The sandwiches were pretty mid here. Mid as in, the bread had little flavor to it, and the fillings were okay. I got the #1, their Dac Biet. I thought it was under-seasoned, imo. Usually I like my bread with a bit of butter flavor, cuz some other Viet places have butter distinctly lathered on top. K Sandwiches does not. The pickled veggies, mayo, and pâté were also nothing to write home about... I tried other pastries that they had, like the croissants, but they were also subpar. The order also took a long time, and I didn't order many sandwiches. Would I come again? Probably, if I'm in the area again.
I've been coming here since before K Sandwiches was even K Sandwiches, back when this location operated as a restaurant. I was around before the kitchen fire and happily returned afterward. That's how far back my loyalty goes! For years, this was my trusty lunchtime escape, and I've sent plenty of colleagues their way. The food was always worth coming back for. Now, I'm not one to expect sunshine and rainbows from every employee. We all have our days, and I get it. But there's one particular gentleman here who has somehow perfected the art of making a simple sandwich transaction feel like an inconvenience. A smile? Forget it. A friendly greeting? How about "What do you want?" delivered with all the enthusiasm of someone being summoned for jury duty. Between his uneasy demeanor, frequent admiration of his permed hair in the mirror, and the rather unceremonious receipt handoff, customer service doesn't exactly seem to be his calling. But I've let it slide. Repeatedly. After all, I'm not there to make friends. I'm there for my beloved #1 sandwich. And then came today. There I was, minding my business, enjoying my usual order, when halfway through my sandwich, I suddenly found myself flossing a strand of HAIR out of my mouth. Excuse me?! I ordered a sandwich, not a side of someone's personal grooming routine. Look, I can tolerate an unfriendly cashier. I can overlook the lack of pleasantries. I can even appreciate that not everyone is thrilled to be at work. But when the customer service is already leaving a bad taste in your mouth, the last thing you need is an actual hair to accompany it. After all these years, it's disappointing to feel this way about a place I've genuinely enjoyed and supported. I suppose every longtime relationship eventually reaches a crossroads. Unfortunately, mine came with a strand of hair. It's been a good run, K Sandwiches. But I think it's time we split hairs and go our separate ways.
OG banh mi! And while the former low, low prices are a thing of the past, the restaurant interior is far superior (albeit eating surfaces are often dotted with crumbs as there is simply too much guest turnover to keep up with, so be sure to get some extra napkins to clear your own space) and the sandwiches as good as ever. Not sure why so many people line up at the counter when ordering at a kiosk is so convenient, but, hey, faster service for those in the know. ;) My fave banh mi is the Grilled Pork (Thit Nuong), but slap anything between those perfectly baked French baguette halves and I'd probably love it!
As a nurse who has worked in this area for years, lunch from K Sandwiches is a given. They have the best sandwiches in the city -- fresh, generous, and consistently excellent. One sandwich is so substantial it can last me all day. Highly recommend.
This is an unassuming spot that makes very, very good banh mi sandwiches. Are they the best in San Diego? I have no idea. They make other things, too, but it appeared to me that almost everyone ordered either banh mi sandwiches or coffee or boba drinks. The #1 sandwich provides a "variety" of cold cuts, whatever that means. The bread was soft and pillowy and the veggies were nice and fresh. It is a good sandwich but wasn't incredibly meaty, The #11 grilled chicken was a flavor bomb and seemed meatier than the #1. I loved it. They offer lots of fresh baked goods, pastries, and bread in the back. Everything looked very nice. You serve yourself and then bring your selections up to the front counter. I could easily have picked ten or more items that looked great. A proper banh mi requires excellent, ultra fresh bread and you get that here. Free parking in the lot but watch out. There are some ridiculous drivers here.
Read through their Yelp page pretty extensively before heading here for coffee. Apparently this place has been around for decades, and almost everyone describes it as nostalgic -- always a good sign in my book. I love a hole-in-the-wall that's kept customers happy for that long. What really caught my eye was the coconut foam Vietnamese coffee, so that's what I ordered, and it did not disappoint. Strong in flavor, not too sweet, and once you mix in the coconut foam on top it balances the whole drink out. I also loved that they serve it in a tall bottle -- it justifies the $8 price. I got the pandan one too, which was rich in color with a good amount of real pandan flavor. We also got the grilled pork sandwich with pâté. I would have loved for the pork to have some char or smokiness to it, but it was just cooked. The bun also wasn't as crispy as I'd hoped. I'd give the sandwich a 6.5/10 -- fine, but not the highlight. The shop itself is huge, with a big variety of Asian snacks and maybe 10 different croissant flavors ranging from guava to chocolate to cream cheese. If you're a croissant lover, you have to take a look at what they've got.
If you are looking for something really good and cheap, this banh mi place should be your go to! I get so full with $8 and I feel amazing eating it since it has a good mix of veggies and meat! The workers here are always so friendly and they check up on you if it seems like you've been waiting for a while. I like that they also have a small grocery store vibes with drinks, snacks, baked goods, And drinks!
K Sandwiches is a great place to go for sandwiches, lunch, breakfast, coffee fresh French bread, you get the idea. It's a Counter service operation. I've been here twice. Once for breakfast and coffee. The other time I stopped for lunch. Service is quick and the staff is friendly. For my lunch visit I had a huge #14 Roast Beef on a Baguette and an espresso drink. There were plenty of open tables and I relaxed, while enjoying my food and reading a paper. Nice!

