Depending on your taste buds, may or may not be your preference. For the price, I would personally buy pastries elsewhere. Coffee is good The consistency was better a couple of years ago, I believe the ownership changed. Would just recommend for coffee, or somewhere to sit and sip when doing laundry next door. Smoothies are decent.

I stopped in because I was using the laundromat across the parking lot and wanted to kill time. I got 2 strudels (strawberry and cream cheese) and found them both to be delicious. At close to $4 a strudel however, I do think they could have offered to heat them up or something. The shop is small with some seats though I just got my item to go. I probably wouldn't mind stopping by again when I'm in the area but probably won't drive out of my way to come back.

Bear Buns Bakery has become my go-to spot in the mornings. I'm absolutely hooked on their Ube Cold Foam Matcha, which has the perfect balance of flavor, and I find myself ordering it almost every day. The cafe is never too busy, which makes it a great place to relax or get a bit of work done. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside, and the overall vibe is calm and cozy. Their pastries are always fresh and flavorful. I've tried the cinnamon roll, which is soft and delicious, and the almond croissant has the most amazing filling. It's easily one of my favorites. The breakfast sandwiches are also really good. While I agree with some reviews that the bread could use a touch more salt, I actually enjoy it as is. You can tell it's baked fresh and made with quality ingredients.

Got the Benny sandwich on focaccia. Definitely could use some more salt in the bread and the hollandaise. Also got the sticky bun. It did not disappoint. I swear they put like $300 worth of pecans on the top. No shortchanging you there. I ordered an iced decaf dirty chai latte. They forgot and made it full caf. They offered to remake it but I don't want to be wasteful. Staff are super awesome. Very friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating The outdoor seating has been updated since the last time I was there . I think there might have been a recent ownership change, but I'm not 100% on that Would definitely go back I went at 10:30 on a Sunday and there was no line and they still had cinnamon buns and sticky buns left. That is not typical.

If chewy cinnamon rolls with a slight exterior crunch is what you are looking for, this may be the roll for you. Their cinnamon rolls are made without nuts and the glaze is thin which I prefer. The staff is friendly, the space is super clean with indoor and outdoor seating. @sturdygirlstyle #sturdygirlstyle

Very cute little bakery with limited seating and parking is very limited. Everyone working is very kind and sweet, seems family owned and operated. I got the ube croissant and the cinnamon roll. Ube croissant wasn't sweet enough for my taste, however, my brother really enjoyed it. Their cinnamon roll however, was very bread-y and the frosting was very lackluster. I saw mixed reviews about the cinnamon roll despite Yelp listing this place as being known for them, so I thought I'd give them a try. Stick to Cinnabon if you want cinnamon rolls. I would like to come again to try the coffee and other more specialty pastries.

Stopped by this place before work, was able to find easy parking. The staff was really friendly and food came promptly. The cafe looks cozy and clean, very welcoming. I recommend for a coffee run but also as a cafe to work/study in.

It's been awhile since the last time I was here. I think it's new ownership. I came here for Ube coconut croissant that my sister bought a few weeks ago and I couldn't forget about it. It has good amount of ube filling with some coconut. The croissant is huge, buttery and soft. 5 stars Almond croissant is also really good. Service is great, they are nice & friendly. I will return to get the samw thing. Highly recommend! Not much customer when we arrive coz it's almost noon.

I have been to Bear Buns only once before, and that time I only stopped in to pick up some holiday cookies. Recently, I had an appointment nearby and had a little extra time to kill before returning to work. I hadn't yet had my coffee or anything to eat, so Bear Buns sounded good. Anyway, I walked in to find that it seemed to be quite the morning hangout for locals. At 8:15AM on a Thursday, there were several tables filled with groups of people chatting, but still plenty of space. I initially had been thinking to forgo breakfast and just enjoy a pumpkin latte, but then I saw a large variety of breakfast sandwiches. Anyway, I chose the turkey and pepperjack croissant to accompany my latte. Unfortunately, they had run out of skim milk, so I had to have the latte with almond milk. The latte was good and not overly sweet, which was a fear of mine, especially given the milk choices. They warmed the sandwich for me and brought it out. It was very simple, but not greasy. The coffee shop was a bit loud, but I think it was mainly due to the boisterous personalities in the groups around me. Otherwise, it was a comfortable place to sit and sip my coffee in the morning. It'a actually a pretty cute place too. If I am in the area again, I will definitely stop by.

I'm not a huge breakfast sandwich guy but thought to try it. got the bella. the tomato was pasty, the egg is fluffy, bread ok , a little dry. better than a lot of places.

Clean and bright space. The folks here were struggling to keep the order straight and on time, in spite of it not being very busy. I can't tell if it's the norm or a staff training issue. In any event, they didn't ring in a sticky bun, in spite of us repeating this multiple times. Perhaps that was a subtle warning. It was really dry and without sufficient spice. For a place with "buns" in the name, I had expectations. The vegan breakfast sandwich isn't particularly delicious. Perhaps it was the rush of getting orders straight and out the kitchen after much delay, but the vegan sausage wasn't cooked right. It was well crispy on the outside, but the inside had he consistency pâté. No, thank you.

My partner and I come here every weekend. Bear Buns has the yummiest chai latte in San Diego as someone who has tried a lot of chai! It's a small business and the owner is super friendly. We love the small cafe feel and can spend hours just talking or working. I've tried all the breakfast sandwiches and they are delicious. Try their smoothies too!!

Was coming down from San Diego and stopped by here as it was the nearest spot with a #6 listing of top rated "cafes". The cafe is cute and cozy! The ladies that took my order and made my latte and croissant were really nice! The croissant was a ham, cheese, egg. The croissant bread was different and delicious though! The coffee was also good just a simple vanilla latte. Cute shop and simple vibes, wish I tried their cinnamon rolls they looked good!

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

So I am glad we decided to share the biscuits and gravy but let me run down each thing. Bloody Mary Flight: Honestly every single one was amazing. My favorite was definitely the pickle Mary! Everything tasted so delicious and was garnished beautifully. Well worth the 22 dollars. Biscuits and Gravy: Absolute perfection of comfort food. The biscuits were so fluffy and well seasoned. The gravy was also soooo good, just like my mom makes. The sausage in it was also cooked so well and juicy. I've never tried mashed potatoes with the biscuits and gravy but it worked very well! Orange Juice: Not a fan really, not pulpy enough and I wasn't a fan of the flavor. Overall this is definitely a must visit! I will definitely be back.

Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off. I rather it stay in the kitchen under a heat lamp and come together rather that spend 5 minutes staring at my food being polite. So, for a fun "wow that's a ton of food" experience this is it. But I much prefer quality ingredients and attention to detail and flavor over unfinishable portions at a premium price point ($100 after tip for 2 ppl).
