I really was looking for something to hit the spot today. I started the day with my homemade smoothie which was perfect. Then, as the day progressed I wanted to have a good lunch so I would not be that hungry for dinner and just lightly snack. So, I was craving a deli sandwich. I decided to try Rubicon Deli in Mission Hills area. I kept hearing how their sandwiches were so good. I ordered a tuna sandwich, and the girl behind. the counter was helpful and friendly, but did inform me they were out of a few bread types. I order a Dutch crunch type of bread for a tuna sandwich. They serve half and whole sandwiches so I just ordered a half which was still a good-sized portion . I wish I would have liked this sandwich because I drove 20 minutes to try this place. The bread was too dry and super messy because it was so dry. The rest of the sandwich was okay. The tuna was bland tasting as it did not seem like it was seasoned. The veggies on it were the only thing that made the sandwich decent tasting. It was nothing to write home about or drive out of my area to try it . I was hungry and paid so I had to eat it. Although, I threw away the other half of it . It was not horrible, but it was not tasty either. The service was good and they had plenty of tables to sit down inside. But, I also noticed the tables were not being wiped down and under the tables there were food crumbs all over. Luckily, I had my trusty sanitizer for the table. The fact no one was cleaning as it needed to be done was a turn off. Restaurants and places of businesses need to take it serious and keep it clean everywhere so no one gets sick. Lastly, keep in mind when you arrive at this place, you have to pay the City of San Diego parking which I paid 2.50 extra just to come here .
My friends and I ordered the Dapper Dipper and The Giddy Up. I love French Dips and was intrigued they had tempura onions. This was a great twist! The Giddy Up had roast beef as well and tasted very fresh and thick.
Sandwich was MASSIVE & good enough to share for 2 people. It was good, but not amazing. I love Dutch crunch bread, but this one doesn't hit the same. Overall, a good sandwich spot if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to grab one here.
Heard about this place on Reddit while looking up for a deli sandwich. Parking was a bit tough around 7PM on a Friday, but my wife and I were able to find some across the street. It's nice and air conditioned inside and no one was here, so service was fast. We ordered the rich boy and the stallion, both with Dutch crunch bread since that's the most popular one on Yelp (also because they were out of garlic cheese). The dining room was empty and we got our order about 15 mins after we ordered. It's kinda hard to hear your name being called from the dining room, so be mindful of that. I accidentally grabbed the wrong order from the same woman who took my order, so we were both at fault there. We got whole sandwiches with the intention of eating one half there and saving the rest for home. The sandwiches themselves were HUGE. You definitely get what you pay for. Both sandwiches were amazing. I'm a big guy but had trouble finishing just half of the sandwich. I'd definitely come back and try other stuff.
We got the party pack which came with sandwiches, chips and salad. I tried the hogs breath and it was really good. Service was fast since we placed an online order. However, we did not receive our cookie that came with the order which was a bummer. Inside was clean with seating options if you plan to eat in.

Me and my husband came here early afternoon for a filling lunch and it was great. As non-locals this is for sure the spot to try. The serving sizes are huge which I think is worth the price. You can order either half or whole sandwiches and we both ordered halves. They proved to be more than enough! I got the whales veg and my husband got the stallion- both of which were delicious. You can customize your orders so I added turkey to mine and we got to choose the bread; we also just got a fountain drink and a pickle on the side. I feel like the service could be a little more welcoming as far as attending to customers, but it's nothing that would deter me from coming back. The ambiance is relaxed and clean with a seating area outside and inside located towards the back of the restaurant. Super good and if I'm ever back in town we'll def come back!
We got the Rich boy and Spicy Tuna with bacon potato salad and tomato soup. The food was amazing with so many flavors. The cookies were so good. Place was clean and seating was comfy. Service was great with the team being extra fast. Will definitely go again.
Been here twice now and I feel like that's just not enough. I need more of this place in my life but the wait... oof. That wait is long and painful to get a sandwich. So if you're in a rush, this aint the place for you. First time I came here was a few days before National Day of Mourning in November. I got a TooGoodToGo deal and it came with a bag full of breads. Breads they cooked too much of. It was amazing! I had Dutch crunch, Bleu Cheese, Garlic Cheese, Jalapeno Jack, Pesto, and Wheat. All in all, I left with maybe 50 rolls which was perfect. I gave some to friends, I gave some to those experiencing homeless, and I ate wayyyy too many myself! Second time I came here was on a Saturday around 1pm and it was packedddd. They were firing sandwiches out left and right. I was between a few options but eventually went with the "Giddy Up" which consisted of Prime roast beef, Swiss, roasted red pepper tapenade, caramelized onion, wild arugula, and creamy horseradish. They also have salads, acai bowls, and cookies. Most half sandwiches are around 13 dollars and full size are $20. It's pricey but once in a while it's great to splurge and this is definitely the place to do so if you want great quality and a huge sandwich that will leave you full all day!