On a Saturday lunchtime, it was pretty packed and crowded as usual, with limited seating and parking. Ordered on the self-order kiosk and it was ready within a few minutes I usually get the #1 special (dac biet). There's not a lot of meat and the bread could've been crunchier for my liking, but overall still a good banh mi! Their fresh baguette bread is also a favorite. The variety of drinks also look good!
I've been going to K Sandwiches for years and I won't get banh mi anywhere else. I love that they've kept their recipes the same over the years. My favorites are the grilled beef banh mi, shrimp spring rolls, Vietnamese coffee, and Thai tea. So good every single time!
I hate to admit it, but I haven't really had many Bahn mi sandwiches. I have had other Vietnamese food, but most places I never think to get one. I know this place is pretty popular so I was in the shopping plaza the other day and I decided to get some to go. Place was very busy, lots of people ordering food, walking around inside. They have an ordering counter, to the right is a little refrigerated section which looked like some delicious Viet snacks and sweets. I was going to get the mango pudding, but I opted out during this visit. I went up and asked the lady what was popular so I got 3 sandwiches: I got #9, marinated Grilled pork. My niece got #10, marinated Grilled beef. I got my sister also #9, minus the cilantro. At first I thought it was somewhat dry but after eating it more, I really enjoyed it. The grilled pork definitely was marinated and had great flavor, everything with the daikon, carrot and cilantro made the sandwich so delicious. It definitely had a little bit of spice to it. (even if you take off the jalapenos) The bread was absolutely delicious. 5/5 My niece did like theirs, i think the beef was marinated just like the pork. I think they found their meat a bit chewier than the pork. 4/5 I did love how you could order other items and I loved they have a little bakery to the left. I was going to get a few baguettes to go, but they were all sold out. (430 minute wait for next ones) I ended up getting 2 cheese croissant danishes, I thought they were ok. Delicious on the outside, but the filling was ok. I'm sure the next time I come, I will be trying different bakery. (guava pastries, chocolate croissant, Jalapeno/cheese croissant) Staff was friendly and efficient. I definitely will remember to stop in if I'm in the area and in the mood for a Bahn mi. K sandwiches is a classic, I've been coming since I was a child! My go to order is the K's special (dac biet) and it's good but doesn't come with a lot of meat. I usually enjoy their baguette bread but during my recent visit, it was a bit chewy and not super crunchy. It's usually pretty busy but they have self order kiosks on the side.
Overview: skimpy filling, and small sandwiches for the price paid ---- #1 K Special (Dac Biet) $8.59 #9 Grilled Pork (Thit Nuong) $8.59 #11 Grilled Chicken (Ga Nuong) $8.59 While the flavors are good, the amount of meat in each were not enough to go to each end of the baguette. The end pieces for all of the sandwiches didn't have enough meat and was more bread. It used to be better portions, I wouldn't mind the price paid if it reflected in the quality of the sandwiches. They have kiosk ordering which is really convenient, unfortunately they didn't print out any receipt so we didn't get the order number. It had popped up when we paid and we thought we were gonna get a receipt so we didn't think to remember the number. Other customers also fell into this bc when the employees were calling out the numbers we were all looking at each other to see who got what. ---- Overall: good flavor but quality has dropped and prices increased, kiosk ordering needs to be fixed read more
I've been to K Sandwiches a few times. It's a very busy place with fair pricing and a huge selection of fresh baguettes, croissants, smoothies, pastries, and Asian snacks and groceries. My go-to is the #9 Pork Banh Mi with jalapeño for $9 The banh mi was decent, but not quite as flavorful as I had hoped. While the sandwich itself is quite large, it felt light on the meat. The Thai Tea was okay, but it didn't really have that authentic, strong Vietnamese taste. Great variety overall, but the core items were just average for me. read more

