Been here twice now and I feel like that's just not enough. I need more of this place in my life but the wait... oof. That wait is long and painful to get a sandwich. So if you're in a rush, this aint the place for you. First time I came here was a few days before National Day of Mourning in November. I got a TooGoodToGo deal and it came with a bag full of breads. Breads they cooked too much of. It was amazing! I had Dutch crunch, Bleu Cheese, Garlic Cheese, Jalapeno Jack, Pesto, and Wheat. All in all, I left with maybe 50 rolls which was perfect. I gave some to friends, I gave some to those experiencing homeless, and I ate wayyyy too many myself! Second time I came here was on a Saturday around 1pm and it was packedddd. They were firing sandwiches out left and right. I was between a few options but eventually went with the "Giddy Up" which consisted of Prime roast beef, Swiss, roasted red pepper tapenade, caramelized onion, wild arugula, and creamy horseradish. They also have salads, acai bowls, and cookies. Most half sandwiches are around 13 dollars and full size are $20. It's pricey but once in a while it's great to splurge and this is definitely the place to do so if you want great quality and a huge sandwich that will leave you full all day!

Best Dutch Crunch in SD. Love this place, staff is friendly and great atmosphere!! Great location. Everything is perfect here.

Achin' 4 Bacon

I've been seeing a lot of posts on the socials about Rubicon and their massive sandwiches. Big a** sandwich?! Count me in! Ended up doing a take out order which included said big a** sandwich, Achin' 4 Bacon, whole (duh) on Dutch crunch bread, as well as Rubicons house chips. Also I'm a sucker for a chocolate chip cookie so added a bag of their mini cc cookies. No lies here, sandwich was girthy. Loaded with hella amounts of turkey, bacon, avocado and of course that bread. This thing was something else; basically you needed to be a snake and unhinge your jaw for that first bite. I somehow managed this feat and was loving it until I roughed up the roof of my mouth. Some like that, me, well I'm dainty. So I picked off all of the crunch I could to minimize its painful effect. Overall great sandwich! House chips were smacking! Be sure to order a side of their house ranch dressing for dipping. These chips are crazy crispy and well seasoned, worthy of any mom's Tupperware party. Mini chocolate chip cookies, get these! Moist and chewy!! All in, a great sandwich spot. Parking can be tricky, but you can order take out or delivery via the apps. Definitely excited to try another one of their big a** sandwiches!

Been wanting to try for awhile so when I was driving by and a parking spot was open right in front it was meant to be. Decided on the Cowboy salad and I was happy with that decision. I do want to continue my way through the menu. Service was great. Yes you'll have a wait when it's busy yet it's worth it!

Rubicon Special on Presto Bread! Orgasmic! Orgasmic I tell you!

5 stars it is, one of my fav sandwich places in SD. First the customer service is great the Tio's & Tia's working there are great, friendly, fast & so are the younger workers. Lines might be long at times but they move fast. I suggest bring your own drinks because their fountain drink options are just ok, plus you'll save money. And I love that they give a free cookie wrapped in each sandwich, you still should buy a bag of cookies tho they are very good. Waffle chips are good too. Now for the sandwiches, I've had 3 & loved all 3. My fav is the Rubicon Special on pesto bread, main ingredients, smoked turkey, pesto mayo Gouda cheese, love it. Hog's Breath on Dutch Crunch bread is also winner & a go to for me as is the Super Mario, can't go wrong with any of those. And if you love pickles then get the pickle here, it's big & juicy drips down your mouth so maybe try to hide when eating it in public it might look awkward, just saying. Heard they have a good pastrami sandwich so I'm excited to try that next. If you love big, tasty, filling sandwiches then this is the place for you! They have a loyal fan in me, keep up the great work Rubicon & see you soon! (Also Yelp them, show them & you get a free bag of cookies)

Big ol sandwhiches worth the price, they don't skimp on anything! I tried the stallion and the super Mario. The stallion felt like a classic picnic sandwhich and was great but the super Mario was my favorite- it was so flavorful.

My boyfriend and I love coming here on quick sandwich dates! We love the Rubi club and get it everytime

Always our go to spot whenever visiting San Diego. This time we brought some friends. They absolutely loved it. Once again we got the Rich Boy on jalapeño bread. So tasty!!! Definitely one of our favorite sandwich spots we've ever had.

Giddy Up (bottom) & Super Mario (top)

Such a large, reasonably priced, flavorful, and fresh sandwich. Is it the best sandwich I've ever had? Debatable. But it's definitely up there! I highly recommend the Giddy Up! The added flavor kick from the horse radish blew the other sandwiches I tried from there out of the water.

DOM PASTRAMI SANDWICH
Kelly G.

Sandwiches were delicious and the service was excellent. I enjoyed my Dom PASTRAMI on Dutch Crunch bread, with some bacon potato salad and a Société The Pupil beer. Inside. But they have outside seating also. Great place. Be sure to stop by and grab a great sandwich. And you geta a free cookie with your sandwich.

Best sandwiches in San Diego! I love their vegetarian option. The Dutch crunch bread is so yummy!