I've been seeing a lot of posts on the socials about Rubicon and their massive sandwiches. Big a** sandwich?! Count me in! Ended up doing a take out order which included said big a** sandwich, Achin' 4 Bacon, whole (duh) on Dutch crunch bread, as well as Rubicons house chips. Also I'm a sucker for a chocolate chip cookie so added a bag of their mini cc cookies. No lies here, sandwich was girthy. Loaded with hella amounts of turkey, bacon, avocado and of course that bread. This thing was something else; basically you needed to be a snake and unhinge your jaw for that first bite. I somehow managed this feat and was loving it until I roughed up the roof of my mouth. Some like that, me, well I'm dainty. So I picked off all of the crunch I could to minimize its painful effect. Overall great sandwich! House chips were smacking! Be sure to order a side of their house ranch dressing for dipping. These chips are crazy crispy and well seasoned, worthy of any mom's Tupperware party. Mini chocolate chip cookies, get these! Moist and chewy!! All in, a great sandwich spot. Parking can be tricky, but you can order take out or delivery via the apps. Definitely excited to try another one of their big a** sandwiches!
I was disappointed with my experience. I ordered the jalapeño bread, but my order came with Dutch bread instead. I called to politely let them know, and I was told that when they run out of jalapeño bread, they substitute it with Dutch bread. The issue is that I wasn't asked if that substitution was okay. I'm allergic to Dutch bread, so it's not something I can simply eat instead. To make it even more confusing, my friend ordered the same jalapeño bread and received the correct bread, so I'm not sure why only mine was substituted. I understand that items can run out, but customers should be informed before a substitution is made, especially when it involves food that could affect someone with allergies. I paid for jalapeño bread and expected to receive what I ordered or at least be given the option to choose a different substitute or a refund.
I'd give them 6 stars if I could. Best sandwich I've had in San Diego! I work at a venue right down the street & we cater here for events all the time. All of my co workers rave about this place. It's INSANELY good! Cute little spot with some outdoor seating. Would highly recommend this place if anyone asked for a good sandwich around here. read more
Street metered parking only. The parking lot is for el Indio customers only. They have seating next door and some outside bench style seating. Enter on the right side to order at the register. They call your name on the left when ready. Unless you want leftovers I would recommend to get a half sandwich. Their sandwiches are massive. They come with a cute little cookie. The bread tastes better toasted. Tried: Super Mario $19.69 - good but wasn't a fan of the blue cheese bread. Giddy up $19.99 - also good but didn't like the whole wheat bread. They charge 15 cents per sandwich for pickles. I'd be back to try other sandwiches. read more

Heard a lot about this place so decided to try it. We tried the Rich Boy and the Super Mario. We got half sandwiches but be aware that the portion sizes are huge! Half a sandwich will absolutely fill you. The rich boy had spicy chicken and the super Mario had bell pepper spread which made it sweet. We both got the Dutch crunch bread. It was okay. Curious to try the other breads. Each sandwich came with a mini cookie - delightful!!! All in all solid sandwiches but not the best ones I've had in San Diego. Service was fast and friendly! There is barstool seating outside and to the left of the restaurant is an indoor dining area. Parking is paid street. Depends on the time you're there but it can get pretty busy so just be prepared. read more

Been wanting to try for awhile so when I was driving by and a parking spot was open right in front it was meant to be. Decided on the Cowboy salad and I was happy with that decision. I do want to continue my way through the menu. Service was great. Yes you'll have a wait when it's busy yet it's worth it! read more
5 stars it is, one of my fav sandwich places in SD. First the customer service is great the Tio's & Tia's working there are great, friendly, fast & so are the younger workers. Lines might be long at times but they move fast. I suggest bring your own drinks because their fountain drink options are just ok, plus you'll save money. And I love that they give a free cookie wrapped in each sandwich, you still should buy a bag of cookies tho they are very good. Waffle chips are good too. Now for the sandwiches, I've had 3 & loved all 3. My fav is the Rubicon Special on pesto bread, main ingredients, smoked turkey, pesto mayo Gouda cheese, love it. Hog's Breath on Dutch Crunch bread is also winner & a go to for me as is the Super Mario, can't go wrong with any of those. And if you love pickles then get the pickle here, it's big & juicy drips down your mouth so maybe try to hide when eating it in public it might look awkward, just saying. Heard they have a good pastrami sandwich so I'm excited to try that next. If you love big, tasty, filling sandwiches then this is the place for you! Big ol sandwhiches worth the price, they don't skimp on anything! I tried the stallion and the super Mario. The stallion felt like a classic picnic sandwhich and was great but the super Mario was my favorite- it was so flavorful. read more

First time here! The sandwiches were very fresh, savory, flavorful, and delicious. Also, the chips were super crunchy, crispy, salty, and mini chocolate chip cookies were really sweet and tasty, and the pineapple cream soda was refreshing, good service, nice atmosphere with upbeat music, and I had an excellent experience today. read more

Such a large, reasonably priced, flavorful, and fresh sandwich. Is it the best sandwich I've ever had? Debatable. But it's definitely up there! I highly recommend the Giddy Up! The added flavor kick from the horse radish blew the other sandwiches I tried from there out of the water. read more

Always our go to spot whenever visiting San Diego. This time we brought some friends. They absolutely loved it. Once again we got the Rich Boy on jalapeño bread. So tasty!!! Definitely one of our favorite sandwich spots we've ever had. read more

The sandwiches are HUGE! I love how it is so easy to order at the register or on the kiosk. There is also spacious seating inside and outside for a quick meal. * Giddy Up on Pesto Bread - 9.2/10 (the roast beef is sooo juicy. i love how they packed the sandwich with fresh arugula. the red pepper tapenade and horseradish added a nice kick to the nose and a unique twist on roast beef. would definitely get this again!) read more