Love this place before, but the amount of inexperienced employees are out of hand. Don't get me wrong, love the food, but the service lately has been so awful. Not to mention the hair that was found in one of our sandwiches!!! Disgusting!!!! read more

Was driving by and decided to try it. Didn't eat anything all day. I ordered the grilled pork. It was ready fast. $9.26 total. First bite... second bite. It was good. Not bad. I wish I had added an egg. Not sure if they offer that I was in a rush. Only thing I what the bread was crunchy a bit more. Maybe it was the fact that I came late in the day. 3:21pm. I always drive by when I get my water refilled and the line is out the door. No line today!!! I ordered K's breakfast sandwich. It's a croissant with ham, bacon, eggs, cheese. 1st let's talk about the size. Holy moly it's bigger than my hand. It has lots of ham, good amount of eggs and 2 slices of bacon. When you get a bit with bacon it's perfect. Without bacon the eggs could use some salt. Over all really taste Ordering is confusing as there are 2 lines. One for sandwiches and one for the little Asian convenient store. I took the item to go which most people did but they have many inside and outside tables. They also have a bar with stools around the entire inside. Lots parking that is shared with many businesses. Over all very happy. read more
Drove up specifically to K sandwiches because I woke up craving a Banh Mi, and although there are plenty of sandwich shops in Claremont/Kearny area, nothing beats this classic, traditional spot that has remained standing through the test of time. I loved K sandwiches when I was 18 before the remodeling, and I still love them 15+ years later. A San Diego staple you can't miss! Ps: There were no water bottles in the fridge to purchase, just a ton of sweet beverages. It'd be nice if someone would restock water bottles in their fridge at all times. And finally, I didn't see anyone cleaning tables or keeping up with maintaining the dining area clean. There was a lot of food on the ground, and every table had bread crumbs. So water, and staff cleaning at all times would be great. read more
Usually hit or miss... but mostly a hit when I'm starving and just want a banh mi to fix my life for a second. I still think about the pickled daikon and carrots from here. They're cut thicker than most spots which gives that really satisfying crunch. K Sandwiches has been around for years and is kind of a staple in this area. It's one of those reliable sandwich spots people have been going to forever. I remember coming here as a child with my family and a lot has changed since then. They now offer way more drinks, both handcrafted and bottled, plus a bigger selection of snacks and hot foods. I even found a bag of gummies I've been looking for everywhere... even H Mart didn't have them. Felt like I found treasure for $2.50, which is honestly one of those little wins in life. There are kiosks you can order from, or you can go up to the register, especially if you're paying cash or grabbing snacks and drinks. It was fairly busy around 1:30pm, which makes sense with all the nearby schools and businesses. We got the pate only banh mi and the #12 pork patty (nem nuong). I liked the kiosk ordering because you can customize everything. I added extra pickles and cilantro, and there's even an option to add sliced white onions which I appreciated. Both sandwiches were solid, but not as good as I remembered. The pickles didn't have that same punch. The brine leaned more light and slightly sweet, and I wish it had more acidity to balance out the richness of the pate and mayo. The cilantro was fresh overall, but some stems had a bit of browning which didn't affect taste too much, just the look. I also asked for both sandwiches to be cut in half but only one was. The bread didn't feel as fresh either.None of these are huge issues on their own, but together they do take away from what could've been a really great banh mi. I'll probably still come back when the craving hits, but it's one of those spots that can be really good... just not always consistent. read more