(Lunch Box) Whale's Veg

Customer service was great; lovely people. Food was even better. Even for a veggie sandwich, there was so much flavor. Not to mention how large it is. I got to save half for later!

Giddy Up
Christine B.

The sandwiches are HUGE! I love how it is so easy to order at the register or on the kiosk. There is also spacious seating inside and outside for a quick meal. * Giddy Up on Pesto Bread - 9.2/10 (the roast beef is sooo juicy. i love how they packed the sandwich with fresh arugula. the red pepper tapenade and horseradish added a nice kick to the nose and a unique twist on roast beef. would definitely get this again!)

This place is one of the top 5 best sandwich shops in San Diego hands down. They also serve salads,…read moresoups, and some awesome sides. I heard they're going to start serving beer and wine soon as well! *Best 1st-timer options*: The Keeper (if you like it spicy) or the L.G.B.T. My favorite hot sandwiches are the Cali Cubano, B3, and The Keeper, while my favorite cold sandwiches are the Avocado Highway, L.G.B.T. (lettuce, gouda, bacon, tomato), and Caprese. My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). There is usually a good amount of parking on Park Blvd. and Polk Ave., which is nice. The space has a simple-yet-tasteful modern design and interior, is always clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Great for lunch hour or a weekend date. Update: Came back today with my friend and we ordered the B3 and the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwiches, plus sides of potato salad and cucumber salad, and a double chocolate cookie with pistachio and sea salt. Everything was really good, but the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwich was the star of the show. The cookie was great too. We both agreed the potato salad could use some salt, but besides that it was a solid meal all around.

Big Front Door has quickly become a new favorite for sandwiches, and visiting two days in a row…read moremade that very clear. On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. That level of care made the experience feel genuinely welcoming and stress-free. The chicken sandwich was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully balanced. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.

This was my first visit to this business…read more Around 11:30 AM on April 22, 2026, I stopped in while out on a break from work, hoping to support a local business and grab a quick lunch. I planned to order a their soup and half-sandwich combo. After waiting my turn, I asked what the soup of the day was. Instead of a direct response, the employee behind the counter (wearing a black shirt) pointed vaguely toward the counter and said, "It's right there." There were multiple signs and items, and it wasn't clear what he was referring to. I asked again for clarification, and he repeated himself--this time with clear irritation. I said "I don't see it". With some distain he replied "chicken noodle soup". At that point, it was obvious the interaction wasn't going anywhere productive or that this individual did not value his customers. I made a comment about the attitude and left. Here's the reality: in today's economic environment, every customer matters. I came in with the intention of spending money and potentially becoming a repeat customer. Instead, I was met with dismissive and unfriendly service for no reason. What are we doing? I wasn't rude or confrontational - I simply asked a basic question. The employee could have have simply stated what the soup of the day was. Instead, his attitude was unnecessarily hostile and reflects poorly on the business. Interactions like that don't just lose a single sale, they cost long-term customers and referrals. If ownership is paying attention, fire this guy!Staff represent your brand, and this experience fell well below any reasonable standard of hospitality. Unfortunately, I will never be returning, and I will not recommend this place based on this experience. In fact, I will provide this account of my experience with Royal Food Mart to many!

I ordered the BBQ beef brisket sandwich and can't wait to go back to try the whole menu. The sandwich was made to perfection. The bread was amazing, and I finished it before I knew it! It had cheese, onion, tomato, mayo, and BBQ sauce - this was so good. I'm usually not big on tomato or heavy BBQ sauce, but if it's worth it, I'll eat both... and this was absolutely worth it. The BBQ sauce has officially grown on me. The wait wasn't long at all. I didn't go inside to pick up my order, so I can't speak for customer service yet, but I can 100% vouch for the food. Got lucky with parking right out front. Can't wait to come back!

I had what I can confidently call the best pastrami sandwich of my life -- perfectly made and incredibly generous in size. The potato salad was also excellent. Thought the menu sounded great, and we'd rather give this place our business than a big chain...but unf we won't be back. $16 each for sandwiches that were mostly shredded lettuce and bread! I'm so sad to leave this review! But also mad that we paid $30+ when we could have made these sandwiches better ourselves. I feel ripped off. There was still a significant line, but when we finally got to the front, the waitress taking our order wouldn't even look at us. She spent a good portion of our "turn" chatting with another waitress before finally turning to us--still with zero eye contact. We ordered a cioppino, a clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, fish and chips, and a dozen oysters. I noticed she shouted the soup orders back to the kitchen but didn't say a word about the fish and chips. When I specifically asked her if she got the fish and chips, she said "yes," took my card, and sent us to a table. Our soups and oysters arrived after 15 minutes, but another 30 minutes passed with no sign of the rest of the meal. When I followed up with the same waitress to check on the status, she looked at the order and flatly told me there were no fish and chips on there. By that point, the restaurant was already closing. She asked if I still wanted them, but after waiting that long and dealing with that level of indifference, I just said no. Extremely disappointing experience. If you're going to stay open for customers, you should at least provide basic communication and hospitality. I won't be coming back.
