the Pho French Dip that my friend recommended. This Vietnamese style French dip is much tastier, complex and overall better than its original counterpart. The brisket on this sandwich was DELICIOUS - tender, juicy, and savory. They packed a hearty amount of meat in the banh mi which is always a plus. They used cooked beansprouts in place of the noodles traditionally found in pho which I found clever - I do think they put too many but that is a personal preference. The pickled onions and cilantro really sealed that pho taste after dipping it in the pho consume provided. The broth was piping hot, and the baguette quickly absorbed all of the tastiness of the broth while still remaining crispy. It is difficult to evaluate the broth itself without any other toppings, but I would give the broth a good rating - it didn't blow me away but it didn't disappoint. The portion was fair for the price, and I was surely satisfied after eating ($17ish after tip). The service was good. The ambiance was spacious and clean which is the best I could ask for from a Convoy area spot. There is plenty of parking which is excellent for this area. 4.5 rounded up to a 5. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the menu. They're off to a great start with my initial experience! read more

This is one of our family favorite spots. We took my mother in law since she was craving Asian food. My husband go to pho is Rare Steak and Brisket, which he loves. My girls and I love the Beef tenderloin and fried rice. This time we tried the Kung Pao Chicken and the Walnut shrimp. This sister restaurant to Phuong Trang is an easy go-to comfort spot for me! I seem to always want pho when Phuong Trang is closed so it works out lol. Honestly, now that I've come to both restaurants plenty of times, the service and staff at this location is 10x better. Here, they're friendly, patient, and check up on you from time to time. My go-to and favorite dishes are the small pho with brisket and rare steak on the side, garlic butter chicken wings, egg rolls, spring rolls, and the vermicelli bowl with egg roll and pork.