K Sandwiches is a must try, super affordable Vietnamese market serving up some of the BEST Banh Mi Sandwiches is San Diego. This Linda Vista hot spot bakes their own bread and pastries fresh daily and let me tell you, they are delicious - the crunch on the outside and the softness on the inside - perfection! I ordered the Grilled Beef (Bo Nuong) Banh Mi sandwich with extra veggies ($8.25) - so yummy! Love this place! Great spot for lunch or breakfast, lots of drink options, variety of sandwiches with nice fresh crunchy bread. They also have croissant sandwiches for breakfast. Love. You can either order at counter or there's a self order kiosk if you're an introvert or need more time lol. Clean, bright shop. Indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of parking! read more

Banh mi was alright--the bread had a firm bite and lacked the crispy flakiness and the toppings/pate were nothing special. I really liked the pickled veggies, but the jalapeno had no spice to it. Viet coffee was really good, def bang for your buck because it's super strong and not majority ice like how other banh mi spots do it. I'd come back for the drinks and other miscellaneous things they sell here, like the to-go meals, pastries, and $2 bag of banh mi ends (which I think is genius and very not wasteful of them to do). read more
Came back to this place after moving 2 years ago and the pastries are exactly how I remember them! Sooo delicious! The prices have definitely gone up which is a bummer and they're still not super filled (like the chocolate croissant) but I've always loved how they turned out regardless. I also got a veggie Bahn Mi and it's exactly how I remember it also! I highly suggest adding a dressing to it so it doesn't taste as dry. Customer service was typical- nice people, rang me up and I was on my way. They have a decent amount of a seating area, it's clean, parking can be tight sometimes Can't wait to be back! read more
I've been coming here since my kids was little. I love their pastry and would often buy it for gifts for the teacher or my doctors. The bahn mi is sooo good! They also some Vietnamese dessert that's also delicious. It's really hard to find che in SD. I'm glad that they have some variety. Service is always excellent. They are so quick with getting my food and drinks made. I always come in the afternoon where it's a bit more quiet. The place is big with parking in the front so it's nice and convenient. Good place to get your snackies and coffee or other drinks. read more
We got the special and grilled pork. The bread was delicious the crunchy veggie was nice but the meat ratio is sad. They're pretty stingy with protein portion which we're not used to. 3/5 for their banh mi, too pricey for the portion. 4/5 for their ham and cheese croissant. Very filling and flavorful. Price was also reasonable. Loved that they have a variety of food, snacks and drinks. Would stop by again but not for their banh mi. Nice service, spacious restaurant, can dine inside or out. I haven't eaten at this place in a while. I always loved it. But today has changed my mind. My wife got the Grilled Pork Spring Rolls. Well as she bit into a roll. She felt something chewy. It was a Band Aid. Yes, a band aid. This shows that they do not wear gloves when making these rolls. The person that lost the band aid, should have removed all products that they worked on, at least. I think the last time I was here was before the building burned down. Now, after rebuilding years later, I came back to visit and got some banh mi. It's been a long, long time! I got the #1 banh mi and it was fresh and delicious. They have two kiosks on the left side now so if you want, you could put in the order yourself or you can wait in the line for a cashier. Most people ordered from the cashier. I wanted to grab some pastries too, but knew I would be ordering 3 banh mis to last me a couple of days, so I didn't want to be a piggy. I ate one and it was filling and satisfied and saved the other two for later! I enjoyed my sandwich at the shop and it didn't look like anyone was bussing or cleaning so I wiped the table off myself before eating my sandwich. They don't have napkins out so I only got my napkins that came in the bag that they put my sandwiches in. read more

Do they still sell the Banh Bot chien( taro turnip cake) in the ready made food /grab n go packaging?
The day I was there I didn't see any.

There is outdoor seating, around 4-5 small tables
Are you selling Banh Mi Rolls? During this Covid
Yes, they're selling their pastries, etc. Sanitizers and gloves are provided.
Is there WiFi?
They do not provide WiFi there. At least I never saw any signs saying so.
How busy is this place on Sundays for lunch? And is there lots of seating?
It can be busy but the orders come out fast.
Has it re-opened from construction yet? If not, do they know when it will be opening again?
K Sandwich will be having a grand opening at January 5, 2018.
